It's hard to believe that it's taken us this long to do "Karma Chameleon," but maybe we needed to be at our A-game to handle a song this amazing. If you were alive in 1983, you would have heard this tune everywhere and you would have loved it! We go deep into the background of the band and the song, and we find out that it's a lot darker than we realized. Nevertheless, the joys of the song endure as our memories of 1983 come and go, come and go. Diese schillernde Band hat in den ohnehin schon bunten 80ern nochmal eine Extra-Portion Farbe reingebracht. Mit Songs wie "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me", "Time", "It's A Miracle" oder "Karma Chameleon" waren Culture Club damals Dauergast in den Charts. Aber nicht nur die Musik, sondern auch die extravagante Erscheinung ihres Sängers Boy George sorgte für Aufsehen - vor allem beim ersten Fernseh-Auftritt, der eigentlich gar nicht geplant war... Do they know it's inappropriate after all? Band Aid is back for a 40th-anniversary nightmare mash-up. While we love an '80s supergroup, we all know better now—or do we? We uncover what Tim Curry was doing to Freddie Mercury's bushes and explore the meaning behind the lyrics of Karma Chameleon. Spoiler: the phrase “Calmer Chameleon” does not appear anywhere. Dori reminisces about The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show, but all Paulo wants to know is: how does Snoopy poop? Surely, he's above popping a squat in the backyard? Paulo uses sound effects to review the film Lady Terminator. Who knew a dick kick sounded like that? Finally, we share our Christmas wish lists. Dibs on the evil George Michael throw cushion! When she realises how few awards they've won, she'll be back. Remember the TV Show, Adderley? Raise your left-hand if you do. The Alan Sanders Show
Slip and fall, angry Biden, migrant costs, Press against 1A, Google Ad lies, Trump and Musk chat, Walz stole and a laugh line

The Alan Sanders Show

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 14, 2024 108:01

Today opens with my explanation for why there was no show yesterday. So, today, will be a bit longer as I combine the show prep I did across two days. Joe Biden once again repeated the tall-tale of his time traversing China with Xi Jinping. Then he began his angry yelling at the audience. This is what happens with people in the midst of their decline into dementia. A new report from the New York Post reveals NYC has spend $5 billion dollars on illegals. Seems there is never money for homeless or veterans or the border wall, but there is plenty for non-Americans who broke the law to come here. Looks like members of the Press, protected under the 1A, are really upset that another part of the 1A is being used to allow Elon Musk to chat openly with Donald Trump. Cleve Wootson literally asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre what the President or the Administration was going to do to stop that broadcast from taking place. The Harris-Walz team is buying Google Ads and describing them as news headlines. They are not just paying off influencers to make an ad without calling it that, they are not using Google to make it look like ads are news stories. Time magazine decided to put a hero piece together for Kamala Harris, but they have to admit, inside the story, that she denied a request for an interview for that story. How is that not just another campaign ad disguised as a puff piece designed to sell covers? We then spend a good amount of time pulling sound bites from the over two hour conversation between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. They cover a wide range of subjects and ends on a great comment about how there are several things all Americans should be able to agree upon that are not party related. The Harris-Walz campaign was invited to do the same thing on X, but they turned it down and then put out a crybaby post decrying the unfairness of it. They then asked for a campaign donation out of it. CNN's Dana Bash selectively edited a piece from the conversation to make it sound like Trump and Musk were making light of the atomic bombs dropped in Japan. So, to show you how devious this is, I play the much longer cut to give you the full context of the conversation. Now that Kamala Harris is stealing the “no tax on tips” plank from Donald Trump, KJP was asked if Biden would sign such a bill. In a total like, we were told Joe Biden has always supported that. Well, if that's the case, why haven't they already passed that? With that, let's lighten the mood! My buddy Jim Gossett took my suggestion to heart and brings us a parody song about Kamala Harris put to the tune of Karma Chameleon. Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) is proud of his service. Great. No one has an issue with his service. The issue is him LYING about it. That's the real problem. As we start to wind down, you know it's getting bad when CNN is wanting to know when the Harris-Walz is going to have a press conference. As much as a spokesperson tried to dodge it, it wasn't working. Finally, CNN's Kaitlan Collins was on with Stephen Colbert to bash Donald Trump. However, as Colbert tried to sell CNN as an objective outlet, the audience burst out in laughter. Collins, feeling awkward, asked if that was supposed to be a laugh line? That is actually a rhetorical question. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. He was more than surprised when the figure answered: 'They call me Doc Nick'." – from The Ghost of 29 Megacycles by John G. Fuller. Close your eyes and picture this: it's the winter of 1984. Karma Chameleon is on the radio, Ronald Reagan just announced his candidacy for a second presidential term, and a young Richard was returning home late on a Saturday night when his brother, John, caught him in the hallway and made him listen to the scariest thing they'd ever heard. In this episode, Richard explores The Ghost of 29 Megacycles by John G. Fuller. This book chronicles the development and use of the Spiricom device, an invention claiming to facilitate two-way communication between the living and the dead. As Richard immerses himself in the pages of The Ghost of 29 Megacycles, which he found in 1997, he can't help but see himself reflected in the pages. You see, he was holed up in the Heathman Hotel in Portland, Oregon, working on The Mothman Prophecies. Through Meek's unwavering belief in the impossible, Richard finds inspiration to embrace his own sense of limitless belief, propelling him to finish the screenplay and truly bet on himself. Born George O'Dowd, Boy George shot to pop stardom in 1982 as frontman with the band Culture Club and later as a solo artist. With his soulful vocals and flamboyant, androgynous looks, he became a massive star around the world with hits such as Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? and Karma Chameleon. His personal struggles with drug addiction and a prison sentence in 2009 meant he was rarely far from tabloid headlines. In recent years he's been a judge on The Voice, survived the jungle in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, and has just published a new memoir called Karma. He continues to record and perform as a prolific solo singer songwriter. George discusses the impact that David Bowie had on him as a teenager and recalls seeing him at the Lewisham Odeon during the Ziggy Stardust tour of 1973. He also talks about the important influence of club promoter Philip Sallon who introduced him to London's gay scene in the late 1970s. Meeting Quentin Crisp in New York with Andy Warhol was also a formative cultural moment. George talks to John Wilson candidly about coping with fame and rebuilding his life after addiction and prison. Producer: Edwina Pitman
