When leadership changes at a major competition like the AAU National Championships, what happens to the quality of the event? Olympic medalists and veteran coaches Juan "The Mayor of Taekwondo" Moreno and TJ "Bronze" Grimes take us behind the scenes of the recent tournament in Salt Lake City, providing a raw, unfiltered look at what worked and what critically failed. The 3,400+ competitor event showed promising participation numbers, especially in youth divisions where color belts had multiple matches. But beneath this success lurked serious problems: inexperienced referees making critical errors, procedural inconsistencies that changed match outcomes, and most troublingly, young children competing without coaches present. The hosts don't just criticize—they offer concrete solutions while acknowledging the challenges of rebuilding after a leadership exodus. The conversation shifts to broader themes in combat sports, including a takedown of Joe Rogan's claims about his Taekwondo background (did he really have "Olympic aspirations"?), and a fascinating parallel with USA Soccer's systemic development problems following their disappointing loss to Mexico. Both discussions highlight how organizational structures and leadership directly impact athletic performance and development. This episode delivers more than just tournament talk—it's a masterclass in sports organization from two coaches who've experienced everything from local competitions to Olympic gold medal matches. Whether you're a coach, competitor, or martial arts enthusiast, you'll gain valuable insights into what makes competitions succeed or fail at the most fundamental levels.Have you experienced poor officiating at a tournament? Share your stories and join the conversation about how we can collectively improve competition experiences for athletes at all levels.

Escuchar audio

On the first day of jury selection in Sean "Diddy" Combs' federal sex trafficking trial, held on May 5, 2025, in Manhattan, the courtroom witnessed a meticulous process aimed at assembling an impartial jury. Judge Arun Subramanian led the proceedings, questioning a diverse pool of potential jurors about their backgrounds, media exposure, and any personal experiences that might influence their judgment. Notably, three women disclosed past experiences of sexual assault but affirmed their ability to remain objective. Despite these revelations, none were dismissed from the jury pool at that time. The defense team, seeking to ensure a fair trial amid intense media scrutiny, enlisted the expertise of jury consultant Linda Moreno, known for her work in high-profile cases. Moreno's role involves analyzing juror behavior and backgrounds to assist in selecting individuals who can objectively assess the evidence presented. The jury selection process also included inquiries about potential jurors' familiarity with a list of 190 celebrities, such as Michael B. Jordan and Kanye West, to identify any biases stemming from media consumption. Some jurors acknowledged viewing a widely circulated video allegedly showing Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. One juror described the video as "damning," leading to her dismissal due to concerns about impartiality. Combs, who has pleaded not guilty to charges including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, appeared in court dressed in business-casual attire, presenting a composed demeanor. The trial is expected to last approximately eight weeks, with opening statements scheduled for May 12.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Diddy's secret trial weapon revealed… as he prepares for the fight of his life | Daily Mail OnlineBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

HarperCollins Children's Books announced the publication of PAJAMMIN' by musician Ziggy Marley and acclaimed illustrator Letícia Moreno. Inspired by Bob Marley's iconic song "Jamming," this story about a family's fun-filled pajama party will inspire young readers and their caregivers to make bedtime a ritual worth celebrating.Carrying on his father's legacy of fostering joy and connection, Marley transforms iconic lines from "Jamming" into a bouncy, bedtime read-aloud. The result is a rollicking roadmap for screen-free family time, complete with Moreno's exuberant illustrations inspired by Marley's own multicultural family."This book is about togetherness and happiness," said Marley. "Children and adults will be able to tell 'cause the love that we put into it is vibrating from the pages. I am so happy to share this with everyone.""Ziggy brings the same joy and warmth to his books that he brings to his music, and working with him on this project has been a delight. Inspired by his own family's rituals and his father's iconic and beloved lyrics, he has created a celebration of creative play and family togetherness that's perfectly captured in Letícia Moreno's buoyant art," said Lynne Polvino, Senior Editor at Clarion Books.Marley is the eldest son of reggae icons Bob Marley and Rita Marley, and is a celebrated, eight-time Grammy Award-winning artist. He continues his father's mission of fighting for equality and social justice through his music; humanitarian work with his nonprofit, the U.R.G.E. Foundation; and long history of creating art for children and families. His album Family Time was #1 on the Reggae Charts, #2 on the Kids' Charts, and won a Grammy for Best Children's Album, as well as an Emmy for Outstanding Original Song for the video from "I Love You Too." Marley performed the Arthur theme song, "Believe in Yourself," which played at the top of every episode over its 25-year run, and he has appeared on children's television shows like Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and Chopped Junior. Furthering his dedication to children's literacy, PAJAMMIN' will join Marley's previous picture books, including Little John Crow, I Love You Too, My Dog Romeo, and Music Is in Everything, on shelves this summer.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

In How Schools Make Race: Teaching Latinx Racialization in America, (Harvard Education PR, 2024) Laura C. Chávez-Moreno uncovers the process through which schools implicitly and explicitly shape their students' concept of race and the often unintentional consequences of this on educational equity. Dr. Chávez-Moreno sheds light on how the complex interactions among educational practices, policies, pedagogy, language, and societal ideas interplay to form, reinforce, and blur the boundaries of racialized groups, a dynamic which creates contradictions in classrooms and communities committed to antiracism. Dr. Chávez-Moreno urges readers to rethink race, to reconceptualize Latinx as a racialized group, and to pay attention to how schools construct Latinidad (a concept about Latinx experience and identity) in relation to Blackness, Indigeneity, Asianness, and Whiteness. The work explores, as an example, how Spanish-English bilingual education programs engage in race-making work. It also illuminates how schools can offer ambitious teachings to raise their students' critical consciousness about race and racialization. Ultimately, Dr. Chávez-Moreno's groundbreaking work makes clear that understanding how our schools teach about racialized groups is crucial to understanding how our society thinks about race and offers solutions to racial inequities. The book invites educators and scholars to embrace ambitious teaching about the ambivalence of race so that teachers and students are prepared to interrogate racist ideas and act toward just outcomes. Escuchar audio

Furthering his dedication to children's literacy, PAJAMMIN' will join Marley's previous picture books, including Little John Crow, I Love You Too, My Dog Romeo, and Music Is in Everything, on shelves this summer.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

We are working in the lab to understand this moment in development, which is called phylotypic. This is something that has been known for over a hundred years. When you see many vertebrate embryos at this early embryonic time point, all embryos look very, very similar. We are extrapolating these ideas to the brain. We have seen that at this time point, the phylotypic period, all brains of these species are very simple but very closely related. We share the same features with a fish or with a gecko or with any other mammalian species at this early time point. We have the same brain with the same genes active and the same cell types involved in it.Dr. Fernando García-Moreno is a neuroscientist whose work explores the deep evolutionary roots of the brain—and what they reveal about identity, complexity, and even the future of technology. From the thalamus to the phylotypic brain, his research uncovers how our most fundamental brain structures co-evolve—and how they shape, and limit, the way we think.
