Explore the perplexing death of successful 33-year-old tech CEO Erin Valenti. In October 2019, after a business retreat, Valenti began speaking erratically about "the Matrix," missed her flight, and was found deceased days later in her rental car near the San Jose Airport. With no signs of foul play or substance abuse, the medical examiner ruled the cause of death as "sudden death in the setting of an acute manic episode." --For early, ad free episodes and monthly exclusive bonus content, join our Patreon! In this conversation, philosopher and counselor Tyrone Powell discusses his journey from a corporate career to becoming a counselor. He focuses on the importance of self-discovery and the impact of economic stress on mental health. He critiques the reliance on labels in mental health and advocates for a more holistic approach that considers the individual's environment and societal factors. They also discuss how labels and diagnoses in mental health can be both helpful and harmful depending on their use cases, and how coping mechanisms can become harmful when overused. The discussion also touches on the significance of community support over traditional systems, the role of coping mechanisms, and the need for a shift in how mental health is perceived and treated in society. Tyrone and Nick deeply discuss how economic stress significantly impacts mental health and the importance of class consciousness in counseling. They also discuss how the current economic conditions are causing the middle class to disappear into poverty, and how our government and societal systems will continue to fail to lift those out of poverty. The Scrum Master Role Is Disappearing - Or Is It? The layoffs of 2023 told a story that few in the tech industry wanted to acknowledge. In this episode of the Anglotopia podcast, host Jonathan Thomas speaks with art historian and broadcaster James Fox about his new book 'Craftland: In Search of Lost Arts and Disappearing Trades.' They explore the significance of traditional crafts in British culture, the impact of geography on craftsmanship, and the challenges faced by artisans in a modern, digital age. The conversation highlights the importance of preserving these skills and the cultural heritage they represent, as well as the potential for a craft revival in contemporary society. Links Craftland (Amazon Link) Craftland (Bookshop.org link) James Fox Website Heritage Crafts Association Friends of Anglotopia Club Takeaways Craftsmanship is a profound part of our identity. We are a species of makers, connected to our craft heritage. The art of making still matters in our digital age. Geography significantly influences the types of crafts practiced. Craftspeople are often the last custodians of their trades. The decline of traditional crafts reflects a broader economic shift. Craftsmanship can teach us about patience and value in a fast-paced world. There is a growing interest in crafts post-COVID-19. Apprenticeships are crucial for sustaining traditional crafts. Crafts can reveal much about local and national identity. Sound Bites 1. On the crisis facing British crafts: "Of all of our traditional crafts, about half of them are endangered, about quarter of them are critically endangered. And in the last 10 years or so, five crafts have gone extinct in Britain." 2. On the cricket ball revelation: "I read in the newspaper that the art of cricket ball making had gone extinct. And I thought this was completely outrageous for a country that invented the game of cricket, which I'm sure you know, Jonathan, is the greatest sport in the world, that we weren't even making cricket balls anymore." 3. On breaking down art vs. craft distinctions: "These distinctions are completely false. You know, there is for me one great spectrum of making that exists for human beings... craftspeople... are just as culturally important as our famous artists and actors and composers that have generally got much more credit." 4. On the 10,000 hours principle: "All the people I know who are successful are successful because they work hard and they do not give up and they've dedicated to themselves to doing something and to doing it right." 5. On learning a craft the hard way: "I thought it would be very easy actually dry stone walling... as soon as I started doing it I realized it is far more difficult than you think... I embarrass myself greatly." 6. On what other countries do better: "If you are a top crafts person in Japan or South Korea or even in France, you can be called a living national treasure where the state actually pays you to promote your craft and to pass it on. We do not have such a scheme in the UK." 7. On the apprenticeship crisis: "The biggest problem is apprenticeships. There's woefully little support for apprenticeships in the UK... if the UK really wants to make a difference to craft and to make it more viable, it needs to invest more significantly in its apprenticeship schemes." 8. On hidden heritage in unexpected places: "Wherever you come from, whether it's Bedfordshire in England or it's Indiana in the United States, there is a craft history, a manufacturing history to uncover... you will find creativity, you will find something interesting happen." 9. On craft as universal: "I think it's something that is just common to humanity, but unfortunately not as common as it used to be." 10. On the motivation behind the book: "This is the moment to travel around the country and to document these crafts before they disappear... It was just the most enjoyable and wonderful thing to do. It was the highlight of my professional career."Retry Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Craftland and Its Importance 02:50 The Journey of Discovery: Craft Revival in Britain 05:35 The Art of Craft vs. Art: A Cultural Perspective 08:37 Surprising Crafts: The Intricacies of Bell-Founding 11:47 Bells: A Cultural Heritage and Their Significance 14:36 Craftland: A Reflection of Britain's National Identity 17:24 Regional Crafts: The Lost Industries of Britain 20:23 The Decline of Manufacturing: A Global Perspective 23:19 Cultural Identity: The Legacy of Craft Surnames 26:22 The Future of Craft: A Personal Connection 26:31 Custodians of Craftsmanship 29:03 Craftsmanship in the Age of AI 35:12 Geography's Influence on Craft 38:59 The Role of Royalty in Craft Preservation 45:36 Lessons from Craft Masters 51:16 The Future of Traditional Crafts 56:22 anglotopia-podcast-outro.mp4 Video Version

Its another week, which means its time for more bad Xbox news! First, Target and Walmart were apparently pulling their Xbox stock from retail stores, to which Microsoft has denied. But secondly, Xbox is looking to hire "gaming finance experts" to transform the finances of Xbox video games business urgently, which smells like more layoffs in the not too distant future. Lastly, we go over the latest Circana numbers for video game sales, with NBA and Madden dominating the charts like usual this time of year. #xbox #microsoft #gamepass #videogames #circana #ps5 #switch2 #allyoucangeek

In this Cup we get serious and deep - quickly. We are (again) seeing some of our rights being taken away from us right in front of our eyes!! From censorship to redistricting voting areas to ICE raids to talking about different countries and more! We are being told what to say and what not to say - in the United States of America, so where does that leave us? Let's talk about it in this Cup of T - because this one is hot!
