Cor Blimey, it's another "real time" episode of the podcast as Paul & Eli try to cram a meaty Price of Shite game into 60 mins. Eli is off to America to celebrate his 50th birthday and so Paul has requested an easy edit, so it's time for another uncut, rambling and ranting edition of the economy comedy podcast. Thanks to another PO Box delivery, they have plenty to wade though to score those delicious p'twings! There's some kitchenware, more Chas N Dave music, some games and a hideous piece of houseware destined for the bin! Not only all that but Paul & Eli manage to squeeze in a quick game of 1980s TV trivia too. It's a big, stuffed, typically manic episode of CheapShow that Eli better not ruin with his “podcast killing” behaviour! There are plenty of peculiar tunes to soak up this week on CheapShow. The segment may be called Silverman's Platter, but on this edition of the podcast, Paul's brought along a few interesting records to listen to. A song based on popular TV show “Minder” and styled after Chas N Dave brings Paul and Eli's attention to the work of The Firm, a music group that churned out one of the 1980s biggest novelty pop hits. Apparently, they had a whole album, so the cheap chaps take a quick tour of their output. There is also a strange album to listen to that was designed to help raise fund for children's charity NSPCC in 1984. It's packed with some obvious and not so obvious celebrities from the period, but we focus on Dennis Waterman's rock n roll Lollipop song and Felicity Kendall's moog flavoured ditty about fairies! It's also time to return to the Country Urban Noodle Test Lab International Cuisine Kitchen with a few instant noodles that are new to Eli's palate. Mr Silverman takes on a Lucky Me beef bone marrow treat and whatever the hell a “Milky Me” is! To make things more interesting, Paul and Eli also have got their own deities in small boxes. This isn't going to be a problem at all! This is the nearest faraway place for Patrick Marber and Peter Curran. Here they endeavour to get the heart of things in an entertainingly vague and indirect way. This is not the place for typical male banter. From under the bed clothes they play each other snippets of music and the voices of famous dead people from BBC Archive. Childhood, ruined ambition, work, family and death are their slightly warped conversational currencies. Writers/Performers: PETER CURRAN is a publisher, broadcaster, writer and BBC documentary maker working in South Africa, America, Brazil, Ireland, and the Arctic Circle. He’s written and presented numerous Arts and culture programmes for both radio and television. PATRICK MARBER is a playwright, director and screenwriter. He co-wrote and performed in Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, and The Day Today. His plays include Dealer's Choice, After Miss Julie, Closer, Don Juan in Soho, and The Red Lion.
Efrain and David attempt to get to the bottom of these London Girls, but are entirely too enticed by the promise of free drinks--just the way Chas N Dave would have wanted it. Includes a loving tribute to Chas Hodges, as well as rare clips, a full exploration of the live evolution of the Tori version, and an interview with a real life London Girl (and friend of the show) Priya Sen. Don't muck about!
It's been a big old year for the CheapShow chaps, so they are going to celebrate Christmas in style... with an elaborate, no expense spared, all star Christmas office party... Which goes about as well as you think. Paul is drunk and rude, Eli is sober and angry and no matter how hard they try, they can't keep their "celebrity friends" for interfering. So pour a festive drink, relax and join the party. There's a bit of Chas N Dave, crackers to pull, food and drink to devour, presents to give and a finale which promises to be amazing... but ultimately isn't. At all. Cue fights, rants and tears before bedtime! And if you like us, why not support us: www.patreon.com/cheapshow Share & Enjoy. A special tribute show to one of our favourite lilywhites, a friend, a superb podcast guest and a true gentleman, the late, great Chas Hodges. Many of you will have seen him play or met him at one of #SpursShowLIVE events (he performed at two and attended a couple more), so we know this is just as personal for you, as it is for us. Maybe you grew up blaring out Ossie's Dream from your bedroom, singing Glory Glory on the terraces or had Ain't No Pleasing You as the first dance at your wedding. Chas n' Dave were part of all our Tottenham experience. And still are. On this show we look back with Mike Leigh, Theo Delaney, Jon Morter, Phil Cornwell, Willie Morgan, Paul Kramer, Alex Segal, Matt Creeley and of course the voice and music of Chas Hodges, as one of our own. Enjoy it with us, as we pay tribute to the Rockney Rebel. We'll be working hard to get Ain't No Pleasing You back to No1 where it belongs this week and we need your help. Go to smarturl.it/chasanddave to find out how easy it is to be can part of the team and the Chas n Dave classic back on top! And don't forget to share #AintNoPleasingYou #ChasAndDaveForNo1 - smarturl.it/chasanddave too!
