Roy L Hales/ Cortes Currents - Eric Denis grew up in Quebec and is the technical operator of machines at Island Sea Farms. Melissa Steblyk comes from Alberta, is a substitute teacher at the Cortes Island School, and also manages the Gorge Marina. Last May, they launched a moped rental business called Cortes Cruiser in the Gorge. It didn't start out that way. Melissa Steblyk: “Eric's got three kids, and his oldest is almost 16. We were thinking a scooter would be a great option for him when he gets his license.” Eric Denis: “In March, we bought that first bike. It was one of those Yamaha BWS—just a little bit of a beater. It was for my kids, so it was like, ‘We'll fix it up.'” The Vision for Cortes Cruiser Melissa Steblyk: “We bought one, and then we were like, ‘Why don't we buy another one? Maybe we could rent them out.' People are constantly asking, ‘How do we get around the island? We want to see Cortes. We want to experience this.' I was like, ‘I don't know what you can do. You can hitchhike, if you'd like.' Then the idea dawned on us. We're at the Gorge—we have a setup here. I work at the marina, I can promote it through word of mouth right there, and we can really see it going somewhere.” Cortes Currents: They approached Marco Bedetti, manager of The Gorge Harbour Marina, with the idea of renting out their mopeds at the resort. Eric Denis: “Marco's a good friend. I've known Marco since I moved here, when he was working under Bill Dougan and Tammy Allwork back in the day. I worked at Island Sea Farms as well. I'm a liveaboard—I've been living here at the Gorge for the winters. I'm out of the dock for the summer, but I come back for the winter.” Melissa Steblyk: “I've been working at the Gorge. I've been at the marina for the last two years—this is going to be my third year. I have a good working relationship and friendship with Marco, and I understand the need people have, especially coming in on a boat. “He said, ‘Okay, if you guys want to do this, you need to come up with a business plan. You have to sell me on this a little bit if we're going to bring you into it.'” Eric Denis: “For people who come by boat, it gives them a good opportunity to visit the rest of the island.” Melissa Steblyk: “Go to Squirrel Cove, check out the food truck there. Drive over to Manson's, enjoy the beach, check out the lake, and then go to the co-op—Bertha's—and have a snack. And maybe take that down to Smelt Bay. Those are the main things we recommend.” Eric Denis: “So we came up with a good plan, and he set me up really well at the Gorge.” Melissa Steblyk: “I'm not saying we're tied to the Gorge—we're still a separate entity—but we're located here.” Getting Started Cortes Currents: They decided to purchase five mopeds. Eric Denis: “We started researching, and we went for some 49cc automatic Honda Ruckus scooters. They've got Honda reliability.” Melissa Steblyk: “We wanted something that still looked great, ran well, and we knew it could handle the island.” Eric Denis: “We set up a trailer close by the Gorge staff area. I have the five bikes over there and a little bit of a shop so I can maintain them.” Cortes Currents: When did you rent the first moped out? Eric Denis: “The May long weekend during Seafest. A couple from Campbell River came by jet ski, wanted to do some house hunting. They just went, ‘Oh, this is easy.' Then they went on a cruise for a couple of hours.” Melissa Steblyk: “We hadn't even posted yet—we were still trying to figure out how they found us. They might have just been walking by. We didn't have everything fully organized, but we were close enough. They saw us, and that was our first rental.”

Most cruisers walk into their cabin, throw their bags on the bed, and start unpacking. Big mistake. After more than 125 cruises, I've learnt – sometimes the hard way – that there are a handful of vital checks you should always do before you unpack a single item. In this video I take you inside a real cruise cabin and show you exactly what I personally check the moment I arrive on board. I also explain why it's absolutely critical to do these checks on embarkation day, when problems are far easier to fix, cabins are still moving around, and engineers are on full standby. Leave it until later in the cruise and you could be stuck with issues that never get resolved. If you want your next cruise to start smoothly – without nasty surprises, wasted time at Guest Services, or sleepless nights – these are the 10 cabin checks every cruiser must do before unpacking. This week on Driving Law, Kyla Lee and Paul Doroshenko discuss a major Court of Appeal decision involving ICBC hit-and-run claims and whether victims must investigate crashes themselves in order to obtain compensation. The court ultimately rejected the idea that injured drivers should conduct their own investigations when police efforts have already failed to identify a suspect. They also examine a judicial review involving a roadside breath test refusal and the difficulties drivers face challenging Immediate Roadside Prohibitions. The discussion highlights how credibility assessments and vague roadside statements can be used to uphold driving prohibitions, raising broader concerns about fairness in the system. Plus, the Ridiculous Driver of the Week features an unbelievable police pursuit where a cruiser ends up high-centered on a trailer before another officer attempts a PIT maneuver. It's a brand-new year and a brand-new episode of The Podcastaways—and we're kicking off 2026 by laying down the unwritten rules of cruise etiquette that everyone should know… but many clearly don't.Trevor and Thomas dive into the dos and don'ts of life at sea, from chair hogging and elevator chaos to teen curfews, adults-only areas, buffet behavior, and why ship time is not a suggestion. We also break down Carnival's stricter enforcement of the 1 a.m. curfew for under-18 cruisers, debate whether lifetime bans are too harsh, and talk about cruise lines like Oceania and Viking going fully adults-only.Along the way, expect real cruise stories, pet peeves, questionable passenger behavior, a little AI chaos, and plenty of laughs—because if you're going to cruise, you might as well do it without becoming that person everyone complains about.Whether you're a first-time cruiser or a seasoned Platinum pro, this episode might save your vacation—or at least keep you from getting side-eyed on the Lido deck.