Family farms in America are slowly disappearing, with a 2022 USDA census reporting that America lost 142,000 farms over just five years. The average farmer in America is now nearly 60 years old.But it's not government subsidies that farmers need to stay afloat, says Joel Salatin. What small farmers really need is the freedom to innovate and sell directly to local consumers—without facing a morass of red tape, regulations, and mandates.Salatin, co-owner of Polyface Farms in Virginia, is widely recognized as a leading pioneer of sustainable or regenerative farming practices that enrich the land, rather than depleting it.Over the last half century, Salatin has seen his fair share of what he calls the “food police.” He discovered it was illegal to sell a couple dozen homemade pot pies at the farmers' market without proving he had a certified $50,000 septic system; illegal to process his own meat without sending it to a licensed butcher; illegal for his 17-year-old apprentices to operate a cordless drill—even though they were legally allowed to drive a car; and illegal to build housing without a permit on his farm—an agricultural zone—for his highly popular farmer apprenticeship program. The result? Small farmers have to fight for survival, factory farming wins, and America is less healthy, he says.“In my lifetime I have watched this erosion of farmer access to retail dollars. Meanwhile, we're seeing farmers go out of business hand over fist,” Salatin says. What America really needs is a “Food Emancipation Proclamation,” he says.Salatin is the author of 17 books, including “Everything I Want to Do Is Illegal: War Stories from the Local Food Front.”Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

Thinking about adding attic insulation, swapping your old air conditioning system for a heat pump, or putting solar panels on your roof?Federal tax credits can cut the cost, but the clock is ticking. President Donald Trump's tax and spending bill passed this summer is doing away with several energy incentives that encouraged homeowners to reduce their energy use and switch to cleaner energy sources. MPR News guest host Catharine Richert talks with her guests about the tax credits and home energy efficiency. You can also find more information on home energy audits, how to get started on home energy efficiency projects and rebate, tax credit and financing programs at the Center for Energy and Environment.
The Rapture. It's a pretty weird event. In the blink of an eye, millions – perhaps billions - of people just disappear. In the Christian religion, the Rapture is an event that is believed will take place during the end times and before the Second Coming of Yeshua when He returns to the Earth in judgement. But is the Rapture taught in the Bible? Along with the Rapture, many Christian denominations teach that there will be a 7-year Tribulation before Christ makes his Second Coming to Earth. And again we ask, does the Bible teach such things? The Rapture? The Tribulation? It can all be very confusing. Main theme: Crazy For Thrills by Muse Music with Groove Studios

Mike and Jared discuss how the Trump Administration and its allies have escalated their efforts to censor and criminalize their opponents in wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination. They also talk about the ways leaders in business and media – even “anti-hate” nonprofits – have been spooked into self-censorship.Then, Jared shares an interview he did with Kelly Jensen. She's a former librarian and writer celebrated for her coverage of movements to ban books from libraries. Their conversation expands beyond books to cover the Right's attacks on public institutions overall and what normal people can do about it. As you'd expect from a former librarian, Kelly put together an incredibly thorough reading list for listeners to check out.