The last quarter of the 19th Century was in some ways, like the first quarter of the 21st Century - full of tone-deaf business barons gambling building vast riches — financing politicians and in accelerating the planet towards world wars. There are ripples in the timeverse, all the way to now, because the latest empire has started a war that it cannot end. The infinite rule of war is do not start a war you cannot finish — British back in 1879 set off a whole host of pain for itself by invading Zululand because the Boers of the Transvaal were flexing. First, however, was the small matter of trying to Crush the Zulu empire. Not only had the British suffered sharp reverses at Hlobane and, most dramatically, at Isandlwana, but Lieutenant-Colonel Pearson's column had now been shut up in Eshowe for nearly two months. At first the invasion had been greeted in Britain with confidence and patriotic support, yet that mood began to shift as the scale of the setbacks became clear and questions were asked about Lord Chelmsford's conduct of the campaign. Confidence gave way to unease as news filtered home that the war was proving far more difficult than anyone had expected. So it is to Eshowe we go. At the end of March 1879 Zulu warriors were spotted hiking down the hills near the Eshowe garrison, heading towards Nyezane near Gingindlovu on the coastal flats. They were led by Somopho of the emaNgweni ikhanda, Cetshwayo's chief armourer — and the army he led towards the Thukela was an interesting bunch. They included 3000 Tsonga from St Lucia Bay, along with 1500 from the kwaGingindlovu ikhanda, joined by Dabulamanzi, Cetshwayo's headstrong son who lived at eNtumeni near Eshowe and who commandedd 1000 men. There were 3000 men of the iNgobamakhosi, uNokhenke, the uMbonambi and uMcijo, joined by 1500 of the iNdluyengwe. Chief Sigcwelegcwele led these amabutho, along with Phalane kaMdinwa of the Mphukunyoni — Phalane was of royal blood and set an imposing figure amongst his troops. He wore brass ornaments on his ankles and neck, and had grown his fingernails five centimeters long, they were apparently as white as ivory and gave him a dangerous cat-like appearance, he was tall, a Marvel Superhero of the Zulu. This force of about 11 000 was in Lord Chelmsford's way, and he was about to cross the Thukela River to relieve Pearson in Eshowe. Cetshwayo's was aware that the English Zulu chief, had turned his coat, John Dunn who had initially fled Zululand, then tried to remain neutral, had now openly thrown in his lot with Chelmsford's relief column. He had observed the British response to the defeat at Isandhlwana and realised that the Zulu could not win this war, nor even draw it. Chelmsford's response was to turn to John Dunn, and with him came something the British had lacked until then — a practical understanding of African warfare. Dunn encouraged constant forward reconnaissance, understood the rhythms and tactics of Zulu fighting, and insisted on the discipline of laagering, measures that addressed many of the army's earlier weaknesses. He was placed in charge of 244 men and effectively made chief of intelligence — a somewhat unusual appointment. Until then such responsibilities had normally fallen to regular British officers. Dunn, however, was no officer of the Crown. What he brought instead were deep personal ties within the Zulu kingdom, along with a network of scouts and informants. In Chelmsford's camp he would operate not only as an intelligence gatherer, but also as a crucial intermediary between the British command and the African world beyond their lines.

