2 Fast 2 Forever: The Fast and Furious Podcast

We're joined by Ben Fritz of the Wall Street Journal to talk all about Fast Five and the future of the franchise! After talking about his beat at the WSJ, what he covers, and how he started writing about entertainment, we ask what he thinks the future will hold for the Fast franchise. We discuss the creative and financial imperatives at stake, how much money a movie needs to make to be "successful," and how the business plan for Fast Five got him invested in the franchise in the first place. Will the next Fast movie try for anything other than wrapping up a story? Will we see canonical Fast shows on Peacock? We sure hope so! We talk about the reality of how the Family has never heisted more than $100 million (in this economy?), how Fast Five outsmarts the "average action film" in exceptional ways, and how Ben would spend $200 million on Fast 11. We Run the VIN for another light session... but calendars and time are subjective to Vin Diesel, so does this cadence even matter? Tyrese enters the Criterion Collection! We celebrate. We hear of a new Fast-esque TTRPG. What are the most memorable kisses in the Fast and Furious movies? Joe tries to guess. We're each counting down our personal Top 5 favorites—the themes that instantly transport us back to Saturday mornings, after-school TV, and living rooms filled with toys on the floor. From catchy earworms to full-blown mini anthems, we play each theme on the show and talk about what made them stick, why they still rule, and how these songs became just as iconic as the cartoons themselves. If you've ever found yourself humming a theme song decades later, this episode is for you. 2 Fast 2 Forever: The Fast and Furious Podcast

We're hitting the road to talk about Duel, Steven Spielberg's first film, and we're joined by Mark Hofmeyer! After learning more Mark lore, we talk about the evolution of Duel from TV movie to full-length feature, the history of rye bread, and how impressive the filmmaking is in this film (on every level). Which Fast and Furious character would do the best in this situation? Mark quizzes us. We talk about how the whole film feels very Fast & Furious (2009) coded, when the movie feels the most like the Twilight Zone, and whether or not people were rooting for the trucker to win. We also talk about our favorite Spielberg chase scenes, cross this film over with Ridley Scott's The Last Duel, and pick Mark's brain for movies to watch in other laps. Listen on headphones or speakers for best results.Today we were going to air the first “Psychedelics and Christianity” panel, but then a crisis hit our family: my husband fell and broke both bones in his left forearm, while rock climbing with our kids. When I got his call from the ER, I was 2500 miles away, working remotely on ROGD Repair from a peaceful Airbnb in Holualoa, Hawaii, where I was recharging on a solo trip. Needless to say, the news hit hard; it felt like the ground dropped out from under me.There was a crisis whirlwind: catching up to speed on the situation; coordinating with my husband, doctors and nurses, friends and family; and figuring out how to get home quickly, despite his insistence I stay in Hawaii and somehow “enjoy” my birthday there despite knowing the love of my life was suffering without me.When I got home, I was thankful to our amazing friends who had risen to the occasion and cared for him in my absence, but it was clear that the severity of the situation had been downplayed. My first full day back was spent handling the chaos of our home in disarray, coordinating overworked and saintly friends, and quickly catching up to speed on his pain, medications, mobility issues, caregiving needs, and surgery plan. Not to mention the psychological adjustment to finding the man who'd spent so much time taking care of me suddenly being the helpless patient in need of tending. That day also happened to be my birthday, which I'd originally planned to spend boogie boarding and whale watching. Bless my husband's heart — he still made sure a friend picked up a dessert for me. But I chose to save most of the presents he'd prepared well in advance for a day with a more celebratory mood. What mattered was that he be able to have surgery as quickly as possible, that we be adequately prepared, and that he not further injure himself while his bones were loose.Thankfully, the orthopedic surgeon was able to get my husband in the very next day, and despite the sickening level of anxiety I felt in the waiting room, the procedure went as well as it could have: he had great bones, a clean fracture, excellent range of motion and an ideal recovery prognosis. My husband now has plates and screws in his arm; a bandage/splint/sling situation; and a schedule of pain relief, ice, and elevation. He's encouraged to move gently, and will begin occupational therapy in two weeks when the sutures are removed. Meanwhile, I'm adjusting to my new role as my responsibilities have drastically increased to include both nursing him, and taking over all the chores and errands he used to handle. I'm in one of those chapters where all you can do is focus on the next thing you must do.Although my husband should be resting, we are also dealing with a completely separate issue, a private family situation causing loads of stress and costing even greater loads of money. So while he's on the couch with his arm elevated and iced, he's still working remotely on what he can to ameliorate the other thing. We were prepared for a rainy day, even a stormy one. We just weren't prepared to be pelted with hail the size of golf balls. This feels like a sneak preview into the reality of aging. With his one good hand, my poor sweet husband was going to try to make sure to get you this week's episode as usual. But I see no reason not to save that for next week with all we're going through. Especially not when I have this amazing recording we can use. This took him minutes to assemble, not hours.See, before the accident, one morning in Holualoa, HI, I woke up before dawn. The chorus of birds, frogs, and insects there is normally amazing, especially at that time of day, but it was even more incredible that morning with the rain. There is something so magical about being in a place teeming with life all around you. So I opened my voice memos app and started a new recording; sat my phone down carefully on the ledge of the lanai; and sipped coffee as quietly as possible while listening to the chorus, hoping my phone's mic would hear it as keenly as my ears did. I am pretty pleased with how the recording turned out, and I wanted to turn it into a track that could be looped, if only for myself. But I decided to share it with you too. It's pretty perfect if you ask me, aside from the occasional vehicle motor humming in the background. So today, in honor of my husband's healing, I bring you ten minutes of a glorious chorus of tropical birds, insects, frogs, and rain. It feels like bringing home a little piece of my time on the island, making up for the trip being cut short. Studies show 20 minutes of birdsong a day improves mental health. I hope this brings you peace.I'm explaining everything in the notes here, and not including any speech in the podcast, both because that's easier, and because it allows you to loop this track for sound therapy. You can listen to it over and over. I recommend playing it in the morning while waking up.If you want to help us out while my husband is unable to work, you can send money via Venmo or Paypal. Title: WisdomScripture Reading: Job 28:1-3, 23-28Guest preacher Adam Brill joins Grace 242 to explore the concept of wisdom as presented in Job 28, which acts as an "interlude" within the book of Job, bridging historical narrative and poetic dialogue. It contrasts human efforts to acquire valuable material possessions with the unattainable nature of true wisdom through human means. Wisdom ultimately comes solely from God, found in fearing the Lord and shunning evil. Adam leaves us with an encouragement toward biblical literacy and understanding of scriptural context.

