Liverpool gave themselves a much-needed boost of confidence when they secured a hard-earned 2-0 victory at West Ham United on Sunday afternoon. Alexander Isak scored his first Premier League since arriving for £125million from Newcastle United by netting on the hour before Cody Gakpo sealed the win in injury time against the Hammers, who had Lucas Paqueta sent off late on. The result means Arne Slot's side have moved back into the top half of the table after ending a run of three successive defeats in all competitions. Liverpool are finally back to winning ways! In today's episode, I break down the 2–0 victory over West Ham, a result that brings some much-needed relief after a brutal run of form and growing pressure on Arne Slot.We analyse the performance from front to back: what Liverpool did well, the key moments that shaped the match, and the players who stepped up when it mattered. We also take a closer look at Slot himself - how much this win really eases the pressure, whether it signals genuine progress, and what still needs to improve if Liverpool want to rebuild momentum in the Premier League. After weeks of frustration, this result finally gives fans something positive to hold onto. But is it a turning point or just a temporary boost? Let's break it all down.Tune in for tactical insight, honest opinion, and full match reaction.
Goals from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo secured Liverpool a 2-0 win away at West Ham United in the Premier League. In this episode of The Reaction, Arne Slot and Joe Gomez give their assessment of the encounter at the London Stadium; we also bring you post-match analysis from former Reds Sammy Lee, Neil Mellor and Ray Houghton.
A first Premier League goal as a Red for Alexander Isak and a stoppage time strike from Cody Gakpo secured a much needed win for under pressure Arne Slot at West Ham, as Florian Wirtz caught the eye with a lively performance. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Dan Thomas and Peter Schulz to discuss a rare win for the struggling Reds that can hopefully be the first step on the road to recovery.
Nuno's half time substitutions changed West Ham United's trajectory on Saturday, going from a team that was calm and clinical, to one which looked scared and submissive - enabling Iraola's Bournemouth to negate their two goal deficit with relative ease. And the truth is, the Hammers were lucky to emerge with so much as a point, as the second 45 turned out to be one of the most one-sided halves of football that you'll ever see. Although considered to be a good bet for the Cup each season, West Ham United's league form had been middling at best. In fact, some pundits tipped them to fall back out of the First Division when 1985/86 kicked off. But an opening day injury meant that a relatively unknown midfield signing from St Mirren had to be pushed up front to partner the club's up-and-coming young hero and the chemistry was instant. They wouldn't win the title - more of that next week - but they very nearly did and arguably could and would have if mother nature had been a bit kinder. Author Dominic Hougham is here to relive a famous season and reassess a much-loved team. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by John Cross, Riath Al-Samarrai and Jack Rosser to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We start with Liverpool's fourth consecutive Premier League defeat — a run that John describes as “mind-blowing.” So, what's gone wrong with their defence this season? Attention then shifts to Manchester United, who beat Brighton for a third consecutive win — the first under Ruben Amorim. Is this yet another false dawn, or does this one feel different? Riath remains unconvinced.Next up is West Ham United. After kicking off the weekend with a third straight league loss to Leeds, Jack doesn't hold back — calling Nuno's team “unbalanced, old, and slow.”We then move to league leaders Arsenal, flying high after six straight wins in all competitions and a dominant 4–0 midweek victory over Atlético Madrid. John says it's shaping up to be a “spectacular” season for Arteta. We're also joined by The Athletic's Dermot Corrigan to chat all things El Clásico. For the first time, there's major English involvement — Dermot highlights how Jude Bellingham has shone in previous clashes, and why Marcus Rashford could be crucial with Raphinha and Lewandowski out. Finally, a super start for newly promoted Sunderland, leaping to second in the Premier League after a dramatic win at Stamford Bridge, which had fans singing, “We're going to win the league.”Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. On the first of two Clash of the Correspondents focusing towards the bottom of the table this week, James is joined by Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Burnley fan Jack Toner to discuss matters at their club ahead of what already feels like a 6-pointer at Molineux on Saturday. Wolves remain winless and on only two points following defeat at Sunderland and Bradley reveals that speculation in the Wolves community suggests not all is well with Vitor Pereira. Is a change of manager looking inevitable. For Burnley, wins from games against fellow promoted clubs Sunderland and Leeds means they can be pleased that they currently sit outside the relegation zone despite having a tough opening schedule. And the majority of The Clarets team could make a claim to be interesting as enabling options with discussion on Martin Dubravka, Maxime Esteve, Axel Tuanzebe, Jaidon Athony, midfield DEFCON monsters and Lyle Foster. For Wolves however, there is less appeal. Talisman Jorgen Strand Larsen has had injury issues and remains without a goal. Is he a sell for owners or should they keep patience? And what confidence can we have the two sides ability to beat the drop? The Assistant Professor of Football: Soccer, Culture, History.