BREAKING: Musqueam Secures Aboriginal Title Over Lower Mainland with Dallas Brodie

Recent developments around Indigenous land rights have quickly become one of the most consequential—and least understood—policy discussions unfolding in British Columbia today. At the center of the debate is a newly announced “Rights Recognition” agreement between the federal government and the Musqueam Nation, a framework that signals a shift in how Canada acknowledges Indigenous authority within traditional territories across the Lower Mainland. For decades, governments typically treated Indigenous claims as unresolved legal disputes to be negotiated or settled through treaties. This agreement marks a notable evolution. Instead of simply acknowledging that claims exist, the federal government is formally recognizing that the Musqueam possess Aboriginal title within their traditional territory—an area that includes large portions of Metro Vancouver. While the agreement does not immediately alter land titles or the land registry, it establishes a framework for what officials describe as “incremental implementation,” meaning changes could unfold gradually through policy, negotiations, and future legal interpretations. For many residents, the implications are difficult to interpret. Nearly two million homeowners live within the broader area referenced in Musqueam traditional territory, and questions have emerged about how this recognition might intersect with long-standing concepts of private property ownership. Legal experts emphasize that the agreement is not a treaty and does not directly override existing property rights. However, it acknowledges a legal “burden” on Crown sovereignty—essentially recognizing an underlying Indigenous interest in the land that could shape future governance, land management, and resource decisions.Adding to the complexity is the broader legal context. Canada's commitment to aligning policy with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) establishes new standards for how governments consult and collaborate with Indigenous nations. To explore the issue in greater depth, this episode features Dallas Brodie, MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena and interim leader of OneBC. A former defence lawyer and broadcaster, Brodie has been one of the most outspoken political figures commenting on the implications of Indigenous rights frameworks and land-title recognition. Her perspective reflects a growing conversation taking place across the province about how reconciliation, economic development, and private property rights intersect in the years ahead.Throughout the discussion, we examine the legal mechanics of the Musqueam agreement, the role of federal and provincial governments, and how emerging court decisions recognizing Aboriginal title may influence future policy. We also explore questions surrounding transparency, the relationship between reconciliation initiatives and economic investment, and how governments can provide clarity for residents navigating these complex developments. As British Columbia continues to evolve its approach to Indigenous relations and land governance, one thing is clear: the conversation around land rights, shared authority, and reconciliation is entering a new and pivotal phase. Understanding the legal, economic, and political dimensions of these changes will be essential for policymakers, homeowners, and investors alike. _________________________________ Contact Us To Book Your Private Consultation:

Prince William's disdain for his uncle, Prince Andrew, has reportedly hardened into something close to open contempt. According to multiple royal insiders, William views Andrew as a permanent stain on the monarchy—a man whose arrogance and scandalous ties to Jeffrey Epstein have dragged the family's reputation through the mud. Sources close to Kensington Palace say William has no interest in rehabilitating Andrew's image or restoring his public role; if anything, he wants him out of sight entirely. Behind closed doors, William is said to have expressed frustration that Andrew continues to live at the Royal Lodge on the public's dime, refusing to vacate even as the rest of the monarchy scrambles to modernize its image. Some reports even suggest William has privately discussed “formal exile” once he ascends to the throne, either by stripping Andrew of remaining titles or banishing him from royal estates altogether.William's approach is said to be strategic—protect the Crown, not the family. He reportedly sees Andrew's continued presence as a ticking PR bomb, undermining years of work to restore the monarchy's credibility after the Epstein disaster. At public events, William avoids being photographed near his uncle and has allegedly issued private warnings to Andrew to stay away from high-profile gatherings. Royal commentators describe the situation as icy and irreparable: William respects the institution, not the man. To him, Andrew represents the rot of unchecked privilege—a royal who mistook immunity for innocence. The unspoken consensus is clear: when William becomes king, Andrew's quiet exile will become official policy.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