In this week's episode of the Cape CopCast 'Chief's Chat,' we dive into the surge of juveniles on e-bikes, scooters, and even dirt bikes showing up on our streets, and we get real about what's fun, what's legal, and what's flat-out dangerous. From kids riding three-abreast and blocking traffic, to 30 mph sidewalk rides through shopping centers, we unpack the behavior patterns putting riders, drivers, pedestrians and local businesses at risk—and how we're responding. You'll hear how trespass authority at shopping centers works, why citations and bike seizures are now on the table, and where the line is between harmless cruising and reckless endangerment. We break down the basics parents need: the 10 mph sidewalk limit, helmet and lighting requirements, when a “bike” is actually a motor vehicle that needs registration, and the real consequences of fleeing from a traffic stop. Our goal isn't to crush outdoor fun; it's to keep kids alive, spare families heartache, and protect the community's peace.Amid the tough talk on safety, we share the heart of our December: the 'Holiday Heroes Food Drive' with partners who turn every dollar into more meals, 'Stuff the Cruiser' and 'Fill the Boat' toy collections that go straight to local kids, and 'Shop with a Cop'—pairing officers and students for a morning of joy. These programs stay local, move fast, and meet real needs, from food insecurity to foster family support, with long-standing partners who show up year after year.If you're considering an e-bike gift for your child or loved one, this is your checklist and conversation starter. If you want to be part of something good, this is your roadmap to make a direct impact where you live.

Welcome back to the Always Be Booked Cruise Podcast. Host Tommy Casabona catches up with Mike Gormley of "The Nauti Cruiser" for a Thursday Conversation.
In this hilarious yet cautionary segment of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards crowns his "F'd Around and Found Out Champions of the Day"—a group of women in Richmond Heights, Ohio, who were caught on camera twerking on a police cruiser back in June 2025, only to be identified and charged thanks to facial recognition technology. Borrowing from a WLBT affiliate report out of Cleveland's WOIO (19 News), Clay plays the clip showing the women climbing onto the cruiser's hood and push bumper outside a hotspot in Hilltop Plaza, causing a dent and significant scratch while an officer sat inside. With help from the Northeast Ohio Regional Fusion Center and Clearview AI software—plus some social media sleuthing—detectives tracked them down, issuing warrants for rioting and criminal damaging of a police vehicle. Clay quips that everything on social media "stays forever and may be used against you in a court of law," urging the women to turn themselves in. Tying it local, Clay shares exclusive footage from a bizarre 2021 incident right in Jackson, Mississippi, where a woman was filmed twerking on a JPD cruiser during what appeared to be a mental health (5150) call at an apartment complex—no charges were filed, but it ended with her being detained and an ambulance on scene. He humorously questions if twerking is a "nervous twitch" or anxiety reliever for some, linking it to broader trends like Black content creators accusing Carnival Cruises of racism for banning twerking and rap music (which Clay says plays right into the cruise line's hands). For a sobering twist, he recounts a tragic case from last month where a recent high school grad died after falling off a moving car's roof while twerking and getting run over by a firetruck. This "Twerk Fest" segment blends comedy, critique, and real-life consequences, showcasing Clay's unfiltered style on inappropriate antics and modern surveillance. Tune in for more FAFO moments, laughs, and raw commentary. Follow @SaveJXN on social media for clips and updates!
