Happy Hump Day, yo. Last day in the 70's for awhile. Looking at temps in the mid-to-upper 90's this weekend. Uffdah. Started the morning by talking about the death of celebrity chef Anne Burrell…a lawsuit against Tyler Perry…a Breyer's recall…and a report that most Americans get their news from social media. In sports, the Brewers dropped the series opener to the Cubs last night, the Panthers beat the Oilers to capture a consecutive Stanley Cup, the NBA Finals continue tonight, Tyrese Haliburton has to get an MRI on his calf, and Carson Hocevar was penalized for his comments about Mexico City last weekend. Elsewhere in sports, there's a new PGA Tour Commissioner, and the Tyreke Hill/Noah Lyles race is off, apparently. We talked about what's on TV today, and we discussed a list of cheap hobbies you can pick-up during the summer. A new study finds that 24% of Americans want to take a break from sex for some reason, and there's one trait that has the power to make you happier for the rest of your life! Funny story about a 102 year-old woman who wanted a stripper for her birthday recently…and check out these mowing companies in Kansas that got together to help their community! Father's Day was this weekend and a baseball team in Japan wanted to celebrate dads by asking their fans to share stories involving their dad & the baseball team…and it kinda backfired. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy who tried to kill his friend with a wooden stake because he thought his friend was a werewolf, a woman who legally married her ex without him knowing,See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Can women take a career pause without losing their ambition—or themselves?Neha Ruch, founder of Mother Untitled – a platform dedicated to supporting women navigating career pauses and caregiving with clarity, confidence, and ambition – explores the deeply personal and often unspoken challenges modern mothers face today. Neha opens up about her own journey leaving a high-powered tech career to become a full-time parent—and how that decision sparked a redefinition of what success truly means. She shares the emotional complexity of motherhood, letting go of guilt around childcare and building a support system for your children, the importance of financial independence, and how career breaks can become a time of intentional personal growth rather than a step backward. Overall, she believes, investing in yourself is not selfish. Sabbaticals, break weeks, and paid vacation, oh my! For many, the idea of taking a break from work is daunting. With the disruption in the work environment, how will anything get done? As he prepares his own upcoming sabbatical, David Bryfman discusses the role that rest plays in the workplace with Josh Feldman, CEO and founder of R&R: The Rest of our Lives. In a time marked by burnout and uncertainty, especially in the nonprofit world, stepping back is more necessary than ever. Josh suggests that it isn't productive to be productive all of the time; a runner doesn't sprint for a whole race, they have disciplined places of sprint, of walk, and of stillness. How can we incorporate stillness into our work? Furthermore, Josh reminds the audience of the Jewishness of rest, and how we can be inspired by the Sabbath and the shmita year. David and Josh challenge the audience to think about when work gets done, and when it doesn't. This episode was produced by Dina Nusnbaum and Miranda Lapides. The show's executive producers are David Bryfman, Karen Cummins, and Nessa Liben. This episode was engineered and edited by Nathan J. Vaughan of NJV Media. In this heartfelt discussion, Travis and Rob tackle the psychological side of content creation that often goes unmentioned beneath the surface-level metrics and strategies. When a viewer asks about niching down their history animation channel, the conversation reveals something deeper than just topic selection—it highlights the delicate balance between creative passion and audience-building. Rob shares a personal insight: "I will consume anything about World War II, but have far less interest in the French Revolution." This simple preference demonstrates why creators must find the intersection between what excites them and what builds a consistent audience. The most powerful segment emerges when discussing a creator who experienced viral success right before vacation, then returned unable to recapture their motivation. As Travis notes, "You have to disconnect your self-worth from view counts," highlighting the dangerous trap many creators fall into. The numbers game becomes a rollercoaster of emotion—when videos perform well, you feel invincible; when they struggle, worthless. This emotional cycle burns creators out faster than any algorithm change ever could. We also explore fascinating technical questions about viewer spikes, audience demographics, and when to revive dormant channels versus starting fresh. Each question peels back another layer of the creator experience, revealing that success often requires as much psychological resilience as it does strategic thinking.Whether you're struggling with burnout, confused by analytics, or simply trying to find your place in the creator ecosystem, this episode offers both practical wisdom and emotional validation. As Rob concludes with his word of wisdom: "Keep creating, no matter the challenges. You've got this."
