In 2006, Chris left a career position in the music industry because he wasn't feeling fulfilled by the work. In the transition period he thought he would get an interesting job while he figured out what was next in his life. Chris decided to apply for a high rise window cleaning position in Vancouver BC. From his first day cleaning windows, he was hooked. He worked for various companies across Canada, and all the way to Australia. In 2012, he decided to open his own company with a borrowed car, a bucket and a plan. Over the next few years Chris was able to build a profitable local window cleaning company. Until 2015, when a worker nearly fell off the top of a 40' ladder right in front of him. It was at this point when he was forced to reevaluate the industry that he had been working in, with an aim to increase the safety and scalability of his business. Over the next year he helped to design and develop some amazing water fed window cleaning gear, and switched his entire operation over. He also adopted a flat rate pricing structure, and instituted a small call centre to handle incoming calls. His hard work and attention to detail when building his brand paid off. Over the next two years, he grew Elite Window Cleaning from a small company to a $1M plus window cleaning operation. Once he knew that he had figured out the scalability part, he decided to franchise his system. Chris now has locations across Ontario, Canada with an aim to be the largest franchise window cleaning operation in the country. On this week's episode, we have on Andy Misiura of Kahuna Window Cleaning. Andy is the oldest of six in his family. He was homeschooled growing up. He then started his business with his best friend in 2007. He grew his business while serving in the Army National Guard from 2010 to 2016. This year he hit a number of milestones including nine trucks, and 2200 customers serviced. Hobbies and things he enjoys are: Reading, psychology, leadership, traveling, disc golf, and his Minnesota Vikings. Having the freedom to long-term travel during the offseason is what excites him and keeps him motivated. Dan is the CEO of Blue Skies Services, a unicorn in the home service industry. Blue Skies operates cleaning companies in 4 different locations across the US, including both interior (maid service) and exterior (windows, gutters, siding, roofs) cleaning companies, as well as an administrative service company that helps other operators in the service industry with recruiting, bookkeeping, and marketing. Dan happens to be a bit of a RED-neck, beard turning WHITE, BLUE collar accounting nerd, and you can often times find him multitasking on his quickbooks app from a tree stand or boat. Dan is obsessive about 2 things: 1) helping other business owners work through the same challenges that Blue Skies has had to work through over the years, and 2) teaching his daughters the right way to jig a for a walleye and hold it way out when taking a picture SO IT LOOKS BIGGER.
