What does it mean to be local, and what are the small things businesses do to have a true sense of self in that space? A few weeks back Wheatland Spring Farm and Brewery in Virginia celebrated seven years of operation with a chill little festival that brought local artisans to its sprawling farmland. To kick off the day owners Bonnie and John Branding invited All About Beer editor John Holl to moderate a “storytelling” panel, where their friends and colleagues from the beer, food, and wine industries could go deep on topics that matter to them. Guests include: John Branding, Rob Rubba of Oyster, Oyster in Washington, DC Christian Gregory of Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen, and Ben Sedlins of Quartzwood Farm Winery. Then we discuss 2024's Y2K and decide yes, sometimes movies have to be good. Stomp a little robot with us as we discuss anti-nostalgia, incredibly quick murder, and foolish look for things like story structure and also jokes.
Every year at Little Beer editor John Holl gets to host a panel with great brewers about how they brew small and what the consumer appetite is like for low ABV offerings. This year was no exception. As the pints were flowing on the Duluth, GA town green he sat down with Natalie Rose Baldwin the brewmaster at the lager-focused Wayfinder Beer in Portland, Oregon; Shaun Yasaki the Brewmaster and owner of Noble Beast Brewing Company in beautiful Cleveland Ohio; and Brandon Plyler the beer educator at Edmund's Oast Brewing in South Carolina. Everything about today's guest is unusual. From writing his first song (which he performed at his high school graduation, unbeknownst to anyone but him) to being in the cast of Stomp before joining O.A.R., to the way he plays guitar, nothing about MikelParis fits into a neat description; with one exception. He's a great guy! He pursued acting before music and played piano in Europe for a year before moving to NYC and joining Stomp. After that, he wound up playing with Pink for a year. Then he found himself auditioning for a band he never heard of called O.A.R. Much like the rest of his life, this was unconventional. But 20 years later, he's still there! He's developed his own unique style of playing guitar that he's dubbed guitar drumming. He tells how that came about and how Folger's coffee played a part. He's released the first in a series of albums. This one is aptly titled, GuitarDrumming 01. It's got some great cameos in it and the music is so unique. Give him a follow @mikelparis on social media. Listen on Spotify and check socials for tour dates for Mikel and O.A.R. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on socials, get merch at perfprmanceanx.threadless.com. #190// What do you see with your eyes closed? What do you see when you allow your spirit to set vision as it's connected to the Spirit of God?Listen, Sister . . . if we're actually going to BEHOLD the things of God in the natural, we've got to get good at seeing it with our spirit first. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to speak to and exhort over 300 women at our REVIVE Woman Conference 2025 about what it looks like to BEHOLD with God... to perceive the new thing He is doing in this coming season (see Isaiah 43:19). The truth is: We BECOME what we BEHOLD!If we are continually beholding our Savior -- the way He walked and talked and related to others -- we will become more and more like Him. If we allow ourselves to behold the negative, the swirl, the chaos or overwhelm, we will continually see that all around us. And here's the part no one wants to say out loud: We can't BECOME on our own because it's hard for us to BEHOLD on our own. We NEED other faith-filled, godly women of purpose around us -- cheering us on, calling us up higher, discipling and challenging us -- for our GOOD and for the GLORY of God!And you better believe the enemy is going to do everything in his power to keep you from beholding. Because he doesn't want you to BECOME! That makes you a BIG threat to his kingdom of darkness. But I've got his schemes in my sight and I'm going to share with you The Four Strategies the Enemy Uses to Keep Us from Beholding:

Let's be clear right off, the title isn't a euphemism. Micheal Fell's dog has many fans in his neighborhood. His dog is large. The kid's want to ride him. We're coming to the end of our time here at Stage 42, and Murray, Michael, Stomp, and Diego take a few minutes here to talk about the few moments in their lives that don't involve D&D. Murray is recording tunes, Diego is contemplating his wardrobe, Micheal is making dog appearances, and Stomp is going to Drag shows. When you feel the future, how do you share that feeling in order to build community? Over the past quarter-century, Best — first as an actor, musician, and performer, and later as an Afrofuturist scholar and lecturer — has worked to answer that question. Drawing on his experiences as a cast member on the award-winning percussion performance Stomp, as Jar-Jar Binks, the ground-breaking first major CGI character actor in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and as a lecturer at the Stanford d.school and one of the leaders of the AfroRithms Futures Group. By bringing people together through electrifying performance and thought-provoking conversation, Best's work has been able to make the future not just an abstract, intellectual consideration but something that can be felt in collective experience. The core of Ahmed's argument? Feeling is a form of communication in itself, beyond words — and only by taking action and sharing our feelings of the future with each other in our communities can we create the futures we want for ourselves. Using a diverse range of creative and imaginative tactics, Best incorporates play and motion in order to help audiences Feel The Future. In his Long Now Talk, Best is joined on stage in conversation with Long Now Board Member Lisa Kay Solomon. As a Futurist in Residence at the Stanford d.school, Solomon teaches classes like “Inventing the future” and “View from the future,” to help leaders and learners learn skills to anticipate and adapt to increasingly complex futures. Lisa recently joined the board of the Long Now Foundation, and is passionate about helping infusing futures thinking and practices into both classrooms and board rooms. This talk was presented February 14, 02025 at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco. Episode notes: https://longnow.org/ideas/feel-the-future/
