This week, Lisa sits down with Sandra Silverman, author of From Bullsht to Botox* — a raw, hilarious, and deeply healing memoir about beauty, self-worth, and what happens when we finally stop outsourcing our validation. Sandy has done everything — facelifts, liposuction, lasers, lymphatic sculpting, microcurrent tools, and the full emotional transformation that comes after realizing no procedure can fix a wound that started in childhood. Her story is as real as it gets: she opens up about adoption, trauma, toxic love, divorce, and the slow, powerful process of learning to love yourself from the inside out. We also dive into the practical stuff — from the lymphatic hacks that slim and de-bloat in minutes to skincare products that actually work (spoiler: one costs $17 on Amazon). You'll learn:

"When I moved to New York 10 years ago, and I had my first New York bagel, [I] realized that I'd been eating bagel-shaped bread my entire life."   This ignited his passion to explore New York through the lens of finding the best bagels. When he discovered New York didn't have a bagel festival, Silverman started BagelFest. This was seven years ago. And led to the launch of BagelUp.   "BagelUp is all about celebrating bagels, the culture and the people behind them," says Silverman, nicknamed "the New York bagel ambassador" by Utopia Bagels. BREAKING: D4VD Indictment Expected | Manager Admits "Wanted to Continue Tour" | Celeste Rivas Grand Jury Update

The D4VD case just took a massive turn. Sources confirm the grand jury hearing evidence in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez is an indicting grand jury—not merely investigative. Prosecutor Beth Silverman is reportedly seeking murder charges against the 20-year-old singer whose alleged girlfriend's body was found dismembered in his Tesla. Today we cover the latest breaking developments: D4VD's manager Robert Morgenroth testified for days and was overheard saying Silverman was "very pushy" about why he didn't call police. His response? He didn't feel it was his responsibility—his job was to keep the tour going. A female witness failed to appear and now faces arrest via body attachment order. Private investigator Steve Fischer revealed a chainsaw and burn cage incinerator were found inside D4VD's Hollywood rental, both unused—evidence, Fischer says, of a plan that "got upended." We walk through the timeline Fischer has constructed: Celeste was last confirmed alive January 2, 2025. The Tesla was parked in its final spot July 29—the same day D4VD left for tour. The body wasn't discovered until September 8, the day after what would have been Celeste's 15th birthday. D4VD has not been arrested or charged. He remains legally presumed innocent. But with witnesses being compelled to testify, physical evidence mounting, and prosecutors signaling their intent, this case is heading toward a courtroom. We break down what to expect as grand jury proceedings continue into February 2026. #D4VDCase #CelesteRivas #TrueCrimeToday #GrandJuryIndictment #BreakingNews #HollywoodMurder #CelesteRivasUpdate #D4VDNews #TrueCrimePodcast #JusticeForCeleste Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In his influential Anti-Semite and Jew, French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre observed "If the Jew did not exist, the anti-Semite would invent him." In doing so he articulated the figure of an Antisemite responsible for imagining the Jew in a formulation that has lasted for decades. This figure became an indispensable trope in the period immediately after the war. It enabled Germans and Austrians to navigate a radically changed political and cultural landscape and reestablish lives upended by war by denying complicity in perpetuating antisemitic ideology. The deeply ingrained cultural practices that formed the basis for age-old prejudices against Jews persisted via coded references, taking new forms, and providing fertile ground for explicit eruptions.  Decades before the Nazi persecution of the Jews would emerge as a master moral paradigm of evil in popular culture, the constructed Antisemite became part of a forceful narrative structure that allowed stereotypes about Jews to persist, even as explicit antisemitism became taboo. Lisa Silverman examines the crucial development and implications of the figural Antisemite in a range of trials, films, and texts during the first years after the end of the Second World War. She argues that, in their economically shattered, emotionally exhausted, and culturally impoverished postwar world, Austrians, Germans, and others used the Antisemite as a way to come to terms with their altered circumstances and to shape new national self-understandings.  