Racing by feel and winning with heart.Margot Appleton has emerged as one of the premier collegiate distance runners in the U.S., blending tactical brilliance, relentless drive, and a flair for dramatic finishes.In 2019, as a high school junior, Appleton stunned the field at Boston's Mayor's Cup 5K, finishing second overall in 17:14—outpacing the reigning Foot Locker national champion. This performance marked a significant breakthrough in her running career. Most recently, at the 2025 Penn Relays, Appleton delivered a sensational anchor leg in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), clocking a 4:21.46 split. Overcoming a significant deficit, she surged past top competitors to secure Virginia's first women's DMR win at the event since 1982. Her 1500m time of 4:05.68 at the 2025 Raleigh Relays ranks as the fourth-fastest in collegiate history.Appleton holds Virginia school records in the indoor mile (4:25.03), indoor 3000m (8:46.23), and outdoor 5000m (15:18.21). Appleton has earned First Team All-American honors in both the 1500m and 5000m events, including a 4th-place finish in the 5000m at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships. In today's conversation, Margot takes me through her successful, consistent career at UVU, being a leader on the team, what it would mean to her to win an NCAA title, what her training looks like, training without a GPS watch, and so much more.Tap into the Margot Appleton Special.  If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! I would also appreciate it if you share it with your friend who you think will benefit from it. Comment the word "PODCAST" below and I'll DM you a link to listen. If this episode blesses you, please share it with a friend!S H O W  N O T E S-The Run Down By The Running Effect (our new newsletter!): https://tinyurl.com/mr36s9rs-BUY MERCH BEFORE IT'S GONE: https://shop.therunningeffect.run-Our Website: https://therunningeffect.run -THE PODCAST ON YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClLcLIDAqmJBTHeyWJx_wFQ-My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therunningeffect/?hl=en-Take our podcast survey: https://tinyurl.com/3ua62ffz

2025 NFL Draft Tight End Class Breakdown – Scouting Report & Highlights

Send us a textDrew and Rob take a deep dive into the top tight end prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, breaking down their strengths, weaknesses, and draft projections. This class features a mix of high-end talent, athletic pass catchers, and physical blockers, but who stands out as the best of the best?  At the top of the board is Penn State's Tyler Warren, a dominant force who put up monster numbers in his final college season. At 6'6” and 261 pounds, Warren earned the John Mackey Award, First-Team All-American honors, and was named Big Ten Tight End of the Year. His ability to contribute in multiple ways makes him the clear number-one tight end in the draft, but he still has room for growth in his route running and pass protection.  Right behind him is Michigan's Colston Loveland, a smooth route runner with wide receiver-like movement skills. He's not the most physical player and struggles with contested catches, but his upside as a dynamic receiving threat has him locked in as a late first-round prospect. Bowling Green's Harold Fannin Jr. put up jaw-dropping numbers with over 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns, making him an unstoppable force in the MAC. However, questions about his athleticism and competition level make him more of a Day 2 target.  The depth in this tight end class continues with LSU's Terrance Ferguson and Mason Taylor, both talented pass catchers with strong red zone skills but some concerns in blocking and handling physical defenders. Miami's Elijah Arroyo is one of the fastest tight ends in the draft with big-play potential, but his medical history, including an ACL injury, raises red flags. Gunnar Helm from Texas brings toughness and reliable hands, but he lacks elite speed and still needs work on his blocking.  Further down the rankings, Notre Dame's Mitchell Evans, Clemson's Jake Briningstool, and Iowa's Luke Lachey all bring different skill sets to the table. Evans is a strong contested-catch receiver but lacks high-end athleticism, Briningstool has deep-threat ability but needs to bulk up, and Lachey follows in the footsteps of past Iowa tight ends, offering solid fundamentals but lacking standout traits.  Drew and Rob analyze what makes these tight ends valuable at the next level and where they might land in the 2025 NFL Draft. With teams always searching for the next elite playmaker at the position, this year's draft class has plenty of intriguing options. Whether it's a first-round talent like Warren or a mid-round gem, this episode provides a full breakdown of what each prospect brings to the table.Support the showAll Episodes are shot LIVE with fan interactions on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, & TwitchSponsor the show at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsInterested in starting a podcast. He grew up in St Louis and played a number of sports, except football. Jay Leeuwenburg's dad wanted to make sure he was coached properly, so he had to wait until high school to hit the gridiron. In the meantime, Jay dealt with a setback: being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in middle school.   The diabetes diagnosis meant one thing: how to manage it and play sports. Jay figured it out with the proper nutrition and became stronger… real strong. He excelled on the offensive line at his high school and got noticed by Gary Barnett, who was recruiting for the University of Colorado under Bill McCartney.   Jay took a scholarship at CU and found himself once again making a name for himself on the offensive line as a center. He helped the Buffs win a National Championship in 1990 and was a unanimous First Team All American the following season. There was talk about being a high draft pick, but that ended when he was chosen by the Chiefs in the 9th round of the 1992 draft.   The Chiefs didn't keep him after training camp his rookie season, but the Bears claimed him off wires and he thrived in Chicago, starting every game from 1993-1995. He was a free agent in 1996 and signed with the Colts and eventually became Peyton Manning's center. After stops in Cincinnati, Washington and Denver (very briefly), Jay retired and settled in Colorado with his family.  He dabbled in radio and TV and also got his teaching license. He's been teaching 3rd grade at Colorado Academy now for 23 years.

