It takes readers from the incandescence of Las Vegas to the spangled skies of rural Nevada. It was named a finalist this month for a Colorado Book Award in creative nonfiction. Is operating under strict financial regulation an innovation killer or its greatest catalyst? Host Peter Smulovics (Distinguished Engineer at Morgan Stanley and FINOS Zenith Lead) sits down with Dr. Aditya Vikram Kashyap (FINOS Ambassador, IEEE Senior Member, and Forbes Technology Council member) for an insightful episode of the Open Source in Finance Podcast from the FINOS Zenith Special Interest Group. Innovation and regulation are often portrayed as opposing forces: innovation wants speed and freedom, while regulation introduces constraints and controls. But in financial services, and increasingly with AI, the reality is much more complicated. Good governance can actually make innovation possible at scale, while bad governance can become its own source of risk.Together Dr. Kashyap and Peter challenge the narrative that speed and control are opposing forces. Dr. Kashyap breaks down how regulatory frameworks like model risk management (SR 11-7) and NIST post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards force architectural clarity, why the "cost of delay" is the most under-managed enterprise risk, and how to structure continuous governance for agentic AI fleets.

Jason Mayden walked into Jordan Brand in 2001 as its first design intern. He designed the Air Jordan 2009 and the Jordan CP3.II, left in 2014 to build his own companies, and came back a decade later to run design for the entire brand. This past May he stepped out of that job into one that did not exist until he took it, VP of Jordan Visioneering and LA28 Creative Lead.We talked about the Air Jordan 41, and about almost everything except the spec sheet. He explains what he had to unpack coming back into the building, and lands on the line that frames the whole conversation, that this is a reverential era and not a referential one. He responds to what Leo Chang and Donald Kelsey found on the road this year, six months of research across three continents where not one young athlete asked for the heritage colors. He makes the case that the women's game is where the next real change in basketball footwear comes from, and explains why he studies technical boxing to think about design. He talks about the Air Jordan XX3 and working alongside Mark Smith, Tinker Hatfield, and Tom Foxen when the fight was over solvent free glue. He talks about the crew building the game shoe now, and what it was like to watch them come into their own. He talks about criticism, and why indifference is the only reaction that would bother him.And he tells the story of being seven years old in a hospital bed, fighting a blood infection, imagining himself as Lucius Fox working for Michael Jordan, who he thought was Bruce Wayne. That is where the word visioneering comes from. One line from this conversation has stayed with me since we recorded it. You never really finish an Air Jordan, you just run out of time.Nick Engvall has worked in the sneaker industry for over two decades. The threat landscape has become more interconnected, disruptive, and complex. Ransomware is now as much about extortion and data theft as it is about encryption. Supply chain events can create outages that ripple far beyond the initial target, and business interruption increasingly comes from third-party and cloud dependencies. How should CISOs prepare for these scenarios? Dan Bowden, Global Business CISO at Marsh, joins Business Security Weekly to discuss how to connect cyber risk to the outcomes boards care about most: resilience, financial exposure, regulatory impact, and reputation. CISOs need to position cyber as an enterprise risk, not a technical risk, that can be measured, prioritized, and managed alongside other strategic risks. Dan will discuss the results of Marsh's Cyber Catalyst research and Global Cyber Claims Report. Community banks and credit unions are the lifeblood of their communities, and the best are always growing. That said, it's not easy, and there's no magic pill. Instead, growth is the result of a holistic strategy—and it all begins with leadership. When leaders model the right attitudes and buy-in, it permeates throughout the organization to create the kind of culture that gets results and has fun doing it. That's why at Haberfeld, we are deeply committed to helping leaders foster environments that make banking rewarding for employees and accountholders alike. In this episode, hosts Scott Friesen and Susan Kubert speak with Haberfeld President Dr. Sean Payant and Sr. Executive VP of Business Development Preston Afrank about their personal leadership journeys, their views on growth, and what it takes to build a culture that delivers. Listen without ads: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast DOPEYCON TICKETS: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2345507 This week on Dopey! Viral comedian and school custodian Jimmy Cash joins Dopey to tell a funny, painful, and unmistakably Dopey recovery story. Jimmy grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts, surrounded by addiction and Alcoholics Anonymous. His father—a high-school janitor—died from an overdose when Jimmy was nine, while his mother cycled through addiction, recovery, and relationships with other janitors. After watching The Basketball Diaries as a child, Jimmy became obsessed with getting high before he had even tried a real drug. By his teens, Jimmy was smoking weed, drinking, taking psychedelics, using cocaine and ketamine, getting arrested, and fighting with police. He recalls punching a cop who was kindly driving him home, attacking the weak knee of a college RA—or at least being accused of it—and causing a coked-out disaster at an IHOP that ended with him breaking the handle off a police car and being beaten in custody. Court-ordered AA eventually became genuine recovery. Jimmy got sober in 2003, built a family, became a custodian, and pursued his lifelong dream of stand-up comedy. His janitor videos went viral, leading to