It's a fall of unrest in East London again. Hammers United, the largest organized fan group at West Ham United, has so far refrained from calling on members of the board or the CEO to resign. Until now. They have launched the campaign "No More BS," targetted specifically at CEO Karen Brady, the B, and chairman David Sullivan, the S. Beyond leafleting, black balloons or protest marches before games, Hammers United are for the first time calling for a match boycott, at West Ham's next home game, against Brentford on Monday 20th. British media has piled on, with an unprecedented level of scrutiny highlighting the chaotic conditions at West Ham United since Sullivan took over, and the since the move to the London Stadium in 2016. Reason enough to check in again with Andy Payne. He is a chair of the Fan Advisory board, an institution that every Premier League club now must have, and the joint secretary of Hammers United. West Ham United's anthem, "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles," is a masterpiece of bittersweet footballing identity. This episode dives into the incredible journey of a 1918 music hall tune that became the cultural touchstone of the Hammers. We trace the lore back to player Billy ‘Bubbles' Murray in the 1920s and explore why the song's melancholic lyrics—about dreams that "fade and die"—so perfectly capture the club's history of fluctuating fortunes and resilient hope. We break down the iconic bubble-blowing ritual at the London Stadium (and the Boleyn Ground before it), analyzing the powerful metaphor that connects the Bobby Moore glory days to modern European success like the Conference League victory.West Ham United, Football Anthem, Blowing Bubbles, London Stadium, Premier League Culture

Not-so-fresh from a visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night, Matt and Paddy convene to pick through a frustrating 1-1 draw with West Ham United. We look at the big issues that emerged from the game, as the Blues became the worst version of themselves across the pitch. How big a problem are the two full-backs and the two centre-forward options? Moyes' handling of the new players is also analysed, as well as the ridiculous recent bookings for Dewsbury-Hall. Suj and James review the weekend of Gameweek 6 where many who Wildcarded and those who used the Triple Captaincy had success... spare a thought for those who don't own Erling Haaland... because it was another week where for many returns were difficult to come by. All the games discussed, including Arsenal's late and deserved win at Newcastle and it's Gunners assets who are likely to be a priority for many FPL managers this week as they prepare to host West Ham United, now managed by Nuno Espirito Santo. Crystal Palace maintained their strong start with their own late victory against Liverpool, City hit five as Haaland too left it late on a weekend where nine goals were scored in added time. One of those goals was scored by Tottenham, but James was far from happy with their draw against a Wolves side who went into the weekend without a point. Chelsea were again beaten after a man was sent off and the Manchester United inquest continues after defeat at Brentford. There's also chat on the continued success of DEFCON monsters such as Marcos Senesi, fixture turns, concern for Nottingham Forest and more... Although on top in the first half, we had to wait until early in the second period for the breakthrough thanks to Pape Matar Sarr's fine header and, after Tomas Souček received a straight red card, we took full advantage. Lucas Bergvall netted his first-ever Premier League goal, on what was his 50th appearance in our colours, to make it 2-0 almost immediately before Micky van de Ven added a third to wrap up our first win at the London Stadium in six visits. On Clash of the Correspondents it's a meeting between the Premier League's South Coast clubs as Bournemouth fan Neil Grover and Brighton fan Sam Murray join James for a chat on their clubs ahead of their GW4 encounter. Antoine Semenyo is already up to 7.4, should those who aren't there yet get on as soon as possible or might there be a bit opportunity from Bournemouth's opponents on Saturday? There's coverage on whether Georgino Rutter can lock down a starting spot and the wide players also look more secure for minutes than they have in the past. Key defensive assets are also covered, who might be on penalties, the integration of new additions and whether either club can make a sustained push for European qualification.
