Episode 262: Why New Mexico Has No GOP U.S. Senate Candidate And What It Reveals About Donors, Turnout, And Party Shifts

No Doubt About It

A statewide shocker kicks off the show: New Mexico won't have a Republican candidate on the U.S. Senate ballot. We break down how missed signatures, donor fatigue, and midterm turnout math created a no-go zone for would-be challengers—and why that doesn't mean the GOP is finished in the state. From there we head to the Roundhouse, where the Clear Horizons bill—marketed as climate progress—collapsed after seven Democrats joined Republicans to vote it down. We pull back the curtain on committee routing, fiscal alarms, and why ratepayers likely dodged a spike in energy costs. The conversation widens to schools and power brokers. Big promises about reading coaches, outdoor classes, and on-campus doctors sound inspiring, but we ask where the measurable literacy gains will come from and how entrenched union leadership continues to stall reforms that worked elsewhere. Then we turn to voter integrity, as the SAVE Act ignites cable-news fireworks. With broad public support for ID at the polls, we cut through the noise on access, verification, and the difference between real obstacles and rhetorical ones.Zooming out, we explore the leftward shift inside the Democratic Party that's shrinking the space for moderates, especially among younger voters who increasingly identify as democratic socialists. Pair that trend with new polling showing more voters view Democrats as “too liberal,” and you get a volatile primary-versus-general dynamic. Meanwhile, inflation cools, job growth holds, and the narrative around the economy shows signs of life—if candidates can communicate it.We also take a hard look at America's marijuana problem: daily use now exceeds alcohol, potency has spiked, and evidence ties heavy cannabis consumption to psychosis and rising schizophrenia risk in young men. New Mexico's light-touch legalization left gaps in regulation and healthcare capacity, and walking it back won't be easy. Finally, foreign policy clarity matters: A muddled answer on Taiwan contrasts with Marco Rubio's muscular Munich speech on deterrence, energy realism, and allied resolve. Plus, a quick game-cam check from 11,000 feet—lean snow, handsome bucks, and a plan to move the cameras. If this episode challenged your thinking or gave you a clearer read on New Mexico's politics, tap follow, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show.Website: https://www.nodoubtaboutitpodcast.com/Twitter: @nodoubtpodcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NoDoubtAboutItPod/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markronchettinm/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D

Keen On Democracy
What is Love? Paul Eastwick on the New Science of Attraction

Keen On Democracy

"She's a ten to me and that's the part that matters." — Paul EastwickIf it's Valentine's Day, we must be talking about love. Paul Eastwick studies attraction and relationships at UC Davis, and his new book Bonded by Evolution takes aim at the "old science" that treated romance like a competitive market where everyone gets assigned a number. The incels, of course, ran with that research to compound their paranoia about the other sex. Eastwick says they got it wrong—and so, with the exception of Paul Eastwick, did most academics. When two people look at the same photograph and make a hot-or-not judgment, Eastwick explains, they only agree about 65% of the time. After they've known the person for months, agreement drops to barely better than a coin flip. So there isn't any universal hierarchy of desirability. What's real is that some people will think you're an 8 and others will think you're a 3—and that quirky disagreement explains most of what happens in the science of attraction. The problem is that dating apps make everything feel like they're in a market, thereby filtering out the "slow burn" people who need time to grow on you. Eastwick's advice, therefore, is forget swiping, reboot your social networks, throw candle lit dinner parties where nobody knows each other. It's more democratic, it takes longer, and it actually works. Happy V day everyone.About the GuestPaul Eastwick is Professor of Psychology at UC Davis, where he studies attraction and close relationships. He is the author of Bonded by Evolution: The New Science of Love and Connection (2026) and co-host of the podcast Love Factually with Eli Finkel.ReferencesConcepts discussed:●      The mating market hypothesis treats attraction like an economic exchange where people are assigned desirability values and seek partners at their "level"—an idea Eastwick argues is far more limited than academics have assumed.●      Limerence is the academic term for the intense, obsessive early stage of romantic attraction—what we might call infatuation or passion.●      The Dunbar number (~150) represents the cognitive limit on stable social relationships—roughly the size of hunter-gatherer groups where our mating psychology evolved.●      Pair bonding emerged in human evolution about two million years ago as brain size increased and children required longer periods of intensive parental investment.●      Attachment theory describes the deep bonds that form when we trust someone to have our back, celebrate our successes, and support us through difficulty.Evolution and mating:●      Human males became smaller relative to females and lost their sharp canines as women selected for men who were safe around babies—"the evolved male is the good caregiver and good dad."●      Unlike gorillas with their harem-style mating, humans shifted toward pair bonding because helpless infants with expanding brains needed investment from both parents.●      Polyamory research shows that people can form genuine attachment bonds with multiple partners—trust, wellbeing, and attachment levels match or exceed monogamous couples. Also mentioned:●      Eli Finkel is Eastwick's co-host on the Love Factually podcast and author of The All-or-Nothing Marriage.●      When Harry Met Sally (1989) depicts "one of the most beautiful friendships on screen," according to Eastwick, and holds up well on the friends-to-lovers pathway.●      Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet (1996) was the subject of a recent Love Factually episode—"that MTV style of filmmaking" with Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio.●      The incel and manosphere communities have taken 1990s attraction research and "run with it in some strange and unjustified ways."About Keen On AmericaNobody asks more awkward questions than the Anglo-American writer and filmmaker Andrew Keen. Welcome to Ozempic Weightloss Unlocked, where we dive into the latest news and updates on Ozempic, from its medical uses to its effects on lifestyle and health.Ozempic, containing semaglutide, mimics a natural hormone called GLP-1 to release insulin, steady blood sugar, slow digestion, and curb appetite, helping listeners feel full longer. GoodRx reports that studies show people on Ozempic lose six to seven percent of body weight, while Wegovy users average fifteen percent.Recent Cochrane reviews commissioned by the World Health Organization, released February eleventh, twenty twenty-six, confirm GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic deliver meaningful weight loss. Semaglutide leads to about eleven percent reduction after six to seventeen months, with benefits lasting up to two years if continued. Tirzepatide in Mounjaro and Zepbound shows even higher losses around sixteen percent, though more research is needed. Liraglutide offers four to five percent loss.Real-world evidence from Applied Clinical Trials highlights heterogeneous results, typically four to twelve percent loss at six to twelve months. For a twelve percent drop, the drug accounts for sixty-three percent, with context like persistence, lifestyle, and care making up thirty-seven percent. Improving persistence could boost outcomes further. Many hit an Ozempic plateau after twelve months, per GoodRx. Factors include dose, timing, diet, exercise, stress, and other meds like sulfonylureas or antidepressants. Pair it with avoiding fried foods, high-fat items, sugary drinks, and ultra-processed foods for best results.Rutgers Health research in the Journal of Medical Internet Research finds sixty-seven percent of users report weight loss or less appetite despite side effects like nausea, prioritizing effectiveness to keep going. However, stopping leads to regain, though half maintain some loss after a year.Watch for Ozempic face, gauntness from facial fat loss, as noted in a PMC study, so discuss screening and diet with doctors. These updates show Ozempic transforms lives when combined with healthy habits, but long-term independent data is key.Thank you listeners for tuning in. Lindsey Vonn's answer is not cute or motivational-poster fluff. It's the gritty reality of setbacks stacking up, the isolation of being alone with your thoughts, and the quiet fight to keep believing in yourself when the “crash, failure” moments start to feel like your identity. She talks about depression, the loneliness of life on the road, and why she started journaling daily back in 2005 so she'd have proof of who she was when things were actually going well. The biggest takeaway is deceptively practical: build a “reference point” for your best self before you need it. Lindsey wrote down what worked, what felt good, what didn't, and then read it later to regain confidence and visualize her way back. Pair that with her question for hard seasons, “Why am I doing this?”, and you've got a reset button that works for careers, relationships, and any dream that takes a few punches before it pays off.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. ESPN draft analyst Field Yates believes the Commanders should target Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate with the No. 7 overall pick in April's NFL Draft. The argument? Pair another dynamic playmaker with Jayden Daniels, continue building the offense, and surround your franchise quarterback with as much talent as possible. Doc Walker and Anthony understand the logic — explosive offenses win in today's NFL, and adding another weapon opposite Terry McLaurin is enticing. But ultimately, they disagree.