A readily recognizable and easily adaptable figure of evil, the Antisemite loomed large as a powerful and persistent trope in a wide range of artistic and cultural narratives. As a figure onto which to project or imagine as a source of the hatred of Jews, the Antisemite allowed audiences to avoid facing the implications of crimes committed by the Nazis and their accomplices and to deny the endurance of widespread and often coded antisemitic prejudices. In postwar Europe, where everyone looked to blame others for the murder and dispossession of the Jewish population, the authority to define the Antisemite as a receptacle for explicit Jew-hatred became a powerful force. As The Postwar Antisemite argues, antisemitism as a hidden code gained new force, packing stronger, more effective punches and affording its users more power. This era is critical to understanding ongoing struggles over the authority to set the parameters of antisemitism and the power and persistence of this hatred in society. In this episode, Jay and Jenna sit down for an honest conversation about what culture really is — and why it matters more than ever. They unpack the heart of Culture Matters: not as a buzzword or a corporate initiative, but as the way people think, communicate, and show up in their work, relationships, and leadership. Culture isn't something you hang on a wall, it's something you live every day, whether you're intentional about it or not.Jenna, Jay Doran's wife joins the show and together, they talk about who they are as a team, why alignment matters, and how shared values create clarity in environments that often feel noisy and disconnected. They also discuss why culture must be built from the inside out, how values guide decisions when things get hard, and why leadership begins with self-awareness.This conversation also explores the power of thinking before reacting, creating space for honest dialogue, and building environments where people feel seen, challenged, and supported. At its core, Culture Matters exists to help people think clearly because when people think clearly, they change. If you're a leader, entrepreneur, or someone who cares deeply about building something meaningful in business or in life this episode will challenge you to rethink how culture shows up in everything you do

The investigation into the death of thirteen-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez has reached a critical turning point. A Los Angeles County grand jury is now in its third week of testimony, and the people closest to singer D4VD are beginning to fracture under pressure. Robert Morgenroth, general manager of D4VD's record label and president of his touring company, spent three consecutive days being questioned by Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman. Three days for a non-target witness is extraordinary. According to reports, Morgenroth was overheard in the courthouse hallway telling his attorney that Silverman was aggressive about one question in particular: why did he never contact police after learning a decomposing body had been discovered in his client's Tesla? His reported answer was that he wanted to continue with the tour. Meanwhile, a second witness connected to the case allegedly refused to appear before the grand jury. Prosecutors responded by seeking a body attachment order, authorizing law enforcement to detain her and compel testimony. She is represented by the same attorney as Morgenroth, raising questions about coordination within D4VD's inner circle. Celeste Rivas Hernandez was reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California in April 2024. Her dismembered remains were discovered in the trunk of D4VD's abandoned Tesla in September 2025, one day after what would have been her fifteenth birthday. LAPD has officially identified D4VD as a suspect. Investigators have reportedly identified a second suspect believed to have assisted in disposing of her body. The case has been built using cellphone data, Tesla GPS logs, and social media location tracking. Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins us to break down what these moves signal, why extended testimony often means prosecutors are hunting for inconsistencies, and what legal exposure witnesses face when they withhold critical information. SUMMARY: Guest: Lara Silverman — comedic actress, jazz singer, violinist, author, Stanford Law grad; formerly a federal prosecutor. -Faith roots: Grew up in a large Romanian Christian family (with Syrian Christian heritage); accepted Christ at 7; faith deepened after her aunt's death from cancer. -Calling to law: Loved advocacy and public speaking; passed the bar after intense study; landed her dream role as a federal prosecutor in San Francisco. -Health crisis: Fell acutely ill in week two on the job with a rare, under-researched neurological vertigo disorder; tried ~30–150 therapies and ~38 medications (often worsened symptoms); bedridden for three years on a bedpan; ultimately resigned her post. -Ongoing illness: Continues to experience constant spinning sensations; multiple tentative diagnoses, no definitive cure; learned to walk again despite worsening symptoms when upright. -Spiritual wrestle: Initial confusion turned to seasons of bitterness and anger (more than depression); felt misunderstood by some believers when she sensed