LeBron James and Russell Westbrook Fuel Win Over the Pistons. Is the Lakers' Rotation changing?

Locked On Lakers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Lakers

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 29, 2021 34:15

There was nothing inspiring about Sunday's 110-106 win for the Lakers over the Pistons at Staples Center. After a dominant third quarter (no, seriously), it looked like L.A. might finally get themselves the type of easy win that would make it possible to have a little fun, and at least feel for a minute or two like they're a legitimately good team. To get a little swagger and build some momentum. Nope. A 19-point advantage was whittled away, and the Lakers had to hold off Detroit down the stretch. So that's the downside. The upside? They won, and given how the season has gone to this point, that's about all you can ask for. It was a good night for the Big Three, with Anthony Davis dominating early (13 first quarter points), Russell Westbrook (25/6/9 w/ only three turnovers) playing well throughout and LeBron James (33/5/9) doing LeBron things. After, they talked about building blocks and small goals as they try to right the ship. Whether the patience and calm is performative or not - really, what's the other option? - it's clear the Lakers as a group know there is a tremendous amount of work to be done. To that end, more changes in the rotation are coming. Vogel indicated that they plan to lean more into small ball, particularly in the second units, which means that for the time being fans are likely to see DeAndre Jordan or Dwight Howard on any given night, but likely not both. That's good! And while you can debate which guy is better or when he should play, some of that is just not all that important. On the other hand, Avery Bradley still looks like he's going to absorb a decent chunk of playing time, night to night. That's a little harder to defend. On to Sacramento! HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: A win's a win's a win's a win, right? SEGMENT 2: What do the Lakers think of themselves? And is LeBron, who aggrivated that ab/groin thing on Sunday, really as "good to go" as he claims? SEGMENT 3: The rotation may change, again. What to expect, and will it help? This BOMBSHELL IS BACK! That's right! We rebranded the podcast BACK to Bombshell Business Podcast because the truth is the majority of you are women, and the men who engage in our community are self-aware, hungry to learn and totally secure in their masculinity to continue to be a “Bombshell Boy.” In this episode I share that my social legacy is empowering women not just with confidence, but with personal power. And then I break down with data (of course) why women are simply less confident than men before social norms, wounds, or jackass professional men doing gross things even come into play.  Tune in now to get OK with not being inherently confident. (You're not designed to be.) Then, hear about the solution for you to help you practice confidence like you would tennis, cooking, or anything you desire to get better at.  Links & Mentioned Resources My interview with Emily Chang, author of The Spare Room: Define Your Social Legacy to Live a More Intentional Life and Lead with Authentic Purpose Data Referenced in the Episode From “The Confidence Gap” via The Atlantic: In studies, men overestimate their abilities and performance, and women underestimate both. Their performances do not differ in quality. When women do negotiate, they ask for 30 percent less money than men do.  On average, men five years into their career think they deserve $80,000 a year and the women $64,000—or 20 percent less. Hewlett-Packard discovered several years ago, that women working at HP applied for a promotion only when they believed they met 100 percent of the qualifications listed for the job. Men were happy to apply when they thought they could meet 60 percent of the job requirements.  “Men have about 10 times more testosterone than women do, impacting everything from speed to strength to muscle size to competitive instinct… ...Recent research has tied high testosterone levels to an appetite for risk taking.” “Our brain is ‘hard-wired' to be negative. Neuroscience shows that the majority of our self-talk is negative — it's working against us. These negative thoughts make us feel angry, irritated, frustrated, hopelessness.” (Thrive Global) We can actually train our brains to become more confident. Recent discoveries in neuroscience suggest our brains have the quality of "neuroplasticity," meaning the networks it uses to communicate information are malleable much later into life than previously thought. (Big Think) “Confidence is not a fixed attribute; it's the outcome of the thoughts we think and the actions we take. New research into neural plasticity reveals that we can literally rewire our brains in ways that affect our thoughts and behavior at any age.” (Forbes) 5 Days, 5 Ways to Restore Your Personal Power Challenge Launches 12/6! Abstract The oilseed Ethiopian mustard (Brassica carinata) has been proposed as a supplemental cash crop grown over the winter fallow season in the mild climates of the southeastern US and used as a feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production, with potential co-benefits for soil carbon and other ecosystem services. In this work we used a process-based ecosystem model to establish initial expectations for total regional SAF production potential and associated soil greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when carianata is integrated into existing annual crop rotations across its frost-tolerant range in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. We calibrated the DayCent ecosystem model based on carinata field trials in the region, and used it to evaluate the yields, soil carbon, and nitrous oxide emissions when carinata is integrated once ever third winter within those existing crop rotations. We estimate this could produce more than one billion liters of SAF annually and would be approximately neutral in terms of cropland soil GHG emissions. However, the adoption of climate-smart management techniques such as no-till establishment or organic amendments would result in a substantial soil carbon sink, significantly improving the overall environmental footprint of the resulting SAF. He studies the performance of bioenergy systems at the intersection of ecosystem ecology and life cycle assessment, using process-based ecosystem models to evaluate the effect of biomass feedstock production on ecosystem carbon storage and greenhouse gas emissions. Feedstocks he has studied include switchgrass, corn stover, winter oilseed crops, and wood from trees killed by mountain pine beetle outbreaks in the Rocky Mountains. Much of his work has focused on bioenergy landscape design, including how feedstock production could be targeted on marginal lands to maximize environmental benefits. He has a particular interest in carbon-negative bioenergy systems, including carbon capture and storage technology, and pyrolysis and gasification systems that co-produce biochar. Gratitude is an everyday thing not just a holiday. In this episode I reflect how a parked named Jim Thorpe challenged me to research him. We must look back and reflect. I am grateful for many that continue to share the rich history of our Native American people. One quote that comes to mind, “I never was content unless I was trying my skill...or testing my endurance.” -Jim Thorpe Let's continue the conversation and be grateful for what we have on a daily. Global Oil Markets
European road fuel market dynamics under a heavy oil complex backwardation

Global Oil Markets

The strong backwardation in diesel and gasoline forward pricing is reflective of a tight fundamental picture for road fuels in Europe as demand steadily rises and refineries grapple with high crude feedstock and running costs as natural gas prices soar, curtailing supply. Amid this market tightness, inventories continue to draw as the opportunity cost of storage rises, reducing supply buffers. At the same time, refiner hedging is exacerbating the strength in calendar time spreads. In this episode of the Oil Markets Podcast, S&P Global Platts Global editors Rowan Staden-Coats and Lucy Brown discuss with Joel Hanley backwardation and what it means for road fuel markets in Europe.
