Over the past few decades there has been a highly significant shift in the involvement of women within the criminal justice system, particularly Black Women. Reasons are inclusive of extensive law enforcement efforts, harsher drug sentencing laws, and post-conviction limitations to reentry that uniquely affect women. The numbers are alarming, as the female incarcerated population stands over seven times higher than in 1980. Shara and Shekina is joined by Jasmine Young, a former incarcerated woman and founder of Inmates R Us, to talk about (1). what it is like being a Black Woman in prison and (2) what life is like 10 months after her release. Jasmine is on a mission to help other women and girls not make the same mistakes she has made; as well as, provide support to current incarcerated women and their families. Let's support Jasmine Tribe! There is a Go Fund Me set up for the work she is doing under her organization: Inmates R Us and you can donate at https://gofund.me/ced62ccd To find out more about Jasmine, her story and her efforts you an visit: https://instabio.cc/inmatesrus
