As Frank starts his vacation, the 2 Guys are releasing a series of "interludes," watchalongs with terrible movies that give a glimpse into the oft-referenced Saturday night Zoom calls that Frank, Chris, and friend of the podcast Orion Wellmaker have. This watchalong is 1987's Night Vision about a young man new to the big city and gets embroiled with a satanic VCR that grants him visions of the future.
Hey, everyone! On this episode of The Board Boys Podcast we smuggle the booze and cook the books in Speakeasy from Eagle Gryphon Games and Vital Lacerda! We also talk about a ton of other games and take a look back at Unconscious Mind in our Bump or Dump Segment. Also on this episode we talk mobster movies and tv shows, Rob has a totally incorrect fact about Geraldo Riveria, we talk about some ladder climbing, and Templeton Rye Whisky made right here in our great state of Iowa. Until next time - we hope you like boardgames! 0:00 - Intro 1:30 - Mobster Talk TV and Movies 8:00 - Movie Night 10:45 - Stranger Things: Upside Down 12:05 - 3 Witches 17:55 - Click A Tree 21:30 - Bone Wars 24:10 - White Castle Duel 27:35 - Forestry 31:10 - Druids of Edora 35:30 - Speakeasy Intro 38:10 - Interlude 38:40 - Speakeasy Review 1:06:45 - Speakeasy Final Thoughts 1:11:00 - Unconscious Mind 1:16:35 - Outro and Patron Thanks
It's time for Life in the Fast Lane (about Make-Up Oscars?) and a bit of a twist on our normal episode format. We start, as usual, in the Tokyo Drift Minute to explore new nicknames, including perhaps more implied racism? (Or: maybe not.) We then Run the VIN to find only one image, but in keeping up with historical precedent, Vin is once again in full-on campaign mode (and also again not looking at the right camera). Could Vin Diesel take a digital detox in 2026? What other cars could be immortalized in LEGO? We discuss. Then, we deep dive (featuring spoilers) into Marty Supreme. We lament that both this movie and One Battle After Another came out this year. Joe talks about seeing a charming Short King on screen, and we praise the casting from top to bottom. We then discuss Joshua Oppenheim's upcoming film Primetime (as well as the other new Robert Pattinson movie, The Drama) before we talk about make-up Oscar (and make-up NFL MVP) wins, as well as Hollywood's latest way of grabbing audience attention. As Frank continues his vacation, he joins us from Thailand and walks us through all the movies he watched on his flights - the first two Equalizer movies, Godzilla Minus One, a rewatch of Star Wars: A New Hope, and Life of Chuck. And, of course, food.

The Age of Victoria returns for the 2026 season with a high-energy prologue to our new series, “Hunger and Revolution”. In this episode, we follow the “magnificent, terrible, magnetic” Lola Montez as she transitions from the stage to the high-stakes world of European politics. Lola becomes an “accidental bunch of dynamite,” moving through the bohemian circles of Paris and the royal halls of Munich. Her volatile relationship with the “rockstar” composer Franz Liszt and her scandalous influence over King Ludwig I of Bavaria serve as a sparking point for the unrest that would soon consume the continent. Against the grim backdrop of the “Continental Famine” and rising industrial tensions, we examine how one woman's individual actions could help bring the curtain down on the pre-modern age. Key Topics Covered: Bohemian Paris in the 1840s: A city of romance and industry undergoing a transformation marked by early railway stations, gas streetlights, and artistic experimentation. Lisztomania and the Great Composers: Exploring the electric performances and scandalous love life of Franz Liszt—the “rockstar” of the 19th century—who redefined the status of the artist in society. The Duel of Dujarier: Lola's time in the French literary scene alongside figures like Victor Hugo ended in tragedy when her lover, journalist Alexandre Henri Dujarier, was killed in a reluctant pistol duel. The “Gallery of Beauties”: A look at the 36 oil paintings in King Ludwig's collection, where Lola's portrait eventually sparked a national scandal. The Continental Famine: Examining the “parallel story” of the 1845–1847 potato blight across Europe that fueled the urban discontent leading to the 1848 revolutions. The Fall of Munich: The student riots at the University of Munich involving the “Lolamannen,” the exile of Montez, and King Ludwig I's ultimate abdication. “The Battle of Ballarat”: A summary of Lola's later years, including her infamous whip-fight with a newspaper editor in the Australian goldfields. Works Cited & Sources: Edmund B. d'Auvergne: Lola Montez: An Adventuress of the 'Forties (Project Gutenberg). We're joined by Jeanette Ward to talk about Fast & Furious! And, as a bit of a bonus, about Los Bandoleros as well! After we find out what Jeanette likes to see in her big-budget action films (and what she dislikes), we talk about this movie as the first "true" sequel to the original and her thoughts on Los Bandoleros. She shares her rankings (and a new take on No Knees Denise). Who were people rooting for when this movie came out: Dom or Brian? We discuss. We also talk about if Fast & Furious is the first movie where Vin figures out who Dom is, whether Dom can use chopsticks, and whether Brian is good at pool. Jeanette shares what she would like to see in the future of the franchise and then takes the character quiz. