Self-Acceptance (Am I suppose to hate myself?)

In this episode we talk self-acceptance centered around a recent photo shoot I did. For me, I came to the realization that I did not accept myself (mind, body, spirit), and that was revealed to me through lack of acceptance for my physical body. Society deems what is considered a "nice" body, but what if my body doesn't measure up to societal standards? Am I suppose to hate myself? Shame myself into changing? Our bodies are our bodies, we cannot receive another one. I encourage you to embrace every part of your being (mind, body, and spirit), and operate from a place of self-acceptance. We will find it hard living our life if we never learn to embrace the image we see in the mirror. You are worthy. You are enough. Feb 23, 2020, 25 year old Ahmaud Arbery was murdered by Gregory and Travis McMichael. For 74 days, the father and son walked around their community as free men. Yesterday evening, the two were charged with murder and aggravated assault. On this episode of Wisdom In The Room I sit down with DeAngelo Robinson (https://www.deangelospeaks.com), and discuss: -Why this modern day lynching is triggering for myself and many other African Americans in this country. -The purpose of a grand jury and we take a closer look at the American Justice System - The deeply rooted racism that plagues this country Ahmaud Arbery would have been 26 years old today. Here are three ways to honor his life: 1.) Run or walk 2.23 miles (honoring his memory and showing support for his family) 2.) On Wednesday March 4, 2020 I wrote a post on my blog (www.wisdomintheroom.com) entitled, "The Breakup Song," in it I discussed how football was the hardest breakup of my life. That post inspired today's episode in which, I open up with DeAngelo Robinson (Future MFT) about my journey to the NFL. I believe talking about your loss in a healthy way helps the grieving process and it allows you to reframe the experience. We become wiser each time we share our stories. Life after football. Last year, I wrote down motivational statements on 31 index cards, for each day of the month. On the 26th day of each month, I read a card that says: "Take time to reflect and celebrate." "Reflect on where you are, how far you have come, and where you are going." "Celebrate your success and accomplishments, and celebrate the success and accomplishments of others." That is what we are doing today on this episode of Wisdom In The Room, as I sit down with Wingate great, Chris Bowden. During his career at Wingate, he racked up over 200+ receptions, 3,719 receiving yards, and 35 touchdowns. Throughout his time as a bulldog he earned prestigious awards such as, South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-American, and was a Harlon Hill Nominee (Top 8 Finalist). It was a great pleasure to watch Chris play football. On every journey there are ups and downs that mold us into who we are becoming. Step into the room as Chris and I discuss his football career, unmet expectations in pursuing his dream to play in the NFL, purpose, and finding inner peace and joy after football.
