Memories of J.C. Holdway from his sister, Juanita Holdway Evans; Chef Joseph Lenn; and her daughter, Emily Lenn. Fred Saucepan shares Joe and Janette Carter's Chow Chow recipe and kitchen memories. Today, I went to the deep freeze and pulled out a recording that I made in 2016 with Chef Joseph Lenn, Joseph's mother (Emily Lenn), and a late friend of mine, Juanita Evans, who was Joseph Lenn's grandmother and the sister of J.C. Holdway. J.C. Holdway is the namesake of the downtown Knoxville restaurant created by Chef Joseph Lenn and named after his Uncle Joe. The restaurant, J.C. Holdway, has been in the news lately, receiving the prestigious designation of “Recommended” by the renowned Michelin Guide in its inaugural regional publication of restaurants in the Southeast.
Chef Lenn is also a James Beard Award–winning chef. I thought it would be a great time to play this recording we made together before he opened his restaurant. I am an artist, and I wanted to paint a portrait of Uncle Joe as a kind of encouraging gift to Chef Lenn before the restaurant was created. You may have seen that painting, along with my portraits of Allan Benton, Eugenia Duke, Bill Best, and John Coykendall at J.C. Holdway. We also hear a recording by Fred Saucepan with memories from Janette and Joe Carter (children of A.P. and Sara Carter of the original band The Carter Family) as he shares their recipe for Chow Chow. And I share news of the Resilient Farmer Fund fundraiser concert tonight (Nov. 15, 2025) at the Paramount Theatre in Bristol, TN/VA. Doors open at 6, and music starts at 7 p.m.

For over two decades, Anna Logue Records has been a beacon for those who understand that the early 1980s represented a golden age of electronic music – a brief, brilliant window when artists armed with synthesisers, drum machines, and raw creative vision crafted something genuinely revolutionary. Founded in 2005 by a collector-turned-curator who spent the mid-90s buried in the minimal synth scene, swapping tapes and haunting eBay for privately pressed 7″s and forgotten cassettes, the label emerged from a simple desire to rescue and celebrate the melancholic yet melodic treasures that deserved far better than wanton abandonment and obscurity. We're happy to admit our ignorance of the label until being alerted via the reissue of Join The Car Crash Set. But having been turned on via that channel we delved deeper… a lot deeper. 0000428969_100 What began with Camera Obscura's debut vinyl LP (through three problematic pressing rounds) has blossomed into a catalogue that honours both the artists of yesteryear and into the contemporary that are keeping the analogue flame alive. The label's ethos is refreshingly purist – this is music made before the digital age smoothed off all those beautifully rough edges and that bleakness when electronics were raw and honest. Anna Logue Records isn't part of the ‘music industry' – it exists in deliberate opposition to it. Non-exclusive agreements respecting artists' autonomy, every release is treated as art or memorabilia rather than product, lovingly designed with original band materials, lyrics, photos, and the meticulous attention of someone who still remembers receiving multiple parcels a day in pursuit of the perfect sound. Sister label Nadanna (a playful portmanteau of founders “Mr. Nader” and “Mr. Anna”) extends the mission into contemporary territory, releasing danceable works that blur the lines between minimal synth, Italo disco, and Electropop. Together, they form a small but vital operation – self-financing, fiercely independent, and still run by that same collector was too busy discovering bottomless pits of forgotten electronic to pay too much attention at college. The mix you're about to hear traces the label's journey in reverse, alternating between Anna Logue and Nadanna releases, from timeless classics like League of Nations' “Fade” to previews of what's next. It includes what the label's founder calls “the perfect electronic pop song” (Blipblop's “Ögat som ser”), features a performance from Rational Youth's Tracy Howe on Techniques Berlin's “Cold War”, and closes with the achingly beautiful “Zara In The Stars” – written by Quieter Than Spiders' Leon Zhang in memory of a beloved dog at a sanctuary, a reminder that these endeavours carry real meaning beyond the music. Twenty years in, with projects like Delayscape's double album and new Twins Natalia material still in the pipeline, Anna Logue Records continues doing what it's always done; unveiling music that should be heard, released with passion by people who genuinely love it, for those who understand that sometimes, the best technology is the one that came before everything got polished to death. This weekend marks 10 years since the police killing of Jamar Clark. Clark was 24 years old and unarmed when Minneapolis police shot and killed him. The officers said Clark reached for one of their guns during a confrontation outside a party. Some witnesses disputed that Clark reached for the officer's weapon. No officers were charged with a crime. Clark's death spurred protests and activism that has carried through the police killings of other Black men in Minnesota, Philando Castile in 2016 and George Floyd in 2020.MPR News host Nina Moini talked to one of Clark's sisters, Tiffany Burns, to reflect on the 10 years since her brother's death, which changed Minnesota's history and her family forever.

Elsa McGrain went out for a jog on Thursday, November 6 in Lawrence, Kansas and was hit by a vehicle. Someone passing by found McGrain's body hours later and called 911. Security cameras captured a truck of interest and several tips led to the arrest of William Klingler, 36. The district attorney's office filed charges of felony leaving the scene of a deadly accident, circumventing an ignition interlock device, driving while suspended and no proof of motor vehicle insurance. McGrain was a pre-med student and a beloved sorority sister. Gardaí and the family of Eoin Joy are appealing for information on his whereabouts. Eoin is described as being about five foot ten in height, of medium build, with brown hair and blue eyes. When last seen, he was wearing a beige fleece, mid-blue jeans, and dark trainers with a white stripe. It's believed Eoin may have travelled to County Clare, and both Gardaí and his family are deeply concerned for his well-being. Sally-Ann Barrett spoke to Eoin's sister Dee Dalton on Morning Focus. He was responsible, driven, and a dedicated systems manager well on his way to earning his bachelor's degree and working in the IT field. But, on a hot June night in 2001, while planning a bachelor party with his friend Mark Richardson, Shelton disappeared. Two years later, his car is found abandoned leaving more questions than answers.
