Just a no-talent hack from Portland, I make mix-tapes for slogging through early morning runs or long hours at the laptop. I like the more laid back Trap infused with RnB elements, but have been known to lay down a deep house set from time to time.

Let not my love be called idolatry, Nor my beloved as an idol show, Since all alike my songs and praises be To one, of one, still such, and ever so. Kind is my love to-day, to-morrow kind, Still constant in a wondrous excellence; Therefore my verse to constancy confined, One thing expressing, leaves out difference. Fair, kind, and true, is all my argument, Fair, kind, and true, varying to other words; And in this change is my invention spent, Three themes in one, which wondrous scope affords. Fair, kind, and true, have often lived alone, Which three till now, never kept seat in one. -- Shakespeare Beats by IAMNOBODI, Esta, Tajan, Ta-ku, Sango, Dpat etc... Sounds you probably know - but this was made especially for my wife on Valentine's Day who doesn't know any of these tracks. She loved it.

As a musical (as opposed to a mixing) style, tech-house uses the same basic structure as house. However, elements of the house 'sound' such as realistic jazz sounds (in deep house) and booming kick drums are replaced with elements from techno such as shorter, deeper, darker and often distorted kicks, smaller, quicker hi-hats, noisier snares and more synthetic or acid sounding synth melodies from the TB-303, including raw electronic noises from distorted sawtooth and square wave oscillators. Some producers also add soulful vocals and elements, and equally as much raw electronic sounds in their music. However, a rich techno-like kick and bassline seems to be a consistency amongst tech house music. Tech-house fans tend to appreciate subtlety, as well as the “middle ground” that adds a “splash of color to steel techno beats” and eschews the “banging” of house music for intricate rhythms. In contrast to most progressive house, which tends to have a progression over the course of the mix ending in an ecstatic release of energy at the end, tech-house often aims at achieving an even “groove.” - Wikipedia
This mix probably means more to me then any other mix I ever recorded. It reflects when I first started playing vinyl. All of the time that I spent learning how to beatmatch, how to phrase songs, and how to mix effectively with the EQ. All of that time, effort, and work. This mix is all progressive breaks effectively from 2003-5 This is when I graduated college, and this is when I got my first set of turntables as a graduation gift. Progressive House was in its waning years, but Nu-Skool Breaks and Progressive Breaks were excellent genres at the time. I really took to that sound, so when I first started playing vinyl - these were the records I taught myself to play. I remember waiting weeks for these to arrive in the mail and the anticipation of playing them. This mix is based on the mp3s that I could obtain but I own a majority of this tracklist on vinyl. There are some real classics in here from Hybrid, Fretwell to Habersham, Infusion, Phil K, Luke Chable and Greyarea to name a few. Most of my mixes normally run about an hour - but when you are feeling it, you are feeling it. I may not play breaks anymore, but if need to I can still get my hands dirty.
Although my tastes can be a little eclectic at times with what I throw together - Deep House will always remain my bread and butter. Melodic and soulful it's easy for me to listen to. I love these kind of mixes for when I'm grinding out a particularly long run and the weather is beautiful. First spring run comes to mind. This mix reminds me of that and was put together just this last June of 2013. Apologies for slightly overdoing the FX. Quite a few pints were downed while recording this - so I got giddy.
Recorded back in April 2009 the weekend of my 30th birthday. I was stoked to be starting a new job and excited about turning 30. So this mix was chock full of indie-electro. I think I listened to this at the gym at least a hundred times or so. Busted it out a few weeks ago on run around town and forgot how much I liked it.
Another classic mix. This was recorded back in summer of 2010 for my good friends Dominick and Cheri. They wanted something to set the mood for their big outdoor event - so I threw together some nu-disco and deep house to get things suave. Rico Suave to be exact. One of Dom's favorites.
This is the first official episode of hopefully a long running project. I'd like to get more of my mixes out to friends, family, and strangers. This mix was recorded the day of Hood 2 Coast the 'Mother of All Relays'. Google that if you aren't familiar - then put it on your bucket list because it's awesome sauce. This particular diddy is full of trap, with a little footwork/juke/ghetto-tech sprinkled in towards the end to bring everyone down gently. I blasted this on my portable speaker while running my legs of the relay. Trap isn't normally my cup of tea - but it works well when hauling ass in the middle of the night with thousands of other people on a foggy coastal highway.