Send a textGrowth stalls when great clients arrive and caregiver applications vanish. We tackle that crunch head-on with a practical, fast-moving playbook to recruit exceptional caregivers in a competitive market—and to keep them after day one. We start by naming the seasonal dip few talk about: tax refunds and school breaks reduce both applications and availability every spring. The fix is to prepare early and compress the entire hiring cycle, so motivated candidates choose your agency within days, not weeks. We walk through a two-day job fair strategy designed less for foot traffic and more for urgency. Promoting on job boards, social, and text lists with “interviews on site” sparks immediate requests to interview now. Pair that momentum with a text-first workflow: a short form screens deal breakers, candidates self-book interviews 24/7, and you run a thorough phone interview without forcing duplicate applications. If they're a fit, invite them to a single in-person orientation where you complete paperwork, run a quick drug screen and background check, teach core skills, and—crucially—hand them initial hours before they leave the building. You'll also get the interview frameworks and ad tactics that separate you from the crowd. We break down open-ended, behavioral, and situational questions that reveal values, reliability, and judgment. Then we show how to write caregiver ads that convert by leading with benefits, not rules: flexible schedules, earned wage access, holiday differentials, paid training, and real 24/7 support. Use our headline formula and include pay ranges to increase clicks, then refresh weekly to stay visible. Finally, plan your funnel with clear math: to hire five, target forty applicants, twenty interviews, and ten orientations.Retention ties it all together. The first 90 days make or break loyalty, so commit to weekly, human check-ins that ask about their experience and solve problems fast. Add meaningful recognition, a simple caregiver newsletter, and mentor support to build community that lasts. What if success isn't about the money, but about the engine driving you to chase it? We open up about the uncomfortable truth of trauma-fueled ambition, why “validation loops” push many entrepreneurs to grind past reason, and how to define a version of success that doesn't steal your peace. From there, we shift into a practical, modern playbook for home inspectors and small service businesses who want reliable growth without gimmicks.First, brand like it matters—because it does. We break down what a tight visual identity and clear language can do in a crowded market, then map out the digital foundation: fast site, strong local SEO, helpful FAQs, and AEO content that search and AI can understand. Next, we make the case for Reddit as a stealth powerhouse. Show up daily to help in local and real estate threads, sprinkle in your expertise without spamming, and watch authority compound. Pair it with office visits, teaching-focused brochures, and vehicle branding for real-world visibility. The goal is ubiquity: prospects should feel like they've seen you everywhere they look.We also share a sleeper growth lever that beats cold calls—teaching continuing education for agents. Burnout in youth gymnastics isn't a kid problem—it's an adult problem. We unpack new survey data showing that the biggest stressors in gyms are gossip, unclear roles, weak leadership, and pay that doesn't match the real work. From our own journey transforming a miserable program into a place coaches and families love, we break down the practical steps any gym can take to reduce drama and raise performance. We start with money and scope, because compensation without clarity fails both sides. You'll hear how to map roles to market rates, budget real admin hours for lesson planning and meets, and apply the “bricklayer vs architect” lens to align pay with responsibility. We share negotiation scripts coaches can use to present objective hours and outcomes, plus the owner's view on sustainable salary bands and growth paths.Training is the next pillar. Coaches burn out when they can spot skills but can't confidently teach progressions, strength prep, or safe progress checks. We outline a simple education engine: monthly paid clinics, peer-led demos on beam, bars, and floor, and annual trips to Congress or targeted workshops. Add guest experts in strength, nutrition, and mental skills to round out the staff toolbox and turn knowledge into retention and results. Finally, we zoom in on systems that end back-channel chaos. Build three handbooks—staff, culture, and parents—to set expectations for behavior, communication, safety, and meet etiquette. Replace guesswork with objective move-up standards: attendance thresholds, strength numbers, and event-specific skill checklists using a stoplight tracker. Pair that with real accountability—documented warnings, suspensions, and, if needed, parting ways—so your values mean something on the floor and at meets. If your gym feels loud and unclear, this conversation is your reset button. Tips on Healthy Eating: How to Choose the Best Foods for Your Plate with Gerianne Cygan

