The Royal Family marked Christmas Day with the traditional church walk at Sandringham, as King Charles the Third and Queen Camilla were joined by Prince William, Catherine and their children at St Mary Magdalene Church in Norfolk.Princesses Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie made a notable appearance alongside senior royals, a move some observers see as quietly testing public reaction. The Wales children greeted crowds, with Prince Louis providing the day's lightest moment by proudly claiming a giant chocolate gift during the walkabout.Across the Atlantic, Meghan shared a glimpse of a low-key family Christmas in a holiday message, while the contrast between Sandringham tradition and California calm underlined just how divided the modern royal Christmas has become.Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.

Before the disgrace came the adoration. In the shadow of his elder brother Charles, Andrew was “the Golden Prince” — dashing, charming, and adored by the press. As a young naval officer and hero of the Falklands War, he embodied confidence and glamour. But even in these glittering early years, the seeds of entitlement were being sown. To his mother, he could do no wrong. To palace insiders, that would prove dangerous.Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.

Reports suggest Prince Harry and Meghan could be considering a Diana-focused documentary for 2027, with industry sources questioning whether such a project is being dangled to sustain their Netflix relationship. Royal Insider Deep Crown reacts sharply to the idea, warning it would deepen family divisions and further damage any hope of reconciliation. We also look at claims that both Harry and Meghan are increasingly troubled by their children's lack of relationships with their grandfathers, alongside renewed confusion after Harry was introduced as “Harry Wales” at a polo event — an error his team insists was not requested. There are also reports that Prince William wants Harry cut out of future inheritances in order to protect the institution, while Andrew is said to have accepted a tightly controlled financial arrangement with the Palace that limits how he appears in public. Further claims suggest King Charles may still have one final leverage point to force Andrew out of Royal Lodge. We round out the episode with new figures showing King Charles has overtaken Princess Anne as the most active royal by engagement count in 2025, and a lighter note as Zara and Mike Tindall prepare for another high-profile Australian trip tied to the Magic Millions festival.Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.

Analysis of four hundred seventy Palace Intrigue episodes breaks down the stories, names and themes that defined royal coverage in 2025. The numbers reveal a monarchy under sustained pressure, dominated by scandal, health crises and unresolved family rifts.Andrew emerged as the most talked-about royal by a wide margin, with his Epstein-linked fallout, loss of titles and forced departure from Royal Lodge defining the institutional crisis of the year. Prince William followed closely, as he quietly stepped into a larger leadership role amid growing expectations of a future royal reset. We examine why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continue to dominate headlines from California, how the narrative around the Sussexes began to shift, and why Netflix remained a central battleground. We also reflect on King Charles's first full year as monarch during cancer treatment, Kate's health journey, and the words that kept appearing again and again: controversy, feud, scandal and security. Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.

In his Christmas message, King Charles the Third invoked wartime spirit and urged communities to pull together in an increasingly divided world, saying, “With the great diversity of our communities we can find the strength to ensure that right triumphs over wrong.”The address was recorded in Westminster Abbey, marking the second consecutive year the King has delivered his message away from a royal residence. Speaking from the medieval Lady Chapel, he reflected on the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day and praised the courage and sacrifice of the wartime generation. The King also highlighted acts of “spontaneous bravery” in recent emergencies, including the Bondi Beach attack in Australia, and spoke of the importance of faith leaders working together, referencing his prayer alongside Pope Leo during a Vatican visit. A Ukrainian choir performed a carol during the broadcast, underscoring the King's continued support for Ukraine.Quoting T. S. Eliot, the King called for calm and reflection as “our world seems to spin ever faster,” with aides suggesting the message alluded to the impact of new technologies and the idea of a digital detox. The broadcast avoided personal matters, including the King's health and his brother Andrew. Instead, it focused on the working royals, with footage of Prince William and Catherine, and images of Prince George visiting a homelessness charity for the first time. The message concluded with a reflection on the Christmas story as one of peace, reconciliation, and compassion, which the King described as “a prayer for our times.”Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.