"First, Seek to Understand": A CBT Expert's Guide to Everyday Communication

    The Reflective Doc Podcast

“Honesty doesn't have to be brutal. Honesty can be compassionate. Honesty can be respectful.” -Dr. Cory NewmanEpisode OverviewIn this episode, host Dr. Jennifer Reid sits down with Dr. Cory Newman, PhD to explore how the core principles of cognitive behavioral therapy can be woven into our everyday communication with partners, friends, family, coworkers, and even ourselves. What begins as a conversation about therapy technique quickly becomes a practical guide to navigating disagreements, setting boundaries, and showing up more compassionately in all our relationships.Throughout the conversation, Dr. Reid draws connections to her book Guilt Free: Reclaiming Your Life from Unreasonable Expectations (Penguin Life, 2026), which examines how guilt—particularly for women—shapes our communication patterns, our willingness to set boundaries, and our capacity for self-compassion.15 Key Takeaways (Dr. Newman had so many life-changing recommendations, we wanted to make sure you could read about them even if you didn't have time to listen!)1. The Three Pillars of CBTDr. Newman describes CBT as resting on three foundational principles: * A supportive therapeutic alliance* A deep understanding of the patient's lived experience (including cultural and sociological factors)* The development of practical coping skills. These skills promote agency and problem-solving rather than hopelessness and helplessness.CBT Connection: The cognitive behavioral model emphasizes that thoughts, behaviors, and emotions are interconnected. By shifting how we think and what we do, we can change how we feel (Beck, 1979).2. Communication Is Both Internal and ExternalWe tend to think of communication as what we say to others, but Dr. Newman emphasizes that internal dialogue matters just as much. CBT helps people talk to themselves more compassionately, constructively, and hopefully. That same skill then translates outward into better interpersonal communication. He also distinguishes between expressive communication (how we speak) and receptive communication (how we listen), both of which are essential to healthy relationships.Guilt Free Connection: In Guilt Free, Dr. Reid explores how harsh internal dialogue, especially the relentless voice of “I should be doing more,” fuels excessive guilt. Learning to communicate with yourself compassionately is the first step toward breaking free from unreasonable expectations.3. Start with IntentEvery meaningful conversation benefits from a clear, positive intent: to boost morale, to connect, to offer something useful, to communicate understanding. Dr. Newman suggests that even outside of therapy, we can adopt the mindset that our goal in any interaction is to leave the other person, and the relationship, in a better state than when we started.CBT Connection: Intentional communication is a behavioral intervention. By deliberately choosing our communicative goals before speaking, we interrupt automatic patterns that often lead to conflict (Beck, 1995).4. Validity + Utility: The Two-Part Test for What We SayDr. Newman introduces a powerful filter: before speaking, ask whether your comment has both validity (is it truthful?) and utility (is it useful?). Truth alone can be harsh. He pushes back on the idea of “brutal honesty.”Guilt Free Connection: The validity-utility framework directly parallels the guilt equation in Guilt Free, where guilt = our expectations (whether fair or not) minus our perceived reality. Often, guilt-driven communication passes the validity test but fails the utility test. For example, we may say things out of obligation that don't help ourselves or others.5. Intent vs. Impact: Naming the MismatchSometimes people don't mean to cause harm, but their words land that way. Dr. Newman recommends naming the gap directly: “I don't think you're trying to put me down, but the message you're sending sounds like a put-down.” This approach acknowledges the other person's good faith while still making room for your experience.CBT Connection: Distinguishing between intent and impact is central to cognitive restructuring. Cognitive distortions like mind-reading and personalization often cause us to assume malicious intent where there is none (Burns, 1980).6. Seek to Understand Before Problem-SolvingWhen someone is in distress, the instinct is often to jump straight to fixing. Dr. Newman advises leading with empathy instead: “If I were thinking the way you're describing, I'd be a nervous wreck too.” Validate first, then gently offer alternative perspectives. Problem-solving is more effective once the person feels heard.Guilt Free Connection: Dr. Reid describes a