In 1965, Emilio Castillo took to music after he and his brother Jack were caught stealing by his father who told him he could stay in his room until he thought of something to 'Keep him off the street'. Castillo and his brother chose music. Emilio chose saxophone and Jack chose drums. He took lessons in saxophone, piano, and guitar, and also took lessons in music theory from one-time Dave Brubeck bass player Norman Bates. His first musical endeavor was in Extension Five which later became The Gotham City Crime Fighters due to the Batman craze at the time. He played both organ and sax. The group also consisted of his brother Jack on drums, Jody Lopez on guitar Frank “Rocco' Houghton on bass (later going by the name of Francis Rocco Prestia), and Dave Getner on vocals. In March, 1966 they released the song "Who Stole The Batmobile" After seeing Bay Area soul band The Spyders, Castillo switched to saxophone and formed 'The Motowns' playing soul music covers. After meeting baritone sax player Stephen "Doc" Kupka Castillo switched, on Kupka's suggestion, to performing original material and the band changed its name to 'Tower of Power'. The band recorded their first album, East Bay Grease, in 1970. Castillo has been with the band ever since, as leader and 2nd tenor saxophonist. He and Kupka are also responsible for writing many of the band's best-known songs. Emilio openly talks about the importance of getting sober and how that motivated him to live his life with principals first. His approach now with Tower of Power is, “I want people to say that we have super high musicality played by 10 principled men. His final story about playing with the Rolling Stones is priceless. YJHTL sincerely thanks Emilio Castillo for sharing his heart and soul that has given the world 54 Funky years of Tower of Power. towerofpower.com

In this episode, former pro Ryan Roth recounts his big win in northern France. In 2012, the rider from Kitchener, Ont., won Tro Bro Léon, a race that features gravel sectors called ribinoù. Its famous prize is a pig, however, Roth didn't leave the podium with livestock. No, the pig goes to the best-placed rider from Brittany, the region within which Tro Bro is held.Tro Bro can be a chaotic race. Riders, sport directors and race officials each often have only a partial picture of what's going on at a given time. Remembering how a race played out after a space of 10 years can be tricky, especially with an event as tough as Tro Bro. For some extra perspective on the race, Kevin Field, Roth's sport director on SpiderTech powered by C10, shares his recollections from 2012 as well. The show starts with a current race: the Giro d'Italia. Alex Cataford of Israel-Premier Tech talks about the opening stages of this year's Italian Grand Tour and gives a few hints as to what might lie ahead for the Ottawa rider. For more on Roth and his 2012 Tro Bro Léon—including video of the rider checking with the race moto to confirm that, in fact, he was about to win the race—read his story “No, I didn't win a pig.”

On my website, under Resources, you're going to see BDUtensils, and there's something called Triage Visual that you can go to and take look at. If you don't have a game plan, that's got to be one of your triage areas. Figure out what those three areas are. This week on The Download: potential new IAB standards are revealed, advertisers reflect on a year of iOS-enforced privacy, and Facebook is losing the confidence of its customers. Last Thursday Ryan Barwick, writing for MarketingBrew, published a look at some promising new standards the IAB Tech Lab is toying with in anticipation of a, as Barwick puts it, “cookieless future.” With the evolution of online privacy advertising must change with it, and the IAB is experimenting with replacing existing data-collection structures with seller-defined audiences, or SDAs. Instead of adtech using tracking methods to use collected data to serve certain ads to certain users, publishers would use first-party data to decide how to categorize their own audience and take ads targeting those categories. Quoting the article: “Using this data, SDAs would, theoretically, let publishers place their audiences into groups—whether by behavior or interest—which would then be shared with advertisers to help them run targeted programmatic ads. So far, there are roughly 1,600 available labels for publishers to choose from.” Barwick and others at MarketingBrew have taken a liking to the hyper-specific example label of “potatoes/onions” as an example of how granular the SDA system would be if fully implemented. Michael Nuzzo, Vice President and head of Hearst data solutions at Hearst Magazines is quoted from the IAB Tech Lab event in February: “It's a very positive indication that publishers are gaining more control in the open web. We