Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Louisiana's congressional election map is unconstitutional. Governor Jeff Landry quickly responded with an emergency declaration to suspend the ongoing congressional primary election. While the state argues it now has to redraw the maps  before the election can move forward, some legal experts are asking whether it's right to suspend an election when some voters have already cast absentee ballots. Dane Ciolino, professor at Loyola New Orleans College of Law, and Peter Robins-Brown, executive director of Louisiana Progress, spoke with WRKF's Adam Vos for more.Longtime Times-Picayune theater critic and entertainment writer David Cuthbert passed away one week ago. For 43 years, he was at the front of showbiz information and profiled legends in the industry. From copy boy to editor of the paper's TV Focus, his writings showcased his thirst for entertainment news and his love of New Orleans theatre. He was 79. Just over a year ago, Cuthbert joined WWNO's Bob Pavlovich around the time of Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary. The Nazi Blitz of 1940–41, followed by V1 flying bombs and V2 rocket attacks in 1944, caused devastating destruction. Nearly 30,000 civilians were killed, more than one million homes were destroyed or damaged, and 1.5 million people were left homeless. It took decades for London to be rebuilt into the great international city it is today.Today, however, another kind of rebuilding is urgently needed. Across our societies there is a moral, social, and spiritual breakdown. Individuals need rebuilding. Families weakened by tension and divorce need rebuilding. Integrity in public life must be restored. Divided communities and nations must be rebuilt.God is the great builder and rebuilder. No matter how far gone a person, family, or nation may seem, God can bring transformation. This is a central theme in the final chapters of Isaiah.Isaiah 58:12“ Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”This verse speaks powerfully about rebuilding societies that have lost their foundations.1. IT IS TIME TO RAISE UP OLD FOUNDATIONS (Isaiah 58:12) For many decades, cultural and political forces have attempted to remove Christian influence from public life. Yet the foundations remain. Britain and many nations in the Western world were built on the values of the Bible and the Christian faith.Throughout history, courageous believers helped shape society:* Celtic Christian leaders such as Cuthbert spread the gospel across Britain.* Reformers like Ridley, Latimer, and John Knox called nations back to biblical truth.* Social reformers including William Wilberforce, Lord Shaftesbury, Elizabeth Fry, and William and Catherine Booth transformed society through Christian conviction. * Great preachers such as John Wesley, George Whitefield, and Charles Spurgeon brought spiritual renewal to entire nations. * Missionaries like William Carey, David Livingstone, Hudson Taylor, Gladys Aylward, and C.T. Studd carried the gospel to the nations. These men and women laid spiritual foundations that shaped societies. Their example shows how Christianity can influence every area of life and culture.  Those ancient foundations still exist, and they must be raised up again.2. IT IS TIME FOR CHRISTIANS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY (Isaiah 58:12) The rebuilding will not happen automatically. God calls His people to take responsibility.History shows that change often begins with individuals who respond to God's call. When Jerusalem lay in ruins, God stirred the heart of Nehemiah.Nehemiah 1:4 “When I heard these things, I sat down and wept… for some days I mourned and fasted and prayed.”Nehemiah mobilised others, and despite great opposition the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt in only 52 days.Throughout the Bible, individuals responded to God's call in public life—Joseph, Moses, Daniel, Esther, and Deborah. Today there is also a need for Christians to serve faithfully in every sphere of society: In politics and public leadership, In business and employment, In education, law, healthcare, and media In ministry as pastors, evangelists, teachers, and missionariesWhen believers shine the light of Christ in every area of life, society begins to change. Families Must Take Responsibility Rebuilding also begins in the home.Ezra 1:5 “Then the family heads of Judah and Benjamin… everyone whose heart God had moved—prepared to go up and build the house of the Lord.”Strong Christian families influence communities and nations. When homes are filled with faith, unity, and discipleship, they become powerful centres of spiritual influence.The Church Must Take ResponsibilityThe church is not primarily buildings or institutions but communities of committed followers of Jesus Christ.Matthew 16:18 “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”When the church lives as a holy community—pursuing righteousness, justice, and mercy—it becomes a powerful force for transformation.Ephesians 6:12 reminds believers that spiritual battles are real: “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood… but against the spiritual forces of evil.”Every member matters in God's work—men and women, young and old, families, singles, new believers and mature Christians. Each person has a role in rebuilding what has been broken.3. IT IS TIME TO HAVE FAITH REBUILDING WILL HAPPEN (Isaiah 61:4) This promise is not uncertain—it declares that restoration will come. Even when societies seem spiritually devastated, God can raise up a new generation filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to rebuild what has been broken. The situation may be dark, but Christ is the light. Society may seem broken, but God is still able to restore. Generations may have drifted from truth, yet the ancient foundations of God's Word remain. God's promises and His power have not changed.ConclusionThe foundations are still there. The call now is to rebuild.By aligning our lives with God, strengthening our families, and living as the church in the world, believers can help restore what has been damaged and raise up new generations built on biblical truth.God still calls His people to be “Repairers of Broken Walls” and “Restorers of Streets with Dwellings.”The time has come to rebuild.