Strength Changes Everything

What should actually be on your plate if you want to feel better, get healthier, and see real results from your workouts? Amy Hudson sits down with Gerianne Cygan to break down a simple, practical approach to eating that supports how your body moves, recovers, and ages. Drawing from the Exercise Coach Nutrition Playbook, they unpack how everyday food choices impact three major health trouble spots: blood sugar regulation, inflammation in the body, and digestive health. They walk through the core categories of foods that should make up your plate, explain why each one plays a critical role in metabolic health, and show how the right choices can amplify your exercise results, improve energy, and support long-term strength and independence. Gerianne shares why protein is the most important food group. Protein isn't just for building muscle; it's essential for repair, hormone production, and immune function. Without enough protein, the body simply can't perform at a high level long term. Gerianne explains how muscle directly impacts your quality of life. Muscle is a key driver of metabolic health, balance, and strength as we age. It's also one of the biggest factors in whether you remain independent later in life. Why muscle loss accelerates as we get older. As we age, our muscles become less responsive to protein intake. That means older adults actually need more protein, not less, to maintain strength and resilience. Gerianne reveals why animal protein is considered the gold standard. Animal sources contain all nine essential amino acids in the correct proportions. This complete profile is critical for muscle repair, hormone production, and immune health. Gerianne explains why plant protein is not the same as animal protein. You need significantly more calories from plant sources to match the protein in animal foods. That makes it much easier to overeat while still falling short on protein. Amy covers a common mistake many people make when choosing plant protein. The volume required to hit protein targets is often underestimated. This is especially important for anyone working with a personal trainer to improve body composition. Learn why quality food and supplements act like daily medicine for the body. Cutting corners here often shows up later as health problems. Gerianne reveals why vegetables deserve a permanent place on your plate. They provide micronutrients your body can't produce on its own. Vegetables also support gut health, hormone balance, and inflammation control. Amy covers the smartest way to prepare vegetables for maximum benefit. Light steaming or sautéing preserves nutrients better than aggressive cooking. Mixing raw and cooked vegetables creates variety and better overall nutrition. Gerianne reveals how to eat fruit without wrecking your blood sugar. Whole fruit, paired with protein or fat, helps slow sugar absorption. This is especially important for people managing diabetes or fat loss. Gerianne shares simple rules for eating fruit without spikes. Choose whole fruit instead of juice and watch portion size. Pair fruit with protein or fat to slow sugar absorption. Gerianne talks about healthy fats and why they're essential. Fats provide long-lasting energy and support brain, heart, and hormone health. Omega-3s in particular play a major role in mood, memory, and inflammation control. The fear many people still have about fat. Growing up in the low-fat era taught many that eating fat makes you fat. In reality, the right fats help regulate hormones and support metabolic health. Gerianne shares how qualified personal trainers approach long-term nutrition. A good coach focuses on food that supports strength, recovery, and independence, not quick fixes. Nutrition choices today determine how well your body performs years from now. Which is the best drink to take for long-lasting health? According to Gerianne, water is always the right answer, whether you're on a 30-day challenge or not. Proper hydration supports digestion, energy, and overall performance.     Mentioned in This Episode: The Exercise Coach - Get 2 Free Sessions! Pair that with everyday love habits—short notes, unhurried dinners, tiny traditions—and you stop needing a holiday to feel cherished. Our biggest shift is one we've delayed for too long: making our faith explicit. Taking the Elevator has always meant looking up, elevating, praying, and moving with hope. We share why this perspective will now shape our mic time as much as it shapes our off-mic life. Along the way, we celebrate momentum for The Fuzzy Furry Forest—new events, school interest, and a parade appearance—because stories for kids are one of the surest ways we know to lift a community. If you're here for relationship wisdom, culture talk, or a little soul in your feed, you'll feel at home. Your Note Investing Super Bowl: Build a Dream Team to Dominate 2026!Alright, everybody! Scott Carson here, ready to tackle a crucial topic that's been lighting up my phone: building your ultimate note investing dream team. With the Super Bowl on the horizon, it's the perfect analogy – you wouldn't put a quarterback at nose tackle, right? The same goes for real estate. You can't be a solo-preneur, trying to do it all yourself, especially when you're buying notes in 20+ states like me!Many new investors (like Vincent from Harrisburg, PA – this one's for you, buddy!) think they need to master every single task. But here's the kicker: delegating isn't just smart; it's essential. I've been coaching for almost two decades, and the most successful investors aren't just good at one thing; they're great at assembling a team. So, let's draft your winning lineup for 2026!Here's how to build your note investing dream team:The Scouting Report: REIAs & Networking: Your first stop? Local Real Estate Investor Associations (REIAs) and BNI groups. These are your recruiting grounds for investor-friendly realtors, title companies, and other pros. Don't be a wallflower; get there, ask around, and find the right people who want to work with investors. The Playmakers: Realtors & Title/Attorneys: You need reliable realtors for BPOs and market insights (especially out-of-state!). Pair them with investor-friendly title companies or real estate attorneys for seamless closings and secure money transfers. They're critical for evaluating and closing your deals. The Coaches: Licensed Servicers & Foreclosure Attorneys: For note investors, a licensed servicer is non-negotiable – they collect payments, handle communication, and manage legalities, saving you headaches (and potential fines!). A real estate attorney in every state you're active in is your offensive coordinator for foreclosures and workouts. The Finance Department: Hard Money & Private Capital: Even if you're the bank, you need a bank! Build relationships with hard money lenders for REO rehabs and, crucially, cultivate private money investors (IRAs, OPM). Your network of other investors can also be a goldmine for capital. The Ground Crew: Contractors & Property Management: When you take back an REO, you need reliable contractors (roofers, HVAC, handyman crews) to get it market-ready. For rentals, a trusted property manager (preferably local) is essential. These are your boots-on-the-ground, turning a problem asset into a profitable solution. You're not Tom Brady, trying to throw the ball to himself and run the field without blockers. You need a team that takes things off your plate, provides expertise, and moves your deals forward. My success, and my students', comes from building these relationships.Don't let the thought of doing it all yourself cripple your ambition. Leverage your network, find your dream team, and watch your note investing portfolio soar. A single clip can reveal the whole playbook. When a powerful senator calls military aid to Israel his “baby,” it says everything about priorities, leverage, and who pays the price. We pull the thread from that moment into the reality on the ground in Gaza, where a supposed ceasefire overlaps with daily killings and a systematic assault on healthcare. Detained physicians describe torture and maiming that read less like isolated abuses and more like a strategy to make Gaza unlivable. Pair that with efforts to block international medical work and you get collapse by design, not accident. We also tackle the battlefield of narratives. For years, Gaza's death tolls were dismissed as propaganda. Now, with the IDF effectively acknowledging those figures, the numbers stand—and so does the moral weight behind them. Meanwhile, legacy outlets still reach for soft phrasing, telling readers a ceasefire is being “tested” while children are buried. That language isn't neutral; it shapes consent. The question is whether accuracy can survive the pressure to keep audiences comfortable. Then we turn to Iran, where swagger and strategy collide. We dissect claims about a near-term nuclear bomb, point to inspections and intelligence, and examine how a cheap Iranian surveillance drone downed by an F-35 exposes a losing economic logic for endless escalation. With carriers near the Strait of Hormuz and merchant vessels as potential triggers, miscalculation could do what no speech intends: start a war. Add in maximalist U.S. demands—from missile limits to severing regional ties to dismantling civilian enrichment—and it's clear why talks stall. These aren't guardrails; they're tripwires. We close by pushing back on a convenient myth that Americans don't care about the Epstein files. Crimes against children cut across ideology, and accountability still matters. We're lining up a guest to go deeper and separate signal from noise as more documents surface. If you value frank analysis over spin—on Gaza, Iran, media narratives, and elite impunity—this conversation is for you. If this resonated, subscribe, share with a friend who cares about foreign policy and accountability, and leave a review so more people can find the show. Your support keeps independent voices in the fight.

