Austin Wolf-Sothern returns to the show to close out the series and talk about Freeway II: Confessions of a Trickbaby! First, we have questions, including: What is a trickbaby? What is the Hansel and Gretel story? After Joey offers a podcast-wide disclaimer, we compare this movie to the first Freeway, talk about this film's problematic elements (including Vincent Gallo), and wonder how much of this movie was shot and deleted. We once again praise Matthew Bright for showing a level of compassion to his characters far beyond what you'd expect in an exploitation film and how this film portrays empathy. We discuss the connective tissue between these movies, except maybe there isn't any? Joe talks about the best way to enjoy a shower beer. We watch the bizarre trailer for Freeway II. Austin makes a guess for Hobbs's screentime in Fast Forever and then takes the character quiz. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. It's a Toretto Summer… and you know what that means… it's time for Life in the Fast Lane! We kick off with a Tokyo Drift Minute wherein Joe has nothing to do, although it is our first reference to Uncle Kamata, so we talk about him for a while. Is Joey's urge for Vin Diesel Instagram media literacy finally spreading? Probably not, but we Run the VIN anyway, and wonder: how old are some of these photos that Vin is sharing? How does Vin Diesel write his text messages? Is Vin Diesel one of the biggest figures in the car world? We watch a very long video with Vin and Michelle, where they are (maybe) impaired. Then, we run through a few of our notes from Dan Hassler-Forest's book before asking: is Fast Forever actually filming in December? What is “the request from the studio” that Vin needs to see if he “can make good on”? Joe invites Vin Diesel to a dinner party and guesses that The Rock will have to lose a fight in Fast Forever. We talk about how we are teetering on a brink on the Patreon (in a good way), then discuss The End of Oak Street (and Anne Hathaway's all-time run in 2026) before Joey talks about Phoebe Bridgers' Lost Weekend Planetarium Experience. We're heading to another cliffhanger as we talk about Fast X with Dr. Dan Hassler-Forest, author of Fast and Furious Franchising: How the Serialized Blockbuster Remade Hollywood! Joey starts things out by asking a tough question: does Dan like these movies? After getting confirmation (yes, yes he does), Dan explains how he could like them even more, why he wrote his book, and what he wanted to explore with the franchise. We talk about how Hollywood has changed — and how Fast & Furious is a reflection of that — who Dan wrote this book for, and what Dan left out that will “haunt him to [his] grave.” Joey talks about ideas for future laps (based on the book), we break down petromasculinity and automancers, and we talk about Dan's academic analysis of Spy Racers (and what Netflix was trying to do with the series). Then, Dan talks about what he doesn't like about Fast X and what he'd do if he was in charge of Fast Forever before he takes the character quiz. We get our first interludes of the book, and it's interesting that this is the first time we've already known everyone who gets an interlude. Does that mean Brandon has run out of new characters for us to meet? Yeah, right. Starting part 2 is bringing out some interesting plot lines, though. The crew is especially excited to return to Shadesmar with Adolin and Shallan. Music by Miracle of Sound: https://miracleofsound.bandcamp.com/ The episode mentions a couple of funny movie scripts that someone emailed us links to. After reading them, the first one The Way of Kings I'm going to hold off on letting the crew read because there's a couple of names in there we haven't met yet. No big spoilers though. So I'll include the links here: https://www.reddit.com/r/cremposting/comments/ubseae/plot_of_the_stormlight_movie/ https://www.reddit.com/r/cremposting/comments/17s5bx2/a_sneak_peek_at_the_mistborn_movie_plot/
