On the western continent of Perpetua, four fated adventurers set out on a prophesied journey.  While to the east, in the Elevana League, a trio of travelers began to investigate a metaphysical sickness. What, if anything, connected these two groups? Who was powerful enough, invested enough, to watch each from above or below—besides you and I? Perhaps, if not for the impending stress of a familial reunion and the ever present struggle between one's responsibilities to their culture and to themselves, the brilliant, Terrapine inventor Jonathan would find the perspective necessary not simply to answer these questions, but to intuit that they exist at all. Yes, I think that if it were laid out for him, he would see the patterns by now, the etchings and the echoes.  But we… We have the perspective, the maps, the right roles: Storyteller and listener. And we have the chapters open in front of us: The Shadow of the Dragon Tower. The Flames of Burzin, Journey to the Bay. On Track to Iron Chains. Sizzling Rivalry. Crashing Waves. A Roar Across Cenn. Aquatic Ambush. In Too Deep. Indeed, those seven adventurers were themselves "in too deep" to know what was about to happen, to sense that there even were other heroes like themselves, whose stories carried a strange and powerful resonance. You will learn soon that they were not the only heroes across Perpetua's many cycles. And perhaps this will be part of a new map you can come to understand in time. A map which will raise a new question: Are these echoes part of a careful, yet uncanny balance in the cosmic play of our lives? Or a poetic rhyming that keeps existence itself aligned?  This week on Perpetua:  Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.058] Some Feedback [Page 29 of 30] CarlsSr Hey I have a question: Why does Jonathan's family suck so much @$$? XxZelgadyskXx Great question Carl! Nice to see you make a more substantive post!  I definitely understand why it might seem that some of his family isn't great, but I think they're just frustrated with how long he's been away. Even for a Terrapine, that many decades seems like a long time! It also seems like they're going through a little bit of a family crisis with how his mom is getting older and sicker. Maybe if we saw them in the old days, before he left, they'd be a little more likable! TheUnforgivenIII Yeah right, once an asshole, always an asshole. The truth is that Jonatahna is a bad ass who doesn't need his family. They can't make flaming guns out of thin air. They don't have a sick ride. All they do is hold a guy like him back. Plus their music f'ing SUCKS. Doom_Tree_Anne Wow Zelgadysk, do you ever do any RP on IRC? Sounds like you'd play a great Jonathan. XxZelgadyskXx No comment! But join the server, I'm sure some people would love to talk RP with you.  Alukard83 I think it's easy to get mad at a video game family that's been written to make you mad. Real family is tougher to deal with, because a lot of times you love the same people who really tick you off. That shit is tough! CarlsSr Yeah.  [Extra words added to reach minimum word count.] XxZelgadyskXx Do you think Jonathan's little sister feels the same way about him that you feel about your family, Unforgiven? TheUnforgivenIII I didn't say SHIT about my family, asshole. My dad is a kick ass bike mechanic and my mom used to be a rock station DJ. Way cooler than Jonathan's dumbass church family. In this episode of The Observatory Podcast, hosts Scott and LaRae Wright sit down with Bobby Ahlander for an expansive and deeply human conversation about suffering, healing, and what it means to truly come home to yourself. Bobby shares his journey growing up in a rigid religious environment marked by instability and fear, living much of his adult life on “autopilot,” and eventually reaching a breaking point that included leaving the Church, divorce, job loss, and a prolonged season of depression with suicidal ideation.Through therapy, psychiatry, EMDR, Buddhist study, and eventually plant medicine, Bobby describes the slow and nonlinear rebuilding of his inner world. He introduces a personal “numbers” framework that helped him track emotional states — from survival, to “fine,” to happiness, joy, bliss, and ultimately a state he later names cosmic union. At the heart of this conversation is the embodied realization that arrived not through force or fixing, but through surrender: peace feels good.Timestamps [01:10] Introducing Bobby Ahlander and the theme “peace feels good”[04:05] Childhood in a conservative religious home marked by instability[08:45] Learning invisibility, safety, and survival as a child[14:55] Living adulthood on “autopilot” and inherited identity scripts[20:15] Becoming a bishop and the weight of enforcing institutional rules[25:35] LGBTQ+ policy conflict and values colliding with authority[31:50] Leaving the Church, divorce, and relocation all at once[36:40] Wiping the slate clean and questioning every belief[41:05] First acts of autonomy and reclaiming personal choice[46:00] Discovering Buddhism and non-dual thinking[51:40] First psilocybin experience and expanded awareness[58:45] COVID, job loss, unhealthy relationship, and emotional collapse[01:05:40] Suicidal