    Stories From Women Who Walk

Hello to you listening in Olympia, Washington! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. I am a storyteller of the old school. What do I mean? For over 30 years I've taught (and continue to teach) my clients and students the same thing: “Put down the paper and nobody gets hurt!” Why? Because storytellers have something to say that comes from their aliveness, which is what people most want to feel and connect with. Sharing our stories out loud brings them to light and life, and  encourages us to do what most folks fear more than snakes: stand up and speak up in public.   Story spoken aloud is what we leave of ourselves in another person. A story is an intimate lasting legacy, a permanent inheritance much like a vow or an oath. When we share our stories out loud, we connect with each other, we belong to each other. We might not realize it but we are creating a verbal promise, a vow, an oath of belonging. Think about how many times we've heard  someone say, "Repeat after me: I solemnly swear..." Marrying couples pledge faithfulness through the challenges and joys of marriage. Lawyers uphold the law, maintain client confidentiality, and act as an officer of the court. Doctors focus on ethics, patient care and societal responsibilities. Politicians preserve and defend the Constitution. US military support and defend the Constitution against all enemies. Immigrants becoming US citizens swear the Oath of Allegiance to the United States during a formal naturalization ceremony. From the time we are children in school we recite The Pledge of Allegiance, a patriotic promise of loyalty to the United States flag and the republic for which it stands. What happens when we share our stories out loud? They become real. We say what we mean, we mean what we say. We—and those hearing us—know what we stand for and what we won't stand for. Yes, you might write a story but it needs to be shared out loud to enrich and include the wider world. That's the legacy of the stories we leave in those who have heard them spoken aloud. Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com    What do you want for your kids? Happiness? Great life? Money? Health?    Proverbs 24:16 For a righteous person falls seven times and rises again,   Rising After the Fall: The Resilience of the Righteous Scripture: “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.”(Proverbs 24:16)   1. The Reality of the Fall - the gun will go off, someone will get shot The first thing we notice in this verse is a sobering honesty: the righteous fall. Many people operate under the misconception that a life of faith is a life of perfection or a shield against gravity. But Solomon doesn't say the righteous might fall; he says they fall "seven times." In biblical terms, the number seven often represents completeness. This suggests that the righteous will face complete, repeated, and sometimes exhausting setbacks. The Fall is not a Failure of Faith: Falling is simply part of the human condition. Whether it is a moral lapse, a financial collapse, or an emotional breakdown, being "righteous" does not mean being “bulletproof." I love Mauy Thai because you get kicked and punched and elbowed and kneed and that is the real world… most people don't like to fight because they don't want to feel pain… but once you get over that you become deadly.  2. The Definition of Righteousness If both the righteous and the wicked face "calamity," what is the difference between them? The difference isn't found in the descent, but in the response. The Wicked: When they stumble, they stay down. Their foundation is built on circumstances, so when circumstances crumble, they are undone. The Righteous: Their righteousness isn't based on their ability to stand perfectly; it's based on their relationship with the One who pulls them back up. Righteousness is a matter of orientation, not just performance. 3. The Grace of the "Again" The power of this verse lies in two words: "rise again." This is the theology of the second chance (and the third, and the seventh). God is more interested in your recovery than your stumble. The "rising" is an act of grit fueled by grace. It implies that as long as there is breath in your lungs, the story isn't over. "Failure is not the opposite of success; it is a stepping stone to it. In the Kingdom of God, failure is often the classroom where we learn the most about God's strength and our own weakness."   Application: How Do We Rise? Acknowledge the Fall: Don't waste energy pretending you didn't trip. Honesty is the first step toward upward mobility. Reject the Label: You may have fallen, but you are not "a failure." You are still "the righteous" because of whose you are. Lean on the Lifter: We don't rise by our own bootstraps. We rise because we serve a God who reaches down into the pit. Conclusion: If you find yourself on the ground today—spiritually, mentally, or professionally—take heart. The "seven times" you've fallen are not a tally of your defeat, but a setup for your next rising. Dust yourself off; your Storyteller isn't done writing yet.   Would you like me to expand on this with some specific modern-day illustrations or perhaps draft a concluding prayer to go with it