I'm just back from a cruise on Explora Journeys Explora 2, and was disappointed how many passengers I met on there are still following cruise tips that frankly I know are overrated and out-of-date. Tips that many cruising articles and videos are still recommending cruisers use. I'm Gary Bembridge, and I want to tell you about four overrated cruise tips I think you should ditch overboard and (importantly) what you should be doing instead. Everything you need to know about this cruiser-based, crowd-sourced, social app. We rely on it every day! Summary When you've arrived at a new anchorage, how do you figure out how to find necessities? Especially if you're out of range of The Boat Galley cruising guides? After all, there are places where cruising guides don't exist. Luckily I have a great resource to share. Cruising is more than dolphins and beautiful sunsets. Sometimes, you gotta get stuff done, like buying groceries or diesel. Or maybe you're just craving a restaurant meal or want a fun day off the boat. You have a few options for finding information. You can read guides and hope the information isn't out of date. You can review Google Maps. You can even dinghy around to other boaters and ask. They're all helpful resources. And the last might even introduce you to a new friend. We rely on the app NoForeignLand.com. No information is hidden behind a paywall. There are no pop-up ads. You can support them on Patreon. But they don't sell user's information. Social features include tracking other boats. Information is provided by cruisers for cruisers. One feature even allows you to call for information from others directly on the app. Created by cruisers for cruisers, the information is relevant to our needs. I highly recommend it, no matter where you're traveling. For more details, listen to the full podcast or check out No Foreign Land - An Excellent Resource for Cruisers. In this episode, we talk about the 2025 Harley-Davidson Cruiser lineup. I had the opportunity to attend the press event in Austin, Texas, and ride these new cruisers. Keep in mind I only got a few hours with these bikes, but I give you my impressions of the six cruisers that were upgraded. All six received the Milwaukee-8 117 engine and rider safety enhancements. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Test Ride Impressions Street Bob 117: A Lightweight & Agile Cruiser Ideal for shorter riders: At 5'8", I found the ergonomics to be comfortable with mid-controls and a well-positioned handlebar. Analog Speedometer with Digital Readout: Displays essential ride data, including RPMs, fuel range, and tire pressure monitoring. Torque & Power: The Classic variant of the Milwaukee-Eight 117 delivers 98 horsepower and 120 lb-ft of torque, making it a punchy yet easy-to-handle ride. Breakout 117: A Bold & Stylish Power Cruiser Fat rear tire: While it adds to the aggressive look, it makes handling a bit heavier, especially in corners. Forward Controls & More Vibration: Riders experience more road feedback through handlebars and pegs. Custom Variant Power: 104 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque, with a more rev-happy powerband. Single Front Brake Setup: Works well but lacks the stopping power of dual-disc setups. Fat Boy 117: Classic Comfort & Power More Comfortable for 5'8" Riders: The handlebar placement is better than the Breakout, allowing a more relaxed posture. Floorboards Instead of Pegs: Adds comfort for long-distance cruising. Lean Angle Considerations: 25.6-degree lean angle limits aggressive cornering but suits the bike's cruising nature. Low Rider ST & Low Rider S: Performance-Oriented Cruisers High Output Variant: 114 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque, delivering a more aggressive ride. Inverted Front Forks: Improve handling and front-end stability. Low Rider ST vs. S: ST: Features a club-style fixed fairing and saddlebags for light touring. S: A more stripped-down, performance-driven variant. Ergonomics: At 5'8", I found the bars well-placed and mid-controls comfortable, but longer trips might benefit from forward controls. Heritage Classic: The Underrated Tourer Classic Styling: Traditional Harley look with leather saddlebags and a detachable windshield. Most Comfortable Seat in the Cruiser Lineup: Ideal for long rides. Perfect for Touring: Though classified as a cruiser, it's a mid-level touring bike with great wind protection and relaxed ergonomics. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Safety & Rider Aids Advanced Rider Safety Enhancements All 2025 Harley-Davidson cruisers come with modern rider safety aids: Cornering & Straight-Line ABS & Traction Control ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) Drag-Torque Slip Control I had the chance to test these features in controlled conditions, and they proved highly effective in preventing full loss of traction. Upgraded Handlebar Controls Cruise Control Now Standard across all cruiser models. Refined Switch Housings: Mode selection, turn signals, and traction control toggles are more intuitive. Cable Clutch vs. Hydraulic Clutch Harley continues to use cable-operated clutches, which require periodic adjustments. While functional, I strongly prefer the consistency of a hydraulic system, which would be a welcome upgrade in future models. Final Thoughts: Which 2025 Harley Cruiser is Right for You? Best for Performance Riders: Low Rider ST / Low Rider S If you prioritize aggressive handling, power, and sportier ergonomics, these models are for you. Best for Classic Cruiser Fans With Windshield: Heritage Classic If comfort, traditional styling, and a versatile ride are your priorities, this is an excellent choice. Best for Aggressive Styling & Chopper Look: Breakout 117 If you want bold styling with a fat rear tire and strong acceleration, the Breakout is a head-turner. Best Entry-Level Cruiser: Street Bob 117 A lightweight, easy-handling bike with great ergonomics for shorter riders. Best for All-Day Comfort Without A Windshield: Fat Boy 117 With its plush seat and floorboards, the Fat Boy is perfect for relaxed cruising. Conclusion After two full days of testing the 2025 Harley-Davidson cruiser lineup, it's clear that each model caters to different riding styles. Whether you're looking for a performance machine, a laid-back cruiser, or something in between, Harley's 2025 lineup has something for everyone. If you found this review helpful, be sure to check out my in-depth video review on YouTube below, where I take each of these bikes for a test ride and break down their features even further! The 2025 Harley-Davidson cruiser lineup has arrived, and I had the opportunity to test ride and review six models in Austin, Texas. At first glance, the changes may seem minor, but after extensive hands-on experience, I can confidently say that each bike offers a unique riding experience. Whether you're a seasoned rider or looking to purchase your first cruiser, this guide will help you choose the right model for your needs.