pattern she sees frequently, which is people, especially women, catastrophizing about situations and layering guilt on top. The compassionate validation Dr. Newman describes is exactly the antidote: honor the feeling, question the expectation.7. Turn Complaints into RequestsAlmost any complaint can be reframed as a request, and requests are far easier to hear. Instead of “You never reply to my voicemail messages,” try: “I'd really appreciate hearing from you, even briefly. It's hard for me when I don't hear from you.”CBT Connection: This reframing technique is a classic behavioral strategy in CBT. Converting complaints into constructive requests shifts the dynamic from blame to collaboration (Gottman & Silver, 1999).Guilt Free Connection: Dr. Reid explores how maladaptive guilt can be manipulative, such as when guilt-tripping replaces genuine requests, and relationships can suffer. Assertive communication (making requests without guilting) is key to breaking that cycle.8. Silence Fills Vacuums with AssumptionsWhen we avoid communication to spare someone's feelings—say, not RSVPing to avoid disappointing a friend—we leave a vacuum that the other person fills with their own assumptions, which are usually worse than reality. Dr. Newman advises speaking the reality, even when it's uncomfortable, because silence invites personalization and catastrophizing.Guilt Free Connection: In Guilt Free, Dr. Reid identifies avoidance as a common guilt-driven behavior: we don't say no because we don't want to disappoint, but the silence itself creates a bigger problem. Communicating honestly, even imperfectly, is almost always better than disappearing.9. Beware All-or-Nothing Thinking in CommunicationDr. Newman applies one of CBT's most foundational concepts, challenging black-and-white thinking, to our communication habits. You don't have to choose between long silences and a 90-minute heart-to-heart. A quick text saying “Thinking of you” is a powerful middle ground. He calls these “random acts of kindness through text,” which are small gestures that send a meta-message of care.CBT Connection: All-or-nothing thinking is one of the most common cognitive distortions identified in CBT. Recognizing and challenging it opens up a range of behavioral options we might not have considered (Beck, 1976).10. Match the Medium to the MessageText messaging is ideal for quick logistics and small kindnesses, but it strips away tone of voice and body language. Dr. Newman shares a vivid example of a patient whose text “I don't care” (meaning “I don't mind”) sparked a major argument with his girlfriend. For emotional or complicated conversations, choose a medium with more cues, such as phone, video, or in person. His rule of thumb: The more emotional and the more complicated the topic, the more cues are needed.11. The Gottman 20-Minute RuleDrawing on research by John and Julie Gottman, Dr. Newman describes how physiological arousal (elevated heart rate, fight-or-flight activation) makes productive conversation impossible. The Gottmans recommend taking a break during heated arguments and not resuming until at least 20 minutes after your heart rate returns to baseline.Dr. Newman applies this to everyday life: if you receive a message that makes you angry, wait until you've calmed down before responding. Otherwise, frustration will leak through even your most careful words.CBT Connection: Self-monitoring of physiological arousal is a core CBT skill. The Gottman research demonstrates that behavioral interventions (taking a break) must precede cognitive interventions (discussing the issue) when the body is in a threat state.12. Resolve to Resolve—Not to WinDr. Newman highlights one of the most destructive communication patterns: trying to win an argument rather than resolve it. He references the devastating scene in the film Marriage Story where two characters escalate insults in an attempt to out-hurt each other. When the goal shifts from understanding to victory, everyone loses.CBT Connection: The belief “I must convince the other person I'm right” is a cognitive distortion that fuels conflict. CBT teaches that making your point respectfully is already a success. Change in the other person may come later, or not at all, and that's okay (Newman, 2014).13. Never Go to Bed Angry? Not So Fast. Both Dr. Reid and Dr. Newman agree that while the spirit of this advice is sound (don't harbor resentment) the literal application can be harmful. Insisting on resolving a conflict when one partner is exhausted is destructive. The person who needs to sleep should be honored. The meta-message is: don't stonewall, but do respect each other's limits. Use a placeholder: “I want to talk this through, but right now I can't yet.”Guilt Free Connection: This scenario is a guilt trap in action. The pressure to resolve everything immediately often comes from guilt (“A good partner wouldn't go to bed angry”). Dr. Reid's framework encourages questioning whether that expectation