Queen found themselves in trouble in late 1975. They had a terrible management contract they were desperate to get out of, they'd had to cancel a tour which was only booked to recoup money and they had spent over 40,000 pounds (equal to over $600,000 today) at seven different studios trying to make their 4th album, A Night At The Opera. If it wasn't a success the band might have folded up. But thanks to an unorthodox lead single that was not only bizarre but over six minutes long, the band found themselves on top of the world. The vocal harmonies that define the enduring sound of Queen are all over the album, even as the boys experimented with different instruments, recording techniques and their voices as well. You can't define the record with one genre as the epic The Prophet's Song is long and proggy while it melts into the sweet Love of My Life. Freddie attacks their ex manager in straight ahead Death on Two Legs and then quickly segues into the old-timey Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon. While John Deacon pens an ode to his wife with You're My Best Friend, Roger Taylor is proclaiming I'm in Love with My Car. In '39, Brian May takes us forward in time with astronauts in a bar sing-a-long style. But Bohemian Rhapsody with it's soulful piano to start followed by bombastic harmonies, so heavy Brian May guitar and head banging play out was the game changer. Bo Rap would eventually go number 1 and into the top ten around the world 3 times - when first released, around the time of Wayne's World (when your heroes were college roommates, and again after the movie of the same name was a worldwide success. It lifted Queen out of their financial woes and onto the world stage to a level at which they never really left. As this classic turns 50 November 22, we were happy to gain an appreciation for the band as a whole by examining an album only they could make. Today, we break down a truly remarkable session yesterday, with new local highs on the sentiment boost from Nvidia's strong earnings and guidance completely wiped out as the market was stung for a loss on the day and a massive tumble from the opening highs. This looks like a "tell" indicating profoundly weak sentiment. We question whether one of the angles is that the entire AI ecosystem faces both technical disruption and financial fragility based on faulty assumptions. We also look at the latest on macro and FX and note the horrible breakdown in crypto has been leading everything risk-related lower of late. Today's podcast is hosted by Saxo Global Head of Macro Strategy John J. Hardy. Links discussed on the podcast and our Chart of the Day can be found on the John J. Bryote Ugly & Piffcoast - A tale of Brothers, Gorilla Grows, Informing, Prison, & Hopeful RedemptionAs a camnabis history podcast, especially dealing with the legacy era, there are going to be some controversial shows. This is definitely one of them. Bryote lays out his thoughts on what occurred a decade ago with Piffcoast sitting there in front of him. It's awkward at moments, its hopeful at moments, and I'm pulling for him to come out ahead. Piffcoast has a lot of detractors - a lot of them were previously trying to get inside his o ring; most of them work with, or worship, other informants and/or people who threaten to snitch and drop paperwork. That's not a defense of Piffcoast, but an actual fact. Host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise to analyze Pitt's loss to Notre Dame and what it means for the Panthers' ACC title hopes. Was the ugly defeat a signal of how far Pat Narduzzi's program still has to go? Or will it perform better against conference competition? Can Mason Heintschel shake off the adversity as a freshman? And are Kyle Louis, Rasheem Biles and the Pitt front seven a threat to every team left on their schedule, including ranked Georgia Tech and Miami teams? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders Narduzzi going up against old rival James Franklin now that he's been hired as Virginia Tech's coach. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Send us a textFirst of all, massive apologies to our 17 loyal listeners who had to navigate their Thursday night workout without the benefit of a new episode to pump you up. David was hobnobbing among sweater-vesters so we had to push our recording back a day. But if you're a fan of hearing Dr Dave topic-hop like he's just snorted some cocaine, this 28 minutes will help you cap off your week. And since we decidedly prefer Pharell's HAPPY to his NEON GUTS, we can avoid bustin' a cap on someone. It's worthy of sharing an interview with Cairos Santos.

She's had her childhood photo used in an "ugly" meme that's all over the Internet. So why isn't host Clare Stephens upset about this dissing of her younger self? Also: "You called me, you speak first". Does Gen Z really answer the phone with... nothing? And, just literally do things. That's the message here to challenge the recent cultural domination of the 'overthinking introvert'. In all kinds of areas of your life, is it always better to underthink, jump fast and have a bias to action, like our self-help overlord Mel Robbins? And why is it easier for some people than others? In this episode, Zach Shaw and Alejandro Zuniga break down the Michigan football team's 24-22 win over Northwestern at Wrigley Field, and both the good and bad the Wolverines showed in the win. They open the episode with a look at the offense. They discuss Michigan's down-to-down success — including 496 yards of offense, 25 first downs and nine drives into Northwestern territory — but also the turnovers, missed field goals and other hiccups that made the game so close. They discuss the passing game's progress, the running back injury situation and Andrew Marsh's exceptional game. In the second half of the episode, they look at Michigan's defense. They deliberate on the room's successes, but also why the lack of sacks and big plays is concerning. They also discuss some soft spots in coverage, the special teams unit's continued struggles and how to look at Michigan at 8-2 on the season.
