Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! We have a very special episode on Qudsiya's first mother's day as a mom. Down to the Struts collaborated with the ladies of Babies Down, Bottles Up, a podcast about blind parenting featured in our feed last week. Qudsiya, Josselyn, Kisha, and Terrin had a fascinating conversation over their favorite beverages about how the law treats disabled parents, and what blind parents need to know about navigating the family regulation system. The BDBU team shared their own stories of encounters with CPS, the pressures of trying to prove you are a competent disabled parent, and the importance of fiercely protecting their dignity and autonomy in a system designed to police disabled parents because of ableist assumptions that they are not worthy of birthing and caring for children. Qudsiya, Josselyn, Terrin, and Kisha also shared important tips and resources for blind parents navigating family regulation. And, in true BDBU fashion, even as they discussed this serious topic, they managed to have some fun. Check out the original BDBU episode page for more information and resources.

THIS MOVIE DOESN'T JUST PARODY HORROR… IT PARODIES ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. A Haunted House 2 Full Length Watch Along & Early Access:   / thereelrejects   Gift Someone (Or Yourself) An RR Tee! https://shorturl.at/hekk2 John Humphrey & Jon Maturan dive into one of the wildest horror comedies of the 2010s, bringing you their A Haunted House 2 reaction, recap, commentary, breakdown, analysis, and full movie spoiler review!! John Humphrey & Jon Maturan react to and break down A Haunted House 2, directed by Michael Tiddes and starring Marlon Wayans (White Chicks, Scary Movie) as Malcolm Johnson, alongside Jaime Pressly (My Name Is Earl, Joe Dirt) as Megan, Essence Atkins (Smart Guy, Half & Half) as Kisha, Cedric the Entertainer (Barbershop, Madagascar) as Father Williams, and Gabriel Iglesias (Mr. Iglesias, Magic Mike) as Miguel. The film follows Malcolm as he attempts to move on from the supernatural events of the first movie, only to find himself caught in another paranormal nightmare after moving into a new house with Megan and her children. As highlighted throughout the reaction, the movie pulls heavily from horror hits like The Conjuring, Annabelle, Sinister, Paranormal Activity, and Insidious, constantly escalating its parody humor into complete absurdity Key moments include the cursed doll Abigail, the increasingly ridiculous possession sequences, nonstop found-footage chaos, and the film's over-the-top exorcism finale. The reaction repeatedly calls out how committed Marlon Wayans is to the physical comedy and just how aggressively the movie throws jokes at the audience—whether they land or not. From bizarre horror references to completely unhinged visual gags, A Haunted House 2 leans all the way into ridiculousness, creating a horror parody experience that's equal parts chaotic, uncomfortable, and strangely entertaining.#AHauntedHouse2 #MarlonWayans #MovieReaction #HorrorComedy #ScaryMovie #ParodyMovie #Annabelle #Conjuring #ComedyReaction #filmreaction Follow Jon Maturan: https://www.instagram.com/jonmaturan/?hl=en Intense Suspense by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... We're back with the final installment of our mini series featuring some fabulous disability podcasts that the team has been enjoying lately. Here at Down to the Struts, we explore disability, design, and intersectionality, including the multitude of identities each of us holds and how they shape—and are shaped by—the world around us. A new identity for Qudsiya showed up when she became a parent with a disability. She wanted to learn from the many disabled parents who've come before her, so she went in search of them. She was delighted when she found the ladies of Babies Down, Bottles Up, a podcast featuring blind moms, bold stories, and a splash of wine. Today, we're sharing one of Qudsiya's favorite BDBU episodes, “Canes, Trains, and Planes,” which offers practical advice for traveling with children while blind. Send us Fan MailWe sit down with executive coach Kisha Wynter to name the leadership skill almost no one teaches: power literacy, the ability to navigate organizational power dynamics and build influence without formal authority. Kisha breaks down the mystery of why top performers still get stuck and how plugging “power leaks” helps leaders speak up, advocate for their teams, and drive enterprise impact. Plus, we explore and discuss:• power literacy as a core leadership competency beyond hard work and expertise • why cross-functional influence determines promotions and initiative traction • the shared responsibility between leaders and organizations to build this capability • reframing power as values-based and generative rather than destructive • power leaks as learned survival responses, not personal failure • common leaks like hesitation, over-accommodation, weak boundaries, and avoiding visibility • practical ways to plug leaks through preparation, speaking early, and voice practice • decoding the visible org chart versus the invisible influence web • “who influences the influencers” and why decisions happen before meetings • framing, trigger words, and adapting language to organizational context Find this dynamic leader on LinkedIn by @Kisha Winter, or on her website, yourpoweronleashed.com.Support the showBelemLeaders–Your organization's trusted partner for leader and team development. What does it really take to stay steady when everything around you feels uncertain? In this episode of Becoming Unshakeable, I sit down with Kisha Wynter, an executive coach and former GE leader, to explore what steadiness actually looks like in real life. Not the polished version of leadership we often see on the surface, but the kind that is built through self-awareness, difficult personal moments, and a willingness to keep returning to the work. Kisha shares how her own journey through corporate leadership, personal change, and moments of deep self-doubt shaped her understanding of what it means to lead from within. We talk openly about the difference between appearing strong and being truly steady. Kisha reflects on a defining moment in her career when self-doubt surfaced during a high-stakes interview, forcing her to confront the internal narrative many leaders quietly carry. That experience became a turning point, leading her to invest in her own development and, eventually, to support others through similar challenges. It is a reminder that leadership growth is rarely linear and often deeply personal. Our conversation also explores the role of support systems, something many leaders struggle to fully embrace. From mentors and sponsors to everyday acts of compassion, Kisha highlights how progress is often shaped by the people around us. We also unpack the idea that trying to do everything alone can quietly undermine both confidence and sustainability over time. One of the most powerful themes in this discussion is the role of gratitude as a daily practice. Kisha explains how intentionally reflecting on small moments of support and progress can shift perspective and build a sense of stability, even during uncertain times. It is a simple idea, yet one that can reshape how leaders experience pressure, setbacks, and growth. This episode is a thoughtful reflection on what it means to lead with intention, to recognize when you are off center, and to keep coming back to practices that restore clarity and confidence. It is about doing the internal work that allows leadership to feel real, sustainable, and human. How are you building steadiness in your own leadership when the pressure starts to rise?