Luka Garza at the University of Iowa was a First Team All-American, the John R. Wooden National Player of the Year in 2021, and was arguably one of the best college basketball players of all time. The 6'10 center is now in the NBA playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but realized there was still an opportunity to maximize his efforts in college through blockchain technology. While Luka just missed the NIL era, he knew it was coming and started Luka Garza NFT Group, which had the goal in mind for athletes to monetize their NIL with any institutional involvement. https://lnkd.in/g-3BBXtb While he's put the project aside (for now), the reemergence of stable coins with the ETHDenver in full swing prompts the discussion... what's it going to take for Web3 to achieve mainstream adoption, including the sports world? In another Chasing Pars player exclusive interview sponsored by Golf Tips Checker I was absolutely delighted to be joined by 1x LPGA Tour winner, 5x Ladies European Tour winner & 2023 Solheim Cup star Maja Stark who becomes my 25th Professional Player interview.   In this brilliant episode with Maja we find out about her background growing up in the village of Abbekås in Sweden growing up with an older brother they would play competitively in most things against each other. We find out that Maja was in the same year & went to the same school as none other than Ludvig Åberg & Linn Grant while Madelene Sagstrom was also at the same school in Helsingborg. Craig asks some quick fire questions to find out more about Maja with a nice little discussion on ABBA (Why Not?). It was at the age of 15 where Maja would start to get noticed by Top Swedish Coaches & managed to get into university at Oklahoma State University where she was a First Team All American & won 2021 Big 12 Championship with Oklahoma State. Other Amateur accolades include being on the 2017 Junior Solheim Cup Team for Europe, Winning the European Girls Amateur Team Champs with Sweden, winning European Amateur Team Champs 3 times with Sweden & being a part of the successful International side at 2020 Palmer Cup at Bay Hill.    Maja turned Professional in 2021 & since then she's been relentless when it comes to getting wins with 6 wins in a 2 year spell on LET Tour & which includes the win in 2022 at the Co-sanctioned ISPS Handa World Invitational at Galgorm Castle which would help secure full LPGA Tour status. 2023 was a decent year for Maja with T2nd at Tournament of Champions in the opening event & T4th at both Honda LPGA Thailand & Women's Scottish Open events. Maja would win Lalla Meryem Cup on the LET beating Linn Grant by 4 shots & would also get to play in her first Solheim Cup for Team Europe at Finca Cortesin contributing to 2 & a half points for Europe on Debut. An experience that Maja says she will never forget. As Tournament of Champs starts up next week I ask Maja about her goals going forward for 2024 with making back to back Solheim Cup teams the top of her list along with the Majors. We mention about Maja & Linn's friendship but eagerness to beat each other every time on the Golf course & we also talk late about what to expect from WAGR number 1 Ingrid Lindblad and what the future holds for Ingrid when she does finally turn pro. It was amazing to speak to one of the best players in the world again & to try and process what goals they try to achieve & what obstacles they have to overcome to achieve them. Maja was a lovely person with an even better Golf game & is a future Major Champion in waiting!    Please Like, Download & Subscribe on Podbean & Spotify I want this episode to reach as many people as possible!