ideation and surviving for his children[01:12:30] Therapy, medication, and the “numbers” emotional scale[01:20:10] Ayahuasca: opening a door that never closes[01:27:30] Integration, healing, and learning to live at “fine”[01:33:40] Oregon coast turning point and happiness returning[01:38:10] Discovering joy, bliss, and something beyond the scale[01:41:00] Embodied peace, “peace feels good,” and what comes next[01:41:58] Closing message and listener invitationNotable Quotes“You have just opened a door that can never close again.” — Scott Webb (quoted by Bobby Ahlander) [00:36:08]“I don't want to die, but I don't want to be alive.” — Bobby Ahlander [00:31:58]“The whole choice to awake puts you on a path.” — Scott Wright [01:13:33]“So we honor you for being there and being able to express that.” — LaRae Wright [01:29:42]“The cost of the new is the old.” — Scott Wright [01:32:36]“Turbulence is just a reminder you're flying.” — Bobby Ahlander [01:34:42]“You will continue to suffer until you've learned the lesson that the suffering is trying to teach you.” — Bobby Ahlander [01:38:18]“This is peace.” — Bobby Ahlander [01:23:57]“Peace feels good.” — Bobby Ahlander [01:25:01]Relevant LinksBobby's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bobbyahlander/Subscribe to the podcast: Apple Podcasts

And for this one, the Munchies chose one for us to excoriate--S19E13 The Undiscovered Country, or Barba's ignominious exit.***Munchies' Choice***When we asked our listeners to select an episode for us to watch, we were asking for a choice as depraved and cruel as this, the episode that see beloved ADA Rafael Barba exit the show in ridiculous (and frankly, insulting) fashion. Hello to you listening in Shah Alam, Malaysia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The beginning of a New Year can feel daunting. All those plans to kick start, days to fill, resolutions to keep, and more to do! There's no shame in admitting feeling a wee bit wobbly-legged about going forward in the face of wide open frontiers.  What to do? Gain some courage by reversing your Bucket List. Instead of a list of what is yet to be done, what about a list of what you've accomplished from the littlest things that you felt made a difference to the biggest things you never thought you would achieve. You might begin by asking yourself:What made me proud? What have I learned? How did I transform my thinking about strangers to compassion and kindness?Who revealed the meaning of true love to me?Where did I find the hope and resilience to face whatever came my way? When did I feel most content or fulfilled? What would I do all over again just for the joy of it?What did I long for as a child?  What have I created or, at least, not destroyed?Who have I lifted up?How have I defined my life?  What dreams came true? And, which was I happy to leave by the wayside?  What or whom did I fight for and why? When did I take time to play?  In my experience the Reverse Bucket List invites us to pay attention to what we've done, won, gained, lost, learned and kept on living no matter what. It's proof that over and over again we have stepped outside our comfort zone to strive for something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for! Give it a go. Reverse your Bucket List and shine a light on you. You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Hello to you, Marilyn, listening in Hancock, New Hampshire!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington, this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey—this final day of the old year—and your host, Diane Wyzga.      Shoveling Snow With Buddha by Billy Collins"In the usual iconography of the temple or the local Wokyou would never see him doing such a thing, tossing the dry snow over the mountainof his bare, round shoulder, his hair tied in a knot,a model of concentration. Sitting is more his speed, if that is the wordfor what he does, or does not do. Even the season is wrong for him.In all his manifestations, is it not warm and slightly humid? Is this not implied by his serene expression, that smile so wide it wraps itself around the waist of the universe? But here we are, working our way down the driveway, one shovelful at a time.We toss the light powder into the clear air.We feel the cold mist on our faces. And with every heave we disappearand become lost to each otherin these sudden clouds of our own making, these fountain-bursts of snow. This is so much better than a sermon in church,I say out loud, but Buddha keeps on shoveling. This is the true religion, the religion of snow, and sunlight and winter geese barking in the sky,I say, but he is too busy to hear me. He has thrown himself into shoveling snowas if it were the purpose of existence,as if the sign of a perfect life were a clear drivewayone you could back the car down easilyand drive off into the vanities of the worldwith a broken heater fan and a song on the radio. All morning long we work side by side,me with my commentaryand he inside the generous pocket of his silence, until the hour is nearly noonand the snow is piled high all around us;then, I hear him speak. After this, he asks, can we go inside and play cards? Certainly, I reply, and I will