Hello to you listening in Spokane, Washington! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Christopher Armitage writing The Existentialist Republic on Substack posted an article entitled Democrats Can Launch Criminal Investigations into DOGE, Today. According to Armitage dozens of state investigations have the power to bring criminal actions to hold Musk/DOGE accountable for pirating private Social Security Administration (SSA) data and releasing it to third parties. Click HERE to read the article and get ready to take steps to e-mail your County Prosecutor, Governor and Attorney General.     Following are three email templates you can use if you live in the Great State of Washington. For all other states, please check the Substack article comments to find yours. If you don't see your state, comment in the post to receive your state's relevant statutes and templates to email. Thank you for listening and taking action wherever your feet touch the ground! Email 1: To your Washington State County Prosecutor Dear, I'm writing to request that your office refer a matter to Attorney General Nick Brown for criminal investigation under RCW 43.10.232. In a January 16, 2026 court filing in AFSCME v. Social Security Administration (D. Md., No. 1:25-cv-00596), the U.S. Department of Justice admitted that employees of the Department of Government Efficiency, while embedded at the Social Security Administration, transferred agency data to an unauthorized third-party server called Cloudflare outside all SSA security protocols. The SSA has confirmed it cannot determine what data was shared or whether it still exists on that server. A DOGE team member also sent an encrypted file believed to contain the names and addresses of roughly 1,000 people to the Department of Homeland Security and DOGE leadership, and the SSA has been unable to access the file to verify its contents. The filing further revealed that a DOGE employee signed a "Voter Data Agreement" with a political advocacy group seeking to match Social Security records against state voter rolls to overturn election results in certain states. The SSA made two Hatch Act referrals to the Office of Special Counsel as a result. Separately, NPR has reported that DOGE engineer Aram Moghaddassi contacted the Florida governor's office about state voter data while working simultaneously at SSA and DHS, and that a DOGE associate publicly claimed to have matched SSA data against voter rolls at a political rally. SSA records include the personal information of Washington residents in [your county]. This conduct may constitute violations of Washington's identity theft statute (RCW 9.35.020) and the Washington Cybercrime Act (RCW 9A.90). Federal officials do not have blanket immunity from state criminal prosecution when they exceed the scope of their authorized duties. I'm asking you to refer this matter to Attorney General Brown so his Criminal Justice Division can investigate whether Washington residents were victims of state crimes. The AG's office has confirmed it needs a referral from a county prosecutor or the governor to act. You have the authority to open that door. Thank you for your time and your service to our community. Sincerely, [Your Name] [Your Address] Email 2: To the Washington State Governor Ferguson Dear Governor Ferguson, I'm writing to request that your office refer a matter to Attorney General Nick Brown for criminal investigation under RCW 43.10.232. Separately, NPR has reported that a DOGE engineer contacted the Florida governor's office about state voter data while working simultaneously at SSA and DHS, and that a DOGE associate publicly claimed to have matched SSA data against voter rolls at a political rally. These actions may constitute violations of Washington's identity theft statute (RCW 9.35.020) and the Washington Cybercrime Act (RCW 9A.90). The personal information of millions of Washington residents is contained in SSA records. Federal officials do not have blanket immunity from state criminal prosecution when they exceed the scope of their authorized duties, and a state conviction cannot be erased by a presidential pardon. The Attorney General's office has confirmed it requires a referral from a county prosecutor or the governor to investigate and prosecute criminal matters. I'm asking you to make that referral so Attorney General Brown can determine whether Washington residents were victims of state crimes. Thank you for your leadership. Sincerely, [Your Name] [Your Address] Email 3: To the Washington State Attorney General's Office The Honorable Nick Brown, I understand that the Washington Attorney General's office requires a referral from a county prosecutor or the governor to investigate and prosecute criminal matters. Toward that end I've written to both my [insert your county's name]  County prosecutor [insert the prosecutor's name] and Governor Ferguson requesting that they make such a referral. Specifically, I've asked them to refer the matter of DOGE employees' handling of Social Security Administration data, as described in the January 2026 DOJ court filing and subsequent reporting, for investigation under Washington's identity theft statute (RCW 9.35.020) and the Washington Cybercrime Act (RCW 9A.90). I wanted your office to be aware that this request is coming, and I hope Attorney General Brown will be prepared to act when the referral arrives. In this message, The Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19–31), Jesus tells a sobering parable about wealth, compassion, and eternity. The story confronts us with a challenging truth: judgment comes not only from the wrong things we do, but from the right things we refuse to do. The rich man isn't condemned for cruelty, but for indifference—ignoring the suffering at his gate while living in comfort. Lazarus, though poor and overlooked in life, is honored in eternity. Jesus reminds us that blessings are not proof of God's approval, and suffering is not proof of His absence.