were only seen as supply. Now, we're seen as supply, identity partners, as well as data providers, and that's an exciting shift.” This signals a significant boon for podcasting. The IAB has created a world where podcast producers determine their audiences and present them to advertisers. An open world with power in the hands of producers is a good thing. Last Thursday Digiday's Kimeko McCoy published an article covering the thoughts of advertisers on the anniversary of Apple publishing the industry-changing iOS 14. “In this last year, Apple's crackdown on in-app tracking upended the digital advertising industry and crippled advertisers' ability to know whether their mobile ads were working. It forced them to look elsewhere to spend their dollars.” iOS 14, along with other similar privacy-boosting offerings from web browsers and Android devices, changed the game. Platforms reliant on the old buffet of collectable data have had issues adjusting, as we'll cover in a Facebook-heavy story shortly. “But those 12 months of acclimating to these shifts have made it clear to media buyers that Apple's ATT is an attribution problem, not an advertising one. In other words, the effectiveness of advertising hasn't gone away as a result of it being harder to track people. But it has become more difficult to know how effective those ads are.” McCoy's reporting paints a promising future. Every step the industry takes in this direction is a glowing endorsement for podcasting. While the rank-and-file are just now dealing with tricky attribution, this industry has been successfully serving ads with tricky end-game attribution for the better part of a decade. On Monday AdExchanger's James Hercher published “Facebook Advertisers are Itching for Change as Bugs Infest Its Attribution Tech.” The piece begins with an anecdotal story of a marketer beset with costly glitches in the aging platform's adtech. Things don't get much better for Meta from there. Quoting the article: “Facebook is heads-down trying to fix the ad platform as gears and springs fly out of it like a cartoon pocket watch.” Facebook faces huge troubles as its advertising empire built on a tracking pixel now has to operate in a world where said pixel can't immediately report back data on a user browsing outside websites. Instead of instantaneous granular updates, Facebook adtech operates in batch updates once every few days. “Facebook's consistent response has been to be patient and, well, to slow down. In February, Facebook acknowledged that it was still underreporting attribution, but said it had cut the error margin from 15% to 8%. Says who?” Walled gardens, especially Facebook, are starting to show cracks in their foundations and are losing the faith of buyers as they struggle to course-correct for industry-wide changes. Facebook may have tapped out of the podcasting game entirely, but we still have Spotify. What has happened to the likes of Google and Meta could happen to Spotify in the future. Especially now that they've purchased some of the biggest names in podcast data attribution, setting themselves up as potential gatekeepers of proprietary data not wholly dissimilar to Facebook. Speaking of attribution tech: This Thursday BusinessWire revealed Veritonic's new audio-first Attribution solution. Exact details are thin on the ground in the press release but Veritonic is confident its new attribution solution - simply called Attribution - will be an advertiser's best friend. A quote from Veritonic CEO Scott Simonelli: “As advertising dollars increasingly flow into audio, brands need the assurance that only Veritonic's end-to-end measurement and analytics can provide. Attribution is the perfect addition to our platform of audio research and measurement solutions, providing data-driven advertisers, brands, and agencies with the tools and insights they need to optimize their campaigns for greater ROI.” The press release promises Attribution will do the basic ad-tech things one would expect, tracking potential customers when they land on a campaign's bespoke URL until they leave or purchase the relevant item. It's nothing too flashy or industry-shattering from a technology standpoint, but the important context to consider is that Veritonic became the first company to get to market since Spotify's acquisition of Chartable and Podsights. Spotify created a power vacuum in reliable third-party attribution. Now companies are stepping up to fill that gap. With that, it's time for our semi-regular roundup of articles that didn't make it into today's episode, but are still worth working into your weekend reading. First: Facebook Pulls the Plug on Podcast Business After a Year by Ashley Carman. And, second: Anchor co-founder Michael Mignano to leave Spotify by Ariel Shapiro. As always, the links to every article