God calling her to accept ongoing suffering. -Acceptance and surrender: Believes God spoke that she would not be fully healed on this side of eternity; fasting exposed idols of health, marriage, and career; moved toward surrender and trust. -Meeting Matt: Church acquaintance (youth leader) who reached out during her bedridden years; he had suffered childhood cancer and was later diagnosed with terminal cancer; they formed a deep bond through shared suffering. -Marriage and loss: Married despite her illness and his terminal diagnosis; experienced “joy in grief” through ministry and creativity; Matt died a year later; Lara testifies to God's peace and preparation through the loss. -Joy amid grief: Practiced finding “sprinkles of joy” (comedy clips, music, niece's smile, devotionals); launched The Silverman Show (YouTube: comedy, music, theology); organized jazz fundraisers, including $13K raised for Haiti. -Theology of suffering: *Critiques “prosperity gospel light” in American church; calls for preparing believers to suffer well. *Emphasizes biblical themes: joy in suffering; God's intentional purposes; eternal rewards (e.g., “crown of life”); 2 Corinthians 4:17's “eternal weight of glory.” *Points to Isaiah 61 (double portion/redemption), 1 Peter 1:7 (tested faith), Job-like redemption ultimately fulfilled in eternity. *Cites Helen Roseveare's testimony about trusting God in suffering. -Identity transformation: Early identity tied to achievement and “gold stars”; illness stripped these; learned identity in Christ, not performance; challenged by Matt's loving rebukes about pride and usefulness. -Honest struggles: Jealousy when others receive “basic blessings” (marriage, children, health); wrestled with God's statement “I know what's best for you”; learning to believe God's wisdom without having micro-level reasons. -Church's role: Encourage sound theology of suffering, eternal perspective, and the call to “joy in grief”; avoid equating God's love solely with earthly blessings. -Memoir: Wrote her memoir from bed over eight months, capturing God's “receipts” (journaled answers, provisions, and lessons); aims to comfort sufferers with biblical reasons for suffering and stories of God's nearness. -Hope redefined: Realistic hope is anchored in eternity (John 11:25); freedom from fear of death empowers purposeful living now. -Key scriptures referenced: 2 Corinthians 4:17 (eternal glory) 1 Peter 1:7 (tested genuineness of faith) Isaiah 61 (redemption, double portion) Isaiah 43:19–20 (streams in the wilderness) Romans 8:29 (conformed to Christ) John 11:25 (life beyond death) -Core takeaway: God provides “streams in the desert.” Open your heart to receive and choose joy in the midst of grief; joy and sorrow can coexist, and God will redeem suffering—fully in eternity, and often with foretastes now.   PODCAST INTRO: What happens when the life you planned—brilliant career, healthy body, tidy faith, marriage and children—collides with relentless suffering? For comedian, jazz singer, author, violinist, and Stanford-trained attorney Lara Silverman, that colission became a calling. Lara spent years pursuing her dream of becoming a federal prosecutor—years of academic discipline, devoted goal setting, and passionate pursuit. After graduating from Stanford, she enters the grueling vetting and elimination process of 1000 hopeful lawyers with the goal of making it to the top 3. When she learns that she made it in the top 3 her dream becomes a reality…she is standing at the pinnacle of a major goal in her life. She was accepted as a federal prosecutor and begin the task of fully stepping into that role. Until in her second week on the job, she fell violently ill with what would later be discovered as a rare, unresolved neurological condition that keeps her in a constant state of the world spinning around her. She endures that condition to this day…8 years now, 3 of which left her bedridden, on a bedpan, being cared for and nursed by her parents. Thirty-eight medications failed. Careers, plans, family timelines—all stripped away. In her personal dark valley of multi layered deaths, her testimony is that not only does God meet her there, He has never left her. True to being a trained lawyer, in her effort to make sense of her spinning, crumbling world she uses the Word/Bible to question God's goodness and His fairness demanding that He explain Himself. She's met with firm, steady, unwavering love that consistently engages her pain inviting her from striving to surrender. Through Lara's fasting, God exposed hidden idols—health, marriage, career—not to shame her, but to set her free. Because I think we all know that if we build our lives on things that will fade, change, transition, not to mention the fact that we have no guarantees on anything we risk losing ourselves into despair and ruin. Then came an unlikely gift. As Lara lay in bed, a church acquaintance—Matt Silverman, a brilliant, joy-filled believer battling terminal cancer—began calling to pray and wrestle through