Virginia Hall wanted to be a diplomat, but the State Department kept shutting doors in her face …and then she lost her leg in a hunting accident, which seemed like she'd reached a dead end. Never one to accept defeat, she learned how to walk again on a wooden leg nicknamed “Cuthbert,” and headed straight into the world of espionage.Once she got to France, she ran circles around the Nazi intelligence services during WW2. The Gestapo actually called her “the most dangerous Allied agent in France”; her actions, and those of her compatriots, changed the course of the war. Learn more about your ad choices. On 18th July 1914, a school cricket match was played in Holt, North Norfolk. By the end of the Great War, 11 of the 24 players who took part were dead, victims of the Great War. This is their story. We follow the story of 2 brothers who played in the game, Mark and Cuthbert. They died within weeks of each other, Mark on the Somme battlefield and Cuthbert during the Battle of Jutland. What are their stories and what do their poems and letters home tell us about them? We also discover how writing a book about them helped a teacher at the school comes to terms with the death of her daughter, and how she got to understand these lads and how their deaths affected the Headmaster of the school, George Howson.

Interview with Shubham Garg, Executive Chairman & CEO of Prospera EnergyRecording date: 21st July 2026Prospera Energy Inc. (TSXV:PEI) is a Calgary-headquartered heavy-oil producer executing a well-reactivation strategy across its Cuthbert, Luseland, Hearts Hill, and Brooks properties in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Since a board and management transition in October 2024, led by CEO and Executive Chairman Shubham Garg, the company has shifted away from new drilling toward reactivating wells that were shut in due to prior operators' lack of capital and technical focus rather than poor underlying geology. The model is capital-light: each reactivation costs approximately $150,000, with typical payback in 6-8 months and a second payback cycle following within 12-14 months, as production continues to climb rather than decline in the manner of a shale well. Management has completed at least 17 reactivations to date against an inventory of more than 140 candidates, of which 42 have now been screened as "Tier One" and is expected to pay back in under nine months.Financially, the company is mid-close on a $12 million non-brokered private placement at $0.04 per unit with proceeds split between the reactivation programme ($10 million) and working capital ($2 million). The balance sheet currently carries approximately $21 million of senior debt and $7 million of subordinated debt, both largely held by board members and large shareholders, alongside roughly $75.8 million in accumulated tax pools that management expects will shelter cash income tax for several years. The company has stated an intention to retire approximately $30 million in combined debt and royalty obligations within 24 months of the financing's close.Production stood at approximately 800 boe/d gross up from a first-quarter average of 720 boe/d. Realized netbacks improved sharply through Q1 2026, from $4.78/BOE in January to $27.70/BOE in March, tracking a broader strengthening in Western Canada Select pricing tied to the Strait of Hormuz supply disruption. Management expects Q2 2026, due to be reported around mid-August, to be the company's strongest quarter to date, with a netback approaching $30/BOE.On reserves, Prospera's 2025 year-end report shows 1P before-tax NPV10 of $130.6 million and 2P of $202.0 million, with proved developed producing value guided to grow from $27 million to approximately $65 million by year-end 2026 as newly reactivated wells are recognized. Management also anticipates a further positive technical revision once more production history accumulates on wells already outperforming initial decline assumptions, expected to show up in the April 2027 reserve report.Risks include commodity price sensitivity (a stated pause threshold near $55/barrel WTI), execution risk around sand management in reactivated wells, and an unreconciled gap between the board-ownership figure cited by management (52%) and the insider-ownership figure shown in company materials (36%).Learn more: https://cruxinvestor.comSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Louisiana's congressional election map is unconstitutional. Governor Jeff Landry quickly responded with an emergency declaration to suspend the ongoing congressional primary election. While the state argues it now has to redraw the maps  before the election can move forward, some