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. It's time for our final episode of the year, and our final Life in the Fast Lane! Don't worry: "I can see something beautiful, cinematic." After covering a Tokyo Drift minute that features a deep dive into the career of Brian Tee (and a new nickname for DK?), we head over to Instagram to Run the VIN, where we notice a series of photos where he's looking at a different camera than the one that took the photo he posted. We then ask: what's going on with Cristiano Ronaldo? Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots? The next Fast film? Ark 2? (We have very few answers.) Does Tyrese care whether or not he's posting AI photos? (Probably not!) We talk about new TV, the latest in sports (outdated when you hear this, naturally!), and Radiohead in Copenhagen. In this episode of Sibling Library we carry on the Victorian tradition of reading ghost stories for Christmas. Please enjoy this dramatic reading of Bring Me A Light anonymously published in 1861. Thank you to friend of the show, Jeff Baham, for lending your voice and talents to this project. You can also check out the DoomBuggies Podcast for a more in depth discussion about this Victorian tradition.
Merry Christmas! We've set a very low bar with holiday movies on this podcast, but Ludacris is here to save the day with Dashing Through the Snow! Well, to be fair, he doesn't seem like he wants to be in this movie, but at least Lil Rel Howery does. After Joey details the true lack of background and trivia, we talk about the unique angles (both in terms of story and lore) that this movie takes before talking about a Christmas movie and belief conundrum. We write the sequel to this movie, explore the world of streaming finances, and imagine streamers' big boards of "content to create." Joey points out what Joe imagines "people who like Christmas" look like. We talk about "movies to wrap presents to," whether a dog is far too big of a gift for Santa to give, and other Christmas movies we could watch. Is Joe... becoming less of a Grinch? We explore. Episode 113 - Is Ingmar Berman's 1957 film Wild Strawberries a Christmas Carol story? Hold on tight because this along with a lot of other questions are raised during our two hour long double feature discussion of Wild Strawberries (1957) and Summer Interlude (1951). We're making up for a long-time oversight on the podcast by finally watching The French Connection, starring Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider! After exploring the historical context of 1971 films (and which Best Picture winners we've covered on the podcast), we turn our appreciation toward a thing that influenced so many on-screen car chases, cop movies, and The Wire. We talk about how our podcast keeps crossing over with fast food restaurants, how The French Connection captures the griminess of 1970s Brooklyn and subways and real locations (and real bars), and how William Friedkin seems hellbent on showing actual illicit activities on-screen. Joe admires chemistry glass Joey breaks down *the* on-screen car chase. We talk about how the film is like Fast Five. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. In the frozen hills of Rhuv, the Sigrunsgjalfi Children's Home sits silent beneath a sky of unfamiliar stars. No lights glow in the windows and no signs of celebration mark the coming of Alf Gappen's Day. Yet in the stillness, a single sleeping child hums a quiet tune that carries impossibly far across the snow. Three spirits hear it and cross the tundra to a place stripped of joy, determined to bring warmth and wonder. Speaking of hall of fame... it's time for another Life in the Fast Lane! There is so much we have to cover. First up, the Tokyo Drift Minute, which sets up a techno-divide and allows us the opportunity to take a dive deep into Nathalie Kelley's life. (She loves fungi!) We Run the VIN again to see another near hostage situation, a new title for the next Fast film, an ode to Dwayne (or is it?), and a massively edited love letter to Paul on the anniversary of his death. We recover some YouTube and Spotify comments before exploring the asexuality of Hobbs and the Vin-fueled history of Riddick: Furya. This will be our last episode for a while. December is just going to be too chaotic to get much recording in. So we're taking a 4 week break after this. Jaymee couldn't make it for this one, but we got to the end of Part 4, which is a downer, for real. Some of the interludes are quite interesting though!