Many well-intentioned writers don't set out to create propaganda—but when a message matters more than reality, story becomes an instrument of persuasion instead of investigation.Using examples from The Dark Knight and a manuscript case study, this episode examines:The difference between moral clarity and moral coercionWhy forcing a moral weakens your storyHow propaganda enters narrative craftWhy antagonists must make sense to themselvesThe five commitments of truthful storytellingIf you are a novelist, screenwriter, playwright, or serious storyteller wrestling with theme, message, and responsibility in your work, this conversation will challenge and strengthen your approach to character, conflict, and narrative integrity.Story is powerful. And power requires restraint.

Hello to you listening in Samish, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Imagine this: a storyteller in a room full of litigators. No! Not alligators - litigators. Trial attorneys who are curious about learning the tools to engage with their own narrative so that they could connect to the stories of their plaintiff clients - not as lawyers but as people. Once they know how to access their own stories they can engage the experiences of the jury, find common ground with the plaintiff's story and, be well on their way to winning the trial.Over 30 years my clients have learned that before you tell someone else's story be very clear about your own. Do the hard work of an archeological dig on your narrative. Once we understand how our narrative shapes and re-shapes our life, our purpose, the relationships we have with others we are well on our way to knowing what we stand for, what we won't stand for, and how we can be of service. Our story can become one of advocacy, leadership, and healing. Our story can shift attitudes, behaviors, even cultures.CURIOUS TO LEARN MORE? https://monteschulzauthor.comBio - Acclaimed novelist Monte Schulz, son of Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, joins the show to discuss Undercity, a genre-blending fantasy-sci-fi thriller set in a hidden underground civilization. In this uncannily prescient novel eerily relevant to our contemporary political moment, Undercity unfolds across 16 interconnected vignettes, as Schulz charts the lives of two dozen characters desperately trying to survive and retain their humanity in a civil order that has tumbled into totalitarianism. Building on the world Schulz created in his highly successful book Metropolis, Undercity collects the voices of brave survivors, of those who've refused to submit to the indignities of eugenical persecution, the horror of gas chambers, and relentless warfare in rural provinces. Some of these stories demonstrate the moral disaster of eugenics, while others tell of courage and love and that indomitable magic of the human spirit that refuses to be silenced in the face of unspeakable crimes.  This sweeping tale is a warning to us, as well, that what we might think is unimaginable needs only apathy and inattention to arise. Praise for Metropolis "Eloquent, engaging, thoughtful and thought-provoking, Metropolis showcases author Monte Schulz's impressive skills as a novelist and storyteller. A modern masterpiece of literary fiction..." ― Midwest Book Review Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

EPISODE 677 - Peter Cotton - Tales from Frank the Snake for Children from a Doctor, Grandfather and StorytellerPeter Cotton is a retired physician living on Dewees Island in South Carolina, writing fun books for young children about Fred the lovable snake and his friends.Peter grew up in England where the first tale was conceived long ago as a bedtime story for his then young children about how (not) to cross the road. When they had their kids, they asked what happened to “Fred-Fred”. Peter teamed up with a special illustrator (Canadian Bonnie Lemaire) and published the first book “When Fred the Snake got Squished and Mended”.Together they now have a series of nine popular award-winning books, having fun in rhyme with Jungle Jim, Perdy and Jack and several animal friends. They go to school, welcome Jungle Jim, try camping, visit the beach, tour Charleston and recently have been exploring the sights of USA. Peter's books have received numerous 5-star reviews (“move over Lewis Carroll”) and 5 Mom's Choice gold awards. Peter enjoys presenting Fred at schools. When not busy with Fred's adventures, Peter travels widely to lecture, to enjoy his family, and to play golf. He reflected on life, and on his career as a Professor of Medicine/ Gastroenterology, in his memoirs “The Tunnel at the End of the Light”.Peter says that he was not named after a rabbit. The English author Beatrix Potter wrote about Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy, Benjamin bunny and Cottontail. Peter Cottontail is a shortened American invention.https://petercottontales.com/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca

