Alright, history buffs and music fanatics, let's fire up the DeLorean and punch in "Summer of '85." The year is 2025, and we're looking back exactly 40 years to a time when mid-July meant blazing sun, sandy toes, and car stereos absolutely blaring. And what was on those stereos, you ask? A trio of albums that were practically stapled to every boombox and walkman: Kix's Midnight Dynamite, Rush's Power Windows, and Saxon's Innocence is No Excuse. Now, four decades later, a burning question arises: were these albums genuinely good, timeless masterpieces that deserve their place in the rock 'n' roll hall of fame? Or, were we perhaps just a little too "hydrated" on those '85 beach days to truly discern musical genius from… well, good vibes? We're not here to judge (much), but one thing's for sure: they definitely laid down the soundtrack for a whole lot of summer shenanigans. So, queue up your preferred streaming service, dust off those old cassettes, and decide for yourself. Were these the real deal, or just a symptom of peak '80s nostalgia? We also reviewed the big Back To The Beginning concert and all the talent paying tribute to Black Sabbath...or was it Ozzy. Please leave a review and subscribe on your podcast platform. On today's Trail Lunchbox, Tommy welcomed two beloved Missoulians deeply connected to the International Choral Festival: Saxon Holbrook, president of the festival and longtime choral singer, and Jürgen Knöller, brewmaster at Bayern Brewing and early festival supporter. They swap stories about the very first festival in 1987, flipping burgers for Carson, seeing Frank Zappa in Germany, and what makes Missoula's global celebration of voices so unique. Saxon walks us through what to expect at this year's festival — from the Choir Crawl to the finale at the Adams Center — while Jürgen shares how Missoula might be brewing up a cross-continental beer collaboration with a sister choral fest in Bavaria.

- I maj '79 åbenbares The New Wave of British Heavy Metal over hele Storbritanien med bands som netop Iron Maiden, Samson med den lovende sanger BruceBruce, Trespass, Mythra og Son of a Bitch. Sidstnævnte albumdebuterer i 1979 under navnet ... Saxon. - Led Zeppelins første udgivelse i tre år, “In Through The Outdoor”, bliver også bandets sidste studie album. - Over til Amerika, hvor KISS inspireres af samtidens disco på deres spidsfindige hit, "I Was Made For Lovin' You".

Bob Sundquist takes us on a captivating journey through the turbulent founding story of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod—a tale far more complex and human than most church histories acknowledge. Moving beyond simplified narratives of heroes and villains, Sundquist reveals how the first "celebrity pastor" of the LCMS, Martin Stephan, led 700 Saxon immigrants to America in 1838 only to face accusations and eventual exile across the Mississippi River. This conversation reveals how historical understanding helps us navigate present church tensions between pastoral and congregational authority.• History is fundamentally about storytelling and understanding people, not just memorizing dates• Martin Stephan was the first "celebrity pastor" of the LCMS whose leadership eventually created a crisis• The accusations against Stephan of sexual impropriety likely had no concrete evidence but were used to remove him• C.F.W. Walther developed Lutheran understanding of church authority through the trauma of Stephan's removal• Pastors should focus primarily on Word and Sacrament ministry rather than business management• The LCMS has historically had a hyper-fixation on the Office of Ministry as a result of early traumas• Walther's "Duties of an Evangelical Lutheran Synod" (1879) offers wisdom for contemporary church conflicts• The Missouri Synod repeats the same resolutions without taking action, indicating unresolved tensionsSupport the showJoin the Lead Time Newsletter! Mark Maddox joins Jim for a discussion of two Gene Roddenberry TV Movie pilots from the early 1970s - "Genesis II" and "Planet Earth," starring Alex Cord, Mariette Hartley, Majel Barrett, Ted Cassidy, Percy Rodriguez, John Saxon, Diana Muldaur, and Christopher Cary. Both stories deal with a researcher (Cord, Saxon) who is trapped during a deep space hibernation experiment and found 150 years later after the Earth has suffered a nuclear war. Roddenberry hoped the pilots would become a nice follow-up to Star Trek. Find out more on this episode of MONSTER ATTACK!, The Podcast Dedicated To Old Monster Movies.

