Cuando hay un gran cambio siempre marca un antes y después. Por ejemplo: antes de la urna opaca Andreu Buenafuente volvía a meter las preguntas leídas dentro de la urna transparente o antes de la urna conejera el Papa Francisco estaba vivo y después no. ¿Qué? ¿Cambia la historia o no? Creo que Berto Romero me daría la razón. El tema del Papa sale en este programa. Se ha muerto y no sabemos si hay uno nuevo. Esto sí que no cambia la historia del ‘Nadie'. Como tampoco lo cambia que Andreu intente hablar con una gaviota, que Berto asegure que no hay gaviotas en Madrid o que no sepamos qué diferencia existe entre telepatía y telequinesia. 171 - Jock Bartley (Firefall) In episode 171 of Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine, host James Patrick Regan speaks with the original guitarist and leader of the band Firefall, Jock Bartley. In their conversation Jock discusses briefly what living in Colorado is like both now and early on… and why he never made the move to LA. Jock tells us about the two most recent Firefall releases both concept albums focusing on the songs of Firefall's contemporary bands that the original members were at times members of. Jock talks about his early musical experiences studying with guitarist Johnny Smith in Colorado Springs on a Gibson ES-140 he bought from Johnny's shop. Jock describes being hired by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris and touring with them. Jock tells us about his guitars: his 1958 Gibson sunburst Les Paul and his 1959 Fender Telecaster as well as a custom Paul Reed Smith that he plays through a Fender Super. Jock then explains the formation of Firefall which was a type of super group for the era and then after the heyday for the band how he kept the band alive to this point. Finally Jock tells us why he's considering selling his ‘58 Les Paul. 170 - Paul Rappaport In episode 170 of “Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine, host James Patrick Regan speaks with guitarist and record company promoter Paul Rappaport who's written a new book that will available April 15th called “Gliders Over Hollywood” In their conversation Paul tells us about his 1962 Gibson Les Paul jr (SG shape) that was given him by Buck Dharma and Blue Oyster Cult, whom we worked with at Columbia Records and he describes how he helped the band. He also shares with us a couple of Gibson Les Paul Reissues, a 1952 Goldtop and a 1959. Paul also discusses his amps. Paul talks about his friends in vintage instruments, producer Perry Margouleff (perrymargouleff.com) and amp builder Mitch Colby (ColbyAmps.com) who are working on the new Sundragon amps with Jimmy Page. Paul tells us about growing up in Downey California and starting on lap steel and eventually moving to guitar and played in the band “the Jades” with his Rickenbacker 6 string that he eventually gave to Elvis Costello. Paul talks about his other passions surfing and his family. Paul tells the story of his punk band “Mogan David and his Winos” which included Harold Bronson of Rhino Records fame. Paul explains how Paul Bloomfield helped him with his guitar playing. Paul then tells us about as a gift from the band Pink Floyd. He got to play with Pink Floyd on stage in London Arena. He'd been working with them since they began on Colombia Records. Again Paul's book is called “Gliders Over Hollywood” and it will be available April 15th. Tony and Brandon describe the models and the woods and electronics used on the guitars and the process to get the wood ready for guitar building (they explain the torrefaction process) and the unique functionality of the electronics. In their conversation Phil talks a little bit about where he lives in Sussex in England and his neighbors David Gilmore, Bill Bruford Then he talks guitars, particularly his Gibson Firebird VII and what he was using for amps back in the day and now and the guitar he's still craving. Phil tells us a bit about his book “50 Years of Music” and what he's using for gear for the book tour and where to get the self published book. Phil describes growing up in Havana Cuba during the revolution… and learning the guitar amongst the chaos. He also describes living in Hawaii just as it became a state and how that inspired a song “Hula Kula” for Roxy Music. Phil describes playing through a Hiwatt amp while Brian Ferry was singing in Roxy Music. Phil tells us about how he ended up in England and how he befriended David Gilmore and he disspells the rumors that he joined Roxy Music initially as a guitar tech. Phil describes being ahead of his time or at least being the cutting edge of fashion and musical trends and how everyone from Roxy Music at this advanced age are still making music and he describes what being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame means to him and the band. In their conversation Brian tells us about his new project, a book documenting his and his business partner Peter Margolis collection of vintage Marshall amplifiers titled “Collecting Loud History”. Brian also tells us about when he started his business restoring vintage Marshall's in the early '80's and how he became an authorized repair person from Jim Marshall. Brian talks about growing up in Western New York working for bands and what brought him to LA. Brian talks about doing tech work on the road with (Carmine Appice's) King Cobra, Richard Marx and REO Speedwagon and his experiences with Gary Richrath and Dave Amato and how he got Dave hooked on vintage gear. He also tells us about working for David Lee Roth. Brian describes his collection of guitars and amps and his rental business renting Marshall's for studio work and Marshall prop gear for music videos and tv shows. Brian tells us about who he uses to service the electronic parts of his Marshall's, Bob Bradshaw, Roy Blankenship and Doug Anderson. Brian describes the Marshall amp he's still looking for… and he also describes the Marshall serial number code and how that relates to the age of the amp. Brian tells us about the copious notes he took along the way that helps him identify the true age and whether or not the amp has been tampered with.