legal experts are asking whether it's right to suspend an election when some voters have already cast absentee ballots. Dane Ciolino, professor at Loyola New Orleans College of Law, and Peter Robins-Brown, executive director of Louisiana Progress, spoke with WRKF's Adam Vos for more.Longtime Times-Picayune theater critic and entertainment writer David Cuthbert passed away one week ago. For 43 years, he was at the front of showbiz information and profiled legends in the industry. From copy boy to editor of the paper's TV Focus, his writings showcased his thirst for entertainment news and his love of New Orleans theatre. He was 79. Just over a year ago, Cuthbert joined WWNO's Bob Pavlovich around the time of Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary. He discussed the time SNL came for Mardi Gras, the ill-fated show and his experience interviewing original cast members.  ___Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Alana Schreiber. The story of the lands between the Forth and Humber from the end of the Roman period to the Viking kingdom of York is one of the most richly fascinating in British history. This the age of Lindisfarne and of Bede; of the dramatic hills, valleys and ancient routeways that link the Irish Sea and the North Sea; of names that resonate even now: Edwin, Oswald, Hild, Cuthbert, Wilfrid; of conquest, conversion and the legacies of intellectual giants. Northumbria AD 367-867: Earth Hall, Ring Gift and Heaven's Field (Birlinn, 2025) by Max Adams and Colm O'Brien is a history of Early Medieval Northumbria that explores themes of landscape, power, creativity and intellect. Fresh archaeological evidence and research in historical geography shed light on the fascinating story of how land was managed, exploited and deployed as an expression of power by both secular and ecclesiastical forces, and aspects such as the role of élite women in shaping politics and religion is given new focus. Dr. Adams and Dr. O' Brien show conclusively how Northumbria's political, cultural and religious elements coalesced to forge a creative powerhouse which shaped the world we have inherited. In this episode I sit down with Andrew and Kara Root to talk about their new book, A Pilgrimage Into Letting Go. Written out of their journey walking St. Cuthbert's Way with their children, the book reflects on parenting, pastoring, and the hard but necessary work of releasing control. Together we explore why modern life pushes us to manage every detail, how uncontrollability can actually be a gift, and what it looks like to see parenting as a pilgrimage. Along the way, we talk about prayer as listening, the difference between being a tourist and a pilgrim, and the ways God encounters us when we surrender to presence. This is a conversation about trust, family, and faith that invites us to walk with open hands and open hearts.Andrew Root is the Carrie Olson Baalson Professor of Youth and Family Ministry at Luther Seminary, USA. He writes and researches in areas of theology, ministry, culture and younger generations.  His most recent books are Evangelism in an Age of Despair (Baker, 2025), The Church in an Age of Secular Mysticisms (Baker, 2023), Churches and the Crisis of Decline (Baker, 2022), The Congregation in a Secular Age (Baker, 2021), and The Pastor in a Secular Age: Ministry to People Who No Longer Need God (Baker, 2019). In addition, he serves as theologian in residence for Youthfront. Rev. Kara K. Root is the author of The Deepest Belonging (2021) and Receiving This Life: (2023). Pastor of Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis, MN, a Christian community that shapes its life around worship, hospitality and Sabbath rest, she is a trained Spiritual Director and Certified Educator in the PCUSA.  Being mom to two intriguing teenagers (and a sweet dog), and wife and proofreader to a wily theologian, spices up her vocational calling and keeps her fully immersed in life. She has written for Sparkhouse, Working Preacher, Christian Century, Christianity Today, Faith and Leadership, Patheos and more. Kara leads retreats and workshops on sabbath rest, prayer practices, and church leadership and transformation.  Andy & Kara's Book:A Pilgrimage Into Letting GoKara's Recommendation:How to Inhabit TimeSubscribe to Our Substack: Shifting CultureConnect with Joshua: jjohnson@allnations.usGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com to interact and donate. As online booking grew, Rod correctly predicted that travel agents would become outmoded, and began working with local providers to help travelers book anything from skip-the-line tours of the Sistine Chapel to cooking lessons in a Thai kitchen.