SHOW 12-22-25 THE SHOW BEGINS WITH DOUBTS ABOUT FUTURE NAVY. 1941 HICKAM FIELD 1. Restoring Naval Autonomy: Arguments for Separating the Navy from DoD. Tom Modly argues the Navy is an "underperforming asset" within the Defense Department's corporate structure, similar to how Fiat Chrysler successfully spun off Ferrari. He suggests the Navy needs independence to address critical shipbuilding deficits and better protect global commerce and vulnerable undersea cables from adversaries. 2. Future Fleets: Decentralizing Firepower to Counter Chinese Growth. Tom Modly warns that China's shipbuilding capacity vastly outpaces the US, requiring a shift toward distributed forces rather than expensive, concentrated platforms. He advocates for a reinvigorated, independent Department of the Navy to foster the creativity needed to address asymmetric threats like Houthi attacks on high-value assets. 3. British Weakness: The Failure to Challenge Beijing Over Jimmy Lai. Mark Simon predicts Prime Minister Starmer will fail to secure Jimmy Lai's release because the UK mistakenly views China as an economic savior. He notes the UK's diminished military and economic leverage leads to a submissive diplomatic stance, despite China'sdeclining ability to offer investment. 4. Enforcing Sanctions: Interdicting the Shadow Fleet to Squeeze China. Victoria Coates details the Trump administration's enforcement of a "Monroe Doctrine" corollary, using naval power to seize tankers carrying Venezuelan oil to China. This strategy exposes China's lack of maritime projection and energy vulnerability, as Beijingcannot legally contest the seizures of illicit shadow fleet vessels. 5. Symbolic Strikes: US and Jordan Target Resurgent ISIS in Syria. Following an attack on US personnel, the US and Jordan conducted airstrikes against ISIS strongholds, likely with Syrian regime consultation. Ahmed Sharawi questions the efficacy of striking desert warehouses when ISIS cells have moved into urban areas, suggesting the strikes were primarily symbolic domestic messaging. 6. Failure to Disarm: Hezbollah's Persistence and UNIFIL's Inefficacy. David Daoud reports that the Lebanesegovernment is failing to disarm Hezbollah south of the Litani River, merely evicting them from abandoned sites. He argues UNIFIL is an ineffective tripwire, as Hezbollah continues to rebuild infrastructure and receive funding right under international observers' noses. 7. Global Jihad: The Distinct Threats of the Brotherhood and ISIS. Edmund Fitton-Brown contrasts the Muslim Brotherhood's long-term infiltration of Western institutions with ISIS's violent, reckless approach. He warns that ISISremains viable, with recent facilitated attacks in Australia indicating a resurgence in capability beyond simple "inspired" violence. 8. The Forever War: Jihadist Patience vs. American Cycles. Bill Roggio argues the US has failed to defeat jihadist ideology or funding, allowing groups like Al-Qaeda to persist in Afghanistan and Africa. He warns that adversaries view American withdrawals as proof of untrustworthiness, exploiting the US tendency to fight short-term wars against enemies planning for decades. 9. The Professional: Von Steuben's Transformation of the Continental Army. Richard Bell introduces Baron von Steuben as a desperate, unemployed Prussian officer who professionalized the ragtag Continental Army at Valley Forge. Washington's hiring of foreign experts like Steuben demonstrated a strategic willingness to utilize global talent to ensure the revolution's survival. 10. Privateers and Prison Ships: The Unsung Cost of Maritime Independence. Richard Bell highlights the crucial role of privateers like William Russell, who raided British shipping when the Continental Navy was weak. Captured privateers faced horrific conditions in British "black hole" facilities like Mill Prison and the deadly prison ship Jersey in New York Harbor, where mortality rates reached 50%. 11. Caught in the Crossfire: Indigenous Struggles in the Revolutionary War. Molly Brant, a Mohawk leader, allied with the British to stop settler encroachment but became a refugee when the British failed to protect Indigenous lands. Post-war, white Americans constructed myths portraying themselves as blameless victims while ignoring their own Indigenous allies and British betrayals regarding land rights. 12. The Irish Dimension: Revolutionary Hopes and Brutal Repression. The Irish viewed the American Revolutionas a signal that the British Empire was vulnerable, sparking the failed 1798 Irish rebellion. While the British suppressed Irish independence brutally under Cornwallis, Irish immigrants and Scots-Irish settlers like Andrew Jackson fervently supported the Continental Army against the Crown. 13. Assessing Battlefield Realities: Russian Deceit and Ukrainian Counterattacks. John Hardie analyzes the "culture of deceit" within the Russian military, exemplified by false claims of capturing Kupyansk while Ukraine actually counterattacked. This systemic lying leads to overconfidence in Putin's strategy, though Ukraine also faces challenges with commanders hesitating to report lost positions to avoid forced counterattacks. 14. Shifts in Latin America: Brazilian Elections and Venezuelan Hope. Ernesto Araujo and Alejandro Peña Esclusapredict a 2026 battle between socialist accommodation and freedom-oriented transformation in Brazil, highlighted by Flavio Bolsonaro's candidacy against Lula. Meanwhile, Peña Esclusa anticipates Venezuela's liberation and a broader regional shift toward the right following leftist defeats in Ecuador, Argentina, and Chile. 15. Trump's Security Strategy: Homeland Defense Lacks Global Clarity. John Yoo praises the strategy's focus on homeland defense and the Western Hemisphere, reviving a corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. However, he criticizes the failure to explicitly name China as an adversary or define clear goals for defending allies in Asia and Europe against great power rivals. 16. Alienating Allies: The Strategic Cost of Attacking European Partners. John Yoo argues that imposing tariffs and attacking democratic European allies undermines the coalition needed to counter China and Russia. He asserts that democracies are the most reliable partners for protecting American security and values, making cooperation essential despite resource constraints and political disagreements.

