As a special invitation in the middle of our summer exploring desire and intimacy in marriage, Christa pauses to learn from and to share an experience with a soulful friend, welcoming Meredith Hite Estevez, a Juilliard-trained oboist, writer, creative coach, and Enneagram Type 4 married to a Type 7, for a conversation about her beautiful new book, Art Is How God Loves Us. Meredith reframes art not as a measure of talent but as something available to every one of us, a way God speaks, heals, and draws us close. Together they explore how beauty and brokenness alike become places of divine connection, why creativity is a form of communion, and what it means to see yourself as a work of art, beloved, unfinished, and held by a Creator who has not stopped creating you. This is an invitation to dig in personally, not just as a couple, but just you and God! In this episode, Merideth Hite Estevez joins me to talk about what happens when a lifetime of chasing excellence quietly empties out the joy that started it all. We dig into the idols hiding inside performance and perfectionism, why she redefines art not as a talent for the gifted few but as something anyone can do out of love, and what it means to create as an act of worship instead of proof of worth. It's a conversation about shame, recovery, and the spiritual thread running through every creative act - whether you call yourself an artist or not.Dr. Merideth Hite Estevez is a coach, educator, oboist, and author of The Artist's Joy. Through her workshops, her award-winning podcast Artists for Joy, and her one-to-one coaching, she is a spiritual space-maker for artists, leading thousands in various fields to creative recovery. Dr. Estevez has performed with top orchestras and holds degrees in oboe from The Juilliard School and Yale School of Music. Her writing, which Publishers Weekly calls “expansive and joyful,” illuminates the spiritual journey of the artist. Her next book, Art Is How God Loves Us, debuts in July 2026. She hails from Abbeville, SC, but now lives in Metro Detroit, Michigan, with her husband, Rev. Dr. Edwin Estevez, and their two children.Merideth's Book:Art is How God Loves UsMerideth's Recommendation:CounterweightsConnect with Joshua: jjohnson@shiftingculturepodcast.comGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com to interact and donate. Despite being one of the leading thinkers of the second wave feminist movement, today Shere Hite is little known, little written about, and, unsurprisingly, little read. Her groundbreaking book, The Hite Report, was the first feminist exploration of the link between sex and male power. It sold millions of copies when first published in 1976 and revolutionised the way people thought about marriage and the female orgasm. How, then, did it, and Hite, disappear from public consciousness? In The Book that Taught the World to Orgasm and then Disappeared: Shere Hite and The Hite Report (Melville House and New South, 2026), Australian historian Dr. Rosa Campbell combines original research and sharp cultural analysis to explore the complicated life and literary legacy of Shere Hite. Expanding on her ideas about sex – namely, that sex is sexist – the book explores Hite's fraught childhood, struggles working in the porn industry, and eventual cancellation by the far-right Evangelical movement. All the while, Dr. Campbell holds Hite and The Hite Report to account for their own failings and absence of intersectionality. In a post-#MeToo world, with the far-right on the march globally, Dr. Rosa Campbell's examination of shifting ideological movements is essential to understanding the current feminist movement, as well as how conservative and reactionary efforts can silence even the most successful of women. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Jenny describes dissociation as the feeling of not being fully present, not quite in the body, and not able to feel one's weight connected to the earth. Danielle adds her own experience of dissociation through music, piano, and “slow time,” complicating the idea that dissociation is always pathological. Together, they make space for dissociation as both a protective strategy and a collective danger: something that can offer relief, but can also allow people and communities to remain absent from suffering, violence, and accountability. The conversation then turns toward whiteness, privilege, and what Danielle names “the white tax”—the cost of pseudo-belonging to systems of dominance. Jenny connects privilege to disembodiment, describing how whiteness and supremacy ask people to gain the world while losing access to soul, embodiment, reciprocity, and aliveness. Danielle extends this through the metaphor of Jason Bourne: “Look at what they make you give,” naming the severing of family, home, connection, erotic energy, food, dance, and presence as part of the cost of assimilation into power. From there, Danielle and Jenny ask what it means to practice another way of living. They discuss therapy's ethical dilemma: whether it helps people survive oppressive systems just enough to continue participating in them, or whether it can become part of creating something new. Jenny imagines a slower world, less obsessed with capitalist productivity, where people have enough, creativity is not tied to extraction, and collective wisdom replaces hierarchy. Danielle brings this into concrete community care through mutual aid, access to blood pressure cuffs, medical knowledge, herbs, and shared histories. The episode closes with hope grounded not in denial, but in practice: Jenny's experience traveling through forty-four states and finding communities everywhere building different ways of living; Danielle's garden, walk-running, lifting weights, and touching the earth; Jenny's book on the trauma of privilege and the hope of regaining soul through embodiment. The conversation becomes an invitation to return to the body, not as a private wellness project, but as a communal and political act of repair. Well, first I guess I would have to believe that there was or is an actual political dialogue taking place that I could potentially be a part of. And honestly, I'm not sure that I believe that.