heat some milkand bring cups of hot chocolate to the tablewhile you shuffle the deck, and our boots stand dripping by the door. Aaah, says the Buddha, lifting his eyesand leaning for a moment on his shovelbefore he drives the thin blade againdeep into the glittering white snow."My New Year wish for you: As the old year folds onto itself and the new year dawns I wish for you that your everyday activities, even the very simple tasks, bring humor, contemplation, and a sense of magic in the ordinary. May you find your way on the path following a compass heading of True North. May the love you seek wend its way to you. May you dream well, journey far, and be sustained in hope that what you're looking for is looking for you. You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" The Randomizer (episode.lol) spat out the final episode of the disastrous Michael Chernuchin Era, which meant the Munchie Boys were force-fed the final part of some serialized content. Of course, here, this means we have long-time series regulars acting entirely uncharacteristically, including characters we'd known for 20 years. Perhaps more importantly, this episode eschews all common sense, asking society to act insanely in addition to its characters. This episode brings a season to a close that almost killed the series, and it's bad enough that Adam and Josh have to ask if it shouldn't have been put down.Music:Divorcio Suave - “Munchy Business”Thanks to our gracious Munchies on Patreon: Jeremy S, Jaclyn O, Amy Z, Diana R, Tony B, Drew D, Nicky R, Stuart, Jacqi B, Natalie T, Robyn S, Amy A, Sean M, Jay S, Briley O, Suzanne B, Tim Y, John P, John W, Elia S, Rebecca B, Lily, Sarah L, Melsa A, Alyssa C, Johnathon M, Tiffany C, Brian B, Whitney C, Alex, Jannicke HS, Erin M, Florina C, Melissa H, Olivia, Holly F, Karina H, Zak B, Karyn R, Summer S, and Matt - y'all are the best!Be a Munchie, too! Hello to you listening in Suffolk, Virginia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more for an important story) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Each one of us - if we're determined - finds a way to compost the regrets, poor decisions, failures, shames and blames that are part and parcel of living life into something almost beyond description: personal transformation. My long time friend, podcasting colleague, disabled military vet, and avid hiker, Keith McNally, is a man finding his path to transformation. His goal? Thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail beginning on March 29, 2026, crossing 14 states on the East Coast and finishing 2,197 miles 5 months later. Some of the challenges include constant rough terrain with difficult footing, a series of steep grades, climbs and descents, as well as river crossings balanced on logs, extreme weather, insects, and rock scrambles using hands for climbing. The elevation profile of the AT over its length is akin to summiting Mount Everest from sea level and back approximately 16 times. So yes, physical fitness is a must to take on the AT; but it is mental fortitude and the ability to adapt to unforseen challenges that is key to finishing the hike.Keith's journey will be a test of perseverance, a tribute to the beauty of the natural world, and an opportunity for personal growth. Even more importantly, Keith is setting the groundwork for a non-profit foundation to help military veterans find their own Trails to Transformation. This first hike is just the beginning.  But here's something else. Keith is not walking alone. He has also been steadfastly training an indefatigable Aussie cattle dog he named Ashley after rescuing her from a shelter. Click HERE to watch a short video entitled:  Introduction to Ashley - Trail Partner and Training CompanionAs you can imagine, an expedition like this one does not come cheap. I know money is dear. And, here I am asking you to please reach deep into your pocket to give what you are able to Keith & Ashley's GoFundMe project. On the GoFundMe site you'll find all the details as well as a punch list of expenses so you can see where your contributions will go.    Click HERE to access Keith's GoFundMe, add what you can, and invite others to be part of the mission. Hello to you listening in Hannover, Germany!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.  Once upon a time long ago and far away there lived a farmer. His most treasured possession was a fine stallion. Oh my, said the neighbors: what good fortune to own such a fine horse! Perhaps, said the farmer. One night the stallion ran off in a storm. Oh no, said the neighbors, what a disaster to lose your horse! Perhaps, said the farmer. But after some time the stallion came back and following him a mare and a pony. Oh my, said the neighbors: what good fortune! You had no horses and now you have 3! Perhaps, said the farmer.        