As a segway from ‘Do Black Lives Matter??', we're so grateful to have a guest who sits at the forefront of receiving racism because she wears her cultural tatoo, otherwise known to Māori as a Moko Kauae (a female facial tattoo), on her chin. Kausalya Martin-Moore is of four different cultural heritages as a Māori, Fijian and Samoan mixed with a little European. As a strong and pround Māori women, Kausalya (Shalia for short), like many other Māori Women have often been at the forefront of racism because she wears an ancient cultural pracitce and tradition on her chin. My Culture, My Heritage, My Moko Kauae is about Shalia's journey of wearing a Moko Kauae and the perception of society with it - and I'm so blessed to have her in the studio talking to us about what it means for her to represent her culture, loud and proud! Do Black Lives Matter? Damn right they do! Every life matters… In this episode you learn a little more about me and my Maori culture all the way down here in Aotearoa, New Zealand and take a look at racism for Maori and other indigenous cultures around the globe. Racism is not a rash nor a condition but purely a choice, and it must stop. Because of the colour of our skin, its not acceptable to believe that others who are not white skinned are worthy of any other treatment than being segregated or left aside. We can all break this habit of racism by learning, understanding and educating ourselves out of naivety and arrogance. It takes a conversation and to learn about the content of ones character, and not the colour of their skin.
