A young Chicago musician, Isaiah has played at several Motley open mics and release parties, and is a familiar face at DIY events and local venues alike. Playing as both an individual performer and also as the lead with his project Zaiah’s Ant Party, Isaiah brings fresh energy into the scene of this upcoming generation of musicians, emphasizing vibes of communal expression and connection.Isaiah brings his perspective to bear on artist and audience relations, the ethics of performance, and personal development as a musician. We work through some of the challenges that young musicians face, especially in the Chicagoland area, and by this come to discuss Isaiah’s impressions of American culture, youth, and creative production. Framing our discussion around his new show "Down the Rocky Road and all the Way to Bedlam," which you can catch in April and May in Chicago, we work through the nuances of artistic priorities when it comes to engineering theatre productions. As an interdisciplinary art, theatre offers its own myriad set of challenges, and Drew offers us his thoughts on this work as a young artist himself. This episode features an interview with the artist and musician Andy Warren Jepson from nearby Racine, Wisconsin! In our discussion we work through the careful matters of balance in artistic work - both in music and in visual art. Balance is crucial to any endeavor, but especially in creative production we clearly face the challenge of meeting many different kinds of needs at once. As a basic premise of this show, we spend some good time with the idea of being in pursuit of peace, and how artistic expression is therein a profound and deeply fulfilling means of articulating one's greatest self. 

We live in a rapidly changing world, and as technologies develop so too do different opportunities for artistic expression. Radio has long been a means of communication for commercial use, but moreover has also established an enormously relevant and accessible platform for information sharing – in particular towards artistic, political, and cultural ends.This second episode of Soundboard features an interview with Derek Peters, the Podcasting Program Director at Motley. Derek has long worked in the field of radio, and as the medium of podcasting is evolving into its own standing, he is working on the front lines of the cultural transition. New media mean new forms of art, and our conversation in this episode focuses explicitly on parsing out the similarities, differences, and nuances between podcasting as an art form and radio as a medium.
