What does it really take to overcome rejection, self-doubt, mental health struggles, and still perform at the highest level? In this episode of The A Game Podcast, Nick Lamagna sits down with Elec Simon - world-renowned percussionist, former STOMP performer, professional event MC, motivational speaker, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitor, and entrepreneur - for one of the most emotional and inspiring conversations we've ever recorded. Elec opens up about growing up watching his mother struggle financially, the audition that got him cut from STOMP just days before opening night, the suicidal thoughts he battled during his darkest moments, and the phone call two years later that brought him back for good. He shares how faith, family, and gratitude pulled him through, why he now speaks in schools nationwide on anti-bullying, and how jiu-jitsu became an outlet for his anger and anxiety. Elec also gets candid about the entrepreneurship hustle culture - why "get rich quick" mastermind influencers are misleading people, why there's no shame in working a W-2 while building your dream, and what real mentorship from people like Mark Evans, Bobby Castro, and Lewis Howes actually looks like. In this episode you'll discover: ✅How Elec went from busking in NYC subways to becoming a full-time STOMP performer ✅How he manages anxiety, mental health struggles, and self-doubt while performing for thousands ✅Why authenticity matters more than fame when building your circle of mentors ✅The truth about fake "gurus" and predatory masterminds in the coaching industry ✅How Brazilian Jiu Jitsu became a tool for emotional healing ✅Balancing a 9-5 with a thriving entertainment career This isn't just a story about success. It's about resilience, perseverance, gratitude, faith, discipline, and discovering purpose through life's hardest moments. In this weird news segment, Steve Stevens shares a surprising ant fact that changes the way many people think about pest control. According to an ant biology expert, squishing ants can make the problem worse because the insects release pheromones that signal the rest of the colony. The conversation explains how worker ants respond to that distress signal by rushing in to remove the body, which can quickly lead to more ants appearing in the same area. The segment also covers practical advice for dealing with ants, including gently removing them, blocking entry points, and wiping surfaces with lemon juice or vinegar. The discussion ends with a humorous admission that most people probably still won't be gently relocating ants anytime soon. It's a short, funny, and useful reminder that sometimes the simplest reaction is not the best one.
Turnbuckle Tavern is powered by G FUEL and Official Dick Lazer. Use code TAVERN for 20% off at GFUEL.com and DickLazers.com. Episode 194 is headlined by the return of Saturday Night's Main Event to Madison Square Garden, CM Punk's candid comments about WWE's backstage culture, the surprise return of Baron Corbin, and the official start of NJPW's G1 Climax 36 as one of wrestling's biggest weeks of the summer unfolds. We begin in WWE, where CM Punk sat down with Stephanie McMahon for one of his most revealing interviews since becoming Undisputed WWE Champion. Punk discusses why he believes WWE needs to do a better job providing constructive feedback to its talent, why too many wrestlers care more about social media reactions than live crowd responses, and why both performers and producers share responsibility for developing the next generation. We also discuss Punk's praise for WWE's current leadership, why he hopes future wrestlers work fewer dates while making more money than previous generations, and his emotional reflections on winning the Undisputed WWE Championship in his hometown of Chicago. Plus, Punk explains why watching John Cena and AJ Styles retire has motivated him to continue wrestling at the highest level as he prepares for SummerSlam. We also preview Saturday Night's Main Event XLV, as WWE brings one of its most historic television franchises back to Madison Square Garden for the first time since 2007. We look at the show's rich history dating back to 1985, how it became one of the defining programs of wrestling's boom period, and why WWE continues embracing its classic presentation today. We also preview CM Punk and Cody Rhodes taking on Gunther and Sami Zayn, Bayley facing Lyra Valkyria, Danhausen battling JD McDonagh in a No Disqualification Match, the Bella Twins defending the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, and Roman Reigns' appearance alongside 2026 NBA Champion Jalen Brunson at The World's Most Famous Arena. We also discuss the surprise return of Baron Corbin, who made his first WWE television appearance since his release at the end of 2024 by attacking Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams on SmackDown. Corbin laid out both men with End of Days before holding the United States Championship high above his head, immediately establishing himself as a new challenger. We also examine Corbin's run on the independent scene as Bishop Dyer, his MLW Tag Team Championship reign alongside Donovan Dijak, and his brief AEW appearance earlier this year before returning to WWE. Roman Reigns also had plenty to say following Monday's heated contract signing with Seth Rollins. After Rollins stood tall by delivering a Stomp on Raw, Reigns fired back on social media, claiming every major accomplishment of Rollins' career happened because of him while warning that The Bloodline could "end" him for the disrespect. We discuss the latest chapter in one of WWE's greatest rivalries and what it means heading into their World Heavyweight Championship match at SummerSlam. We