And London be a very wicked place, so it hath been told, with whores, beggars and cutpurses on every street corner, The journey of Lady Emily Arundel and her daughter Annabelle had been an uneventful one so far. "And when we arrive at Mablethorpe Hall, be sure to show your appreciation to Lord Barrington-Smythe. His son, William, wishes to seek your hand in marriage," Lady Emily began. "Yes Mother," her daughter replied, with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. "His estate comprises over a hundred acres of land," "Well, hark at that!" "owns several horses related to Whistlejacket," Annabelle struggled to contain a sigh. "properties in the colonies," "How glorious, Mother." "knows a clutch of fashionable London society in beautiful silk suits and powdered wigs attended by almost equally well appointed valets! Later, perhaps," At that moment the coach lurched as it hit a particularly large pothole. This stretch of road was notoriously bad. Suddenly, the coach shuddered to an uncomfortable halt and the horses squealed. Other hooves could be heard alongside. "Stand and deliver!" "Oh dear God!" Lord Bracewell exclaimed, crossing himself. "I fear we are about to be robbed!" The masked stranger yelled at the coachman. "Throw down your weapons my bonny boy, or I'll spill your guts on the road!" Lady Emily could do nothing but remain in the coach as the mysterious stranger led Annabelle away and into the trees at the side of the road. "Sir. The tour guide evidently took this old legend extremely seriously and did not see the funny side. "As I was saying, the Major was in love with Lady Annabelle Barrington-Smythe. He's coming, Kate did not dream often, and she was even less often plagued by bad dreams. Several times she stirred, came half awake, and heard herself gasping in panic. Once, drifting up from some threatening vision, she heard her own voice crying out wordlessly in terror, and she realized she was thrashing about in the bed. Suddenly the air was oppressively heavy, hot, thick; as if it were not air at all but a bitter and poisonous gas of some kind. She tried to breathe, couldn't. There was an invisible, crushing weight on her chest. The unmistakable smell of gunpowder. Hoofbeats, many horses. Some kind of battle? A murderous barrage of lightning crashed like a volley of mortar fire, seven or eight tremendous bolts; and woke her from sleep in an instant. "Holy shit." Kate gasped as the storm made her sit upright in bed. She remembered what Chloe had said earlier, about the tour not being scary. Evidently, nature had now delivered a jump, a scare of its own. Already her memory of the nightmare had begun to dissolve; only fragments of it remained with her, and each of those disassociated images was evaporating as if it were a splinter of ice. All she could remember was that she'd been in a battle of some kind, and there had been many men - soldiers on horseback. They'd been pursuing her. Firing guns. As the nightmare receded, Kate became uncomfortably aware of how dark the bedroom was. Before going to sleep she had switched off both the bedside lamps. The curtains were all closed, and only thin blades of moonlight were visible between the gap she'd left. She had the irrational but unshakable feeling that something had followed her up from the dream, there was another presence in the room, oh God! She fumbled for the lamp switch, damn, where was it? Groped around, switched it on. Relief as golden light flooded the room, And then she saw him. Stood at the side of the bed. He was dressed in a Redcoat uniform, just calmly standing there. She gasped, but was so shocked, she couldn't utter a sound for a moment. Then her initial shock turned to anger. Was this part of the Halloween tour? Having re-enactors actually enter the guest bedrooms was completely unacceptable. "What the hell are you doing?" Kate yelled. He seemed taken aback by her reaction. "Who are you?" She demanded once she had caught her breath again. "I beg your pardon, Miss," he began. He removed his hat as he moved closer. "Major Robert Wolfe of His Majesty's 58th Regiment of Foot." "What are you doing here?" He smiled politely. "Where I come from, when a gentleman introduces himself, a lady generally responds in kind." Kate was about to respond with a sarcastic remark, but then she noticed that he was surrounded by a faint, silver glow. Her heart began to pound like crazy. Gathering all her courage, she decided to ask him directly. "Are you, dead?" The Major's face relaxed into a smile. "Oh indeed. Quite, quite dead. As I have been since the last night of October, Seventeen Sixty-five." Kate thought she might faint. "You're a," "A spirit, why yes. An earthbound and restless one, forever drawn to return to Mablethorpe every All Hallow's night. Isn't that quite a tale? The signature red coat, crossed with white belts, the brown hair tied back in a queue and neatly curled at the sides, the breeches, knee-high leather boots. A brass gorget glinted round his neck. The Major took one of her pale, slender hands. Kate was surprised to feel solid flesh, rather than some kind of gaseous form, as expected of a ghost. Was he more of a zombie? His hand was as cold as ice. Kate suddenly felt her cheeks flush, under his intense gaze. If all those old stereotypes about ghosts were true, then he could probably see right through her nightie, as well as walk through walls, "Um, why did you wake me?" He was still holding her hand. Canadian dairy farmers may be doing the same thing - milking cows - as U.S. farmers, but they're maneuvering through a completely different marketing system. Pam Jahnke finds out more about the quota system in Canada from Ben Cuthbert of Silver Maple Holsteins on Vancouver Island, BC. Cuthbert is currently facing a record drought impacting available feed, and in turn feed costs. While costs may go up, because of his quota, Cuthbert cannot increase production to offset