Episode 19 : Former Kauai GMAC Commissioner Robert Cremer Jr.Robert Cremer Jr., the former Kauai representative on the Hawaii State Game Management Advisory Commission ("GMAC"), joins the podcast and we discuss the GMAC.  Issues like loss of hunting areas and challenges to establish game management for public hunting are discussed.

I'm joined by Jake Brooks on the podcast.  We share a recent hunt for Axis Deer on the island of Lanai. 

In this solo episode I touch on public sheep hunting opportunities in Hawaii.  I also go into the situation surrounding efforts to protect wild sheep futures in Hawaii.  I really feel the latter portion of this episode is something all public hunters in Hawaii need to hear as it affects their future. 

I'm joined by Roi Tanimoto on our experience of the 2019 Redding Western Classic Trail Shoot.  It is the largest 3D archery tournament in the world attracting over 1600 archers from across the world annually.  Aside from the archery tourney, I cover some recent events with the Hawaii State Game Management Advisory Commission in seeking a target population management basis.

We cover the 2019 Hawaii State Lanai Axis Deer Hunt for does. I’m joined by some of my closest hunting friends, Grant Kow, Riley DeMattos, Jake Silva, and Jeff Malavong.  We all tagged on at least one doe each and had quite the usual annual adventure.  From getting stuck in the mud, me losing something every day there, a recap of each tag taken, and just good banter among the boys. 

Solo podcast on Big Island Wild Sheep and my reasons for what I do and efforts to protect them for future generations.  We touch a bit on game management plans and politics.  Also, a touch on the Puuwaawaa Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) and how it relates to sustained public sheep hunting within Puuwaawaa.  This is my attempt to try to explain the politics hunters are facing in Hawaii using one really delayed project as an example.  I hope you'll want to give it listen and learn up on what is going on and how much every hunter in Hawaii must organize to overcome the challenges to secure a future for these resources. 

Episode 13 : Darrell Tanaka - Hawaii Noncommercial Fishing License : I saw some buzz on social media for several years about Hawaii adopting a non-commercial/recreational fishing license or permit system.  I wanted to learn more about it so we talk with Darrell Tanaka about this.  Darrell is on Maui and has been active in marine conservation and politics.  We chat about a few marine topics and get into this scoping for a license system.  Hawaii is probably the only State in the country that does not have some kind of noncommercial fishing permitting system.  As Darrell says at the end, "...no resource, no fisherman..."  As with all my topics, I invite any organization or governmental folk to talk of Hawaii resource issues.  Public resources are something I am passionate about and feel so little real education and meaningful content is out there about it.

Episode 10 we join Roi Tanimoto Hawaii local archer that has competed on the national level with success.  We talk about his archery career thus far, some random aspects of archery, target panic, release, personal shot execution, light touch on mental game.  Listener questions are covered from Mathews Top Hat system, steadier bow arm, and practice for events.  It's a bit of a long one with all kinds of bits of information. 

This episode I get a moment with Representative and candidate for Governor of Hawaii, Andria Tupola. We talk a bit about her involvement with hunting stemming from the Waianae Aerial Shooting, the DLNR, Game Management Plans, and a bit about politics and voting.  A huge mahalo to Representative Tupola and her staff for sparing local hunters some time out of their busy campaign.  I also take the liberty to throw a bit of an intro with some current events and information I think are important for hunters to know.  You can fast forward about 16 minutes to get right to the interview.

Some information about the public hunting scene and structure in Hawaii.  A little tour of the species and islands to hunt.  I forgot to speak of Oahu and wild cattle on other islands but we get most of it covered.  And wrap up at the end with some public hunting Axis Deer on Lanai and some equipment I use and information hunting them.

In this episode, I sit down with John "Pooya" Motlagh of Makaha, Oahu.  He's been involved with the controversial aerial shooting of goats in West Oahu.  There may be "contentious" statements made about the whole debacle and critical of the Department.  To be clear, this is an issue that I feel Hawaii hunters should pay attention to.  There may be no "easy" way to talk to these things but "it is what it is."  We're going to talk about it and just see where it goes.  That said, I'd love to speak to any Department or environmental representatives but I'm not going to continue to climb roadblocks.

We start off with a little of current events and dive into a light discussion of traditional archery and answer a few questions. Fast forward to the 18 minute mark if you want to dive right into the traditional archery content.  We’ll do more of this in the future for sure.
