We also talk about Ireland's most wanted criminal, a zipline that will kill your kids, a roller coaster that will kill your ability to have kids, the infamous Toe Post (or "Toest"), and the famous Sourtoe Cocktail.I Like Your Shoelaces is a deep dive into all the hilarious and surreal stuff that happened during the blogging platform Tumblr's heyday. I'm joined by Sie Morley (Twitter), the community editor for SB Nation NHL communities Fear the Fin, Anaheim Calling and Jewels from the Crown, to talk about their days in a very specific Harry Potter fandom on Tumblr. We also have an insightful discussion about how J.K. Rowling's less-than-stellar ideological views may have influenced her writing and her endless desire to explain every single aspect of how wizards life. There's also some stuff about hockey, the best way to make sure no one asks you stupid questions about your job, and pretending to be Canadian so no one asks you about Donald Trump. My intro's audio is stored in OneDrive and I have been having issues with that lately, so I wasn't able to include an introduction this week. I'm back from my hiatus to talk about Tumblr role-play blogs and posts, both legitimate and ironic, with my friend Carissa (@JustCarissa). We discuss some of our favorites, I reveal too much about the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the Kingdom of Prussia, share a heartwarming tale of two brothers that would be prime material for Hollywood if it wasn't for where it was first told, and then we end with a table read of a few of the most "famous" open role-play posts out there in a segment that was extremely embarrassing to listen back to during editing. I'm publishing another episode on Monday, May 4th and after that, will be publishing every other week as before. Hope everyone is staying safe and hopefully inside! I'm joined by (another) Australian, this one being a graphic designer named Libby Wright (lbtvs on Instagram). Libby is here to educate me on the one topic from Tumblr I've been extremely resistant to learn anything about - Homestuck. We talk about what it was, its e-boy creator, the Homestuck cop, how one Homestuck fan almost died trying to turn their skin grey, and about some Australian spiders, one of which looks like a chicken wing. I'm joined this week by my close friend & terminal Lawyer Brain sufferer Elena for an episode about Tumblr's most (in)famous right wing libertarian economics blogger. Before that, I ask Alaina a vital question for not the first time. Other stuff includes Alana reacting live to an insane r/relationships post, us discussing instances of people not understanding how time works, Elaine's time in the Tumblr Les Mis fandom, a fraud in that community, and two mentions of Sodom and Gomorrah. I'm joined by Battle of Brisbane war hero and the former eighth-best blogger in all of Australia, Danny Hebdon (@_hebdon on Twitter), whose name I immediate mispronounce out of the gate, for a great chat about the very early days of Tumblr from two decades ago and Tumblarity, Tumblr's botched impressions method. There's also some fun chat about Uluru, Bob Katter and other great Australian things (like Pauline Hanson making a fool of herself), plus me viscerally remembering All Time Low and how they got me suspended when I was 14. There’s also Tumblr, the musical, which I won’t explain any further. I'm joined this week by my friend Wera for an awful episode that left both of us feeling extremely depressed. It starts off on a bad note as Wera explains how Swedish people butcher pizza, and it ends on a worse one as I talk about how I learned what "lolitics" is and read a painful piece of fan fiction. What's in the middle isn't great either - we talk about Sonic for Real Justice and then read a piece of Avengers fan fiction set in an escape room for no reason. We also discuss Carley learning one of her favorite Tumblr posts is fake & spend far too long talking about the Fallout video game series.