We break down what the numbers really say: why call volume climbed as staffing improved, how proactive patrols nudged crashes down and warrants up, and the single most encouraging stat of the year—a sharp drop in domestic violence calls compared to the recent average. Not everything trended well, though. We dig into the rise in resisting and preventing arrest, the risks in those split-second moments, and why our mantra is comply now, contest later. We also open the hood on how we're getting better at the unglamorous work that wins cases. Report writing became a 2026 priority, with Draft One—Axon's closed system that drafts from body-cam transcripts—helping officers save time while improving accuracy. Pair that with direct feedback from prosecutors and we're already seeing cleaner narratives and fewer avoidable delays. Wellness got teeth this year, too. We set three sturdy legs—mental health check-ins, tighter cardiac screenings, and a department-backed financial literacy course with Ramsey Solution's "Financial Peace University"—so officers can make better decisions and build stronger lives at home. Then there's the story everyone's been asking about: Officer Dane and K9 Frida. From jail corrections to rookie cop to field training officer, Dane leaned into discomfort until growth became a habit. His leap to K9 handler brought a Slovakian Malinois with endless drive and zero English into a 14-week training gauntlet. Together they learned the real craft of detection: reading breath changes, tail cadence, and head snaps; understanding residual odor; and certifying on fentanyl, meth, cocaine, heroin, and ecstasy. Frida works hard on the street and sits calm with kids at community events—the rare balance we need.If you value candid insights into policing that go beyond headlines—data that surprises, systems that improve, and a handler who lets you see the messy middle—this one's for you. In the grand scheme, its a smart choice. Wonder Man as a character has a very muddled history much like DC's Hawkman. So whats the best way to present the character in a streamlined way? Have the show structured around Simon Williams trying to make it in Hollywood while he's also trying to figure himself out. Pair him up with Trevor Slattery and you got a solid show that does a really good job of being self contained yet lowkey progressing certain aspects of the MCU. Definitely a must watch.

Today's show starts with the Grammys — or as we now call them, the annual reminder that none of us know who the new artists are anymore. We break down bizarre performances, why music might be officially “complete,” and how farming equipment somehow became more exciting than pop music. Then it's Super Bowl season, baby. The gang debates whether anyone actually cares who wins, dives deep into prop bets that absolutely should not exist, and asks the important questions — like whether Bad Bunny is legally obligated to expose a nipple during halftime. From there, things escalate quickly into Super Bowl proposal etiquette, public embarrassment thresholds, and whether romance should ever involve buffalo chicken dip.Kevin Nealon joins the show and somehow makes everything calmer and more chaotic at the same time. He talks stand-up, art, hiking, forgotten awards, his YouTube special Loosen the Crotch, and the now-legendary story of burying his cat in his favorite jeans. Normal stuff. The episode also features a deep dive into “cigarette mom rock,” a genre you didn't know existed but absolutely lived through, plus a Wisconsin woman caught pooping on a public trail by a heat-sensing drone — which turns into a full-blown debate on gender, preparedness, and human behavior. If you're looking for a comedy podcast that feels like hanging out with your funniest friends who should not be allowed microphones — congratulations. CLICK HERE! To send us a message! Ask us a Question or just let us know what you think!A football game on TV, Howard Cosell's voice breaking the spell, and then a silence that never really ended. We start from that shared shock and pull a larger thread: how John Lennon's voice grew into something governments measured, feared, and tried to contain. We map the Beatles' improbable journey from pop to power, banned in the USSR yet copied onto “bone records” by kids who risked their futures just to hear a chord. Former Soviet leaders later admitted what censors couldn't stop: music can humanize an enemy and loosen the gears of a rigid system. Back in the States, Lennon's moral courage showed up in concrete ways, from refusing segregated audiences to standing with activists at the Free John Sinclair concert. That stance triggered surveillance, a deportation push, and a recognition in Washington that the youth vote—and Lennon's ability to mobilize it—could reshape elections. Then we return to the Dakota and everything that doesn't sit right. Conflicting medical recollections suggest a professional hit. Eyewitness stories diverge. Mark David Chapman lingers, reading The Catcher in the Rye, echoing a pattern that later brushes the Hinckley case and fuels MKUltra speculation. We don't claim a smoking gun; we lay out the record as it exists, with care and context. Around the edges, the world was changing fast: Reagan's incoming team, the Committee on the Present Danger, Euro-missile plans, and a new media landscape—CNN, soon MTV—ready to give Lennon a live line to millions. Pair that with signs the Beatles were edging toward shared studio time in 1981, and the stakes grow larger than one man with a pistol. What remains is the why. A voice that couldn't be bought, a platform that could fill streets, and a decade that was about to hinge on narratives of fear and force. We weigh the evidence, challenge the official story where it falters, and honor the cost of losing an artist who believed songs could be tools, not souvenirs. Listen, then tell us what you think—was it a lone gunman, or did policy and power have a heavier hand?If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a review. Why Your Sales Team is Underperforming — Patrick Lencioni on Working Genius

