When a Fortune 500 Company Became the HarasserCriminal Mischief – eBay's Campaign of Intimidation What happens when one of the world's largest technology companies decides it doesn't like what a journalist is writing? For one Massachusetts couple, the answer was months of harassment, surveillance, intimidation, and psychological warfare. This week on Criminal Mischief, Carolyn Ossorio investigates one of the strangest corporate crime stories in recent American history: the federal criminal case against eBay and the extraordinary campaign carried out against the publishers of the online newsletter EcommerceBytes. When Ina and David Steiner published articles critical of eBay's leadership and business practices, company executives didn't simply issue a statement or dispute the reporting. Instead, members of eBay's own Global Security team launched an astonishing harassment campaign designed to terrorize the couple into silence. Anonymous threats. Late-night deliveries. Disturbing packages. Constant surveillance. Online intimidation. And plans that investigators would later describe as escalating far beyond anything anyone expected from a publicly traded corporation. Using courtroom recordings, police interviews, FBI evidence, witness testimony, and the defendants' own admissions, Carolyn reconstructs the conspiracy from its inception through the federal investigation, guilty pleas, and sentencing of those involved. Along the way, she explores the corporate culture that allowed the campaign to flourish, the executives who authorized it, and the legal questions that continue to surround one of Silicon Valley's most shocking scandals. At its heart, this isn't simply a story about corporate misconduct. It's about the freedom of the press, the abuse of power, and what can happen when criticism becomes something an organization believes must be eliminated instead of answered. Because sometimes the most dangerous criminals don't wear masks. They wear employee badges.

The Great Rosary Campaign is an ongoing prayer and penance campaign for the conversion and strengthening of both Catholic and non-Catholic leaders. For this week's Great Rosary Campaign, as the war in the Middle East remains unresolved and the global energy and economic outlook perilous, pray the Rosary for the leaders of the main countries involved (the United States, Iran, and the State of Israel), and that the war would be brought to a peaceful conclusion. The SUGGESTED PENANCE this week is a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament, the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. In these dark times, we must fight evil with the most powerful weapons we have. The Rosary is foremost among them. Join the Great Rosary Campaign today at: www.GreatRosaryCampaign.com.Countless Saints and Popes have told us that the Rosary is incredibly powerful for three things in particular:Keeping the FaithMoral renovationConversions of non-CatholicsThe Great Rosary Campaign is also based on several biblical themes and principles.First, PRAY FOR OUR BRETHREN. “Pray for one another…” (Jas. 5:16). “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of faith" (Gal. 6:10).Second, PRAY FOR OUR ENEMIES. “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 5:43-44).Third, PRAY FOR ALL MEN, PARTICULARLY LEADERS AND THOSE IN AUTHORITY. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, or kings and all who are in high positions…” (1 Tim. 2:1-2).Fourth, GOING INTO BATTLE WITH THE ARK. When the ancient Israelites came to Jericho, God didn't tell them to besiege the city. Instead, He told them to march around it with the Ark of the Covenant seven times, and on the seventh the walls would fall. We will now "march" in prayer for seven days with the New Ark of the Covenant, Our Lady, through the Rosary. We pray in hope that on the seventh day, a day especially devoted to Our Lady (Saturday), extraordinary graces of conversion will be given to those we are praying for.Fifth, EVANGELISM AND APOLOGETICS = LOVE + ARGUMENTS + PRAYER + PENANCE. Ultimately it is God who reveals Himself to a soul, and empowers them to say "yes" to Him by His grace. He chooses to use us, but He does not have to. We must remember that as we evangelize and defend the Faith, our arguments will be fruitless unless informed by love (charity), and reinforced by prayer and penance.Sixth, RETURNING GOOD FOR EVIL. “Do not return evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but on the contrary bless, for to this you have been called, that you may obtain a blessing" (1 Pet. 3:9).Sign up to take part in the Great Rosary Campaign today: www.GreatRosaryCampaign.com