One day the farmer's son galloped off on the mare, hit the branch of a tree, fell to the ground, and badly broke his leg. Neighbors found him, carried him home and said, Oh no, what a disaster for your poor son. Perhaps, said the farmer. The son was in bed with his broken leg when a tribe from the north descended on the village. Every able-bodied man and boy went out to defend their homes and farms. Many died that day. But the farmer's son who could not fight —through no fault of his own— was spared. Oh my, said the neighbors, what good fortune your son was spared! Perhaps, said the farmer. And so the old ones say that just beneath good fortune crouches disaster but always perched above disaster one finds good fortune and it is impossible to know which is really which.Story Prompt: Life shows up in such integrated complexity, how can we know whether what happens is good or bad?  What about you? How do you know what's what? Write that story and share it out loud!    You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Mike and Chris dig into the uneasy moral terrain of The Storyteller, a 1977 NBC movie that turns television itself into the accused. Starring Martin Balsam as a celebrated writer blamed when a child's death echoes the plot of his work, the film wrestles with guilt, responsibility, and the limits of artistic intent. Written by Richard Levinson and William Link, this forgotten TV drama fits squarely in The Shabby Detective's wheelhouse: smart, talky, ethically thorny, and very much of its era—when network television wasn't afraid to put itself on trial.Watch the movie on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go0Yesa9m0QBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-shabby-detective-yet-another-columbo-podcast--5084441/support.

They also unpack a grounded reframe. Your hardest season might be a sign you are playing someone else's script, or it might be a core life lesson already baked into your path. Either way, clarity comes from learning your cards, spotting the energy pattern, and choosing your next micro-move on purpose. About the Guests: Alexander and Viki are the creators behind Source Cards, a system that uses the 52-card deck to help people identify personal patterns, soul lessons, and life themes based on birthdate. Their work supports high-performing individuals who want more alignment, self-acceptance, and clarity. Alexander is also the author of Play Your Cards Right. A Sacred Guide to Life on Earth. Key Takeaways The 52-card deck is used as a symbolic “hidden in plain sight” framework to reflect your birth card and a 13-card life path. Feeling “good on paper but off inside” can be a signal you are running unconscious patterns by default. Repeating cycles in love, money, health, career, or burnout often point to an upgrade your life is asking for. Knowing your “cards to play” can reduce comparison and self-judgment, and increase self-acceptance and empathy for others. The first micro-move is simple. Look up your birth card and personality card, then check if it resonates before going deeper. A hard season can mean you are struggling against your nature by following someone else's success script. A hard season can also be a core lesson in your life path, including challenge, Saturn, and Pluto themes tied to growth and shadow work. Authentic alignment can cost relationships that depend on you staying in an old role, and that discomfort can be part of the path. Weekly challenge. Pick one stuck area, write where the pattern repeated over 5 years, then ask what skill life is training in you. Clarity first, then choice. The goal is not fate. It's using insight to make better decisions. Warm, revealing and long overdue, this episode of "Mizzou Storytellers" shines a spotlight on one of the most influential people in Mizzou Athletics you don't see on the sidelines. Hosted by Loretta Jones, Dave Matter, and “Producer Steve" Sowers, the conversation with Sandy Matthew pulls back the curtain on two decades of leadership, loyalty and behind-the-scenes excellence. As the Senior Executive Administrative Assistant to the Director of Athletics, Sandy has served five athletic directors over 19 years, quietly becoming a constant through eras of change. In this episode, she shares how her journey to Mizzou began, what it really takes to support an athletics director at the highest level, and how college athletics—and her role within it—has evolved. Listeners gain a rare look at the operational heartbeat of the department, from navigating high-pressure game days to building trust across every sport and staff unit. The episode is equally personal. Sandy reflects on her Oklahoma roots, her recent adventure in Italy, life at home with her mom Ruth and dog Piper, and what Mizzou truly means to her. She's a gatekeeper, a trusted advisor and a steady presence through it all. More than anything, this episode makes clear why Sandy Matthew is considered the heart and soul of Mizzou Athletics — and why her story was one that needs to be told.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The rock and roll legend, Billy J. Kramer, grew up in Bootle, a Liverpool suburb.  Upon leaving school, he became a trainee engineer by day and aspiring singer by night, performing under the stage name Billy Kramer. Billy's performances at local rock clubs around Liverpool soon brought him to the attention of the one and only John Lennon.  John urged Brian Epstein to sign Billy to an exclusive management contract.  Billy jumped at the opportunity to become a full-time entertainer.  