Walking deep in the woods of the island's old growth forests a stillness beckons me to stop and listen deeply. The stillness asks if I can hear the immense power and depth of silence. I am reminded that all sounds arise from silence and fade back into silence. When we take the time to stop and experience silence we calm our mind, still the crazy chatter, breathe more deeply. Allow stillness. Stay with silence as long as you can. Tune in to your intuition, see clearly, hear your heartbeat, feel the blood coursing in your fingertips, and sense the steadiness of your breath coming and going easily. Remind yourself that we are alive and connected to all beings.Question: How does it feel to seek a bit of refuge in the stillness of the present moment? This week, The Munchie Boys tackle a Finisode preoccupied with unpacking Fin's history while an undercover with Narcotics, more than a decade after the fact. Rollins gets improbably shot, which leads to an unhealthy dose of police brutallity and metaphorical prison rape threats, but that's not nearly as shocking as some truly disturbing home-decor-driven revelations upon meeting a seemingly normal family with a secret left unspoken.Alexandra Eames also pops up in this episode, which means there's a little bit of Criminal Intent's history to deal with, and there are a ton of guest stars with SUPER WEIRD backgrounds which lead us to speaking about whether bands could have been around to have songs on the Iron Eagles II soundtrack, bathing beauty contests, Carmelo Anthony's very public and extremely inconsiderate birthday present to his wife, and another truly wild IMDb self-penned biography. We welcome to the Warrior Community Anouk Pappers, Brand Anthropologist and Online Presence Architect. She has published over 15 books, bringing interviews from around the globe to life, and discovered an opportunity to shine light on leaders who were outside of the spotlight. She created a platform, Signitt, to focus on the needs of business and social leaders to define their personal brand, craft their narrative, and build their online presence. Anouk shares her playbook with us, giving us the tools and powerful stories that we will find value in and some might even resonate with our own experiences.  In 2002 Anouk started a storytelling expedition: Around the World in 80 Brands. The goal was to support brands and companies convey their message through storytelling. She traveled the world in search of brands with a purpose and people with a vision. Having started CoolBrands in Amsterdam, she later expanded to Dubai, São Paulo, and New York, working with companies such as PepsiCo, Apple, Google, Mercedes, Harley Davidson, and Unilever. She has interviewed over 900 CEOs, CMOs, and business leaders across the globe and published 15 books chronicling their stories.  In 2015, Anouk founded Signitt to focus on the needs of business and social leaders to define their personal brand, craft their narrative, and build their online presence. Drawing on her global experience and insights, Anouk has seen first-hand how clarity of brand and story can transform careers. She has dedicated much of her work to supporting leaders better position themselves for the future and “use Google as their wing(wo)man.”  A sought-after, engaging speaker, she shares practical insights and tactics to help individuals take control of their narrative and grow their visibility in a digital-first world.(3:23) Anouk shares her own story with our community, how she started working with entrepreneurs to give them a platform to share their own stories.  (6:22) What does the word branding mean to Anouk and the work she does?  (11:17) How has storytelling evolved, both professionally and personally, over the years?   (13:10) Anouk shares an experience in her own life, that was sparked her journey of curiosity and learning about other people, cultures and their experiences.  (15:50) Anouk shares how she sparks some of that same curiosity in the people that she works with.  (18:40) How does Anouk work with others to help them begin storytelling for themselves, sharing their own experiences.  (20:27) How is authentic storytelling holding up in our world, often addicted to optimization, AI and digital “noise”?  (24:21) What does Anouk notice, in her work, that helps people to accept and move through the transformational work that she does?  (30:06) What part of her story that Anouk rarely shares, but that has shaped her the most?  (32:17) What does Anouk want to make sure resonates and can be actionable for our WAW community?  (35:48) Anouk shares some steps on creating your own story.  (38:10) What is next for Anouk?  What mark does she want to leave on the world?Connect with Anouk Pappershttps://www.linkedin.com/in/anoukpappers/    Subscribe: Warriors At Work PodcastsWebsite: https://jeaniecoomber.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/986666321719033/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeanie_coomber/Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeanie_coomberLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeanie-coomber-90973b4/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbMZ2HyNNyPoeCSqKClBC_w