"You know, at the core of Working Genius, what it does is it allows us to avoid guilt and judgment—guilt about ourselves and judgment of others." That's Patrick Lencioni, bestselling author and organizational health expert, talking about his breakthrough Working Genius productivity framework on the Sales Gravy podcast. If you're leading a sales team, this explains why high performers thrive in some roles and burn out in others. Right now, you probably have high performers who are miserable, rockstars who've lost their spark, and top reps who suddenly can't hit quota. And you're wondering—did you hire wrong, did someone lose their edge, or do you need to have “the conversation”? What if the problem isn't the person at all?  The Real Reason Your Best People Are Struggling Not all work is created equal, and your sales reps aren't wired to do all of it. Lencioni stumbled on this insight while reflecting on himself. He'd show up to work loving his job and the people he worked with, yet swing from energized to frustrated without understanding why.  His colleague asked, “Why are you like that?” Over a few hours, Lencioni and his team pinpointed six distinct types of work. Depending on which type you're doing, you're either energized or drained. Five years later, over 1.5 million people have taken the Working Genius assessment. Why? Most organizations force talented people into work that drains them, then blame them when they struggle. Most sales leaders hire a closer for their ability to seal deals, then wonder why they can't prospect. They promote a quota-crusher into management, then watch them implode under administrative responsibilities. Or move an account manager into new business development and act shocked when performance tanks. The talent was there all along, but their positioning was wrong. Six Types of Work—and Why Most People Only Excel at Two Patrick Lencioni identified six distinct types of work that exist in every organization: Wonder (W): Spotting opportunities, asking big-picture questions Invention (I): Creating new solutions, processes, or systems Discernment (D): Evaluating ideas, figuring out what will work Galvanizing (G): Rallying the team, getting people moving Enablement (E): Supporting others, clearing obstacles, making things happen Tenacity (T): Following through, finishing tasks, closing deals Here's what matters: most people are strong in two, competent in two, and are drained by the remaining two. And there are no good or bad geniuses. Your closer with natural Tenacity isn't more valuable than your strategic thinker with Wonder and Discernment. Your rep who rallies the team (Galvanizing) isn't better than the one who quietly enables everyone behind the scenes. Different geniuses are valuable in different ways. The goal is to build a team where all six are represented, and people work in their areas of strength. Force someone into work that drains them, and sales team performance tanks. Leave them in their genius zones, and energy and results skyrocket. Stop Judging Your People (And Yourself) You've probably got a rep right now who frustrates you. Maybe they're brilliant in client meetings but terrible at following up. Maybe they generate incredible account strategies, but can't stand the daily grind of outbound prospecting. Maybe they close deals but never update the CRM. Your first instinct is to judge them. "They're not coachable." "They don't care about the details." "They're lazy." Working Genius removes that judgment. It shows you that their struggle isn't about character—it's about wiring. A rep isn't bad at follow-up because they don't care. They're bad at it because Tenacity isn't their genius. A rep isn't a bad team player because they don't remove obstacles for others. Enablement isn't their strength. And here's the part most sales leaders miss: you need to stop judging yourself, too. You feel guilty that you hate certain parts of your job. You think you should be better at forecasting, or administrative work, or whatever drains you. But guilt about your own limitations makes you harder on your team. When you accept that you're not built to excel at everything, you can extend that same grace to others. You stop punishing people for being human and start positioning them for success. Start With Self-Reflection Which activities give you energy? Which leave you drained? I'll be honest about my own wake-up call. I travel over 300 nights a year, giving keynotes and working with clients. Last summer, I got to the point where I thought I was going to have a mental breakdown. Days stacked with short calls, client check-ins, alignment meetings, and podcasts. I was furious when I got to the office, and furious when I left because those days completely destroy my brain. I'm a wonderer and a thinker. I need space to ideate. Without that time, I can't function. So I implemented a new rule: no more than two meetings per day. I understood my working genius and restructured my time. Once you see your own patterns, look at your team. Track what lights people up and what slows them down. Patterns emerge quickly. How to Apply Working Genius to Your Sales Team We had a team member at Sales Gravy who was noticeably unhappy. Not complaining out loud, just clearly not thriving. When we looked at what the job required versus their working genius profile, the answer was obvious. We had them doing work completely opposite of their natural abilities. Once we restructured their role to align with their strengths, everything changed. Here's how you can apply it: Pair complementary geniuses. Big-picture thinkers need execution-focused partners. Strategic planners need implementers. Someone strong in Wonder and Invention but weak in Tenacity needs to work with someone who loves finishing and closing. Restructure roles around natural strengths. Don't force people into weaknesses. Reassign or support tasks that drain them.  Be intentional with promotions. Top performers don't automatically make good managers. Your best individual contributor may hate administrative work. Your best manager may dislike strategic planning. Know what fits before making moves. Have your team take the assessment. Get everyone's working genius profile. Put it at their workstation. Use it in real-time during team meetings when you're trying to figure out why something isn't working. We do this at Sales Gravy, and it's transformed how we work together.  The Bottom Line Your sales team isn't broken, but your understanding of how they work might be. When you force talented people into roles that clash with their natural strengths, you get frustration, underperformance, and attrition. Then you blame the person and start hiring again.  Everyone has areas of frustration. Everyone faces work they aren't naturally good at. Working Genius doesn't let people avoid the draining tasks—but it helps you understand why some work feels impossible, build teams that complement each other, and stop punishing your people for being human. Stop judging that rep who struggles with CRM updates. Stop feeling guilty that you hate certain parts of your job. Start positioning people where their natural abilities can shine. Over 1.5 million people have discovered their working genius. Most of them wish they'd found it sooner. Visit workinggenius.com and take the assessment. Use coupon code GRAVY for 20% off.