also discuss the latest speculation surrounding Bayley's WWE future after Mercedes Moné once again fueled rumors with another social media tease. Following Bayley's Raw confrontation with Lyra Valkyria, Moné posted an hourglass GIF just weeks after sharing a WrestleDream graphic featuring herself against Bayley under her real name, Davina Rose. We discuss why fans continue to speculate about Bayley's future while emphasizing that there is currently no confirmation she is leaving WWE or signing with AEW. Over in AEW, one of the biggest stories isn't happening inside the ring but in the courtroom. Paramount Skydance's proposed $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is facing a major legal challenge after a coalition of 12 state attorneys general filed a federal antitrust lawsuit seeking to block the merger. Led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, the states argue the deal would combine two of Hollywood's five largest studios, reducing competition while leading to higher prices, fewer theatrical releases, and less content. Paramount maintains the merger is pro-competitive, expects to receive final European Union approval on July 22, and is still targeting a September closing despite the lawsuit. We discuss why the case could have long-term implications for AEW, whose multi-year media rights agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery includes Dynamite on TBS, Collision on TNT, and streaming on Max. While nothing changes for AEW today and its current television deal remains fully intact, the lawsuit creates uncertainty surrounding the future ownership of AEW's broadcast partner and what that could mean whenever the company's next media rights negotiations begin. Over in AEW, the company heads to Boston riding significant momentum after Beach Break delivered its largest television audience in years. We break down Wrestlenomics reporting that Beach Break averaged 773,000 viewers, up 22 percent from the previous week while finishing No. 4 on cable in the key demographic. We also discuss Fightful Select's report that AEW officials were thrilled with both the television numbers and Kenny Omega versus MJF, along with confirmation that the match's memorable table spot paid tribute to Mick Foley's iconic Mankind bump. Looking ahead to Dynamite, Kenny Omega celebrates becoming a two-time AEW World Champion as AEW continues building toward Redemption later this month, while WrestleTix reports Boston ticket sales have climbed to 2,628 distributed. We also discuss Hangman Page's emotional return to AEW Collision after nearly four months away. Reflecting on his inability to ever challenge for the AEW World Championship again following his Revolution loss to MJF, Page made it clear he's turning his attention toward new goals, teasing future pursuits of Kevin Knight's TNT Championship and Kyle Fletcher's International Championship as he begins the next chapter of his AEW career. From there, we head to New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where G1 Climax 36 is officially underway. We recap opening night from Chicago as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji defeated Konosuke Takeshita in the main event to earn his first two tournament points alongside Jake Lee, Yuto-Ice, Hirooki Goto, Ryohei Oiwa, Aaron Wolf, OSKAR, Zack Sabre Jr., and Callum Newman. We discuss the early standings, Gabe Kidd's visa-related absence, the history and prestige of the G1 Climax, and preview another loaded weekend of tournament action. Plus, we preview the week ahead across professional wrestling, including AEW Dynamite featuring Kenny Omega's World Championship Celebration, NXT, AAA on FOX, AEW Collision, TNA Impact, the opening week of G1 Climax 36, Saturday Night's Main Event from Madison Square Garden, and everything else to watch across WWE, AEW, NJPW, TNA, AAA, and the NWA. Hverafugl kallast ný hátíð sem sett verður í Hveragerði í næstu viku. Þar hafa listrænir stjórnendur, þau Halldór Smárason, Ingibjörg Ýr Skarphéðinsdóttir og Lilja María Ásmundsdóttir stefnt saman tónlistarfólki úr ólíkum kimum tónlistarsenunnar. Hátíðin hefur verið lengi í undirbúningi með heimafólki og hluti efnisskránnar er tónlist tengd svæðinu en tónleikar munu einnig spretta upp á óvæntum stöðum um bæinn. Við ræðum við Ingibjörgu Ýr í þættinum. Arnhildur Pálmadóttir var útnefnd borgarlistamaður Reykjavíkur þetta árið við hátíðlega athöfn í Höfða í gær, og mun það vera í fyrsta sinn sem arkitekt hlotnast sá heiður. Við höfum átt nokkur góð samtöl hér í þættinum við Arnhildi í gegnum tíðina, og við rifjum upp brot úr einu slíku. Stomp Clap Hey er hugtak yfir tónlistarfyrirbæri sem netverjar keppast nú um að skilgreina sem og að stimpla tiltekna listamenn með. Þetta á við um tónlist sem sækir í akústísk hljóðfæri, kassagítara, kontrabassa, bongótrommur, tambúrínur og þar fram eftir götunum og einkennast lög, sem tilheyra þessari tónlistarstefnu, gjarnan af stappi, klappi og samsöng þar sem orðið hey er kallað inn í tónlistina. What if there was literally a plastic spoon's worth of microplastics sitting inside your brain right now? In this jaw-dropping and deeply urgent solo episode, Darin Olien breaks down the newest science on microplastics, nanoplastics, brain accumulation, neuroinflammation, endocrine disruption, and the rapidly escalating contamination of the human body. Referencing groundbreaking new research published in Nature Medicine and newly launched U.S. government initiatives, Darin exposes how plastics are no longer just an environmental issue—they are now a human biology issue. Inside our brains. Inside our blood vessels. Inside unborn children. But while the scale of the problem is staggering, the solution begins with everyday choices. What