national attention and an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. But after more than 20 years without drinking or using, divorce, career pressure, grief, isolation, and insomnia left Jimmy sleeping on his younger sister's couch. He began “nibbling” cannabis edibles, quickly recognized that he was getting high, and made the humbling decision to return to AA and pick up a new 24-hour chip. Musician and singer-songwriter Jon Mads Blue joins Coach Dini on Vigilantes Radio Live for a conversation about rediscovering creativity, returning to music after decades away, and why sometimes the things we're meant to do have a strange way of finding us again.Jon's latest single, “New Car,” comes from his upcoming album GRAVITY (no situation) and mixes pop-rock energy with humor through the story of a man who may love his automobile just a little more than his relationship. But Jon's story reaches far beyond one song. After picking up the guitar at 12, playing in a band by 16 and developing an early love for songwriting, life eventually moved music to the background. He spent three decades in real estate and several years painting before unexpectedly returning to the guitar. Soon the songs began flowing again, old musical relationships resurfaced, and a handful of ideas quickly became a full collection of material.Jon and Coach Dini explore the influence of The Beatles, the role of humor in songwriting, why positivity matters in his music, the freedom of creating without chasing trends, and what it means to rediscover a dream later in life.Sometimes you don't have to find your passion again.Sometimes you simply have to become quiet enough to notice that it never really left.Website: https://jonmadsblue.bandzoogle.com/Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61564688535115.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jonmadsblue/TikTok:  https://www.tiktok.com/@jonmadsblue?lang=enSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/21vQQ5rAfJdmifthp9YrxlYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-OQ7tZBq9Q5pfnsMtOSylgBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/vigilantes-radio-live--2166168/support.Vigilantes Radio Live! by The Only One Media Group ℗©2025Episode Credits:Produced, edited, mixed, and written by Demetrius "Whodini Blak" Reynolds, Sr.Artwork designed by Demetrius "Whodini Blak" Reynolds, Sr.Show Introduction by KateSegment jingles composed & produced by Demetrius "Whodini Blak" Reynolds, Sr.Additional music licensed through 7th Sign RecordingsLinks:onlyonemediagroup.comhttps://www.instagram.com/vigilantesradio/https://www.iheart.com/podcast/966-vigilantes-radio-live-29999229/https://www.instagram.com/whodiniblakin3d/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt26009230/To support our show, please leave reviews, ratings, or you can help fuel the passion over at buymeacoffee.com/vigilantesradioEmail us at onlyonemgt@gmail.com or vradio@onlyonemediagroup.com

How Consistent Values Drive Unforgettable Service   Shep interviews Cheryl Christensen, Sr. Vice President of Operations at Gathering Place. She talks about her journey from frontline roles to leadership at Disney and the impact of culture, service, and growth opportunities.    This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more:     What is the best way to handle customer outreach after a bad experience?   What three job responsibilities should every employee in a service company share?   How does servant leadership boost employee engagement and retention?   How can companies turn customer complaints into operational improvement?   What is the best way to handle customer outreach after a bad experience?    Top Takeaways:      Every job, even the simplest ones like bussing tables or cleaning up, can help build leadership skills. Every workplace is a place to grow. When employees are given opportunities to contribute, develop new skills, and take on challenges, a temporary job can become the beginning of a bigger career.    Every employee should be empowered to do the job they were hired to do, take care of the guests or the customers, and pay attention to what needs to be done around them.    Great experiences are not the responsibility of one department. When employees consistently take ownership beyond their immediate tasks, service becomes part of the culture rather than something confined to the customer support department.    A complaint is an opportunity to improve the experience. Responding directly, acknowledging the customer's frustration, explaining what happened, and finding a way to repair the relationship, like inviting them back, can turn a negative experience into a positive one.    The most valuable feedback does not have to come from a formal survey. Sometimes, it comes from employees who work with customers every day and see what delights or frustrates them. Collecting this feedback can help create insights that turn into actions that can improve customer experience.    Leaders who notice employees' talents and give them new challenges help create a place where people want to stay. Because growth is one of the most important things that keeps employees motivated, leaders need to provide an environment where employees feel they can learn new skills and will be rewarded for their effort.    Plus, Shep and Cheryl share customer service stories from her 37-year career journey at Disney and her current role at Gathering Place. Tune in!    Quote:     "Get hooked on your organization's magic. When your skills are recognized, and you're placed in roles where you can truly contribute, it creates meaning for you and the company. Always look for new ways to contribute and go beyond your basic role."     About:     Cheryl Christensen is the Sr. Vice President of Operations at Gathering Place. She had a 37-year career with the Disneyland Resort, where she held leadership positions in Operations and Human Resources.    Shep Hyken is a customer service and experience expert, New York Times bestselling author, award-winning keynote speaker, and host of Amazing Business Radio.    Learn more about your ad choices.