Soon after, Billy was summoned to Brian's office to find John there waiting for him with the suggestion that he add the “J” to his name to give it a “rock and roll edge”.  From that day forward, Billy has been known as Billy J. Kramer. In March of 1963, Billy was the first person to have a hit record with a Lennon-McCartney song, “Do You Want To Know A Secret,” which was written specially for him by John and Paul and produced by George Martin at Abbey Road Studios even before The Beatles recorded it.Billy toured extensively throughout the UK as the opening act for The Beatles both before and during Beatlemania.  Billy also headlined tours with such greats as Del Shannon, Gene Pitney, and The Everly Brothers.Billy's recordings of the Lennon-McCartney compositions, “Bad To Me” along with “I'll Keep You Satisfied”, “From A Window”, and “I Call Your Name” all became international million sellers.  He also had a smash hit with the Mort Shuman/John Leslie McFarland song, Little Children.  Released as a double sided single, Bad To Me and Little Children have the unique distinction of being the highest entry into the Billboard charts at #8.  That accomplishment has never been equalled.Billy's appearances on the Ed Sullivan show, Shindig, and Hullaballoo secured his place in rock ‘n roll history.  In 1964, Billy performed as part of the legendary T.A.M.I. show along with such artists as James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes , Smokey Robinson, The Rolling Stones and many others. To commemorate his 50th anniversary in the music business, Billy recorded and released new material entitled “I Won The Fight”.  Billy recently released his autobiography, “Do You Want To Know A Secret.”Billy continues to record, perform and promote his Storytellers show to international audiences. Please stick around at the end of the show for a really fantastic treat.  Billy has lent us his brand new Christmas song, “Christmas Kinda Feeling…”

Long before Santa slid down chimneys, other figures roamed the winter nights — and they weren't bringing presents. They were bringing punishment.IN THIS EPISODE: ‘Tis the season for not only reindeer, grinches and magical snowmen but also fearless children, negligent parents and dumb thieves. “Home Alone” may be the first Christmas movie that comes to mind upon hearing that description, but it turns out there's a long and storied tradition of true stories of children left alone around the holidays matching wits against would-be robbers. (Home Alone) *** What would you think if you received a Christmas card in the mail that had a picture of a dead bird on the cover? Not very festive, is it? But that's not what people believed in the past. For a while, a dead bird was synonymous with saying “Merry Christmas!” (Merry Christmas, Here's a Dead Bird) *** A woman leaves her family to go Christmas shopping at the last minute… and disappears forever. (Mom Vanishes While Christmas Shopping) *** Christmas fun isn't all about Santa, his reindeer, and a magical snowman come to life thanks to a hat. There are some downright terrifying yuletide monsters that might make you want to stay behind locked doors this year. Adam and Josh rolled the dice this week, and the dice gave them "Glasgowman's Wrath" (Season 16, Episode 6), which might be the only Halloween episode in the SVU catalogue. Who or what is a Glasgowman? Why is he wrathful? Is it GGG to act out a violent tawdry rape fantasy in a public space? How does any of this pertain to legendary plane crasher Sully Sullenberger? Hello to you listening in Jakarta, Indonesia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. As the old ones say, “If we are not grateful for what we have in this present moment, what makes us think we will be happy with more?”  Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't but long ago and far away there lived a man in a small country village. He had everything he had ever asked for: friends, livelihood, wife, family - and yet and yet something was stirring in him: Looking around he asked himself, Is this all there is? Perhaps I am meant for something more, something better. Perhaps I should go and seek my happiness outside the village. One summer morning he left his home, carefully closed the garden gate behind him and walked away. He walked for miles and miles until he could no longer see where he had been. Night fell and he found himself deep in a dark forest. Having no other shelter he took off his shoes, spread his coat on the ground, and fell asleep against the trunk of a tree for he was very tired.Watching him sleep his angel shook her head at the folly of his adventure. But what could she do? She could turn his shoes around facing them back in the direction from which he came. And so she did. When the man awoke he pulled on his coat, put his feet into his shoes and began to walk. After many miles of walking the man began to see familiar fields, a few farmhouses, a village - all looking very much like what he had left; but how could that be? People in the village market greeted him as if he was familiar to them; but how could that be? Arriving at a cottage with a garden gate he was startled to be greeted by children and a woman as if he were their long lost father and husband; but how could that be? They welcomed him inside, took off his shoes, sat him at a table very much like one he knew, fed him food that tasted like home; but how could that be?To this very day the man lives with that family in that home in that village and wonders, “If this isn't happiness, what is?”  As the old ones say, “If we are not grateful for what we have in this present moment, what makes us think we will be happy with more?”  You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! Healthy Mind, Healthy Life
