A podcast for language-nerds, theatre-nerds, and plain old nerd-nerds. Dialect Coach Carrie Hardin helps actors with all kinds of things —whether it’s cramming to learn an accent before that audition, or just figuring out whatever the hell Shakespeare was talking about during this weird part of the play with a bear in it. The questions are always different, but there’s one answer that’s always the same —your voice is amazing.

Whether it's a coming-of-age story or a monster movie, there are lots of reasons to want to create a sense of “otherness” in your character. Accents are one way to do this, and while making an Impossible Accent from Nowhere can be fun, using a real life language as a shorthand for “other” can perpetuate harmful stereotypes. So —how do we responsibly tell these stories about being “other?” Have a question?