“Charlie Kirk opposed free speech but the media won't tell you that” – Madeline Peltzhttps://www.patreon.com/PostingThroughItLinks for Kelly:Book Riot newsletter: “Weekly Literary Activism”Kelly's newsletter, “Well Sourced”Blueksy: @heykellyjensen.bsky.socialStories Kelly referenced:Timeline of IMLS Cuts, Impact to Libraries, and MoreThe Lie of "Local Control," as Texas and Florida Signal What's Next in Book CensorshipJudge Strikes Down Much of Florida Book Ban BillWhat's in the 596 Books Banned by the Department of Defense in their Education Activity Schools?Politics Can Now Dictate Public Library Collections in Three States, Thanks to Fifth Circuit RulingSouth Carolina Bans 10 More Books StatewideUtah Bans 18th Book Statewide from Public SchoolsThe Anti-Book Ban Bills Passed in 2025 and What They MeanPride is Disappearing in LibrariesWhy Would a County Evict Its Public Library Over $1?Wyoming Proposes Extreme Anti-Library BillPublic Libraries On the Chopping Block, 2025 EditionAs local governments struggle with budgets, they discover libraries, museums as new revenue sourcesMenomonee Falls diverts $300k from library to police budgetTransition Music: “Portions for Foxes” by Rilo Kiley
This past week unspecified interpretive materials related to slavery were either removed or tagged for removal from Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia. It also was reported that a troubling photo known as the “Scourged Back” that depicted the scar-riddled back of an enslaved man was taken down from Fort Pulaski National Monument in Georgia. The National Park System has been pulled into the current-day battles of wokeism of sorts through the removal of those, and likely other, interpretive materials in the parks that help us better understand enslaved history. Where it will end, or whether it will be reversed, is unknown. To better understand what's transpiring and what the impacts are, we've invited Alan Spears, the senior director for cultural resources at the National Parks Conservation Association, to join us today.
Kevin Freeman traces the arc from 1980s optimism — thousands of investable public companies and rapid innovation — to today's halved stock count amid soaring GDP and population. He argues that financialization, heavy regulation (SOX, Dodd-Frank), and abundant private capital pushed companies to stay private, widening the wealth gap and fueling socialist sentiment. Examples like Uber illustrate how gains accrue privately while retail investors face late access and higher risk; meanwhile, dollar debasement and the Cantillon effect amplify inequality. Freeman advocates restoring opportunity via sound money (state gold/silver initiatives), lighter but fair regulation, stronger IP protection, and expanded public access to high-growth firms, urging policy action to revive broad-based capitalism.
Rosina Philippe lives in Grand Bayou Indian Village, a community that is entirely based in water. The homes, along with the church, can only be reached by boat. This was not always the case. “We had solid ground beneath our feet,” she recalls. “We had garden spaces. We had fruit trees. We had lots of land where you can walk for miles.”The Atakapa-Ishak/Chawasha are a subsistence tribe, and have long relied on the bounty of the land and water: harvesting seafood, foraging for persimmons and wild celery, growing vegetables, hunting deer, ducks, and rabbits. Always, they've been guided by an ethos of taking only what they needed. “There was no such thing as overharvesting or just taking and hoarding away,” Rosina says, “because the life around us makes us possible. And as long as they were here, then we were here.”They are still a subsistence tribe. But with much of the land gone, some of their traditional foodways have become difficult or even impossible to maintain. Disappearing wetlands also means less protection from storms. Most tribal members have moved away, returning to Grand Bayou with their families for holidays. But Rosina remains, along with about a dozen other households. “I say that we're placemarkers,” she says. “A table is here and it's set and we're like a place card holding the place for others to come. I stay because of my love for my life, my life choices, my lifeway, for the ways of being with this place. I stay because I believe that the Creator in his infinite wisdom has placed my people where we belong. This is our place. This is where we were supposed to be.“And I stay because I feel that I can make a difference. if I just inspire one person, and that one person can inspire somebody else, and so on, then we continue our inhabitation.”Thanks for listening to A Peace of My Mind's podcast. In Isaiah 2, Isaiah envisions a glorious future where all the nations stream to worship the Lord and all their inhabitants lay down their weapons forever. Alex, Jim, and Sam discuss and, for the first time in a while, disagree.