With the national debt approaching $35 trillion, one South Florida financial expert is urging Congress to consider a surprisingly simple fix, without raising taxes. Nancy Hite, CFP®, AIF®, a nationally recognized fiduciary and founder of The Strategic Wealth Advisor®, says the solution is hidden in plain sight: retirement plans. Hite, author of The Retirement Mirage: Time to Think Differently, is launching a campaign, to spotlight how a Roth mandate in retirement plans could generate significant, voluntary tax revenue for the U.S. Treasury. “If Congress required all retirement plans to offer a Roth option, Americans could choose to pay taxes up front on a portion of their savings, accelerating revenue to reduce the deficit, while securing tax-free income for themselves in retirement,” said Hite. Hite explains that more than $39 trillion in retirement assets currently represent future tax liabilities. With even a small shift into Roth-style accounts, Hite says the impact could be massive, and politically feasible. We'd love to connect you with Nancy for a feature, segment, or quote on this timely, bipartisan economic solution as the 2025 election season heats up.

In this episode, Rosa unpacks the groundbreaking (and controversial) legacy of Shere Hite and her bestselling work, The Hite Report—a feminist text that revolutionized how we talk about women's pleasure, desire, and dissatisfaction. We get into Hite's unlikely path—from being raised by a single mom in a conservative environment to modeling and working in the sex industry—and how those experiences uniquely positioned her to challenge dominant narratives about sex. We also explore the global impact of The Hite Report, the cultural backlash that ultimately erased Hite from mainstream feminist history, and why her work is still relevant today despite all the progress. Yet days into the 2026 investigation, the Fargo Police Department pivoted and charged her boyfriend, 21-year-old Joshua Hite, for her murder.  Based on evidence collected, investigators believe Isadora Wengel was likely dismembered.  Despite the murder charge, Isadora Wengel's remains have not been located. They are asking people in Ottertail County, Minnesota to keep their eyes out for a 27-gallon tote with a red lid. Specifically, they believe she could be found in Fergus Falls, Battle Lake or Elizabeth. We explore Andy's Six Shifts Leadership Operating System: Trust, Candor, Ownership, Empowerment, Alignment, and Leadership—a framework that turns groups of executives into high-performing, strategically aligned leadership teams. Andy shares why self-leadership is the starting point for culture change, how to move from hub-and-spoke decision-making to empowered departmental ownership, and why peer accountability and “The Gym of Life” are essential for lasting leadership growth. --- Take Your People to the Gym of Life with Andy Hite Good day, listeners. Steve Preda here with the Management Blueprint Podcast, and my guest today is Andy Hite, the founder of Scaling Minds Coaching and Consulting, helping leaders navigate complexity, align their teams, and drive meaningful results. Andy, welcome to the show. Hey, Steve. Thanks for having me. I'm excited for the conversation. Yeah, you've got a great story. You've got a great business. And let's get into it with my favorite question, which is, what is your personal “Why” and what are you doing to manifest it in your business? Yeah, I love that question. Because most people can answer what is your “Why.” They might reach for something, but I love the follow-up. What are you actually doing to manifest it? Because that's the part that a lot of people don't always consider. I have a personal and a professional “Why.” My personal “Why,” I really landed on seven, eight years ago. My personal “Why” is to show my children that they can do and be and achieve anything they want. My kids are now 19, twin daughters, by the way. And as most parents do when they're younger, as they're growing up, we tell them these things. Hey, you can do anything, you could be anything, you can create anything. But I was confronted maybe eight years ago with walking the walk, not just talking the talk. I had a corporate gig and the thought and idea of starting this business was there. And for a while, I kind of put blinders on because truthfully, as many of your listeners can imagine, I'm sure you can imagine as well, leaving something that's steady and secure to start over in your forties is really, really scary, and most people, I talked to a lot of