In this interlude episode of the Weekend Torah Teaching, Dennis delves into the complexities of family life, exploring the imperfections and challenges that are inherent in even the most seemingly perfect families. From the biblical patriarchs to modern-day relationships, the speaker examines the ways in which family dynamics can be fraught with pain, jealousy, and even violence. The episode takes a close look at the stories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Abraham and Sarah, and Jacob and his brothers, highlighting the struggles and conflicts that arose in these ancient families. Dennis also discusses the importance of honoring one's parents, the role of Shabbat in promoting family harmony, and the Jewish tradition of divorce as a means of preserving a happy home. Throughout the conversation, the speaker draws on personal anecdotes and biblical examples to illustrate the universal themes of family life. Next week, we begin the studies on the second book in the Torah: Exodus. It's time for an installment of Life in the Fast Lane that is jam-packed with news about the Fastiverse, and I am still crying… well, I guess we are. Anyway, we kick off with the Tokyo Drift Minute (#41), which features our first real conversation between Sean and Neela. Then, we start Running the VIN, where Vin Diesel “officially confirms” a new project he's working on and is “underwhelmingly normal” in one post. We also get to the really big (non-) news via his Instagram and related interviews: is there a tearjerker of a Fast Forever script? Is Louis Leterrier directing the film? Is Alan Ritchson in it? No one seems to know! We briefly discuss Sung Kang's upcoming film DRIFTER (you can watch the trailer here) and ask whether or not Vin Diesel could tell the end of the franchise's story without the help of Universal Pictures. We also talk about Her Private Hell, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and I Want Your Sex. (Spoiler-free!) Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. In this release, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre enters a new period of conflict and transition. In Chapter 10, we see his final years in Dakar, as Senegal moves toward independence and the Church faces difficult questions about Islam, socialism, inculturation, Catholic Action, and the future of Africa. Through it all, he remains steady: courteous and practical, but unwilling to compromise Catholic truth. Then, in Chapter 11, he is sent to the small French diocese of Tulle, where he finds a Church weakened by decline, discouragement, and confusion. Yet even there, in only a few months, he encourages priests, defends sound Catholic action, and begins planning renewal — before being called again to a much larger responsibility. Austin Wolf-Sothern returns to the show after a (very) long absence to talk about Freeway starring Reese Witherspoon! After reminding us of the role he played in establishing one of the main bits of our podcast lore, we talk about his (very apt!) first viewing of this movie. We run through director Matthew Bright's fascinating filmography, discuss the Little Red Riding Hood framework, and try to make sense of the bizarre order of the credits in this movie. We heap praise on Reese Witherspoon (and her star turn in this movie), admire the love and empathy that Matthew Bright has for his characters, and talk about how ahead of its time Freeway was (in many ways). Austin praises Brittany Murphy. We talk about the reveal of the final scene at grandmother's house -- and how different it is in the original (and Vinegar Syndrome-restored) version. If you've listening to this, you been with this show a while, scroll back to the beginning of the feed. Everything down there is new.Every episode from the start of this show has been remade. Season one, season two, all of it — re-researched, rewritten, re-recorded, and re-uploaded in place. Some seasons are even totally new content. The old files are gone. You don't have to do anything; if you have the show, you already have them. And they are not the episodes you remember. The early ones ran 5 to 15 minutes. Now they all run 20 to 30. Jamestown isn't a paragraph about starvation anymore. It's a servant boy's letter home. The founding isn't a summary of what was argued. It's the argument. That's a lot of listening — hundreds of new hours of it, sitting in your feed.If you joined in the middle, this is your chance to start at the actual beginning. If episode one lost you years ago, that episode doesn't exist anymore. And if you've heard every episode of this show — go back anyway. You've heard maybe a third of what's there now.New episodes are paused for a couple of months while I work on the next season. But there is plenty to listen to until then.As always, Thank you for listening to American Political History.