is fair and giving yourself permission to rest.14. Setting Boundaries Without GuiltWhen repeated attempts at respectful communication are met with resistance, such as the same pressure, the same guilt trips, it's appropriate to set a firm boundary. Dr. Newman advises doing so with care: “I'd like to talk to you, but not under these conditions. When you can show some respect for what I've said, let me know.” You can walk away from that interaction knowing you handled it with integrity.Guilt Free Connection: Dr. Reid identifies “hyper-accountability,”the belief that we can and should control other people's emotional experience, as a major driver of excessive guilt, especially for women. Letting go of the need to make everyone feel okay is essential to healthy boundary-setting.15. Codependency is a behavioral condition characterized by relying excessively on another person for self-worth, identity, and emotional stability. Stephanie realized her childhood tendency towards codependency led her straight into the arms of an addict as an adult. In confronting this habit, Stephanie learned that the first step to unlearning codependency is to forgive others for their imperfections, and then to forgive yourself for wanting to control them. This releases the codependent person from feeling the need to "play God" and set healthy boundaries within themselves and their relationships.Stephanie is an author, speaker, teacher and boundaries mentor. Billy Ray is best-known for his work  as the Oscar-nominated and critically acclaimed screenwriter behind Captain Phillips, The Hunger Games, and the highly anticipated adaptation of Sunrise on the Reaping. In this first installment of an epic dystopian duology, Ray delivers a searing reimagining of Romeo and Juliet, set in a drowned London ravaged by climate change and centuries of war. BURN THE WATER marks his first transition to novel-writing. The year is 2425, and London is unrecognizable—a sea of decaying skyscrapers, submerged streets, and shattered remnants of a once-great city. Two armies—the Rogues and the Crowns—have waged war for generations, locked in a brutal battle over a world long lost to the sea. Rafe, the ruthless and magnetic leader of the Rogue army, and Jule, the fiercest warrior the Crown army has ever known, are sworn enemies by birth. Both destined to lead their factions to victory after centuries of bloodshed—until they fall for each other. Their love is forbidden, dangerous, and utterly consuming. As Rafe and Jule risk everything to protect one another amid the violence, a new and even greater threat emerges from the water, one that could destroy both armies, and what's left of their world. To survive, they must challenge everything they've been taught and convince their people that love is stronger than hate in a world where peace has always been impossible. Gritty, emotional, and sweeping, BURN THE WATER is a haunting exploration of generational conflict, sacrifice, and the belief that love is bigger than all of us.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

In 1419, Joan of Navarre, dowager queen of England and stepmother to Henry V, was arrested for witchcraft and necromancy. There was no trial. Her income was seized immediately. And Henry V, the king she supposedly tried to murder with wax figures and dark magic, freed her on his deathbed and wrote that he feared for his soul because of what he had done to her. So what actually happened? Joan's story takes us from the court of her father Charles the Bad, through two marriages and a regency, to one of the most cynical financial scams in medieval English history. Henry V needed money for his French campaigns. Joan was sitting on roughly ten percent of the entire Crown's annual revenue. And someone, somewhere, found a way to make that a treason charge. This is the story of a woman history forgot, and the king who made sure she'd be forgotten. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Space is a dangerous place. Even recently we learned that the entire Artemis program has been rebooted, adding more rockets and risks! In other worlds and other galaxies, “space” is full of human life, music, adventure, romance, and fantastical new worlds. Just in time for Firebreak, book 1 of the Firebird Interlude Trilogy, we're joined by longtime science fiction novelist Kathy Tyers to explore how the best space operas sing through this teeming expanse. Episode sponsors Firebreak by Kathy Tyers Realm Makers 2026 Conference & Expo The Hole-Man by Dan Dietz The Lorehaven Authorship Mission update New at Lorehaven: Andromache review, weekly reviews Subscribe free to get updates and join the Lorehaven Guild You'll get notified of monthly events, like last week's livestream. Backstory: Kathy (Tyers) Gillin Kathy Tyers sold her first novel, Firebird, to Bantam Spectra in 1986. Since its initial 1987 publication, it has been rereleased by Bethany House Publishers, Marcher Lord Press, and Enclave Publishing, and was followed by further Firebird-universe novels Fusion Fire and Crown of Fire. Kathy finished the Firebird series in 2011 and 2012 with Wind and Shadow and the messiah tale Daystar. Enclave Publishing has also re-released her early novels One Mind's Eye, Shivering World (Christy Award winner, 2019), and Crystal Witness. Now she's returning to the Firebird whorl for a new series of novels. The Firebird Interlude trilogy begins March 10 with the release of Firebreak. Kathy is also known for her Star Wars Expanded Universe novels—The Truce at Bakura and New Jedi Order: Balance Point. She lives in Montana with her husband William T. Gillin. KathyTyers.com on Facebook 1. What are the origin stories of space opera? 