It's time for Life in the Fast Lane (about Make-Up Oscars?) and a bit of a twist on our normal episode format. We start, as usual, in the Tokyo Drift Minute to explore new nicknames, including perhaps more implied racism? (Or: maybe not.) We then Run the VIN to find only one image, but in keeping up with historical precedent, Vin is once again in full-on campaign mode (and also again not looking at the right camera). Could Vin Diesel take a digital detox in 2026? What other cars could be immortalized in LEGO? We discuss. Then, we deep dive (featuring spoilers) into Marty Supreme. We lament that both this movie and One Battle After Another came out this year. Joe talks about seeing a charming Short King on screen, and we praise the casting from top to bottom. AGE OF VICTORIA PODCAST

The Age of Victoria returns for the 2026 season with a high-energy prologue to our new series, “Hunger and Revolution”. In this episode, we follow the “magnificent, terrible, magnetic” Lola Montez as she transitions from the stage to the high-stakes world of European politics. Lola becomes an “accidental bunch of dynamite,” moving through the bohemian circles of Paris and the royal halls of Munich. Her volatile relationship with the “rockstar” composer Franz Liszt and her scandalous influence over King Ludwig I of Bavaria serve as a sparking point for the unrest that would soon consume the continent. Against the grim backdrop of the “Continental Famine” and rising industrial tensions, we examine how one woman's individual actions could help bring the curtain down on the pre-modern age. Key Topics Covered: Bohemian Paris in the 1840s: A city of romance and industry undergoing a transformation marked by early railway stations, gas streetlights, and artistic experimentation. Lisztomania and the Great Composers: Exploring the electric performances and scandalous love life of Franz Liszt—the “rockstar” of the 19th century—who redefined the status of the artist in society. The Duel of Dujarier: Lola's time in the French literary scene alongside figures like Victor Hugo ended in tragedy when her lover, journalist Alexandre Henri Dujarier, was killed in a reluctant pistol duel. The “Gallery of Beauties”: A look at the 36 oil paintings in King Ludwig's collection, where Lola's portrait eventually sparked a national scandal. The Continental Famine: Examining the “parallel story” of the 1845–1847 potato blight across Europe that fueled the urban discontent leading to the 1848 revolutions. The Fall of Munich: The student riots at the University of Munich involving the “Lolamannen,” the exile of Montez, and King Ludwig I's ultimate abdication. “The Battle of Ballarat”: A summary of Lola's later years, including her infamous whip-fight with a newspaper editor in the Australian goldfields. Works Cited & Sources: Edmund B. d'Auvergne: Lola Montez: An Adventuress of the 'Forties (Project Gutenberg). It's time for our final episode of the year, and our final Life in the Fast Lane! Don't worry: "I can see something beautiful, cinematic." After covering a Tokyo Drift minute that features a deep dive into the career of Brian Tee (and a new nickname for DK?), we head over to Instagram to Run the VIN, where we notice a series of photos where he's looking at a different camera than the one that took the photo he posted. We then ask: what's going on with Cristiano Ronaldo? Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots? The next Fast film? Ark 2? (We have very few answers.) Does Tyrese care whether or not he's posting AI photos? (Probably not!) We talk about new TV, the latest in sports (outdated when you hear this, naturally!), and Radiohead in Copenhagen. Merry Christmas! We've set a very low bar with holiday movies on this podcast, but Ludacris is here to save the day with Dashing Through the Snow! Well, to be fair, he doesn't seem like he wants to be in this movie, but at least Lil Rel Howery does. After Joey details the true lack of background and trivia, we talk about the unique angles (both in terms of story and lore) that this movie takes before talking about a Christmas movie and belief conundrum. We write the sequel to this movie, explore the world of streaming finances, and imagine streamers' big boards of "content to create." Joey points out what Joe imagines "people who like Christmas" look like. We talk about "movies to wrap presents to," whether a dog is far too big of a gift for Santa to give, and other Christmas movies we could watch. Is Joe... becoming less of a Grinch? We explore. We're making up for a long-time oversight on the podcast by finally watching The French Connection, starring Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider! After exploring the historical context of 1971 films (and which Best Picture winners we've covered on the podcast), we turn our appreciation toward a thing that influenced so many on-screen car chases, cop movies, and The Wire. We talk about how our podcast keeps crossing over with fast food restaurants, how The French Connection captures the griminess of 1970s Brooklyn and subways and real locations (and real bars), and how William Friedkin seems hellbent on showing actual illicit activities on-screen. Joe admires chemistry glass Joey breaks down *the* on-screen car chase. We talk about how the film is like Fast Five.