you drink from. What you heat your food in. What you filter. What you buy. Your body is not a landfill—and reclaiming your health starts with refusing to treat it like one." In the latest episode of Small Market Bias, host Paul Garcia discussed the following topics: (00:47) The San Antonio Spurs took over in the second half to end the Minnesota Timberwolves' season in six games, as the Spurs won comfortably by 30 points. (04:08) Stephon Castle had the best playoff game of his career to lead the Spurs, as he, De'Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Victor Wembanyama, and Julian Champagnie were just too much for the Wolves' defense. (10:31) Speaking of defense, the Spurs once again made it tough for Minnesota on that end of the floor, making scoring in the paint difficult once more, while continuing to limit the Wolves on the offensive glass. (17:03) Looking ahead to the schedule for the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, where they'll face the Oklahoma City Thunder, beginning Monday, May 18. Well, in this episode we dig into our Kansas City Roots. We go to Kansas City in the 1920's where under 'Boss' Pendergast the city was a machine that kept clubs open all night and the liquor flowing. It was a town famous for being a little naive, jazz, good barbecue and something called the Kansas City Stomp. Kansas City had heard rumors of Prohibition and wanted no truck with it. It was into this world that a young man named Charlie Parker, a man who would be nicknamed 'Bird' began to play an alto sax and he would get humiliated and come back stronger. He became a good musician, and then he was in a car accident that broke his ribs and twisted his spine. He was given morphine for the pain and this would start a second addiction, the first was to music. He studied and practiced all he could in recovery and when he emerged he was a different player, he took the town by storm and he would go on to become one of the greats of Jazz and he'd become a big part of a muisc called bebop. So come listen to a local tale of Kansas City and learn how a man became a myth and musical legend in this magical, mythical and musical episode of the Family Plot PodcastBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.
“Do you want to be right or do you want to win? I want to win.” -Will Packer When Will Packer pulls up to The Pivot Podcast, the conversation goes far beyond Hollywood headlines, combining sports and business to one of the most entertaining yet educational episodes we've had. Will unpacks the real story behind his rise—from grinding it out as a young mind at at HBCU to becoming one of the most powerful producers in the game. He shares how he built a billion-dollar film resume from the ground up, turning bold ideas into box office hits while navigating an industry that rarely hands out opportunities. But this isn't just about success. Packer gets candid about the missteps, the pressure of managing money and expectations, and the moments where everything could have fallen apart. From producing cultural staples to learning hard lessons about risk, partnerships, and perseverance, his journey is a masterclass in betting on yourself—even when the odds say otherwise. From navigating Hollywood's gatekeepers to creating opportunities where none existed, his path is paved with resilience, ownership, and vision as we unpack the wins, losses, and the pivots in between—and what it really takes to turn ambition into a lasting legacy. He reflects on hits like Girls Trip, Ride Along, Think Like a Man, and Stomp the Yard to life—films that didn't just perform well, but became cultural movements. Along the way, he's collaborated with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Kevin Hart, Ice Cube, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish, and the late Paul Walker. On day one of filming Takers, Will had to step in and defuse a tense moment when Paul nearly walked off set—quickly navigating the pressure to keep the production on track. It became a test of leadership, showing how staying composed and solutions-focused can turn a potential setback into a moment of trust and respect. Filled with inside stories, lessons and advice on staying at the top, this episode is about building confidence as a muscle, taking big leaps, and overcoming rejection in order to get doors to finally open, Will is unguarded and uses humor to share some of his most impactful moments to allow us to see a side of him we haven't before, hoping his story inspires and ignites a fire in others. Negotiations to end joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran stalled after 21 hours of talks in Pakistan involving Vice President J.D. Vance. In response, President Trump is preparing a U.S.-led blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to strip Tehran of its leverage over global energy markets. Former Deputy National Security Advisor Victoria Coates joins the Rundown to discuss Iran's weakening economy, the strategic advantage of record U.S. energy production ahead of the President's summit with China's President Xi, and how shifting Middle East alliances are helping isolate the regime. Microplastics seem to be turning up everywhere, raising new concerns about their potential impact on our health. The federal government is launching STOMP, the Systematic Targeting of Microplastics. The initiative is a joint effort between the Department of Health and Human Services and the Environmental Protection Agency to better measure, study, and potentially remove these contaminants. Alicia Jackson, Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, joins the Rundown to discuss what scientists are discovering and what it could mean for the future of public health.
