NPM has been changing greatly in the last 18 months. Many members are familiar with the phrase “NPM 2.0”, an initiative to examine NPM at its core so we can best serve the members and vision it seeks to serve. I’m glad to say that this episode is a major update to our listeners as to how the process has developed. Today on the episode I feature Valerie Lee-Jeter and Bob McCarty. Valerie is the Music Director at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Philadelphia with an MA in Liturgical Studies, and is a member of the NPM Board of Directors. Bob McCarty is NPM’s interim Executive Director, having served in leadership and guidance roles in NPM regarding the NPM 2.0 initiative. Valerie, Bob and I sit down and discuss: what has changed? When will it go into effect? And when will we retire the use of the phrase, “NPM 2.0”?
Both Jennifer and Bob are here to talk about Ministry Days

Over the last few years, NPM has undertaken a variety of new initiatives to serve the needs of the singing and praying church. Throughout the next few months, I’ll be bringing you conversations that highlight these programs and give updates as to their progress and development.Today, we’re focusing on the topic of emerging leaders. As pastoral ministers, we are called to help identify and develop the gifts of lots of people in lots of ways: cantors, accompanists, lectors, ministers of hospitality, and more. Yet, we are often stymied by the challenge of succession planning. We ask ourselves: Who will come after us? Who will continue this work already begun? Where are the next generation of leaders? To help us explore these questions and the challenges we face in answering them, we’re joined once again by Dr. Bob McCarty. We’ll also remember the late Rachel Held Evans in today’s Ministry Moment.

Each major convention of Catholic organizations includes at least one session that address a variation of the question, "Where have the youth gone?" In today's episode, we speak with Dr. Bob McCarty about new research into the disaffiliation of young Catholics, why we are asking wrong questions, and what the take-aways are for those of us in liturgical and pastoral ministry. We also hear from Sr. Anne Bryan Smollin, CSJ (1943-2014) on the dynamic importance of "the little things" in building and enriching interpersonal relationships.