Show Notes On this week's Yugoslav History Interlude, they say that if you want to understand any political event in Europe you have to start with the Romans... and that may well be true for the split between Tito and Stalin. After going through a few of the theories competing to explain the sudden rupture in the apparently cozy relationship between two of Europe's most prominent Communists, we zero in on the Adriatic Question - the first of a series of foreign policy entanglements that put the Yugoslavs at odds with their Russian patrons. It's time for Life in the Fast Lane, and we've got a big Kojak-inspired question: Who taught ya how to love, baby? We begin with a Tokyo Drift Minute wherein DK enrages Joe for hitting a little too close to home, and we receive a question for Minute 15. Then: we have thirteen (!) VINs to run, and he's "hiding in plain sight." Joe continues down his rabbit hole of belief that Vin is listening to us, Joey wonders what's up with all the Russian comments, and Vin posts a video that's nearly six minutes long. Jackie writes in to ask: Is Vin opportunistic based on his baldness? Also: could we have a bald man Royal Rumble for the rights to Kojak? Joey begs Joe to get offline. Joe goes to play shuffleboard and Joey has an all-time bad theater experience. We talk about The Odyssey and The Invite and Toy Story 5. Joe once again fails to ruin Disclosure Day for Joey. "Fan favorite" Garrett Smith returns to the podcast to talk about F9 and to answer a question: is "fan favorite" akin to a title belt that we can take away? After we get his updated rankings and his screentime guess for The Rock in Fast Forever, Joe comes up with a new thing to track for our next lap. We talk about how Gisele's return cheapens Han's arc in F9, whether the extended cuts in Fast & Furious movies are actually worth watching, and the level of action and drama in this movie that feels incredibly heightened (especially when compared to the really grounded -- and really impressive -- practical driving in F9). We share what we love about Jakob and John Cena's performance in this movie, break down the very basic lessons learned in the latter Fast movies, and wonder how we go from outer space to basic, for Fast Forever, or if going to space in this movie was actually... kind of mild? We lament the sad state of turning popular films into TV series, discuss Roman's (literal) big swing, and revisit the Star Wars references through a new lens. It's time for another Life in the Fast Lane, and we're here to share a piece of advice: “You don't plan a life that rhymes like that.” We enter the backrooms in the Tokyo Drift Minute (#39) to find some Initial D connections, and to wonder what Japanese words Sean has picked up so far as well as what he thinks Morimoto says. We then Run the VIN, which features a couple of very long posts. (Classic Vin.) Joe asks: how would we spend a day as Vin's Kojak videographer? Joey raises a new goal of media literacy for this segment: to ensure no one else is further duped by Vin Diesel suggesting that Fast Forever is definitely in production, and it's definitely not a World Cup promo. (Alas.) The Rock continues his quest for an Oscar win with a potentially questionable decision. Jason writes in to dive in deeper into the Bear Paw minute, as well as to share some stats about various F&F rankings. (Rotten Tomatoes is wild!) We talk about the big moves made at Joey's BBQ re: our Fast Forever prize before discussing new release movies (Leviticus, Jackass: Best and Last, and Supergirl). Joey talks about winning a very cool lottery, sort of. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. We hear how symbolist artist Sean Jefferson, was called into painting via an Enochian magic ritual and the unfolding of his innate Spiritualist Mediumship which eventually led to his connection with the Ruralist movement (The Brotherhood of Ruralists). We take a look at some of Sean's paintings and discuss his relationship with the characters in these images, how the paintings themselves come into form via automatic painting and the range of visceral responses to the images. Sean shares some personal experiences including a childhood malevolent tree presence, a ‘fetch' encounter and his ancestral spirit guide, 'Michael Foy' who has inspired his forthcoming book 'The Alchymical Garden of Michael Foy' ⚡️ On the 2 hour, F U L L L E N G T H E P I S O D E for full members on TMFSP Patreon, Sean describes: Open circle mediumship and how he works with trance states How he makes space for the work to flow through him His relationship with the paintings during and after their creation. A UFO experience and we discuss what it may have been linked to The painting he had to destroy What happened when a spirit guide became more intrusive Shownotes Sean's work is available to view at Messums who also stock his beautiful catalogues: https://www.messums.com/artists/view/1218/Sean_Jefferson Sean's Insta: https://www.instagram.com/seanjeffersonart/ Austin Osmand Spare The Book of Pleasurehttps://whatmagicisthis.com/2021/01/07/austin-osman-spare/ The Enochian Magic of Dr John Deehttps://archive.org/details/theenochianmagickofdr.johndee.themostpowerfulsystemofmagickinitsoriginalunexpurg/page/n7/mode/2up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Book_of_Abramelin Sean is giving a free talk on the visionary art of nineteenth century painter, Richard Dadd at Messums Gallery, St James London on Wednesday 29th July: "Jefferson will reflect on the role of imagination, myth, and inner vision in artistic creation, offering insights into how artists translate intangible experiences into visual form. Sean will also draw on his own practice, using works-in-progress images to consider how visionary imagery is conceived, built, and brought into being. Through close looking and thoughtful discussion, the talk will open up the intricate details of Dadd's work, inviting audiences to consider their layered meanings and enduring fascination. This promises to be a rich and engaging evening for anyone interested in art, symbolism, and the creative process." As Frank starts his vacation, the 2 Guys are releasing a series of "interludes," watchalongs with terrible movies that give a glimpse into the oft-referenced Saturday night Zoom calls that Frank, Chris, and friend of the podcast Orion Wellmaker have. This watchalong is 1987's Timestalkers starring William Devane, Klaus Kinski, and Lauren Hutton.