In this conversation, we close the villain series with the Invisible Destroyer—also known as The Nothing from The NeverEnding Story. This archetype represents the paralysis of possibility, where imagination and inspiration remain ungrounded, slowly eroding both the self and those around it. We explore how this villain shows up as addiction, avoidance, and endless questioning, and how its transformation into the Architect brings creativity into embodied form. Along the way, we unpack how this arc blends qualities of the Enneagram 5 and 6, why Radiohead may be its unofficial soundtrack, and what it really takes to move from disappearing into inertia to choosing life, creation, and presence. We close with a vivid “Am I the Asshole?” example that grounds these themes in relationship dynamics.Timestamps00:00 — Welcome, final villain in the series00:15 — Invisible Destroyer, aka The Nothing00:30 — Archetypal map: Enneagram 9, head center, separation wound, house of addiction01:20 — Why it feels like “a combo of the 5 and 6”: evasive expert + divisive immortal01:45 — The NeverEnding Story and the Nothing as lack of human attention and imagination03:00 — Paralyzed by possibility: endless questions without action04:10 — The wake of destruction from inaction and addiction04:40 — Successful Antagonist: The Questioner, delaying decisions forever06:10 — Wounded Child: The Overwhelmed, never big enough to handle life07:00 — Covert Form: The Addict, disappearing through escapism08:10 — Hero: The Embodied, choosing incarnation, creation, and presence (with pleasure as a pathway)09:20 — Legend: The Architect, building grounded worlds from imagination10:00 — Why this arc belongs at the end of the villain cycle: outward, complex, foundational10:45 — Real-life dynamics: undervaluing presence and its destructive impact on relationships11:30 — AITA case study: birthday dinner, avoidance, blocking, and the Nothing's invisibility wound13:30 — Radiohead soundtrack: How to Disappear Completely, Lotus Flower, and the addictive undertones of disappearing17:00 — Closing thoughts: start with villains 1–6 before tackling the complexity of 7–9The arc at a glancePinnacle Villain: Invisible Destroyer (The Nothing) — Inspiration ungrounded, inertia that consumes.Successful Antagonist: The Questioner — Delays action indefinitely by demanding more certainty.Wounded Child: The Overwhelmed — Believes they can never be big enough to handle life.Covert Form: The Addict — Escapes through substances or compulsions, invisibly eroding relationships.Hero: The Embodied — Chooses presence, incarnation, creativity, and embodied pleasure.Legend: The Architect — Builds tangible worlds from imagination and dreams.Key ideas and languageThe Nothing: Inaction as destruction; the void left when imagination is unused.Addiction as covert destruction: Disappearing through self-harm, leaving collateral damage.Paralysis of possibility: Asking without acting, researching without deciding.Presence as medicine: Recognizing that showing up, even imperfectly, matters.Imagination grounded: Dreams are valuable only when incarnated into lived form.Practices for listenersPleasure as embodimentUse sexual or sensual pleasure as a direct route into your body.Notice how aliveness shifts when you commit to being present in sensation. The small action rulePick one tiny step toward creation daily, even if imperfect.Doing badly is better than not doing at all.Name the overwhelmWrite down three things you cannot do right now. Then choose one thing you can do and act on it.Reclaim visibilityAsk yourself: “Where am I pretending my presence doesn't matter?”Practice showing up where you assume no one cares.Case study insightsBirthday dinner scenario: Downplaying one's presence leads to relational collapse. Tom Homan, President Trump's Border Czar and former Acting ICE Director, joined The Guy Benson Show today to discuss the latest developments in Operation Midway Blitz and the effort to finish the ICE operations launched during Trump's first term. Homan also responded to Mika Brzezinski's inflammatory comments made to him on Morning Joe accusing ICE of "disappearing people," and pushed back on the dangerous rhetoric framing ICE agents as the "Gestapo" which he said puts law enforcement officers at risk every single day. Homan also responded to the left's rhetoric claiming that ICE is "racially profiling" criminals that they arrest, and you can listen to the full interview below! Learn more about your ad choices. Culture is shaping how we see marriage, parenting, and even desire itself. That's why I created Desire Lab (https://hifam.com/desire ) — my membership for women who want to reignite polarity, attraction, and chemistry in long-term relationships, even when cultural messages push the opposite. Today, I'm unpacking those same culture-wide forces and how they're driving birth rates down across the West. We're told it's about money, stability, or timing… but are those really the reasons? Or is something deeper happening beneath the surface? If you've ever questioned whether parenthood is still worth it — or felt the tension between culture's messages and your own longings — this episode is for you.
A late-night joyride. Leftover fireworks. It should have been just another reckless night for two friends, pushing the boundaries of boredom the day after the 4th of July. But the darkness of the county road held something they never expected. At 4:42 a.m., their headlights fell on him: a man in a blue shirt, standing perfectly still at the mouth of the road. He raised his hand, not in greeting, but in a slow, deliberate motion that said only one thing—stop. Adrenaline surged. They hit the gas, tearing past him into the night. But curiosity—or maybe arrogance—made them circle back minutes later. That was their mistake. The man was gone. No car parked nearby, no shadow slipping into the trees, no place to vanish. Just empty fields and silence thick enough to make the air feel wrong. Who was he? A stranded traveler lost in the dark? A spirit tied to the graves that lined the road? Or something far older, waiting for the right set of headlights to catch him at just the right time? One simple detour turned into a moment frozen in memory, a night that blurred the line between the living and the dead. Because when the road tells you to stop—and you don't—sometimes what's waiting on the other side is more than you bargained for. #RealGhostStoriesOnline #Haunted #PhantomStranger #ParanormalEncounter #CemeteryGhost #HauntedRoads #BlueShirtMan #CreepyEncounter #BackRoadHaunting #Unexplained Love real ghost stories?