Recorded at the Battle of Ideas festival 2025 on Sunday 19 October at Church House, Westminster. ORIGINAL INTRODUCTION Marketing with purpose, rather than solely for profit, hit the mainstream 20 years ago with the launch by Unilever of the ‘Campaign for Real Beauty' for Dove. This was a well-meaning attempt to link selling soap with a broader social theme: female body positivity. With the rise of CSR (corporate social responsibility) and EDI in business, more brands dived into so-called ‘purpose-led' marketing in their communications, advertising and logo design. The rush was on, not just to flog stuff to consumers, but also to take a stance on social issues and portray the brand as an actor on the societal stage. It didn't always go to plan. People have an affection and loyalty for their favourite brands. So, for some marketing directors' moves to align the car, beer or food they sell with the social cause du jour, there is a backlash waiting to happen. A quiet but loyal user base who were happy with the brand's previous non-politicised approach may object to a new direction and make their feelings known – with social media pile-ons and boycotts, sometimes to devastating effect. The solution is for the brand to only make moves that are well-researched, authentic and heartfelt, where the external marketing supports the reality of the product and realistic consumer tolerance. It's the quick-win superficial attempts to get down with the kids (for example, Bud Light beer's financially disastrous ‘partnership' with a transgender influencer in 2023) that can turn to a quick loss. And even removing a familiar symbol can be as infuriating to the base as creating a diverse new campaign. The Cracker Barrel restaurant chain in the US found this recently when they announced the removal of the (apparently) much-loved ‘Uncle Herschel' character from their logo and tried to go all plain and bland. And when Donald Trump weighed in, sensing an attack on the traditional values of his MAGA base, the company was caught in the headlights. This session will ask if we are past ‘peak purpose'. Should brands with big marketing, advertising and design budgets persist in using their leverage to become political or social evangelists and risk the backlash from those who disagree… or just dodge the issue and stick to selling stuff? What is the purpose of ‘marketing with purpose'? SPEAKERS Suzanne Evans director, Political Insight Martin Loat communications expert, business mentor, social campaigner Kevin McCullagh founder, Plan; innovation strategist and writer CHAIR Dr Michael Owens urban planning researcher and lecturer; author, Play the Game

In February 1942, five German U-boats under Kapitänleutnant Werner Hartenstein struck the refineries of Aruba, Curaçao, and Venezuela within a single hour, opening the World War Two Battle of the Caribbean — Germany's bid to sever the Allied oil and bauxite lifeline running through the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. Over the next year, U-boats sank nearly 400 ships, accounting for more than a third of everything the Allies lost worldwide in 1942, and dragged Mexico into the war outright. This episode follows the campaign from Hartenstein's opening strike to the last hunted U-boat sunk off Haiti in 1943 — and the men, on both sides, that history forgot to name.