We're headed to the surreal post-apocalyptic (?) wasteland of Motorama, and Joey has assembled his co-host Avengers, Mike Manzi and Bob (aka Shreds), for help! After Bob talks about how he discovered this movie -- and the (maybe) genius behind it -- we talk about who the movie is for (unclear) and what it's trying to say about the American Dream (also unclear). We discuss its Twin Peaks vibes and dream logic, its long list of cameos and character actors, and our favorite scenes and moments. Mike connects this movie with a legendary Nicolas Cage movie. Show Notes In the Interlude this week, does Yugoslavia still matter? Does it still matter for Gundam in 1994? Plus, back in Yugoslavia: Stalin pulls a top ten anime betrayal (which might even be a Top Ten Stalin Betrayal, a much more competitive field), Yugoslavia proves itself a strange kind of beast, Ante Pavelić is more the slippery kind, and this podcast still isn't about Prince Paul. Mobile Suit Breakdown is written, recorded, and produced within Lenapehoking, the ancestral and unceded homeland of the Lenape, or Delaware, people. It's time for Life in the Fast Lane and a trip down memory lane, “because tonight, I am six years old again.” (We all are, in a sense.) We begin with a Tokyo Drift Minute in transition (where are we?) wherein Joe explains the rules (and the “rules”) of pachinko, we discuss a pop culture reference that still holds up today (and which leads to a trivia question), and we take a trip down nostalgia lane. Plus, we read emails featuring question suggestions for Minute 37. We then Run the VIN, where he (naturally) takes pride and ownership in the Knicks' win. Then, in trailer talk, we guess the release date for the first Fast Forever trailer and watch the trailer for the re-release. The Rock talks about politics… sort of. Jackie writes in to talk about the age of the Furious and to make a pitch for a Fast TV series. (By the way, the answer to the Community x Fast trivia question is Brie Larson.) Joe recaps a bunch of horror he's watched recently and is shocked by how much Joey loved Disclosure Day. We talk about restaurants. We're heading to Samoa again with Scott K, host of The Church of Tarantino and Men of Action podcasts, to talk about Hobbs & Shaw! After talking about why Scott claimed Hobbs & Shaw months ago, we hear his (sort of unusual) rankings. We wind up comparing the franchise (and its characters) to Batman and Robin, Halloween III, and Charles Manson -- each of which inspires exciting possibilities for alternate realities. Scott promises to do some Kurt Russell recon for us then discusses what he loves about Hobbs & Shaw -- and where he wishes the movie ended. Joey comes up with a potential reason why Vin Diesel may be so serious in the later movies and wonders: were they trying to set up Eiza Gonzalez's character for a spinoff? We run through uses of slow motion in the Fast franchise. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. Happy Fastivus! We celebrate this holiday (named by @ReactionRocket) each year on June 22, which marks the anniversary of the original movie's release to theaters. This year is a monumental Fastivus, given that it's the 25th anniversary! We talk about the future of the franchise, which is brighter than it has been in years, with Fast Forever on the calendar, new TV series in the works, and maybe exciting new actors joining the franchise! After recapping past Hall of Fame inductees (apologies to Jordana Brewster for bad bookkeeping on this end), Joey reveals his ballot for the first time. We then reveal what fell off the ballot, what made it in, and hold the first-ever meeting of the Senior Committee. After we replenish the ballot for next year, we do a deep dive into Seinfeld x Fast and Furious crossover actors, where Joe demonstrates exceptional Seinfeld recall.
