Another foray into the world of the Brothers Grimm. This is a tale called Little Brother and Little Sister, or sometimes simple Brother and Sister. It is the story of two children who run away from their horrible stepmother into a forest, whereupon the brother is turned into a roebuck deer, which explains my artwork! It is a well known tale which I have adapted very slightly.Don't forget to leave me a review or just send me a message. A fun story this adapted from the tale from the Brothers Grimm, it tells the tale of the lad who couldn't feel fear and wanted to know what is was like. His father, his brother, others he meets, and even himself, think he is stupid. But beneath it all, he is quite a lot sharper than all of them.Don't forget to leave me a review of a rating if you like me. Cap O'Rushes & The Smallest Elfen

Two stories for you today! The main story is from English Fairy Tales, a book curated and edited by Joseph Jacobs, the man who brought us Jack and the Beanstalk and others.Cap O'Rushes (Cape of Rushes) is one of many tales that fits in the girl dances with prince and he falls in love with her - the most famous being Cinderella. This version is a little nicer (not chopped off toes!) and has a very sweet end.The second story is one of mine and it taken from my current massive "work in progress" - The Unicorns Tales. This is the story of The Smallest Elfen and the Big Fish, which is taken from Aelwen Jones and the Crystal Hand.I like this story, not just because I wrote it, but because it is a story for little children, and yet in my book is told by a teenage girl to her teenage friends. And I rather like the music wot I wrote for it!Don't forget to leave me a review of a rating if you like me. No one, anywhere in the world, knows as many stories as Ole Lukøje! And no one can tell them so well.Which is the first line of the story this week and a perfect introduction to this famous tale from Hans Christian Andersen. The story of the Sandman is an ancient tale and he has appeared in many guises. This is one of the better ones, perhaps.Don't forget that all these podcast tales come with transcripts. Kon’nichiwa! Ikaga o-sugoshi deshita ka. Hello! How have you been? This week, I have leapt several thousand miles that-a-way and landed in the forest of Japan for a famous and much-loved folk story. Shitakiri Suzume, or the Tongue-Cut Sparrow. The Japanese love this tale, and famously it has been turned into a dance, the suzume-odori, which is often performed in parades with set moves and fans. It isn’t a hard dance, but it looks like a lot of fun. This is my version of the story based on the one by Yei Theodora Ozaki. I have a different ending to hers to reflect a lot of other versions, plus a little twist of my own! Here are some links for you:Twitter: https://twitter.com/DITDFpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/deepinthedarkforest/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deepinthedarkforest/And the audiobook Lost in Tokyo by Garrett Wilson: https://cchogan.com/audiobooks/lost-in-tokyo/

I have two stories for you this week. The Little Match Girl is one of Hans Christian Andersen's most famous tales, but one he didn't think would be so popular. And it is a story that is still relevant in today's difficult world. Tissue required. But I start with one of my own - The Fox and the Dove which is taken from my yet unpublished series, the Unicorn Chronicles. It is a nice little parable with a reasonably happy ending!Don't forget to leave me a review wherever you heard the podcast, and follow me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook:https://twitter.com/DITDFpodcasthttps://www.instagram.com/deepinthedarkforest/https://www.facebook.com/deepinthedarkforest/

Not so much for the wolf, though.I have also added my version of a poem from Charles Perrault which he wrote as the moral at the end of his telling of the tale. Please let me know what you think, especially on Apple Podcasts. Here in the UK, Pantomime at Christmas is quite a big deal. It is when children and adults alike submit themselves to the loudest, cheesiest, most farcical musical comedies, laced through with puns, topical jokes, sarcasm, teasing, mischievousness, and built around a formula that is been with us for decades. They are a lot of fun, though I admit I tend to avoid them. And there is never a Panto season that doesn't have at least one performance of Cinderella. But there is a huge difference between the plot used for the pantos and the plot of the original. No fairy godmother to start with. So, this week, let me treat you to the original, plus, one of my own poems; the tale of two children becoming friends and hunting dragons.Don't forget to subscribe to my show on your favourite podcasting service, and sign up to my newsletter!Comment on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #deepinthedarkforest or on my Facebook page.More details on my website.