Dan Sindel is truly a “unique” and “one of a kind” artist like no other out there in music land. Dan's songwriting features a multi-layered approach to recording guitars and vocals that integrates myriads of styles and genres into a hard rocking experience streamlined for mass appeal. Unpopular Music for Popular People Vol.1 is Dan's debut (5 song) EP and features the radio friendly tracks; STEPPING STONE, RULE THE WORLD and ALL DUE REPSECT as well as two “6 minute deep cut” tracks; EDGE OF ETERNITY and SAY GOODBYE which would satisfy anyone with a love for classic rock /progressive hard rock/heavy metal with their technical rhythmic changes, orchestrated guitars and solid vocal production. The Los Angeles based singer/songwriter/guitarist takes his musical upbringing of 60's and 70's pop songs and classic rock, 80's-90's metal and all things current and mixes up slightly atypical artists (think: Alice in Chains meet The Byrds or perhaps the aggression of Metallica infused with Blue Oyster Cult, The BEATLES or ELO) to create those unique melodies and harmonies. Dan says, “To me, the best parts of a song are the hooks and melodies, whether vocal or instrumental they have to catch the listener's ear and be extraordinarily memorable.”As a survivor of the legendary 80's LA Heavy Metal scene, Dan has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the rock and metal music world (ACCEPT, SAXON, KING DIAMOND, RACER X, WENDY O. WILLIAMS, ARMORED SAINT, METAL CHURCH, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, GRIM REAPER, HED-PE, MUSHROOMHEAD and HELMET being but a few) but he'd rather not be looked at as “just a metal guy” as he refuses to be typecast and limited by musical genre.“Dan states: “It is the responsibility of a true artist to find his own voice and represent the thoughts and feelings that one has and to share it in a way that hopefully does not simply mirror someone else's work, to capture the spirit and intent of the artists vision is the essence of art itself.”Unpopular Music for Popular People Vol.1 is absolute proof that bringing influences from several different musical genres can co-exist in one finely tuned package and is available on all popular streaming platforms as well as his accompaniment videos on Youtube.APPLE MUSIC: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/dan-sindel/261257155SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/artist/12JOM4gAm4nuaXD8GXLW3xAMAZON: https://www.amazon.com/music/player/artists/B0019DMEM4/dan-sindelYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/@halipinoWWW: http://dansindel.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
Dive into a compelling discussion of The White Lotus Season 3, Episode 5 as hosts Dan and Charles unpeel layers of hypocrisy, unexpected revelations, and the fascinating ways characters (and people) perform. They explore the episode's subtle genius and its uncomfortable truths about privilege, values, and human behavior. In This Episode:The Unsung Role of the 'Boring' Ladies: Charles acknowledges feeling "bad for how bored I'm getting of the three ladies and their story". Dan, however, highlights their "really important" narrative function, explaining that White included them as a "normal level" to contrast with the "extreme" behaviors in the series. Dan shares how show creator Mike White's inspiration for their dynamic came from observing real-life vacationers gossiping, and Charles then states that this type of gossiping behavior "is not an exclusive behavior to ladies either".Full Moon Festival: A Tale of Two Reactions: The hosts contrast their perceptions of the Full Moon Festival. Charles expresses that it "looks so miserable to me" and he'd "be locked in my hotel room" if he were there. Dan, conversely, wishes his past Times Square New Year's Eve experience "was that much fun" as the festival appeared. Dan then recounts his own "nightmare" experience at Times Square as a college student, detailing issues with crowds, closed businesses, and the lack of bathrooms. Charles shares his strategic approach to crowds at Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, prioritizing restroom access, leading to a consensus on the value of VIP experiences. The Ratliff Family Dynamics: A Study in Fragility:Saxon's "Secret of Life": The discussion heavily focuses on the Ratliff family. Dan and Charles unpack Saxon's unsettling philosophy that "people are just waiting to be used". Dan offers a more charitable, albeit stretched, interpretation of Saxon's comment, linking it to Piper's quest for purpose at the meditation center. Charles calls this a "charitable interpretation" that is "over the top".Hypocrisy and Peer Pressure: Charles highlights Saxon's hypocrisy, noting his judgmental stance on MDMA despite being a perpetual Adderall user. Both hosts share personal insights into peer pressure. Dan admits to sometimes giving in to friends' pushes despite later resentment. Charles boasts of resisting social influence, even threatening to "ruin the night for everybody else" before doing something he didn't want to do.The Sibling Kiss & Family Taboos: They analyze the shocking sibling kiss between Lachlan and Saxon, noting Chloe as the instigator. Dan links this behavior to the family's awkward history with sex, describing it as "taboo" and "handled awkwardly". Charles expresses disbelief at crossing such boundaries, even under the influence of drugs.Parental Values & Modeling Behavior: Charles criticizes the parents' failure to instill strong values, emphasizing that children "model what you do, not what you tell them". Dan points out that kids often model behavior from online sources, such as YouTubers.Timothy's Descent and Gaitok's Dilemma: The hosts delve into Timothy's alarming spiral into suicidal ideation after stealing a gun. Charles critiques Gaitok's decision to delay immediate action, viewing it as a selfish choice to protect his job over a pending emergency. They discuss the inadequacy of Victoria's attempts to comfort Timothy by highlighting his privilege, agreeing that such responses miss the point when someone is distressed.Rick and Frank: Over-Sharing, Empathy, and Performance: Charles shares a compelling personal anecdote about meeting former addicts in Bible college who traded old addictions for a new one: constantly discussing their past. This week, we are trapped inside and beset by unnameable horrors in a dark corner of the Great White North. Sammy from the Gentlemen's Guide to Midnite Cinema pops in to discuss Pontypool (2008), directed by Bruce McDonald, followed by the notorious SOV act of lunacy, Things (1989), directed (if that's what you can call it?) by Andrew Jordan. As well as pondering the profound cultural influence of language as a thing in and of itself, we also tackle some other philosophical questions such as: The possibly Saxon origins of the word, "fart". Kettle or urn, which is better? And just what the hell does "no cap" mean? It's not really possible to spoil Things (because it's not really possible to understand the plot, assuming there is one), but we will call out Spoiler Territory for Pontypool. If you want to skip ahead from that point, you can rejoin the conversation at the 1:33:23 mark to avoid spoilers. Want to get in touch? In this insightful episode of Parallax, Dr Ankur Kalra is joined by Dr Leslie Saxon, a professor of medicine at Keck School of Medicine USC and executive director for the USC Center for Body Computing. Together, they explore the potential network data have in transforming healthcare delivery and patient survival. Beginning with the origin and aim of the USC Center for Body Computing, the episode dives into the benefits of a network of connected implantable devices to engage patients in their own care. Dr Saxon also shares her vision of overseeing "life care” as well as "sick care" by collecting data on the mind and body, providing insights into her work with professional athletes and the military to understand how the body functions as a system. The discussion later turns to the evolution of computing devices and how we are moving past the concept of "wearables" with AI-centric devices designed specifically for continuous health monitoring.