Storytelling, Service, and Resilience for Mental Wellness with Paul Whitten

In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik sits down with Paul Whitten, a combat veteran and founder of Nashville Adventures, to talk about mental health, identity after military service, and how storytelling becomes real-world therapy. Paul breaks down how getting out of an “echo chamber” of pain. Through community, purpose, and structured routines. Helped him move through injury, survivor's guilt, and burnout. They also go deep on bootstrapped entrepreneurship, why service-based businesses fight harder for visibility, and how learning the basics of ROI, marketing, and leadership can protect your mental wellness while scaling. If you are dealing with burnout, trauma, or feeling stuck in survival mode. This conversation gives a practical roadmap: small acts of service, honest storytelling, and habits that actually hold when life gets chaotic. About the Guest: Paul Whitten is a combat veteran, returned Peace Corps volunteer, former UK Parliamentary Fellow, and the founder of Nashville Adventures, a veteran-owned walking tour company known for immersive storytelling and historical accuracy. His work centers community impact, including giving back to veteran-related causes, and building a business culture shaped by lessons from both great and terrible leadership. Key Takeaways: Storytelling can be a mental health tool. It pulls you out of rumination and into meaning after trauma or burnout. If you are stuck in an echo chamber of pain. Change the room. Volunteer, teach, guide, or join a community that meets you with a blank slate. Routines beat “mindset hacks”. Paul rebuilt momentum through physical therapy, museum tours, then consistent learning. Service is a bridge out of isolation. Giving respect and appreciation often brings it back, which steadies your nervous system. Bootstrapping is stressful. But naive optimism helps you start before fear talks you out of it. Entrepreneurship is priorities and ROI. Learn the basics. P&L, balance sheet, marketing fundamentals. Knowledge compounds fast. Learn from bad leadership too. Paul used painful corporate lessons to build a healthier culture and customer experience. Keep work fun enough to sustain. If it feels like a toxic job, burnout shows up fast. Grinding is the differentiator. Not IQ, not credentials. Consistency turns skeptics into competitors. Micro challenge. Write one tough chapter in 10 minutes, share one honest piece with someone you trust, do one small act of service this month. Self-Care for a Stronger Business Exit with Eric D. Coonrod

On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Sayan sits down with Eric D. Coonrod, a boutique investment banker, to unpack the entrepreneurial mindset behind scaling a company and selling it without burning out. This episode gets real about why exits can feel like an identity shock, how deal stress quietly tanks decision quality, and why psychological readiness should be treated like a core KPI alongside valuation. Eric breaks down exit paths like full sale vs majority recap, then shares practical ways founders can protect sleep, health, and relationships while navigating diligence, negotiation, and team communication. About the Guest: Eric D. Coonrod is a 20-year investment banking veteran involved in 100+ transactions across healthcare, food and beverage, VMS, and sports. He is the founder of E. Coonrod and Company, LLC, advising founders on deals, debt, and capital raises with a full-stack approach that includes tax, communications, and personal health awareness. Key Takeaways: Selling a business can hit harder emotionally than founders expect because the company often becomes their identity. A big exit check does not automatically fix burnout. It can even amplify it if you have no plan post-deal. Prep for the exit should include psychological readiness, not just financial readiness and deal structure. Consider exit options early. A majority recap can reduce admin burden while keeping you close to the work you actually love. Neglecting self-care during a sale increases poor decisions. Deal fatigue is real and it kills outcomes. The sale process adds major weekly workload on top of running operations. Protect your health to protect judgment. Keep a non-negotiable wellness anchor. Training, walking, or family time keeps mental clarity stable under pressure. Employees fear layoffs and culture shifts. Timing and messaging matter, so disclose only when the deal is mature. Coach the transition narrative with the buyer. Clear reassurance reduces churn and stabilizes performance pre-close. Post-exit peace requires an actual