Have you ever thought about your Core Values as an Athlete? If not, we're going to focus on them in today's episode of the Strong Athletic Podcast. Core Values are your key beliefs in sports. Sometimes we're just playing sports and we don't really know why we're there, why we stay, or why we would leave. As athletes it's important for us to know this information, because it can be our "go to" when times get hard. We focus on how communication can lead to positive changes for both coaches and athletes. In this episode we discuss questions 11-14 from "The List" that was introduced in Episode 1. These questions have to do with being on a team, having teammates and also having coaches. We discuss why athletes need to pay attention to their own performance and not judge their teammates. We discuss Invisible Illnesses that impact athletes. We cover an issue that was impacting an athlete's performance during practice, yet their coach and teammates were unaware of it and so they didn't get the support they needed at first. This is an issue that Strong Athletic is interested in. Many people in the Strong Athletic Community have an Invisible Illness and that is why we created the Strong Athletic Chronically Ill shirt, after Ashley, aka Killa, from Windy City Rollers made the request. We touch on "body bias" in sports and how society wants us to believe that there is a certain "athletic body" and otherwise if you don't have it, you shouldn't use the term "athlete". Strong Athletic STRONGLY DISAGREES with this sentiment. We're going to do a podcast on this in the future and if you'd like to contribute in any way we want to hear from you. The "List" is 20 questions that we want you to consider when you are at turning points in your sports career and you need to make sure you're there for the right reasons. The Tip of the Episode has to do with the amount of time you spend coaching in relation to the amount of time the athletes spend practicing during practice. The Question of the Episode has to do with sports teams that have athletes that are at all different levels in ability.