1818: Mary Shelley's first sci-fi-ish/horror novel Frankenstein 1830: British author Percy Greg's poetical Across the Zodiac Late 19th century: the prolific Jules Verne, across Earth and space Late 19th/early 20th century: H. G. Wells brings the humanism Early 20th century: Edgar Rice Burroughs shares pulp adventure Other written tales and film serials helped create early space opera This tradition focused not just on big ideas, but big human stories Without these tales, we might not have stories like Star Wars And that's one way that today's guest learned she liked sci-fi 2. Why do today's fans love space opera? Kathy Tyers has written harder science fiction, like Shivering World. Spaceships are cool, but many fans like human drama even more. For example, the Firebird Series is set in a far future galactic Whorl. Readers resonate with Lady Firebird and her husband Brennan. This, by the way, marks a rare example of married-couple heroes. Similarly, Star Wars has spaceships, but focuses on human heroes. Christians also see cool ideas and tech as means to human ends. Without our humanity, we become “minds of metal and wheels.” Even the best Star Trek episodes well understood this reality. 3. What might be the future of space opera? More about the Firebird Interlude series—titles, dates, speculation. Coming this June, Kathy Tyers gives a keynote at Realm Makers. Meanwhile, we may expect to March onward into big space opera. Project Hail Mary, based on Andy Weir's novel, gets early plaudits. Next up, actor Ryan Gosling and director Shawn Levy's Starfighter movie (set in the Star Wars universe) is receiving a new hope from fans. People do want futuristic, human-centric science-accented drama. And yet Christians see this not as simply “hope in the human spirit” but hope of redemption, for grace-filled humans and a future age. Com station Top question for listeners What space opera stories help you sing in joyful gratitude? Next on Fantastical Truth Kaizoku ou ni ore wa naru! Today around the world, millions of fans who love Japan's hit manga/anime series, One Piece, are rejoicing. First, because after 1,170+ chapters and nearly 30 years since 1997, creator Eiichiro Oda's pirates-with-powers story is sailing toward its final arcs. Second, because the popular anime is following soon after, breaking hiatus to resume in April. And third, because on March 10, Netflix is christening the One Piece live-action series Season 2, after 2023's Season 1 flagrantly and happily broke the “anime to live-action curse.” Why do fans (like Stephen himself) love these comical, earnest adventures of Captain Monkey D. EP#202 | The 7-Day Rule That Makes No Sense in Real Courtrooms Sponsored by EasyDNS https://easydns.com/NotOnRecord A year after the Supreme Court of Canada's June 13, 2025 decision in **R. v. Kinamore (2025 SCC 19)**, the Not on Record crew checks the scoreboard: did Crown attorneys actually start bringing **voir dire** applications before leading **Crown-led sexual history evidence**, including **sexual inactivity**, **virginity**, and “lack of sexual interest” messaging? The Court said the screening process should *mirror* the **s. 276 Criminal Code** regime the defence is already forced to navigate, aiming for basic **parity** and fair notice so an accused can know the case to meet. In practice, the lawyers describe a system where the defence files applications months in advance, while the Crown often arrives late (or not at all), leaving defence counsel to “pre-bake” the Crown's Kinamore issues into their own materials just to keep trials from derailing. They also get into the messy realities this decision was trying to fix: disclosure that contains sexual history references, whether a complainant can “waive” the process (spoiler: the Court says the application still has to happen), how credibility fights get boxed into absurd technicalities (yes, even arguing about “flirting”), and why timeline rules like “seven days” can be fantasy-land in real criminal litigation. **Not legal advice.** This episode is practical commentary on Canadian criminal procedure, evidence, and what Kinamore is changing (and not changing) in courtrooms. Key case referenced: R. v. Kinamore, 2025 SCC 19 (released June 13, 2025).