mentioned on an episode of The Download can be found in the episode details. Finally, a quick roundup of the finance-related news this week that's worth discussing, but not big enough to necessitate individual stories.. First up: James Hercer - in a rare three-time appearance in one episode of The Download - covers the Amazon earnings call last Friday. Amazon posted a 3.8 billion net loss in Q1 of this year, though reported a 25% year-over-year increase in advertising revenue. Following that we have Ted Gioia's Sunday issue of The Honest Broker titled Spotify Shares Now Selling at Less Than the IPO Price 4 Years Ago. While an aggressive headline, Gioia's coverage takes care to point out the lower share price is likely due to Spotify's growth not being as world-dominating as expected, posting a 25% gross profit margin. --- The Download is a production of Sounds Profitable. Today's episode was hosted byShreya Sharma and Manuela Bedoya, and the script was written by Gavin Gaddis. WELCOME BACK TO ONE OF THE TOP 40 RANKED "MUST FOLLOW IN 2020-2022" PODCASTS According to Multiple Online Websites! Today's show is a special one that I consider to be on my list of "THE BEST OF PURE EVIL MMA PODCAST" And it is from 2017! FLASHBACK SEPTEMBER 29TH 2017 the UFC just headlined UFC 215 Nunes vs Valentina Shevchenko 2 and Jon Jones Finished Daniel Cormier in their rematch fight at UFC 214 with a kick to the head followed by a true PEAK Beatdown from Jones Bones. The MMA community was in its post-McGregor hype and new MMA fans were coming out of every direction making Twitter accounts and trying their best to act like they had been long time fans, the MMA Podcast scene saw a huge rise in new talents as The Fighter And The Kid was at the height of its popularity along with Joe Rogans Fight Companion (if I remember correctly). Suddenly out of nowhere MMA fans began retweeting and sharing with all their friends and fighters these crazy accurate but Flying Circus-type portraits of every upcoming or post-fight and even some popular MMA news being made by a man that no one had ever heard before named Mojahed Fudailat! With a few years under my belt and after finishing broadcasting school I couldn't help myself from reaching out to Mojahed Fudailat to ask for an interview with him about all the success and recognition he was getting in what seemed like an overnight permanent trend that would make so many of us get a good laugh after our long weeks struggling day to day threw life with only MMA being our go-to medicine. These animated shorts were not just stupid parodies but he really nailed down the tiniest of details in every video that showed how well he had been following every headline and picking up on some of the smaller type headlines or stupid actions made by fighters and adding them into these animations. It was the perfect storm at the time due to how strict the MMA community was getting with so many new faces acting like they had been around MMA forever but Mojahed Fudailat putting the tiniest details into every single video he put out only gave him the nod from the biggest names inside the scene like Joe Rogan, Tyron Woodley, and even Dana White Himself! Once I reached out to Mojahed I was honestly surprised by how quickly he was to respond by asking me when we could do it! And to my surprise, no one else had ever even asked him for an interview or to come onto their show for some reason while he was in his prime of gaining millions on millions of views in total from every short animation he was putting out each week! SO HERE YOU GUYS GO WITH ONE OF MY FAVORITE INTERVIEWS OF ALL TIME FROM WAY BACK IN SEPTEMBER OF 2017...5 YEARS AGO!!!! FOR ANY NEW SUBSCRIBERS HERE ON THE PODCAST WHO HAVE BEEN ENJOYING THESE BEST OF EPISODES that are not even listed on my podcast library due to me changing both websites with different RSS FEEDS I WAS USING AT THE TIME and then from me being signed to "AGE OF RADIO" who has been paying me monthly to give you guys this platform as I switched over from paying like $15 a month on PODBEAN where I began that held these DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH that sadly were not brought over when moving my show over here to Megaphone.fm with "Age Of Radio". The official ATP Tour Podcast presented by Seb Lauzier and including interviews and features with...FELICIANO LOPEZ ON MAKING HIS DEBUT IN MADRID 20 YEARS AGO - ‘2002 was an amazing event. Manolo Santana offered me a wildcard, I was a kid, 18 or 19 years old and I won two matches and then ended up playing Andre Agassi, who at that time was one of my idols. I played that match and I played great, pushing him to 7-5 in the third and then he went on to win the tournament'ALEJANDRO DAVIDOVICH FOKINA ON HIS RECENT FORM- ‘I don't think I've showed what is my limit yet and I want