In this episode of Historically Thinking, we begin not with a historian's voice, but with the voice of a seventeenth-century woman.Lady Frances Culpeper Berkeley—born in England, twice widowed, and married in 1670 to Sir William Berkeley, governor of Virginia—speaks from the midst of crisis. Jamestown has burned. Nathaniel Bacon's rebellion has fractured the colony's political order. Her husband has been recalled to England to answer charges before the Crown. Lady Berkeley, left behind, attempts to make sense of loyalty, loss, honor, and exile. That voice is brought to life by my second guest, Amy Stallings, a historian and historical interpreter who believes the past is best understood not only through documents, but through embodied experience. Together, we explore Bacon's Rebellion from an unfamiliar vantage point, the interior world of Lady Frances Berkeley, and the intellectual stakes of historical reenactment itself: what it reveals, what it risks, and what it makes newly visible.00:00 - Introduction00:28 - Lady Frances Culpeper Berkeley Introduces Herself00:58 - Writing to Her Husband in England02:55 - Sir William Berkeley's Accomplishments in Virginia04:23 - The Royal Commissioners and Personal Betrayal05:47 - Berkeley's Loyalty During the English Civil War07:17 - Berkeley's Resistance to Parliament08:15 - Berkeley's Return to Power and Jamestown's Glory09:39 - Nathaniel Bacon's Rebellion Begins11:08 - Bacon Surrounds the State House12:57 - Introducing Amy Stallings13:41 - Theater and History Intertwined14:27 - The Dissertation on Ballroom Politics21:40 - Dance as Political Resistance24:25 - English Country Dancing Before the Waltz28:53 - First Character: Susan Binks, Tobacco Bride28:53 - Learning History Through First-Person Interpretation39:14 - Developing Lady Berkeley's Character46:52 - Lady Berkeley's Isolation and Loss46:52 - Lady Berkeley's Inheritance and Legal Battles55:00 - The Challenges of Colonial Communication57:00 - Sewing Period Costumes61:51 - Conclusion

