Molly makes her escape from St. Andrews, where Tostig and Sakros have threatened to burn to the abbey, along with all the monks, unless Cuthbert turns the Codex over to him. The demonic Kato Sakros, who is nearly as old as civilization itself, learns that his book, which he has been seeking for centuries, is now at the abbey. Edwyn, whom Prior Cuthbert has been told the horrible story about the fate and transformation of his father, Wulfric, goes to Hamsterly to see if it's true.