This week on Not Your Granny's Quilt Show, my guest is Ian Danger Capstick, host of the Art Against Empire podcast, quilter, and former political pundit.Like many of us in the fiber arts world, Ian's introduction to making began in his grandmother's craft cupboard. He learned cross stitch and rug hooking, and put it all away as an adult while he worked in Canadian politics. He famously brought his cross stitching with him to work in the meantime of appearing as a political pundit on Canadian television. It was not until the 2020 lockdowns that Ian fully dove into quilting. As his quilting skills grew alongside major shifts in his professional life, Ian created a quilted banner as part of his capstone project for the horticulture degree he completed during lockdown. That project opened the door to a deeper exploration of banners, textiles, and the long history of fabric as both a cultural and political tool. Quilted banners became a focal point as Ian studied the origins of textile traditions and the ways fabric has been politicized, controlled, and reclaimed.Through Art Against Empire, Ian examines how textile art has been used across time as a form of power, resistance, and reform. He speaks with artists from around the world, guiding listeners through the global landscape of fiber and textiles. When people reclaim mastery of textiles, Ian believes, it becomes an act of resistance and a path toward freedom.Ian is also doing powerful work at The NOOK alongside Zak Foster and others, creating spaces that invite thoughtful conversations, including the uncomfortable ones.To learn more about Ian, follow him on Instagram at quiltqueerly, visit iancapstick.net, and be sure to listen to the available episodes of Art Against Empire. This week on MoneyFM 89.3’s Saturday Sit‑Down on the Saturday Mornings Show host Glenn van Zutphen and co-host Neil Humphreys speak with the trio behind one of Singapore’s most influential storytelling powerhouses: Peh Shing Huei, Aaron Low, and Sue‑Ann Chia, co‑founders of Nutgraf. What began in 2015 as a small “writers‑for‑hire” outfit run by three former Straits Times journalists has grown into an award‑winning strategic content agency trusted with some of Singapore’s most significant political biographies—including the two‑volume autobiography of former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, Neither Civil Nor Servant: The Philip Yeo Story, and a long list of national‑level publications. The founders share how a simple business model—just the three of them writing everything themselves—evolved into a 23‑person agency producing videos, social media campaigns, strategic communications, and thought‑leadership content. Along the way, Nutgraf became the go‑to team for capturing complex policy stories, institutional histories, and the personal journeys of Singapore’s political heavyweights. We explore how they earned the trust to tell these stories, what it takes to write about leaders who shaped the nation, and how content consumption has changed over the past decade. On the latest episode of "Mizzou Storytellers,” Dave Matter, Loretta Jones and Steve Sowers sit down with former Mizzou offensive coordinator Dave Christensen for a wide-ranging, deeply personal conversation that traces his journey from growing up in Everett, Washington, to calling plays for Brad Smith and Chase Daniel during Mizzou's rise in the 2000s. Christensen reflects on the early grind of coaching, his long partnership with Gary Pinkel, and the pivotal decisions that reshaped Mizzou's no-huddle spread offense and culminated in the unforgettable 2007 season. He also opens up about becoming a head coach at Wyoming, the lessons learned from four decades in the game, and why he couldn't resist coaching overseas. Christensen discusses his new book, Your Fourth Down, and how its leadership lessons are rooted not just in football, but in life — including the childhood tragedy of losing his older brother, and how that experience reshaped his perspective on resilience, purpose, and what truly matters. From bowl game memories and family life on the road, to leadership, legacy and debate over fourth-and-goal with Brad or Chase — this episode delivers stories, insight and perspective from one of the most influential architects in modern Mizzou football.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Obviously. Was there a heavily featured banana in a butt? Yes there was.