In 1677, the longtime residents of the old and remote county of Albemarle in northern Carolina, a collection of cranks and dissidents who had fled from Maryland and Virginia and were used to living free of interference from the Carolina proprietors and the Crown’s tax collectors, revolted against new attempts to collect duties on tobacco. Quite astonishingly, they succeeded! And not without some history comedy along the way. In the long history of the Americans, it is easy to ignore Culpeper's Rebellion. Virtually all surveys of American history do. Albemarle was small, a literal backwater, and not even the most important part of Carolina. Historians of North Carolina, however, see it as a truer reflection of the American Revolution, a century later, than the other colonial upheavals of the 1670s. The Albemarle rebels were an early example, in their democratic tax-avoiding free-trading don't-tread-on-me resistance, of ideas that would later be taken up throughout English North America.  Subscribe to my Substack! In this episode, writer-producer Hilliard Guess and guest co-host actor-writer-prod-dir Dalila Ali Rajah sit down for an educational conversation (we do talk a bit of politics in this one - FYI), with actor/writer/coach and 2026 NAACP Image Award nominee ADAM DAVENPORT, recognized in the Outstanding Literary Work – Journalism category for his essay examining Audra McDonald's 2025 Tony Awards performance of “Rose's Turn.” The piece reframes the performance as a landmark cultural moment - serving as an act of protest, reclamation, and artistic defiance within the lineage of Black women reshaping American performance. The nomination is a full-circle moment for Davenport, as the NAACP was the first organization to recognize his writing when he was in high school. He can speak to the nomination as well as his broader career as a multidisciplinary artist working across acting, writing, directing, producing, casting, and education. A Chicago native and Yale graduate, Davenport is a member of SAG-AFTRA, BAFTA, the European Film Academy, and the Recording Academy. His screen work includes Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Netflix), for which he received a Satellite Award for Best Ensemble alongside multiple critics' group honors. In 2020, he founded The International Acting Studio (TIAS), where he coaches actors working at the highest international level. Two performers he coached are current 2026 Czech Lion Award nominees, and his clients have appeared in projects including The Brutalist, Dune: Part Two, The Crown, and numerous network and cable series.Read the Essay here:https://www.bronzecommhub.com/blog/audra-mcdonald-took-the-stage-and-rewrote-the-rules

Shoot us a Text.Episode #1282: Honda leads the nation in fuel economy, destination charges quietly climb to $1,600 per vehicle, and a new Gallup report shows staffing shortages may be holding back customer experience across retail. If you had to guess the most fuel-efficient automaker in America, who would you pick? According to the EPA's newly released 2025 Automotive Trends Report, Honda just claimed the top spot—blending hybrids, smart engineering, and affordability into a winning formula.Honda posted a 31.0 mpg “real-world” fleet average for 2024—3.8 mpg higher than the industry average among full-line brands. The EPA ranking looks at automakers offering a complete mix of gas and electrified vehiclesHonda's efficiency dominance isn't new. The Civic topped the EPA's very first fuel economy rankings back in 1976.The average Honda transaction price in 2025 was $35,060—roughly $10,000 below the industry average.Honda also set a third straight annual electrified sales record, surpassing 400,000 units, led by CR-V, Accord, and Civic hybrids. There's a new line on the Monroney that's getting a second look: destination charges. These once-overlooked shipping fees are quietly adding billions to vehicle costs without technically raising MSRP.Buyers spent more than $26 billion on destination charges this year, an average of $1,600, according to Edmunds. Some increases are steep: F-150 fees jumped to $2,595, Tahoe rose to nearly $2,000; Toyota Sequoia's fee is up more than 50%.Automakers say the hikes reflect higher fuel, logistics, heavier SUVs and trucks—and now tariffs. Stellantis alone expects $1.9B in tariff costs in 2026.The charge is the same whether the vehicle traveled 10 miles or 1,000, and courts have ruled consumers shouldn't be surprised that it includes profit.John Morrill, Massachusetts dealer: “It's a way to raise prices that is, shall we say, less transparent to the consumer. Carmakers have raised them a lot, certainly faster than they've raised prices.”A new Gallup report highlights a growing gap in retail and beyond: employees feel deeply responsible for customer experience—but don't believe their companies can actually deliver on promises. And staffing cuts appear to be the biggest culprit.43% of workers strongly agree they feel responsible for customer experience (up from 38% last year), but only 23% believe their organization consistently delivers on its promises.Leadership is 10 points more confident than frontline employees that promises are being kept.Staffing is the top barrier to service, cited by 37% of workers—more than training, tools, or unclear standards combined.Today's show is brought to you by iPacket Value. Queen Elizabeth I is remembered as Gloriana, England's Virgin Queen and ruler of a golden age. But before the crown came danger. Born the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth went from celebrated princess to declared illegitimate, from royal heir to political suspect. Under her half-sister Mary I, she was imprisoned in the Tower of London, interrogated for treason, and at one point believed she would not survive the night. This video explores Elizabeth's extraordinary journey before her accession in 1558 - her upbringing, education, political dangers, imprisonment, and the lessons that shaped one of England's greatest monarchs. #ElizabethI #TudorHistory #BritishHistory #MaryI #AnneBoleyn #HenryVIII #HistoryDocumentary #EnglishHistory #WomenInHistory