Khari Demos joins Matt Waldman's RSP site this season to profile college football's trenches while keeping an eye on standout offensive skill players. This week, Demos dives into the games of Notre Dame left tackle Joe Alt and USC guard Alani Noa and puts us on notice with QB Sam Hartman and RB Austin Jones. Fall is almost upon us. The night is arriving faster and stores are already stocked for Halloween. Another batch of goodies is also here for us to feast upon: college football season.  One of the coolest treats of the college football landscape is Week 0. Week 0 can often be a certified payday weekend, meaning Power 5 schools host programs from the Group of 5 in what often are mismatches on the field in exchange for a fine payout. While there was some of that to kick off the 2023 season, we also got to see a few of the best teams (and players) in college football right off the bat. Since I will note a lot of the offensive line work throughout the season, let's start with arguably the best one in the country: Notre Dame Left Tackle Joe Alt. Towing the Line: LT Joe Alt, Notre Dame The son of Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Famer John Alt, the North Oaks, MN native has a rare blend of size (6-foot-8, 315 pounds) and athleticism. This makes that much more sense considering the fact that he played tight end in high school and began his career with the Fighting Irish as one. The 2022 First-Team All-American selection is expected to be a top-10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. So, a player of his stature should be able to handle his own against a Navy defensive front that had speed to offer, but far less size to combat with Alt and ND's fellow starters up front. And the big fella did not disappoint with his efforts. But I will say, there are pieces of his game that he will need to address with matchups against the likes of Ohio State, USC, and Clemson still on the slate. What I think he did a much better job of in Week 0 in comparison to what he did at times throughout his first two years in South Bend was finishing blocks. You can see here on tape here at the 13:41, 12:23, 10:23, and 9:05 marks throughout the first quarter against Navy (and shoutout to @DoABarrowRoll on YouTube for some help there) as times when he really anchored in and handled business in the run game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RQilRHoDfg&t=38s https://youtu.be/3RQilRHoDfg?t=67 https://youtu.be/3RQilRHoDfg?t=107 https://youtu.be/3RQilRHoDfg?t=121 This is the peak of what he can be as a road grader with his elite size. The problem, though, is that his rawness and need to continue adding strength to his frame can be very evident at moments in the run game. An example of this would be the two-play stretch here. One thing I will say about Alt is that he almost always covers people up and knows how to cut them off. The issue is that he is more times than not just position blocking when he does that, which can work against the likes of the Navy Midshipmen. https://youtu.be/3RQilRHoDfg?t=38 But ultimately, Pitt, or Louisville, or whoever else ND will see down the line, should offer a stiffer form of competition that may need more than that (not to mention once he makes his way to the NFL). What I will say about Alt is he is a master in pass protection (and the numbers back this up for him). Just look at the footwork and ability to adjust properly to the Midshipmen's stunt upfront in this play. https://youtu.be/3RQilRHoDfg?t=271 The guy is truly a dancing bear, and he projects to be a long-time starting tackle in the NFL who would thrive in an offensive system that prioritizes movement in the run game (i.e. outside zone scheme) as well as a commitment to basing the offense around the passing attack. Alt should be starting for an NFL organization for a decade or more once he makes his NFL debut most likely in 2024. Again, great all-around showing from Alt in Week 0. But it will be interesting to see what he is able ...

From Jacksonville Athletics: "Entering his six season leading the Dolphins in 2022, John Galloway was named head coach of the Jacksonville University men's lacrosse team in June 2016. The 2018 and 2022 Southern Conference Coach of the Year has transcended the team's culture and brought national attention to the program, with substaintial growth year-by-year, both on and off of the field. One of the young legends in the sport, Galloway joined the Dolphins following a four-year stint as an assistant coach at Providence College. While at Providence, Galloway helped coach Peter Badgley to Big East Goalkeeper of the Year and All-Big East First Team honors. It was the first time in program history that a Friar had earned the accolade. He also mentored Jarrod Neumann to an All-Big East First Team selection. A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Galloway played goalkeeper for Syracuse University and ended his college career with an NCAA-record 59 wins while playing a record 3,776 minutes. A two-time First Team All-American at the position and the only goalie in Orange history to earn the honor twice, Galloway is also the only goalie in NCAA history to win national championships in his freshman and sophomore years. A Tewaaraton Award Finalist, he also earned the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award for the nation's best goalkeeper in 2010 and 2011. In addition to his on-field presence, Galloway was a two-time national Academic All-American and was twice named Big East All-Academic. In his first season as a professional with the Rochester Rattlers (Major League Lacrosse), he was named Rookie of the Year, and twice earned Goaltender of the Year honors (2014, 2016). A two-time MLL All-Star in 2015 and 2016, Galloway helped lead the Rattlers to the three MLL Championship games in 2014, 2015, and 2018. From 2019-21, he played in goal for the Chrome of the PLL, announcing his retirement at the conclusion of the 2021 season. In addition to playing professionally, he captained the U.S. Men's National Team that won gold at the FIL World Championships in Netanya, Israel in 2018 and was an alternate member of Team USA in 2014." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lax-all-stars/message

Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep A two-time First Team All-American at the University of Florida, Mike Pouncey appeared to be a can't-miss prospect in the 2011 NFL Draft, and proved to be exactly that after the Miami Dolphins selected him with the 15th overall pick. Pouncey would go on to start all 16 games during his rookie campaign, and earned three Pro Bowl nods over the course of his seven seasons with the Dolphins, twice at center and once at guard. Pouncey played out the final three seasons of his professional career with the San Diego Chargers, where he made another trip to the Pro Bowl in 2018. Making his second appearance in The Fish Tank, but his first without twin brother, Maurkice, Mike reveals how the Pouncey brothers went on a journey to transform their bodies in retirement and were able to lose nearly 60 pounds each (2:16) while also discussing the factors that led the twins to retire together (9:10). Mike gets sentimental when remembering former Fins Head Coach Tony Sparano (19:44), explains why group success as an offensive lineman far outweighs individual accolades (22:36), but does share how meaningful it was to make the Pro Bowl as a guard in 2014 (25:17), and to fulfil a lifelong dream of playing next to his brother at the highest level (29:25). Finally, the older Pouncey brother discusses their pursuit of success with several business ventures (30:08), his obsession with tattoos (33:06), and closes out the interview with the Two-Minute Drill (36:10).  Contributors to this episode include Sean “DJ Prec” Todd and Dolphins Productions.
