Durand Mayor Ken McDonough joins Michigan Criminal Defense Attorney Bill Amadeo in a new Shiawassee Radio episode of "The Jail Visit." Also joining Amadeo on this episode is The Argus-Press reporter, Josh Champlin, who broke stories and has written extensively about Shiawassee politics, specifically, recent controversies involving the Shiawassee Board of Commissioners. McDonough has announced a run for County Commissioner for District 4.  McDonough said current commissioner for the fourth district, Brandon Marks, told him that he will not be running again.  McDonough says he won't seek reelection with the city when his term is up in November, but says he has enjoyed being the mayor and speaks proudly of accomplishments the city has made during his time as mayor. McDonough says he plans to be "honest, up front" as a county commissioner just as he has been as Durand's mayor. Josh Champlin said calling Shiawassee politics 'dirty' is "an understatement."  McDonough tells the story of misinformation being spread during a previous campaign where a phone call was placed to homeowners throughout the county, providing alleged outrageous plans that McDonough had for the city and Durand Union Station.  Asking what role Brian Boggs, who is a Durand city council member as well as Shiawassee county coordinator, will play in the upcoming election, McDonough said to Amadeo "It's going to be interesting." "I just seem to feel [with the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners], he was almost like a puppet master in a lot of things that happened," Amadeo said. The trio also talks the state of Project Tim and possible new plans for Durand as a statewide "super site." Hear the full discussion NOW in this episode of The Jail Visit!

From his warehouse in West Asheville, Brian Boggs designs and builds wooden chairs with tools and machines you just can't find at a Home Depot. Every carving tool that fits in your hand and every machine to cut and shape boards, Boggs built them himself. "The way it saws makes a huge difference in how you work the material," Boggs said. "It gives us an edge that most woodworkers just don't have." Up close, the contraptions look like high school shop class projects. But they're at the center of an operation employing seven people, plus Boggs' wife, and preparing for the Dubai Hotel Show , in the United Arab Emirates.

Embracing purpose to change business culture... Nathan sits down with Brian Boggs and Melanie Moeller Boggs, co-owners of Brian Boggs Chairmakers for the 73rd episode of the Finding Asheville podcast. They chat about growing up in Kentucky and the Dominican Republic, how frustration as an artist with only being able to tell stories through two dimensions lead to a career in woodworking, why identifying your purpose and your company’s purpose provides a roadmap to creating a business culture you ultimately want, why failure in 2008 despite being in business for 15 years lead to Brian actually thinking about his craft as a business, and how dramatically changing life conditions can prevent you from falling back into unhelpful routines. This episode was mixed at Mojo Coworking at 60 North Market Street in Downtown Asheville.
