By the next morning, three of them were gone. Lori Farmer, age 8. Doris Denise Milner, age 10. Michelle Gussie, age 9. The last thing Lori did was write a letter home to her family.What makes this case even more disturbing: weeks before the murders, a threatening note was found on camp property. It read, "We are on a mission to kill three girls in one tent." Camp directors assumed it was a prank and threw it away.The prime suspect was Gene Leroy Hart, a member of the Cherokee Nation known throughout his community as the Sandman, a man believed to be a shapeshifter. Detectives reported seeing a black dog following them through the woods during the investigation, one that would vanish without a trace. Hart died in prison before a conviction. In 2022, DNA evidence strongly suggested his guilt. The case remains officially unsolved.Oh, and Kristin Chenoweth was supposed to be at that camp. She was sick and stayed home.

Angelica's solution is to trick Flash into putting on a Spider-Man costume and put him next to civilian-clad Peter, so as to confuse Sandman into thinking he didn't know what went on. Hnedel and Brooke break down how they approached Spider-Noir as a grounded detective noir with superhero elements — balancing period-specific world-building, practical production choices, invisible visual effects, and large-scale hero sequences without letting the VFX overwhelm the story. They discuss the early pitch process, building alignment with showrunners and department heads, and why visual effects needed to be involved from pre-production through final delivery. The conversation gets into the unique black-and-white and color workflow for the show, including the technical lift of supporting both versions, building a pipeline across multiple vendors, protecting the noir look while preserving the richness of the color version, and managing the added storage, editorial, review, render, and QC demands that came with that process. It's time to talk about "Double Cross," the third episode of Spider-Noir, which is perhaps our most plot-heavy installment yet! In discussing the "intricate web" that this show weaves, we discuss the violence and language employed on this show (in a way that works), how Spider-Noir weaves race into its narrative in an intentional way, and how it smartly (and sparingly) returns to the things the show does well. Does "Double Cross" introduce Tombstone? We discuss the newest super-powered human. Joey talks about how he was emotionally affected by Sandman's storyline before making a big discovery about his favorite character on the show. We break down the big showdown and the series' second cliffhanger, and how that makes sense given the directorial duties on the show. This episode (and the next) were helmed by Nzingha Stewart, who is only Cage's second (!) female director; this discovery leads us down a Cage VOD rabbit hole and into the blur of his 2010s movies. Spider-Noir is on Prime Video so Dan and Raul can decide what they think about Nic Cage's take on Pet... er, Ben Riley actually! Probably due to contracts, there are no Parkers in this black and white private detective tale that puts the current Spider-Man a 1930s New York City that shoots a lot like modern Los Angeles, but there are plenty of powered up weirdos filling newspaper pages. Some characters are old fashioned takes on previously seen villains like The Sandman, alongside new foes like Tombstone as well as classic Spidey fodder, organized crime.