In this heartfelt and candid episode, Andrew, Dylan, and Aubrey come together to share some important news with their listeners—Your Friendly Neighborhood Gamers will be taking a break. The crew opens up about the challenges of balancing life's big changes, shifting priorities, and how their relationship with content creation has evolved over time. They discuss what led them to this decision, reflect on the journey so far, and explain what this hiatus means for their podcast, YouTube channel, and community going forward.Listeners are assured that the existing content will stay available, and the Discord community will remain active. The group expresses gratitude for the support and camaraderie they've found along the way, sharing hopes that after some time away, they'll return with renewed creativity and fresh ideas. It's an honest, thoughtful conversation about recognizing limits, valuing creativity, and appreciating the wonderful community that's sprung up around the show.Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the podcast, this episode offers a behind-the-scenes look at the realities of indie content creation, the importance of mental health, and the genuine bonds formed through a shared love of gaming.Support the show

We've been making some big decisions this week. Juggling so many things, it's been so important to step back and consider the best way to move forward. Often times it's so easy to get wrapped up in the chaos, and not realize that fatigue and burnout has taken over. As parents and professionals we can spread ourselves too thin, and not realize we're giving 5% of ourselves to 100 things instead of focusing on doing a few things amazingly well. We think it's important for everyone to read those signs, and take a break when self care and time to refocus is needed. Rearranging thoughts, and taking time consider next steps is a much needed step. That creeping feeling as May 1st hits—summer's around the corner and suddenly you're faced with a decision: double down on restrictions before Memorial Day or table your goals until September. Sound familiar? In this episode we dive into:• Why the "I need a break from tracking" mindset might actually be self-sabotage in disguise• How to modify your approach instead of abandoning it completely• The psychological tax you pay when kicking goals down the road• Why maintaining through summer is a massive win most people overlookThe Break Mindset Trap• You find yourself thinking "I need a break" precisely when you haven't seen the progress you expected• That feeling of burnout usually comes from misalignment between your expectations and results• What you're often really saying is: "I want a break from accountability," not effort• The false belief that tracking and enjoyment are mutually exclusive is setting you up for failureThe Modifier's Approach• Tracking isn't all-or-nothing—it's a dial you can adjust based on your season of life• Simple modifications like tracking only protein or just weekend meals maintain awareness• Pre-planning indulgences creates freedom within structure• The calculated sacrifice: intentionally compromise on some areas to protect what matters mostThe September Tax• The real cost of "taking summer off" isn't just potential weight gain• You're sacrificing months of self-awareness and education about your relationship with food• The most successful clients transition from "Focus Phase" (deficit) to "Freedom Phase" (maintenance)• Maintaining is actually actually harder than dieting—that's the skill worth masteringThis conversation reminds us that your health doesn't take a summer vacation just because the calendar changes. Whether you're tempted to slam on the brakes until September or feeling frustrated that May 1st doesn't match your January vision, this episode offers the practical insights and emotional permission to embrace modification over abandonment.Looking for more on this topic? Don't worry - we're both active on our facebook.com/travelswithrandypodcast page and plan to keep everyone updated and informed throughout the spring and summer and Randy may even put some of his fantastic photography up for sale and Bubba may list many of his travel and National Park books for sale there as well. This past week Randy returned home to Washington from his month long trip up and down the Mississippi river and to several baseball stadiums to watch his Angels play. In one month, he and Snuffy drove over 9,000 miles sheesh! Conversations were then had about having an AI buddy along for the trip and Randy's future plans for travel. Come join the conversation on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/travelswithrandypodcast Have a great idea for the guys? Want to sponsor us? Want to be a guest? Physician assistant David Olson discusses his article, "Taking a break from medicine: a journey to rediscover joy and purpose." He describes feeling trapped in an unhealthy, borderline abusive relationship with medicine, citing normalized disrespect, intense pressure from employers focused on metrics over provider wellbeing, and the demoralizing impact of system failures, particularly during and after COVID-19. David shares his experiences with dwindling job satisfaction as a hospitalist facing staffing instability and later in the "wasteland" of primary care, highlighting how burnout severely affected his marriage and his relationship with his children, leaving him exhausted and short-tempered. Realizing incremental changes weren't enough, David and his wife made the drastic decision to take a year-long break from medicine to travel the world with their three young children, prioritizing family, joy, and quality of life over salary. This journey is his attempt to rediscover purpose and hope, offering encouragement to other health care professionals facing similar struggles to challenge limiting beliefs and consider bold changes for their own well-being. Rachel Trotta highlights how life's constant interruptions, vacations, injuries, and work stress aren't exceptions but the norm. Instead of pausing progress every time life gets hectic, learning to “downshift” allows for consistent growth, no matter the circumstances. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://racheltrotta.com/fitness/shifting-gears-vs-taking-brak/ Quotes to ponder: "This is so weird! My life is never like this! Actually, it's always been like this, and it will always be like this. You just never noticed." "You will only get to your destination in a timely manner if you understand how to downshift."
