Dave’s guest is Quincy Newell, currently the Chief Content Officer at REIGN, a premium on demand streaming service that delivers curated African American and urban culture themed content. Reign is but the latest chapter in Quincy’s long, distinguished career in the entertainment business working across music, television and film at companies like Codeblack, Lionsgate, Rhino Entertainment and Urbanworks Entertainment working with folks like Kevin Hart, Alicia Keys, Robert Townsend, Shaquille O’Neal and Forest Whitaker just to name a few. 

Dave’s guest is Betsy Hodges, an activist, writer, teacher and former politician – most notably as mayor of Minneapolis where she served from 2014 to 2018 in a term that was marked in part by controversial police shootings and their aftermath during the early years of the #blacklivesmatter movement. Betsy speaks openly about her own history of childhood sexual abuse and path to sobriety as a young adult. She is a passionate advocate for social justice and honest dialogue about race in our society. 

Dave’s guests are Eric Lockley, an award-winning actor, writer, comedian and producer and Deadria Harrington, a creative producer and artist – these talented multi-hyphenates are part of the current leadership team at The Movement Theatre Company, whose mission is to create an artistic social movement by developing and producing new work by artists of color that engage audiences in rich theatrical dialogue, enlighten communities about the issues they face, and empower artists to celebrate their unique voices.

Dave’s guest is Donald Jonas, Executive Director of Care Ring, one of the oldest and largest privately-funded health and wellness agencies serving individuals with limited resources in North Carolina. Donald also serves as an adjunct professor at UNC-Charlotte and Queens University of Charlotte. He is passionate about improving the health and life outcomes of those less fortunate.

Dave's guest is David Vine, professor of Anthropology at American University. His absorbing and distressing 2015 book Base Nation: How U.S. Military Bases Abroad Harm America and the World deconstructs the conventional wisdom underpinning our nation’s vast global network of military installations and illuminates the many destructive consequences they cause. 

Dave’s guest is Rob Richie, President and CEO of Fair Vote, a leading non-profit nonpartisan champion of electoral reform here in the US. Fair Vote is probably best known as the driving force behind the Ranked Choice Voting movement. Rob helped co-found FairVote back in 1992 so he’s been engaged in this struggle for more than 25 years.

Dave's guest is Kamal Sinclair who currently serves as the Director of the Sundance Institute’s New Frontier Labs Program, which supports artists working at the convergence of film, art, media and technology – that means things like AR, VR and Data as storytelling mediums. She’s also a consultant to the Ford Foundation's JustFilms program focused on using emerging media as a tool for social justice. She’s been in the art game for a long time wearing many hats – artistic director, writer, producer even dancing in STOMP back in the day. 

Dave's guest is journalist and author Suzy Hansen, whose first book Notes on a Foreign Country: An American Abroad in a Post American World blends personal memoir and historical journalism to reflect on America’s complicated position in the world and the author’s own journey of self-discovery which unfolded over 10 years working and living in Turkey. A 2018 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in General Non-Fiction, Hansen’s honest and compelling book deconstructs American exceptionalism and all the gnarly stuff it has wrought and continues to do so – both abroad, but also here at home. 

Dave’s guest is Sallie Krawcheck, Wall Street veteran turned entrepreneur as the CEO and Co-Founder of Ellevest, a digital investing platform for women. Sallie cut her teeth as one of the most senior women on Wall St. at places like Smith Barney, Merrill Lynch and Citibank before pivoting to a fintech start up, part of a clearly stated life’s mission - to help women reach their financial and professional goals. 

Dave’s guest is social entrepreneur Shawn Dove, currently the CEO of the Campaign for Black Male Achievement (CBMA), a national membership organization dedicated to ensuring the growth, sustainability and impact of leaders and organizations focused on improving the life outcomes of America’s Black men and boys. Prior to the CBMA Shawn worked for over 20 years in youth development, community building and advocacy for children and families.

Dave’s guest is Keith Payne, professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an international leader in the psychology of inequality and discrimination. His fascinating 2017 book The Broken Ladder: How Inequality Affects the Way We Think, Live, and Die explores the ways in which inequality negatively impacts the health and wellness of people at all levels of society. 

Dave’s guest is Josh Lee, co-founder of Green Top Farms -  a small catering company based in Queens specializing in micro-greens and fresh, local produce. In addition to being a passionate advocate for healing our broken food system and launching a start up to tackle that massive problem, Josh is also a girls and boys high school wrestling coach in the South Bronx.

Dave’s guest is Keith A. Wallace, co-creator, writer and performer of The Bitter Game, a powerful multi-character one-man show blending verse, prose, shit-talking and basketball into a stirring commentary that begs the question: what does it mean to survive while Black in America? Keith continues to perform his show across the country including an upcoming run November 14th through 17th at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