people, entrepreneurs, they're like, I can't do it. I have a family of obligations, I have bills. And I was confronted with that. I've been telling my kids this forever, am I living it? Am I actually going after the things that I want? And so I didn't want my words to be hollow. So I started walking the walk. I left that work and I started this business. And every day, as entrepreneurs know, can be a struggle as we're building. And so it's really just showing them, hey, if you're willing to put in the work, you can create anything. You can be anything.Share on X So that's a long-winded answer, Steve, of what my personal “Why” is and how I get up every morning thinking about, don't be a hypocrite, go do the work and show them. I tell this to my kids as well, that the biggest thing about being a father is that, or any parent, is that there's nowhere to hide. So, you really have to evoke, otherwise you are a hypocrite and it's not always easy. You have to really do the right thing, not just pretend you're doing the right thing because they're gonna see it. Yeah, well, and I didn't want my words to just be for them or hollow. So I was forced to kind of walk the walk and thank God I did. Yeah. Okay, well, I'm sure that there is another motivation behind this. It's not just the show for the kids. You've got to love what you're doing. So, tell me a little bit about what you do and specifically you develop the leadership operating system called Six Shifts.

Let me know your thoughts on the show and what topic you would like me to discuss next. What if the stress and pressure you've been taught are necessary for success are actually holding you back? Dr. Brian Hite, high-performance psychologist and professional stuntman with over 30 years of experience in Hollywood and elite military training, shares groundbreaking insights that challenge everything we think we know about performing under pressure.Drawing from both Eastern and Western philosophies, Brian reveals that pressure isn't something inherent in situations—it exists only in our minds when we focus on potential consequences rather than present actions. He carefully distinguishes between stress (which stems from perceiving situations as threatening) and pressure (which comes from fixating on future outcomes), offering a revolutionary framework for eliminating both.Through his Phase X methodology, Brian breaks down performance into four critical phases—before, right before, during, and after—providing actionable strategies for managing your physical, mental, emotional, and social states in each phase. This structured approach transforms overwhelming high-stakes moments into manageable processes where you can maintain focus on what truly matters.Perhaps most compelling is Brian's insight about opportunity in challenging situations. He explains that seizing opportunities requires three elements: the awareness to recognize possibilities, the flexibility to pivot from established paths, and the courage to take that first step into the unknown. His concept of the "point of no return"—that liberating moment where commitment becomes complete and anxiety often vanishes—offers a powerful reframe for anyone facing difficult decisions.Whether you're struggling with career challenges, relationship conversations, or personal growth obstacles, Brian's practical wisdom will help you transform how you experience life's most demanding moments. Stop enduring pressure and start eliminating it. Justin Hite has worked with some of Kaua‘i's rarest forest birds like the ʻAkekeʻe and the ‘Akikiki, down to the last individuals in the remote ʻAlakaʻi rain forests. As the former field supervisor of the Kaua‘i Forest Bird Recovery Project over a decade, he helped track and collect eggs of these incredibly rare birds for captive propagation to establish “emergency” populations in the event of their extinction in the wild. His career as a birder spans decades across multiple continents and countries to Kauai where he spent over 1,000 field nights camping in remote terrain. He talks about his field adventures and his current work on the Birds Not Mosquitos project which aims to reduce the most serious existential threat to Hawaiian honeycreepers: fatal diseases carried by mosquitoes.

Our lives are not the movies.  When sudden, unpredictable events like family hardships or natural disasters strike, it can feel like we're living in one. When she's not working, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, their dog, exploring local breweries, and staying active outdoors.
