In this conversation, Adeela Johnson, CEO and co-founder of travel gear brand Béis, shares her journey from being a mom of three to leading the successful D2C brand she co-founded with actress and entrepreneur Shay Mitchell. Johnson discusses the importance of consumer-centric design, the importance of relatability in influencer marketing and what the Béis team learned from its early beginnings that helped the brand come out on top in a post-pandemic economy. Johnson also emphasizes the significance of community engagement and experiential marketing in building brand loyalty, such as the "Béis Wash" pop up event and teases future Béis plans and innovation. Noteworthy quotesThis has been edited and condensed for clarity. On authenticity and brand personality: "[Béis] is authentic to who [founder Shay Mitchell] is and obviously we leveraged her following, but it was much more than that. Her personality became the brand's personality. And that is really hard to do... it's hard to develop a sense of community and a sense of loyalty to a brand when people can't relate to it as much."On founder vision and humility: "[Mitchell] was very clear early on in the brand [stating] 'I don't want this to be Béis by Shay Mitchell.' Very intentionally, which again is very humble for a celebrity of her caliber to say, 'I want this brand to be innovative, to be meaningful, to have purpose that lives beyond me.'"On community-driven innovation: "We had this great vision — it was this huge bag and we gave it to moms in our community and they gave us such tremendous feedback. We changed it before we launched it. And we do that frequently, where we get feedback from our community on color [and needs]."On team passion and grit: "You can't replicate and you can't teach [passion]. You either have it or you don't. And when we recruit, [we] want you to have a million different perspectives. I don't want you to agree with me, but I want you to have grit and passion."On consumer-centric product development: "The goal for us is always to have consumers say, 'that is a function that I didn't know I needed and now I can't live without.' If [we] get that from a consumer, we're doing our job."On community as the next influencer: "Community [is the] next influencer and growing as a trend. We've been seeing that for years and we were founded in that."On transparency and creating behind-the-scenes content: "People want to see behind-the-scenes, relatable content. People want to see art [and they] want to know who the people are behind these brands that [they] want to build a relationship with. It's no longer about transactions."On building brand relationships beyond transactions: "People don't buy a product. They buy into a brand and they buy into a vision. They buy into a community. We leveraged Shay early in the brand to give the brand personality and make it relatable, not just a brand that existed with a bunch of products." Right now, we have the opportunity to teach our children about justice not just through words, but through action. In this solo episode, Ryan opens up about taking his kids to a protest and how that moment became a defining lesson in courage, justice, and civic responsibility. He shares how he talked to them about activism, why it's not enough to tell our kids what we believe, and how real change starts with the example we set. Give yourself the ultimate gift of parenting tools, structure, and community. In this episode of the All Things Sustainable podcast, we continue our deep dive into methane emissions. Today we're exploring the role that private equity can play in eliminating methane emissions, including at abandoned oil and gas wells.  Methane is the second largest contributor to global warming behind carbon dioxide. And the fossil fuel sector is responsible for nearly one-third of methane emissions from human activity today. Record production of oil, gas and coal, combined with limited mitigation efforts, has kept emissions above 120 million metric tons annually, according to the International Energy Agency's 2025 Global Methane Tracker published in May. The IEA calls methane abatement a “crucial opportunity” to reduce near-term global warming.  To understand how some companies are tackling methane emissions at abandoned facilities, in the episode we talk with Zefiro Methane Corp., an environmental services company that specializes in methane abatement at abandoned oil and gas wells in the US. Zefiro is a portfolio company of private equity firm X Machina Capital Strategies, or XMC, which works to transform oil and gas assets into long-term, sustainable solutions.  We speak with Catherine Flax, Founding Member and President of Private Markets at XMC. On June 5, Catherine was appointed interim CEO of Zefiro Methane Corp., where she also serves on the board.  We also talk with Talal Debs, Founder and Managing Partner of XMC. Talal was CEO of Zefiro Methane Corp. from November 2023 until June 2025.  In the episode, Talal outlines how XMC takes a "full-spectrum energy investment" approach.   "Let's take all the energy that we can get economically, but make it as clean as possible with a mind towards: what are we going to do with the mess afterwards?" he says. "If we can do that ... we're capturing the full spectrum of opportunity without ignoring the full spectrum of risks."  Listen to our previous episode on methane emissions here.  Learn about energy transition data and services from S&P Global Commodity Insights.   This piece was published by S&P Global Sustainable1, a part of S&P Global.           Copyright ©2025 by S&P Global           DISCLAIMER   By accessing this Podcast, I acknowledge that S&P GLOBAL makes no warranty, guarantee, or representation as to the accuracy or sufficiency of the information featured in this Podcast. The more the media lies, the more dangerous America becomes. Now, a slew of terrorist attacks are targeting Jewish people or events. A governor's house was firebombed; a young Jewish woman and Christian man were slaughtered; and a march for hostages was firebombed. Among the wounded was an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor. In all these cases, radicalized terrorists said they were supporting “Palestine” -- just as big mainstream media were “reporting” disproven lies about Israel's actions in Gaza. Today, a guest joins Josh to explain the “absurd” reality: Rather than correcting what people say, the media is the one that has to be corrected. Also, a new book about Biden's decline is a journalistic fiasco designed to manipulate you and get your money. Josh shares behind-the-scenes details of how CNN has done this in the past.