those expenses. While Canada may be parched, Wisconsin has ample soil moisture and surprising comfortable and cool temperatures. Stu Muck says that some of the early readings this morning in the north have temps as low as 43 degrees when they wake up. It's probably one of the most important tools farms have to keep the harvest rolling, but it's also probably one of the most overlooked tools. Tires. Almost every machine you rely on has them, but chances are you haven't checked their conditions or settings for a while. Ben Jarboe brushes up on what to do preharvest with Niles Davis, the owner of Nihles farm tire out of Platteville. He stresses checking wear, and addressing tire pressures before you start putting loads on the frame.Another preharvest idea farmers should consider is inviting local emergency responders and firefighters to your operation. Ryan Ripp is a farmer and chief of the Dane Fire Department. He says farms need to remember that few responders have farm experience, and may not recognize the equipment you're using. That could be life threatening if they respond to your call but don't know how to help. Cattle are the topic of conversation today with John Heinberg, market advisor with Total Farm Marketing in West Bend. He tells Pam Jahnke that the cattle market dipped momentarily when it learned that a woman in Maryland was a victim of the New World Screw Worm. Apparently she became infected while visiting Central America. It re-energized the anxiety over that pest possibly making it into the U.S. Heinberg says the latest numbers bear out that the cattle herd in Texas is shrinking. We are back on the road this week for an exciting visit with Emily Morris, CEO and Founder, and Tom Cuthbert, CTO, of Emrgy. Our team traveled to one of Emrgy's hydropower facilities on Colorado's Front Range to see their technology up close and in action before sitting down for a hydropower focused discussion. Emily founded Emrgy in 2014 and brings 15 years of experience in emerging hard tech development. Before launching Emrgy, she managed multi-million dollar federal contracts at AMT, bringing innovative technologies from ideation to commercialization. Tom joined Emrgy in 2020 after serving in several leadership roles at GE, most recently as CTO of Energy Storage for GE Renewable Energy. He has more than 20 years of experience in technology development across the automotive, rail, and energy sectors. Emrgy delivers low-cost power generation through innovative hardware and software that integrates seamlessly into existing water infrastructure. The company enables their customers to monetize previously unrealized energy assets, without anchoring or modifying their infrastructure. We were thrilled to visit with Emily and Tom and see Emrgy's technology in action. In our conversation, we discuss the current state of hydropower, including the regulatory and environmental challenges near federally protected natural waterways and the shift from traditional to modern approaches. Emily shares the origin of Emrgy's technology and its evolution from a defense application to commercial energy. Tom details Emrgy's hydrokinetic turbines, which can be deployed in existing water infrastructure with minimal impact and high adaptability. We explore the vast water infrastructure network and market opportunity, with over two million miles of canals globally, along with recent advances in power electronics and regulations that enable deployment. We explore the environmental and operational advantages of hydropower, the predictable power output made possible by controlled water flows, and applications across rural and urban water infrastructure. We cover Emrgy's dual monetization model (power generation and water conservation), project economics, cost-reduction targets, and speed-to-market advantages. We discuss regulatory pathways, including engagement with the Bureau of Reclamation and local water districts, incentives from the OBBB and other federal programs, and the market opportunity within aging water infrastructure. We also examine the speed of deployment and preference for incremental rollouts, interest from hyperscalers driven by power and water needs, permitting challenges near federally protected waterways, the benefits of co-locating with water infrastructure, and the advantages of innovating as a small company versus large incumbents. We end by taking a look at Emrgy's technology and discussing the rising value of water, hydropower's potential to generate hundreds of megawatts of renewable baseload power, the growing importance of decentralized energy systems near load centers, the long-term outlook, and more. We greatly enjoyed the discussion. Mike Bradley kicked things off by noting that bond markets are trading sideways this week after a tumultuous week last week, which saw a Nonfarm Payrolls report print well below expectations and sent bond yields plummeting (10-year yield trading today at 4.2%). On the broader U.S. equity market front, the S&P 500 seems to be meandering so far this week after last week's Nonfarm Payrolls report pushed it down a couple of percent. While most of the Mag 7 Big Tech companies have reported Q2 results, plenty of S&P 500 companies still have earnings to release. Turning to energy equities, most Oil Service Companies have reported Q2 results, and 2H25 guidance has been adjusted lower, mostly due to rising service cost deflation. Clicking a button to book vacation tours might feel normal today, but Rod Cuthbert helped create that future through his company, Viator. Founded in the early days of the internet boom, Viator emerged almost by accident from a failed partnership with another company. As online booking grew, Rod correctly predicted that travel agents would become outmoded, and began working with local providers to help travelers book anything from skip-the-line tours of the Sistine Chapel to cooking lessons in a Thai kitchen.
