Are UL?

In this weeks episode, ahead of the launch of the An Focal Archives, Nicky and Cathal talk to Journalist John Maguire. John is a former University of Limerick student and one of the first members of 'An Focal' the UL Student Body paper. John takes a trip down memory lane, discussing the differences in the college then and now, what it was like setting up the paper, the highs and lows and what his current job at the Sunday Business Post is like.

In this weeks episode Cathal and Nicky are joined by RTÉ broadcasting legend Will Leahy. Will talks about pirate radio stations, the Rose of Tralee and how he has found the past year working in radio. Will decided as a young lad he wanted to work in radio and chats to Nicky and Cathal about  what it has been like spending the past 25 years with the national broadcaster, becoming a household name in radio.

In this episode Chelsea Joyce speaks to the owner of The Old Barracks, Birdhill. The Old Barracks are situated overlooking the River Shannon in the idyllic village of Birdhill, a location that is quickly earning a reputation as an innovative and proactive village, in addition to being Tidy Town winners 2017 and being home to their new coffee roastery and coffeebar, the rural village recently announced that they are Ireland's first autism friendly village.

For this episode, Cathal and Nicky were joined by, Dr Roberto Mazza, Lecturer in the History of Modern Middle East at the University of Limerick.Roberto specialises in the history of Palestine in the late 19th century and early 20th century and focuses on the history of violence and aims to   understand historically, why it happens. He also has a huge interest in the city of Jerusalem and hosts his very own podcast ‘Jerusalem Unplugged'.

In this weeks episode Cathal and Nicky are joined by UL Athletes;  Kilkenny Senior, Mossy Keoghan, Tipperary Senior Hurler, Barry Hogan and Treaty United's Women's soccer player Gillian Keenan. They discuss what its like being an athlete in UL, what they love about the university and what they're looking forward to post-Covid

Irish comedy legend and actor, Pat Shortt joins Nicky and Cathal for this episode of 'Are UL?'.Pat talks about leaving college to form comedy duo 'D'Unbelievables' with John Kenny, his time on Broadway and how he's looking for a room in College Court.They also chat about his time on Father Ted, Killinaskully and the infamous chart-topper 'The Jumbo Breakfast Roll'.

In this week's episode, Cathal & Nicky chat to Peadar and Patrick from Lost boys a four-piece  Irish pop band from Limerick.  They chat to guys about all things music, their band roles how they started, creating music, and much more. 

Episode 9 Jack & Jack Two former UL Student Life presidents chatted to Nicky and Cathal.They talked about being Tic Tok famous, their time in office as President, and their time in UL in general. 

Tracey Collopy and Sean Fitzpatrick join Nicky and Cathal on this week's episode of Are UL?Both Tracey and Sean are UL Alumni and are making a name for themselves in the fitness industry.  They talk about their time in UL, their fitness journey, and everything in between. 

In this episode of 'Are UL?' Communities officer Chelsea Joyce talked with William Keohane, a transgender man studying in UL. The two discussed the new UL Gender Recognition and Identity policy which is currently being developed. In this podcast William discussed what transitioning was like for him. He talks about his experience with the university for changing defining records such as student email name and parchment details. The two discuss the benefit of the new policy to future transgender students, they also talk about the importance of inclusivity  both on and off campus.

John and Brian, AKA The Performance Nerds, might look familiar to some of you who have attended their Leadership Training Module organised by the Student Leadership and Representation Office. This training helped students to get a better understanding of the overall principles, practices, and styles of leadership. Cathal and Nicky chat to Kerstin Mey, the Interim President of the University Of Limerick. Kerstin talks about growing up in Berlin, navigating a university through a global pandemic, and her love for techno music. 

Cathal & Nicky chat to Dr.Caroline West who has a Ph.D. & MA in Sexuality Studies, She is also a writer, podcaster.  Caroline focuses on feminism, sex, and the body. The guys talk to Caroline about her role and what she does. They talk about her role with third-level institutions and sex in general.  

Cathal and Nicky chat to Sarah Marnane and Siobhra Conway two student nurses who have been working on the frontline during the pandemic.Both Sarah and Siobhra talk about their experience as student nurses such as the hours they put in, the role itself and their experience of the hospital environment during Covid-19They go into detail about the conditions that nurses experience in Ireland the big question around emigration. and how they got into nursing.