The party makes their way to the pillars on the nearby mountain. They discover the pillars surround a large stone slab and each is decorated with various runes. As they search the area, Rou locates a keyhole within the joints of the slab. Using the key they found in the observatory, the slab opens to reveal an underground room. Within the room are various crates, decorative jars and numerous valuables strewn about. On one wall is another stone slab that is partially carved with intricate details. As they investigate the slab they realize the room was intended to be the final resting place of Arcazar Grimmandius. The tomb itself has been left in a half-finished state with incomplete traps, valuables unpacked, and the vault's death mask unfinished. Investigating the contents of the crates, the group finds a rusted chest that holds Arcazar's logs and final request. Episode #613: Halo: Campaign Evolved is finally here, and we jumped into legendary four-player co-op to see if the magic still holds up.The good news? The main campaign is a blast. Sprint feels great, the weapons hit harder, friendly fire makes everything funnier, and the whole thing captures that classic Halo chaos with the boys. It feels like going back to the college dorms — grenades everywhere, Marines flying through the sky, and nobody playing responsibly. The not-so-good news? The new prequel missions are rough. They have a few cool moments, but overall they feel flat enough to make us wonder what they say about the future of Halo. We also get into the weird internet outrage around the game, the Cortana model debate, awkward cutscenes, Unreal Engine 5 rough edges, and what Halo Studios should do next.Who are the XoneBros? We are your exclusive Xbox Series X & Game Pass weekly podcast. Visuals: https://getbehindthebillboard.com/episode-114-axel-chaldecott Episode #114 features Axel Chaldecott, art director, creative director, agency founder, Global CCO and now award-winning printmaker. Axel spent nearly four decades in the industry, creating and overseeing some of the most iconic campaigns this country has ever seen. Ronseal: ‘Does exactly what it says on the tin' AA: ‘The fourth emergency service' Pot Noodle: ‘The slag of all snacks' ‘You Know When You've Been Tango'd' These were just some of the campaigns from Howell Henry Chaldecott Lury (HHCL), the agency Axel co-founded in 1987, which went on to become ‘Agency of the Decade' as voted by Campaign magazine in 2000. We started the chat at Gold Greenlees Trott (GGT) where Axel, along with long-term partner Steve Henry, worked on the London Weekend Television (LWT) account and we discovered why the campaign was so ground-breaking: Gordon Smith's idea of retaining the outer sheets of a poster in full colour, while changing the internal b&w sheets, gave the illusion of printing a new 48-sheet colour poster every week. That in itself was genius. But then the actual posters that sat within the frame were also brilliant, each one telling a story of the TV show it was advertising, like writing a topical ad every week. Next up three cracking posters for Time Out, before First Direct and a unique approach to posters for a bank … everyday objects with the line: ‘Banking without branches, it's extraordinary'. We ended on the HSBC Points of View campaign, which ran all over the world, winning awards and much pr. An academic once cited the campaign ‘as a post-structuralist concept of 'mise en abyme', that cognitive moment when we realise when presented with two binaries, that neither is defensible and the actual meaning lives in the gap between.' Again, Axel explains it best, with his infectious laugh, possibly the greatest giggle in advertising. Thanks so much Axel for coming on. A real treat. Did you see even Don Brash reckons Luxon should fire Winston as Foreign Minister? Before anyone gets their hopes up, this never going to happen. If the PM cut Winston loose, the government would fall apart. That would kill not only Luxon's current term but his ambitions for a second. MMP is a game of swallowing dead rats. Campaign-mode Winston is the political equivalent of one of those giant New York sewer rats. With the plague. Gross. Unsightly. A pain the arse. But impossible to get rid of. The PM has so far handled the situation well, using the playbook of Jacinda Ardern and Helen Clark to deal with his brain farts. Those calling for his sacking are hypocrites to their party. Carmel Sepuloni sat round the cabinet table with Winston POST two Wongs don't make a White. The faux shock and outrage only make their own leader look weak. If 'Go Home Gate' is so outrageous and egregious, why hasn't Chris Hipkins ruled Winston out? He did so about this stage of the election cycle in 2023. Why not last night? Why not this morning? I text Hipkins today to ask exactly this question. Why not rule him out ever being foreign minister, at least? Guess what? Crickets. Radio silence. Why? Same reason as Luxon. They need him. Or might need him. Luxon, because he's no John Key and doesn't have the arty vote to govern without New Zealand First. And Hipkins, because if he did get enough support to cross the finish line, he'd rather do it alongside Winston Peters than Te Pati Maori. The fact is, Winston can say what he likes and he knows it. His comments aren't popular with most fair-minded kiwis, but then, really, neither are the Chrises'.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The U.S. prematurely ceased military operations against them last year due to budgetary issues and Omani pressure, failing to stop Red Sea attacks. Recently, tensions escalated as Saudi Arabia challenged Houthi attempts to establish direct flights to Iran.

Merneptah started his reign aggressively, striking a belligerent tone in his royal names and launching an expedition to Canaan in the first few years. In the process, his troops captured Ashkelon, Gezer, and Yenoam, and dealt with a tribe called "Israel." Simultaneously, Merneptah achieved a great diplomatic coup when we brought Ugarit back into the Egyptian sphere. Music by Keith Zizza & Luke Chaos. On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, Senator Tim Sheehy delivered a compelling Senate floor speech explaining the long-running war with Iran's radical Islamist regime in Tehran. Sheehy stressed that the regime, which seized power 47 years ago through brutality and has never stopped, cares nothing about American politics or faith; it seeks to kill Americans and other atrocities it celebrates and rewards. The United States did not start the conflict but must finish it so another generation is not forced to fight the same murderous adversary. President Trump is acting preemptively to stop this enemy from obtaining or using nuclear weapons that could kill hundreds of thousands in multiple mushroom-cloud explosions, leaving no room for later regrets or mistakes. The regime has already killed and maimed enough Americans. Also, Erdogan of Turkey remains aligned with Iran, provides safe harbor to Hamas leaders, and has funded and supported Hamas and Hezbollah, which is why Turkey should receive no F-35s. Civilian nuclear energy for Saudi Arabia should likewise be opposed given its vast oil reserves; the UAE's possession of such technology does not justify extending it to others, especially since the UAE was not involved in 9/11. Later, rogue prosecutor Jack Smith faces accusations of lying under oath during a December 2025 deposition before the House Judiciary Committee. Smith's lawyers rejected the DOJ referral as meritless, asserting he testified fully aware of risks from the Trump Justice Department and that the questioning did not specifically cover text messages, while arguing the real motive is Trump's desire to prosecute him. This is ironic given Smith's own alleged constitutional overreach and prosecutorial tactics against Trump and others. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
