Kisha A. Brown is a passionate civil rights attorney and the founder/CEO of Justis Connection, an online platform designed to connect lawyers of color with communities needing legal resources. She has extensive experience across the federal, state, local, nonprofit, and private sectors and focuses on civil rights, police reform, and empowerment. Kisha realizes that people often ask for legal referrals, but the process is inefficient, requiring multiple steps and often not connecting people of color with lawyers of color. Kisha emphasizes that many people, especially from marginalized communities, lack access to legal professionals and knowledge about their rights. Justis Connection helps people find the right lawyer for their specific legal needs, considering factors like language needs, budget, and proximity to public transportation. Kisha connects her work to the legacies of influential Black leaders like Thurgood Marshall, believing that lawyers of color are responsible for serving their communities. In addition, references Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "The Drum Major Instinct" speech, emphasizing that leadership is about serving others. Website: Justis Connection LinkedIn: Kisha A. Brown, Esq.

Welcome to the Capacity Conversations Podcast. This is what I like to call a “sister-friend” community, which is the safe space to talk openly and honestly about the challenges we face while managing the competing priorities between our personal and professional lives. Many of us are either in corporate, an entrepreneur of a combination of the two, on top of being moms, wives, caregivers, big sister's or just the go-to person in our circles of friends and families. Having all that responsibility can leave you overwhelmed and depleted if you don't take inventory of where you're at on a regular basis. In this episode, I sit down with Nakisha Hicks. She is the visionary founder of ElevateHer, LLC, , which is dedicated to empowering organizations and leaders, especially mid to senior-level Black women in HR. With nearly two decades of strategic HR experience, Nakisha provides consulting services for nonprofits and organizations serving vulnerable populations, executive coaching, and professional development programs. She is a dynamic speaker on topics such as imposter syndrome, emotional intelligence, and overcoming self-doubt, offering valuable strategies to enhance confidence and leadership. Nakisha's impactful approach has increased retention, improved compliance, and fostered inclusive workplaces. She's been featured in multiple publications such as SHRM, Lattice, and EBONY magazine, and has been a speaker at events including our very own Inaugural Capacity Conference, Transform and NAAAHRs national conference. Nakisha's influence is widely recognized as transformative within the HR landscape. We talk about what it looks and feels like to have a personal board of directors, and why it's essential for your capacity. Kisha mentioned that your board is made up of people you pay, those who are your mentors, and of course your family friends. Here's how she broke it down: The People You Pay: Doctors, therapists, coaches, financial planners, massage therapist, etc. These are the folks you invest into make sure you're healthy in every since of the word, across every pillar of capacity. The People You Seek: Mentors and people who genuinely want to see you win in life, both personally and professionally. This includes your friends, family, God-given people you've prayed for, etc. Personal Board of Directors The High 5 - think of these like the favorite 5, if you remember those from T-Mobile. These are the top five people in your circle that you communicate with, share dreams with, and you know you can call. The Core 4 - these are the people who are really-really in your corner. Not only do you share your hopes and dreams with them, but you trust them to tell you the truth, and check you, because you know its coming from a place of love. The Key 3 - these are the people you trust with your life, around your mate, kids, etc., and likely have keys to your home. These are the 3 people who have your back like nobody on the planet. After you've listened, I invite you to connect with us on social media. I love to hear how this is helping you, so make sure you tag us on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn with your favorite takeaway from the episode. As a Capacity Coach, my philosophy is that when you flow effortlessly, you flourish tremendously. And when you do, it allows you to show up in excellence in all the areas of your life. My promise is to help you increase and manage your capacity without ever having to sacrifice yourself, your family, and what matters most to you! Don't forget to subscribe, rate and review the podcast, it makes a big difference! And of course, make sure you share this with at least 3 women you know need to hear this!

Kama ningalikuwa bado kwenye kambi, nisingeweza kupiga hatua kubwa kiasi hiki.”