Episode 2 of our Holiday Interlude dives into the Ring Poem — one of the most spiritually revealing passages in The Lord of the Rings.Using only The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Doug explores how the poem reveals the spiritual identity of Elves, Dwarves, and Men, and what their Rings of Power actually do in Tolkien's world.Discover how the Rings amplify spiritual nature, why some races resist corruption and others fall into it, and how Tolkien subtly shows the unseen forces at work without ever explaining them directly. This episode is a key step in recovering a supernatural imagination — both for reading Tolkien and for understanding the unseen realm in our own world. In this episode, Doug examines the famous Ring Poem:“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky…”Far from being just lore, this poem functions as a map of the spiritual order of Middle-earth. By looking closely at each line, Doug highlights the unique spiritual identities of Elves, Dwarves, and Men — and shows how the Rings of Power amplify what is already true within each race.In this episode you'll learn:- Why the Elven Rings preserve, heal, and resist decay- How the Dwarven Rings amplify desire for gold and the ability to create wealth- Why the Rings given to Men lead to domination, and corruption,- How the One Ring embodies the will of the Dark LordDoug also draws on poetry from The Hobbit to show how Tolkien embeds spiritual identity in song and story.By the end of the episode, listeners will recognize the Rings of Power not as magical devices, but as spiritual amplifiers that reveal — and distort — the identity of those who use them. This is a foundational episode for learning to “see” the spiritual forces moving in Tolkien's world, and for recognizing similar patterns in our world and in Scripture.

Tolkien's world can retrain us to think supernaturally—helping modern readers recover the enchanted, pre-materialistic imagination that both Tolkien and Scripture assume.Episode 1 lays out the purpose of the series:- Why Tolkien helps us reawaken a supernatural worldview- How The Lord of the Rings subtly reveals unseen spiritual forces- Why Dr. Cory Olsen (The Tolkien Professor) inspired this approach- How this mini-season bridges into Season 2: Seers of the Bible with Emily in 2026If you've ever wanted to see the spiritual dimension within Tolkien's world—and recognize similar patterns in our own—this episode is your invitation to step through the door and into the unseen realm of Middle-earth.In this opening episode of our Holiday Interlude, Doug explains why Tolkien is the perfect guide for anyone seeking to understand the supernatural world. Tolkien writes with a medieval imagination—a worldview where spiritual beings, providence, enchantment, corruption, and hidden powers operate behind the visible world.Drawing on insights from Dr. Cory Olsen, “The Tolkien Professor,” Doug shows how The Lord of the Rings trains modern readers to notice the spiritual activity Tolkien shows but never over-explains.This approach mirrors how Scripture invites us to recognize unseen forces shaping events, identity, and calling. This episode sets the stage for the mini-season, which will explore:- The Ring Poem (Episode 2)- The Prologue as ancient historiography (Episode 3)- Gandalf's spiritual authority, providence, and the Nazgûl (Episode 4)- Tom Bombadil, nature spirits, singing as spiritual warfare, Caradhras, and moreJoin us as we rediscover the supernatural imagination Tolkien intended—and learn to see the world around us with new eyes.

We've got that Dom state of mind... on today's Life in the Fast Lane as we cover our first Tokyo Drift Minute in quite a while! We ask: does Neela have a song, and who are the "Tea Hair" characters? Then, we Run the VIN and find an entire monologue he edited out of a post. What do Tom Cruise and Vin Diesel think of one another? Do they take each other's calls? Wes writes in a couple of emails, which leads us to discuss why Jason Statham's popularity has persisted, as well as the odds the Fast Finale is the best Fast film so far. We talk about Stephen King adaptations, Pluribus, and other things we're watching. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. The Sunday after Magic Johnson announced his HIV-status, Jim Mitulski preached a sermon on being tired of people dying. We're sharing it as an interlude, a pause, and an immersion into one moment in AIDS' bleak midwinter. For images and links about this episode visit https://www.heavenpodcast.org/interlude. In the sermon Rev. Mitulski refers to ARC. That means AIDS-Related Complex, a diagnostic category meant to indicate an earlier stage of HIV infection than AIDS. It was common in the period to hear references to both AIDS and ARC. “Old Devil Time” is by Pete Seeger. The AIDS verses are by MCC San Francisco congregant Paul Francis. You can see Magic Johnson's press release, announcing his HIV status here. The biblical passage Rev. Mitulski is preaching on is John 11:1-44. Get more Outward with Slate Plus!