plan. Define what you will do in the first 6 months and what comes after. Long before Dickens penned A Christmas Carol, our ancestors gathered around midwinter fires to tell tales of spirits and monsters lurking in the darkness. Tonight, we explore why Christmas and ghost stories have been intertwined for thousands of years — then share true accounts that prove the tradition is very much alive. #HolidayHorrorsIN THIS EPISODE: Earlier this month I shared some true reports of people seeing Kris Kringle – or what appeared to be Kris Kringle – in real life. But there are many more of those strange sightings to share! (More Real Santa Sightings) *** Christmas has been celebrated for centuries, and gift-giving has been around in America since well before the Civil War. But how we celebrate and what we give changes depending on the time. We'll take a look at what Christmas was like for American pioneers in the 1800s. (Christmas in The Old West) *** At a Christmas party the revelers heard a horrifying scream from outside. They rushed out to hear the screams were coming from the sky, at least above the rooftops. But how could that be? It was then that they learned Oliver Lerch had disappeared – never to be seen again. (The Christmas Disappearance of Oliver Lerch) *** Nothing says Christmas like a poisonous weed! Well… you explain mistletoe! We'll look at why we're supposed to kiss under this deadly plant during the holidays. (A Kiss Under the Mistletoe) *** A horrible fire breaks out at an Oklahoma school during the holidays of 1924 – and the ghosts of the children still linger at the site. (Ghosts of the Babbs Switch School Christmas Fire) *** You might be celebrating Christmas like a viking and not even realize it. From the holiday ham to the evergreen in your living room, we'll look at how the pagan celebration of Yule influenced modern Christmas traditions. (How To Celebrate Christmas Like a Viking) *** Kids in America anxiously await the arrival of Santa Claus bounding down the chimney with gifts and candy for the good little boys and girls. But that's America. What comes down the chimney of Irish and Scottish kids may not be so jolly, plump, and loving. Some Gaelic children have to watch out for the Bodach. (Beware the Bodach at Christmas) *** It's something we're trying to revive here on Weird Darkness… the lost tradition of telling ghost stories at Christmas. It was Christmastime — a season of peace, light, and goodwill — which made the slow unraveling of their minds all the more disturbing.IN THIS EPISODE: Despite being in the middle of the first World War, on Christmas Day, 1914 British and German soldiers sang carols together, exchanged gifts with the enemy combatants, and supposedly even played a soccer game against each other in order to celebrate the holiday. (The Great War's Christmas Truce) *** The case was so mysterious it was even featured on TV's “Unsolved Mysteries” and “America's Most Wanted”: who committed the Christmas murder of Latricia White? And what happened to Lee and Chance Wackerhagen? (An Unsolved Christmas Murder Mystery) *** We're so used to seeing old St. Nick showing up with a big bag of toys for the kiddies – but what if he arrived with another bag full of switches for your parents to use the whole year through if you were on his naughty list? We'll look back at when Santa wasn't purely jolly and jovial, and when he arrived to dole out both presents and punishment! (Santa's Naughty List) *** The Los Feliz murder mansion became the site of a horrifying and sad Christmas tragedy for one California family. (Christmas At The Los Feliz Murder Mansion) *** A haunting holiday mystery took place in England in 1916 when a young bride simply disappeared without a trace. (The Vanishing Christmas Bride) *** A man tries to take on supernatural forces – and ends up as an undead creature who appears as a terrifying Yuletide spirit. Hollywood says Krampus is an ancient Christmas demon with roots in pagan mythology — but there's no evidence any of that is true. The real story of how this monster came to be is stranger than any legend. #HolidayHorrorsIN THIS EPISODE: We're all familiar with the poem “A Visit From St. Nicholas” – better known as, “Twas The Night Before Christmas”. But while we know the poem, we can't be quite as sure about who wrote it. (The Christmas Poem That Started a Feud) *** One of the great (and now, sadly, lapsed) Christmas traditions is the telling of ghost stories. On one particular year, a British teenager took this pastime to a whole other level. He didn't read about a Christmas Eve haunting. He experienced one. (The Phantom Choir of St. Albans) *** The past few years have made Krampus, the Christmas devil, a star of the big screen. But have you noticed that every version of him is different than the others? This may of course be in part to creative license, but it might have just as much if not more to do with the fact that none of the filmmakers had any idea of just what Krampus truly is, what he is all about, and how terrifying he can be. (Krampus, The Christmas Monster) *** Disaster strikes a small Illinois town on Christmas Eve, stripping away all that was merry and bright for the families who lived there.