Without that time, I can’t function. Top performers don’t automatically make good managers. Your best individual contributor may hate administrative work. Your best manager may dislike strategic planning. Know what fits before making moves. Have your team take the assessment. Get everyone’s working genius profile. Put it at their workstation. Use it in real-time during team meetings when you’re trying to figure out why something isn’t working. We do this at Sales Gravy, and it’s transformed how we work together. Most of them wish they’d found it sooner. Visit workinggenius.com and take the assessment. Use coupon code GRAVY for 20% off.

Firearm Trainer's Podcast For American Firearm Instructors

In this week’s episode we talk with Beth Alcazar from the USCCA about Adult Learning For listeners of this podcast I want to give you an advance heads up on a new product from MantisX called the Tor-X available the first week of August 2024. The TOR-X is the sublime marriage of the military-grade Steiner laser and the power of the MantisX. The MantisX hardware is now integrated inside a Steiner laser. Pair it via Bluetooth to your smartphone or tablet, and you’re training package just got more complete. Combat-worthy lights and lasers, Mil-grade aluminum, built Steiner strong. Designed to expose, blind and target with maximum impact. Up to any challenge. Just like you. The TOR-X features a Type III hard-anodized machined-aluminum housing and rail mount. It is dustproof, splash-proof to IP54 standards, and available with a green (520 nm) laser. The direct diode type laser operates in extreme cold weather. Other features include left and right fire buttons for ambidextrous use, constant power drive that ensures the laser output remains constant throughout the life of the battery, low battery indication, as well as windage and elevation bore sight adjustment screws. The universal rail mount on the TOR-X will fit all pistols that have a Picatinny or Weaver style rail forward of the trigger guard. This design allows optimum positioning of the laser so that the fire buttons are easily accessible for a wide range of users. I’ve been using the Tor-X for several weeks on my Glock17 and my Glock48 now and when paired with the MantisX app it’s taken my training to a new level. What is your one unknown talent? Organized On Purpose | Decluttering, Home Organization, Prioritization, Routines, Biblical Encouragement

In this short devotional-style episode, I reflect on how good, meaningful responsibilities can quietly compete for our attention — and how God gently calls us back when our priorities drift. Drawing from Exodus 20:3, this episode explores what it means to put God first in full seasons of life: post-holiday busyness, work and ministry commitments, family rhythms, early-year goals, and the subtle habits that pull us away from presence and rest. Through a personal story and Scripture-centered reflection, I am inviting you to pause, examine what has taken first place, and consider how obedience, wisdom, and faith shape everyday choices — even the small ones. This episode is part of a growing series of shorter devotional reflections designed to create space for Scripture, prayer, and real-life application in the middle of ordinary days. Praying this meets you where you need.

The next Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, Richard Moth, will be installed in his cathedral on February 14. Bishop Moth, formerly of Arundel and Brighton, is seen as a ‘safe pair of hands'. Fr Alexander Lucie-Smith, a moral theologian and priest of Arundel and Brighton – and friend of Holy Smoke, joins Damian Thompson for a frank and wide-ranging discussion about the problems facing the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Produced by Patrick Gibbons.Become a Spectator subscriber today to access this podcast without adverts. “All Life is Yoga”: Chen Or Bach on Joy and Healing