to know more about me, what I have inside. I believe now I can win every tournament, my confidence now is so high, but we keep practicing now to see what are my limits and we will see what will happen this week'RAFAEL NADAL ON RETURNING FROM RIB INJURY - ‘Enjoying the fact that I'm back knowing that the situation is not perfect for me with one month and a half with the stress fracture on the rib that's painful and that didn't allow me to practice for a while, so in terms of preparation it's not the ideal thing, but I am just here to try my best. It's not easy to accept every time the challenge, but it's just time to keep going, to stay positive and to find things to be better every day'.DOMINIC THIEM ON RETURNING FROM WRIST INJURY - ‘I'm pain free in all the body now which is very nice. Obviously game-wise there are many things which are not perfect, but that's exactly what I expected and that's why I have to practice everyday. Practice it's going well, but matches are very different, you're way more nervous and tight and with all the moving around, I've lost all this and I've been away for ten months and all the anticipation, reaction time, I have to get it back and that's what I'm trying right now and the first short-term goal is to be in good shape for the French Open as I won't be seeded there'.DANIIL MEDVEDEV ON HIS JOURNEY TO WORLD NUMBER ONE - 'To be honest when I started on the professional tour I couldn't think that I would achieve what I've done, but I always had some self-belief that I could be a good player if I tried my best all the time and when you are 18 that's sometimes what you miss and I try to work on this part of me and later in my career it turned out to be a good thing'.JUAN CARLOS FERRERO ON DEALING WITH PRESSURE - ‘I think you have to be born a little bit with that and it's difficult to teach, because you can talk a lot about this, but I think someone has to have it inside them because in the end you have to go alone to the court and you have to go through these nerves that you have in difficult moments, so you have to go through it for sure'.

The year is 1900. At the turn of the century, Margaret Mitchell was born in Atlanta. She wrote the most famous novel of the time 36 years later. The book was transformed into a great film as well. Despite her success, she endured much physical and emotional anguish. Her story will resonate familiar and sadly for those with fibromyalgia and related problems. I will share her story and struggles. Her biography, written by Darden Asbury Pyron, gives a chronological in-depth look into her life. I have encouraged those struggling with chronic health issues like fibromyalgia to write down their story. As we walk through her journey, I will discuss her symptoms and physical findings, medical assessments, evaluations, and treatments. You will hear in her history how much has not changed, yet much has evolved in our understanding. As a doctor passionate about helping those struggling, I can't help wanting to reach back in time and sit down with her in my clinic. I would have enjoyed spending hours and frequent follow-up visits discussing and working to lessen her mysterious struggles and working to offer relief. Her history gives insight into the limitations of medicine in the first half of the 20th century. Sadly, current sufferers with fibromyalgia will find that they will fit somewhere on the spectrum from never receiving a correct diagnosis and getting proper education and treatment to getting up-to-date education and comprehensive care. Dr. Lenz is an internist, pediatrician, lifestyle medicine physician, and clinical lipidologist with an interest in helping those with fibromyalgia and related problems go beyond just learning to live with it to even reverse fibromyalgia. He is also the author of the book, "Conquering Your Fibromyalgia: Real Answers and Real Solutions for Real Pain. " It is also available on audiobook with Dr. Lenz as the narrator. If you have questions or topics you would like to have discussed on a future podcast, email Dr. Lenz at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also share a recording of your question. If you have a question, it is likely that hundreds of others have the same question. You can also go to Conquerinyourfibromyalgia.com to learn more through blogs that Dr. Lenz has done on fibromyalgia. Remember this podcast is meant for informational purposes only. This episode evolved from a text of a 40 year old hometown newspaper clip that my retired veterinarian sent me and the rest is history. One of the names mentioned in the clip was brought in to help verify the facts about a couple farm boys growing up in the 1980's seeing just how much trouble they could get into. Special thanks to my life long friend Tom Cooley for joining me on this episode.