At the age of 31, shortly after giving birth to her son Diego, Kisha Stewart experienced a life-threatening heart attack caused by a rare and often under-recognized condition called SCAD. What started as what she thought was normal postpartum fatigue quickly turned into chest pain, dizziness, and nausea — symptoms that could have been easily dismissed. In this episode, Kisha opens up about that terrifying night, the role her intuition played in getting the care she needed, and the challenges of navigating gender bias in the healthcare system. She also shares her journey of rebuilding both her physical health and trust in her body, and offers vital insight into warning signs every woman should know. This is a story of resilience, awareness, and empowerment that every listener can learn from. About Kisha Stewart: Kisha Stewart, a nurse and mother of three, survived a near-fatal "widowmaker" heart attack (SCAD) at age 31, just two weeks after giving birth. What if the habits, patterns, and even money struggles you've been carrying aren't flaws… but old programs ready to be gently released? In this episode entitled “Breaking Cycles,” I'm joined by Kisha Reynolds, a certified clinical hypnotherapist who helps people break free from deeply rooted patterns—especially body-focused behaviors and long-held scarcity beliefs—using the powerful tools of the subconscious mind. Kisha shares her own path into hypnotherapy and why gratitude, breathwork, and intention aren't just “nice ideas,” but practical ways to raise your frequency and open the door to real change. We talk about simple, creative gratitude practices, how old beliefs get stored in the body, and what it looks like to lovingly rewrite those inner scripts that keep us stuck. You'll also hear a powerful client story around releasing financial blocks, plus Krisha gently guides us through a calming progressive relaxation you can feel in your body right away. If you've ever felt caught in a loop—pulling, striving, or scarcity thinking—this conversation offers a softer, wiser way forward. Settle in, take a breath, and let's begin breaking cycles… from the inside out.

“Serving your soul one plate at a time,” Ms. Kisha declares—and from there her story cooks: taught collards by “my grandma, my mom,” rooted in Tuscaloosa-to-Detroit migration “for the motor industry,” raised on the East Side and Kettering '95, where a senior-year leap into swimming turned into being “seventh in the state,” all because of “somebody just believing in my ability when I didn't even see it.” That belief now seasons her kitchen—family-run with “kitchen kin folk,” a husband she calls the engine of the business, and a commitment to community-first numbers: “I'm not going to take you down half the size and still charge you $2 more.” She breaks down sourcing like a Detroiter who knows the land and the people—Eastern Market relationships and an instant bond with Mama Tree (“we went directly to the farm”) to marry agriculture and culinary at the Collard Green Cookoff, where 60 pounds of greens won her the championship (“I cook them 10 pounds at a time… my hands are still hurting”). Khary and Ms. Kisha connect it all to Legacy Black Detroit—the grandma's party store on Helen & Lambert she'd rename “Verna May Harris Boulevard,” the porch-to-pop-up continuum, the Big Three jobs and backyard grills—showing how our past nourishes our future, one plate, one farm partner, one family recipe at a time. Kisha A. Brown is a passionate civil rights attorney and the founder/CEO of Justis Connection, an online platform designed to connect lawyers of color with communities needing legal resources.    She has extensive experience across the federal, state, local, nonprofit, and private sectors and focuses on civil rights, police reform, and empowerment.   Kisha realizes that people often ask for legal referrals, but the process is inefficient, requiring multiple steps and often not connecting people of color with lawyers of color.    Kisha emphasizes that many people, especially from marginalized communities, lack access to legal professionals and knowledge about their rights.   Justis Connection helps people find the right lawyer for their specific legal needs, considering factors like language needs, budget, and proximity to public transportation.   Kisha connects her work to the legacies of influential Black leaders like Thurgood Marshall, believing that lawyers of color are responsible for serving their communities.   In addition, references Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "The Drum Major Instinct" speech, emphasizing that leadership is about serving others.    Website: Justis Connection  LinkedIn: Kisha A.