Episode summary Computer-science-turned-cognitive-science researcher and yoga therapist Chen Or Bach joins Amy to share a candid journey from academia to cancer survivorship, from mat-based practice to living yoga moment-to-moment. We trace how the pañca-kośa model reframed her healing, why standards and accreditation helped yoga integrate into Israeli healthcare, and what it means to let go of familiar tools and still remain fully in the path. It's a forward-looking conversation about bringing steadiness (sthira) and sweetness (sukha) into real life—mountain trails, laundry folding, and all.Listen forNature as practice: Boulder's mountains as living teachers of stability in change.Pañca-kośa in plain life: tending annamaya, prāṇamaya, manomaya, vijñānamaya, and especially ānandamaya—not as theory but daily design.When the practice stops “working”: giving yourself permission to let go of certain tools (āsana, set routines) and allow yoga to become how you meet each moment.Healthcare integration: how Israel's modular 1,000-hour training (500 teacher + 500 therapy with specialty tracks) supported hospital uptake.Karma yoga without burnout: serving the field while protecting one's vitality (tapas with svādhyāya and īśvara-praṇidhāna—Kriyā Yoga in action).Key takeawaysĀnanda is not optional. Many of us optimize the outer layers (food, steps) and starve ānandamaya kośa. Intentionally design joy-creating activities; the outer layers flourish downstream.Your practice can change shape. If a tool stops serving, it's not failure—it's viveka (discernment). Let the aim (clarity, compassion, steadiness) stay constant while methods evolve.Standards serve people. Thoughtful accreditation isn't bureaucracy—it's ahimsā and satya for clients and health systems: clear scope, reliable skills, safer care.Karma yoga needs boundaries. Service without self-regulation fuels burnout. Pair tapas with rest, supervision, and community—abhyāsa with vairāgya.Practical micro-practices (try today)Joy audit (5 min): List three ordinary tasks. For each, name one sensory element you can savor (temperature of water while washing dishes, sound of leaves on a walk).Kośa check-in (2 min): Ask: What does my body/energy/mind/wisdom/joy need right now? Choose one small step.Walk as yoga (10–20 min): No metrics. Attend to breath cadence, ground contact, and horizon/sky—let attention, breath, and body cohere.Resources mentionedPātañjala Yoga Sūtra (as study companion during illness)Bhagavadgītā (as a source of resilience and meaning)IAYT-inspired standards and Israel's modular specialty pathways (trauma, oncology, etc.)About our guest — Chen Or Bach Chen Or Bach blends cognitive/neuroscience training with decades of yoga practice and service. He was setting the stage to remove NAFTA but he was not able to because congress put roadblocks into the legislation, so he transitioned it into the USMCA and now he has trapped Canada in it. Trade deals are power of the US, the US has the leverage and the [CB] knows it.  The [DS] along with Biden, Obama and Clinton are pushing the insurgency in this country. Walz believes he has the upper hand making a deal with Trump but this is going to backfire on him and Frey. The people in MN are already upset. The D’s believe they can shutdown the government and use the DHS funding to do it. But the OBBB is funding ICE so this is going to fail. Trump has the leverage and he weakening the [DS] every step of the way. The root cause is being exposed to the country.   Economy Big Picture: President Trump and Trade Using the Art of the Self-Fulfilling Prophecy Canada and the EU take trade and economic positions seemingly against U.S. interests. Simultaneously Mexico modifies all their trade positions to come into alignment with the USA. Yesterday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Mexico will no longer ship oil to Cuba.   When President Trump was asked about Prime Minister Mark Carney creating a new trade agreement with China, President Trump responded that he didn't care – it was irrelevant to him.  Yet, simultaneously inside the USMCA President Trump has the power to veto any trade agreement between Mexico or Canada and a non-member nation. So, why didn't President Trump care?  Easy, because in President Trump's mind there's not going to be a USMCA; so, he really doesn't care if Canada runs to violate it.  In real terms, Canada doing bilateral deals with other countries, especially deals potentially detrimental to the USA, only strengthens his position on dissolving the USMCA. If Canada violates the terms and spirit of the USMCA, it makes dispatch of the unliked trade agreement even easier.  Canada is helping President Trump remove the congressional justification they could use to block him.  If Canada is violating the USMCA (CUSMA), Congress is kneecapped from interference. That repetitive exposure from them fatigues neural pathways but sustains heightened arousal, diverting cognitive resources from higher-order tasks to basic threat monitoring. It is an acute stressor, activating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and sympathetic nervous system, which releases cortisol and adrenaline. Long exposure to this stuff impairs prefrontal cortex function critical for decision making. Pair this with the sheer annoyance, these tactics are a low-tech escalation of protest disruption, rooted in documented physiological responses to noise. In layman’s terms, they’re putting these officers on edge and triggering them to act. Pretti and Good was exactly what they wanted. It’s usually someone else who ends up dying and not the instigator. This is a great example. Watch the guy at the rear strike an officer against the head with an object. These officers, already on edge, are very likely to react to something like that. When someone ends up getting hurt, they’re all innocent. These events aren’t random. These are organised tactics. 80% of the people protesting aren’t aware that they’re being used by their own team as cannon fodder to generate outrage. https://twitter.com/DataRepublican/status/2015620564787105892?s=20   Tending the Soil on Chuffed. She's tied into the donors, the nonprofits, the consultants, the media networks — all the gears that keep the Machine turning. And look at what she just did. She tweeted out that webpage directing people to donate through a foreign‑operated platform. That's not some innocent little share. That's the Machine signaling to its own network — money pipelines, global partners, and political messaging all moving in sync. She knows exactly what she's amplifying and who benefits from it. And this isn't new for her. Look back at Russiagate. Her campaign funded the Steele dossier — the spark that set off years of investigations, headlines, and division. Even after the whole thing fell apart under scrutiny, the chaos it created was already locked in. That's how the Machine works: it doesn't need accuracy, it just needs momentum. And she's been one of the people who knows how to generate that momentum better than anyone. So where does she sit in the Machine? Right in the core. Not elected. Not accountable. Still pulling levers through the same networks she helped build. She's not operating inside the Machine — she's one of the people who designed the damn thing. And that's why her name keeps showing up. Not because she holds office. But because the Machine still runs on the structures she put in place — and every time she boosts a link, a cause, or a narrative, you can see those old gears turning all over again.  https://twitter.com/julie_kelly2/status/2015963638096429102?s=20 https://twitter.com/WarClandestine/status/2015941282237972649?s=20     President Trump's Plan  And we back you WHOLEHEARTEDLY in making it happen https://twitter.com/TriciaOhio/status/2015939758858371393?s=20   https://twitter.com/EricLDaugh/status/2015858856430055491?s=20   professional. Defeat refers to actively dismantling the insurgent group’s capabilities—through kinetic operations (e.g., raids, airstrikes) to kill or capture leaders, disrupt supply lines, and degrade their fighting strength. Contain means preventing the insurgency from spreading or escalating. This could involve securing borders, isolating insurgent areas, or using psychological operations (psyops) to undermine their recruitment and propaganda. The “simultaneously” part stresses that these aren’t sequential steps; they happen in parallel. You can’t just “contain” without addressing threats, nor can you defeat an insurgency if it keeps regenerating in new areas. Key challenge: Insurgents often blend into the civilian population, making it hard to target them without collateral damage, which can create more enemies. 3. Address Its Root Causes Insurgencies don’t arise in a vacuum; they’re often driven by underlying issues like political exclusion, economic inequality, corruption, ethnic tensions, or lack of basic services. The definition insists that long-term success requires tackling these “root causes” to prevent resurgence. This might include reforms such as land redistribution, anti-corruption drives, inclusive governance, or economic development programs. Without this, military victories are temporary. For instance, historical cases like the Malayan Emergency (1948–1960) succeeded partly because British forces combined military action with resettlement programs and political concessions that addressed Malay grievances against colonial rule. Broader Context and Principles Population-Centric Approach: Modern COIN doctrine, influenced by thinkers like David Galula or modern adaptations, views the local population as the “center of gravity.” The goal is to protect civilians, gain their trust, and separate them from insurgents—often summarized as “clear, hold, build” (clear insurgents from an area, hold it securely, and build sustainable institutions). Challenges and Criticisms: COIN is resource-intensive, time-consuming, and politically fraught. It can lead to prolonged conflicts, human rights abuses, or mission creep. Critics argue it sometimes ignores cultural contexts or over-relies on foreign intervention, as seen in Vietnam or Iraq. Success Factors: Effective COIN requires unity of effort (coordination between allies), intelligence-driven operations, and adaptability. Metrics for success go beyond body counts to include governance improvements and reduced violence. In essence, this definition portrays counterinsurgency as a balanced, enduring campaign that blends force with reform to not just suppress rebellion but eliminate the conditions that sustain it.    https://twitter.com/EricLDaugh/status/2015886441063055779?s=20 patriots need all the support they can get!  Background on the “Big Beautiful Bill” and ICE Funding In 2025, Republicans passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (often referred to by President Trump as the “Big Beautiful Bill”), which allocated approximately $75 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over four years. This funding was separate from annual appropriations and effectively tripled ICE’s budget, providing a multi-year “slush fund” for immigration enforcement, including deportations.  This bill was part of Trump’s broader immigration agenda and bypassed traditional yearly funding processes, allowing ICE to operate independently of short-term congressional battles. Current Shutdown Threat and Democrats’ Strategy Democrats, led by figures like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sens. Patty Murray, Chris Murphy, and others, have vowed to block the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill in the Senate. This bill includes $64.4 billion for DHS overall, with about $10 billion specifically for ICE in the current fiscal year.  Why the Shutdown Won’t Defund ICE Even prominent Democrats like Sen. Murray acknowledge that a shutdown or continuing resolution (short-term funding patch) won’t restrain ICE. The agency can draw from the $75 billion already secured via the Big Beautiful Bill, allowing operations to continue uninterrupted under Trump’s “law-and-order” immigration crackdown.  A shutdown would primarily affect non-ICE parts of DHS (e.g., TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard) and other bundled departments, forcing some federal workers to go without pay while ICE remains funded and operational.  Republican Position and “Upper Hand” The White House and GOP leaders like Speaker Mike Johnson are not yielding, insisting on passing the full package without decoupling DHS funding. They view Democratic threats as ineffective since ICE’s core operations are protected by the prior bill.  The House has already passed the DHS bill with some Democratic support, putting pressure on the Senate. Republicans are framing this as Democrats prioritizing protests over essential services, giving the GOP leverage in negotiations.    https://twitter.com/AwakenedOutlaw/status/2015946190219837842?s=20   themselves, and engage in thoughtful discourse and/or express outrage against the wholesale ridiculousness of not allowing the government to do its job and protect us…and they do so for months on matters that most would never have otherwise engaged in AND would otherwise slip out of the news cycle quickly.    The Supreme Court ends up taking the case and rules (correctly) in favor of his administration. Piece by piece through this process, legal precedence is secured. Which, as it turns out, was deemed necessary to help secure the future of our Republic writ large. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. This implies that we are directly involved in an educational process, if you will, as we all progress through the realignment. NOW, the 8th Circuit has fully agreed that this reckless attempt to undermine law enforcement cannot stand. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals rules in favor of Trump admin allowing ICE agents to arrest, detain, pepper-spray or retaliate against violent anti-ICE rioters, in Minneapolis, without probable cause   (function(w,d,s,i){w.ldAdInit=w.ldAdInit||[];w.ldAdInit.push({slot:13499335648425062,size:[0, 0],id:"ld-7164-1323"});if(!d.getElementById(i)){var j=d.createElement(s),p=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];j.async=true;j.src="//cdn2.customads.co/_js/ajs.js";j.id=i;p.parentNode.insertBefore(j,p);}})(window,document,"script","ld-ajs");