theology with her. Friendship became love. They married, held jazz benefit concerts for Haiti, launched a small YouTube channel, and practiced “joy in grief” as a spiritual discipline. Exactly one year later, Matt went home to Jesus. Lara's testimony is not tidy. She speaks frankly about anger, bitterness, jealousy, and the ache of unanswered prayers. Yet she clings to promises many avoid: that suffering refines faith (1 Peter 1), forges intimacy with Christ, prepares us for eternity (2 Corinthians 4), and—even here—can be met with streams in the desert (Isaiah 43). She believes God will redeem every loss, whether in the here and now or in eternity—and that the doctrine of reward, often neglected, gives sturdy hope when the nights are long. Her invitation is simple but not without surrender and therefor difficult: Look for “sprinkles of joy” each day. Refuse to waste your pain—serve others through it. Live now with eternity in view. If you're not afraid to die, you can truly live. Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing. That's Lara's way through the wilderness—and a lifeline for anyone walking it today. In her memoir, Singing Through the Fire, she chronicles all of that's happened, how God shows up, the challenges she's put before Him and vice versa. What does it look like to struggle with God ? Lara provides examples, proof that He doesn't leave even when our faith is weak and ungodly. He holds us up when our faith falters and He sustains us through the most devastating emotional, mental, physical, battles. Let's listen in and find a reason to hope again, to find joy and to be comforted in what can feel like the wilderness. Live Loved and Thrive! The investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez has reached a critical turning point. A Los Angeles County grand jury is now hearing testimony from individuals directly connected to singer D4VD, and the cracks in his inner circle are starting to show. This week, Robert Morgenroth, the general manager of D4VD's record label and president of his touring company, spent three days being grilled by Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman. According to reports, Morgenroth was heard in the courthouse hallway telling his attorney that Silverman was aggressive in questioning why he never contacted police after learning a decomposing body had been discovered in his client's Tesla.  His reported response was that he wanted to continue with the tour. Meanwhile, a second witness connected to the case allegedly refused to appear before the grand jury, prompting the DA to seek a body attachment order to arrest and compel testimony. The witness is represented by the same attorney as Morgenroth, suggesting she may be part of D4VD's inner circle. Celeste Rivas Hernandez was just 13 years old when she was reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California in April 2024.  Her dismembered remains were discovered in the trunk of D4VD's abandoned Tesla in September 2025, one day after what would have been her 15th birthday. LAPD has officially identified D4VD as a suspect, and investigators have reportedly identified a second suspect believed to have assisted in the disposal of her body. Sources say the case has been built using cellphone data, Tesla GPS logs, and social media location tracking. Despite early claims of cooperation, D4VD has reportedly been uncooperative since the start of the investigation and has remained silent on all public platforms. The grand jury proceedings continue. #D4VD #CelesteRivas #TrueCrime #GrandJury #LAPD #CelesteRivasHernandez #JusticeForCeleste #RobertMorgenroth #HollywoodHills #TrueCrimeNews Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Prof. Silverman describes the first Thanksgiving: an accidental feast between frenemies that was never repeated.  How much is our Thanksgiving tradition based on real events that transpired sometime in the fall of 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts? And why does it matter anyway?Don't all nations have feel-good traditions that are partly based on facts, but mostly predicated on myths?  Professor David Silverman answers these questions and more. For example, he shares with us that Europeans had been in contact with the Wampanoag Native Americans, who are the "Indians" of our Thanksgiving tradition, since at least 1524. And that the Pilgrims were guided to Plymouth by at least one crew member who touted its advantage - hint: all its native inhabitants had died of disease, leaving houses and fields empty and available for the would-be English settlers. And while the turkey was certainly on the menu, so was eel!   In this episode, Professor Silvermans explains the aftermath of that first Thanksgiving. And by way of follow-up, I ask him to explain why it is that some Native Americans observe a Day of Mourning on Thanksgiving.  Professor Silverman is the author of This Land is Their Land: The Wampanoag Indians, Plymouth Colony, and the Troubled History of Thanksgiving, a 2019 book.