On this episode of Superlative, host and founder of aBlogtoWatch, Ariel Adams, sits down with Benoît Mintiens, the founder of Ressence, for an in-depth conversation on what it truly means to rethink modern watchmaking. Marking 15 years of Ressence, Benoît reflects on the emotional and strategic weight of watch trade shows like Watches and Wonders, the enduring importance of in-person experiences in a digital world, and how human connection continues to drive enthusiasm for mechanical timepieces. The discussion moves into the realities of running an independent watch brand, from the unexpected “show business” demands placed on founders to the challenges of building a company without becoming its sole personality. Benoît explains Ressence's core philosophy of applying industrial design thinking to fine watchmaking, detailing how starting from the user experience rather than the movement has led to radical ideas such as oil-filled dials, crown-less cases, and the groundbreaking e-Crown system. Ariel and Benoît explore why most consumers buy watches for the brand rather than the products themselves, how independent brands operate at the edge of the industry's ecosystem, and why disruption often comes from designers and engineers willing to challenge century-old norms. Listen in on their conversation as the two look at the fragile industrial supply chain behind high-end watchmaking, the cost and complexity of true innovation, and why Ressence's future-focused approach continues to resonate with a global community of curious, forward-thinking collectors.Stay updated with Benoît and Ressence Watches:- https://ressencewatches.com/ - https://www.instagram.com/ressence_watches/ SUPERLATIVE IS NOW ON YOUTUBE! He's constructed his entire post-royal identity around not repeating Diana's experience." Kate vs Camilla explodes—Queen "astounded" Kate entertaining Harry reconciliation, source claims "poisonous showdown at palace" where Camilla called Kate "naive and reckless." TIARA WARS: Kate wears Oriental Circlet with 2,600 diamonds/rubies at State Banquet, deliberately overshadowing Camilla. Source: "Camilla was hopping mad, said it was another blatant attempt to hog the limelight." Deep Crown: "Catherine isn't preparing to be Queen—she's already performing the role. That tiara was making the subtext text. Camilla faces uncomfortable reality that if Charles recedes, her relevance recedes with him.Catherine represents everything Camilla never managed: youth, public adoration, unassailable position." We look to the Lord for the Gospel, faith, and the Holy Spirit as we realize that there is a battle raging. An unbeliever has no battle because the Word is not heard, but for the baptized there is a struggle. The struggle, however, is not more powerful than the resurrected Lord! Today we look at the period leading up to the First Continental Congress beginning with a look at Loyalists versus Patriots. The period of 1760-1774 is a critical time frame for the Colonies. This period is marked by the Stamp Act and the Townsand Act that provokes increased hatred toward the Crown and increased boycotts of British goods. This leads us to the Boston Massacre as British Troops are ordered to use deadly force to bring the Colonies back into obedience with the Crown. These actions fail, furthering the divide between Loyalists and Patriots. C Judy Dempsey examines fears that Russia will shift military forces to the NATO border if a Ukraine peace deal is reached. She discusses reported US pressure on Kyiv to surrender the Donbas, noting that both Ukraine and the EU oppose such concessions due to sovereignty concerns and lack of security guarantees. Judy Dempsey addresses the industrial crisis in Germany, specifically the auto industry's struggle against Chinese electric vehicles. She notes that Chancellor Merz is avoiding necessary pension reforms due to political pressure, while the rise of the AfD and a shifting transatlantic relationship further complicate Germany's economic stability. Mary Kissel argues that Ukraine cannot surrender the Donbas without ironclad security guarantees, citing past broken agreements like the Budapest Memorandum. She validates Finnish and Baltic fears regarding Russian aggression and questions whether the Trump administration's business-centric approach can effectively manage Vladimir Putin's ideological brutality. Mary Kissel characterizes China's economy as collapsing under Xi Jinping's mismanagement. She highlights the plight of Jimmy Lai, a 78-year-old British citizen imprisoned in Hong Kong, and urges Western leaders to use economic leverage to demand his release as a prerequisite for any improved relations. Jonathan Schanzer critiques the slow Australian police response to the Bondi Beach attack, linking the shooters to ISIS training in the Philippines. He warns that the Albanese government's political "virtue signaling" regarding Palestine may have emboldened radicals, while noting Hezbollah is reconstituting its money and weapons pipelines in Lebanon. Jonathan Schanzer analyzes the "murky" killing of US servicemen in Syria, attributing it to jihadist elements within the government's security forces. He describes the situation in Gaza as a deadlock where Hamas remains armed because no international force, other than the unacceptable option of Turkey, is willing to intervene. Gregory Copley details how the Bondi Beach attackers trained in the Philippines' insurgent areas. While praising Australian intelligence agencies, he blames the Albanese government for encouraging anti-Israel sentiment, arguing this political stance has given license to radical groups and undermined public safety. Gregory Copley reflects on the 25-year war on terror, arguing that Western governments have become distracted. He contends that elevating terrorists like Bin Laden to "superpower" status was a strategic error, as the true objective of terrorism is to manipulate political narratives and induce paralysis through fear. Gregory Copley observes a 2025 shift toward nationalism and decisive leadership, asserting that globalism is declining. He notes that nuclear weapons are becoming "unusable" due to changing military doctrines and warns that Western democracies are sliding toward autocracy, drawing historical parallels to Oliver Cromwell's rise as Lord Protector. Gregory Copley reports on King Charles III's improving health and his unifying role within the Commonwealth. He contrasts the stability of the constitutional monarchy with the historical chaos of Cromwell's republic, suggesting the Crown remains a vital stabilizing force against political turmoil in the UK and its dominions. Joseph Sternberg challenges the Trump administration's antagonistic view of the EU, citing polls showing the institution remains popular among Europeans. He argues that US policy should not be based on the expectation of the EU's collapse, noting that the UK's exit was unique to its specific history and not a continental trend. Joseph Sternberg condemns the imprisonment of British citizen Jimmy Lai in Hong Kong as a failure of UKdiplomacy. He argues that Hong Kong's economic success cannot be separated from its political freedoms, warning that the erosion of the rule of law threatens the territory's viability as a business center. Joseph Postell discusses the 1983 INS v. Chadha decision, which eliminated the legislative veto. He explains how this ruling stripped Congress of its ability to check the executive branch, transforming a once-dominant legislature into a weak institution unable to reverse administrative decisions on issues like tariffs. Joseph Postell suggests correcting the Chadha precedent by adopting a view of severability where delegations of power are unconstitutional without the accompanying legislative veto. He notes that the War Powers Resolutionremains a rare exception where Congress still retains a mechanism to reverse executive actions via simple majority.