If you've ever wondered why your deductible feels like a brick wall while insurers tout “savings,” this conversation goes straight to the source. Nathan Kaufman sits down with Mark Cuban to pull apart how PBMs and insurers shape drug prices, hide rebates, and use denials as financial float—while patients and providers pay the price. It's a rare, unfiltered tour through the pharmacy supply chain, medical loss ratio math, and the perverse incentives that keep care costly and complicated. We dig into the real-world fallout for physicians and hospitals: Medicare's stagnant updates, shadow-priced commercial contracts, and the administrative churn that drives independent practices into the arms of health systems or private equity. Mark challenges the industry to think like a startup—publish prices, strip out unnecessary vendors, and pay clinicians more with transparent, fixed margins. He shares why GPOs often inflate costs, how a virtual wholesaler model can save millions on injectables and specialty meds, and what happens when leadership manages silos instead of the whole enterprise. Then we get tactical. Imagine a standardized claim process across payers and a new financing model that replaces premium fights with unlimited HSAs plus government-backed medical loans pegged to Medicare rates. Pair that with direct contracts that pay providers quickly, no prior auth, no denials, and zero out-of-pocket for employees using posted agreements. Add agentic AI to audit thousands of contracts, verify invoices, and stop leakage dimes at a time—and a clearer path emerges: fewer middlemen, faster pay, better outcomes. Along the way, we confront uncomfortable truths about facility fees, subprime patient financing, and why breaking up insurance conglomerates or forcing divestiture of non-insurance assets could restore real competition. If you care about practical reform—transparent pricing, direct contracting, real outcomes data, and technology that kills waste—this is your playbook. Listen, share with a colleague who manages benefits or a hospital P&L, and tell us: where should transparency and direct contracts start in your market?
