Sometimes the worst disruptions lead to the best innovations. When COVID hit, Chas Gessner had built a thriving concierge medical clinic doing in-home hormone optimization across Southern California. Overnight, everything changed. Instead of folding, he pivoted to a completely virtual telemedicine model—and scaled his impact beyond what he ever thought possible. But here's what I love about Chas's story: His business didn't start from ambition. It started from necessity. After 7-8 years in the NFL dealing with head trauma and physical wear-and-tear, Chas was experiencing hormone dysfunction in his late 20s—issues most men don't face until their 40s. Traditional healthcare offered band-aids. He wanted root causes. So he reconnected with a naturopathic doctor from Brown, "popped the hood" on his labs, and discovered a lot was awry. That personal quest became Vitality RX, now helping thousands of men reclaim their energy, focus, and vitality. In Get Yourself Optimized, Chas shares: ✅ Why the "normal" testosterone range is meaningless ✅ The difference between TRT and natural hormone optimization ✅ His complete sleep, supplement, and stress management protocol ✅ How to test and track what actually matters If you've been feeling like you're just "getting older," this episode is required listening. Because what you're experiencing has a name—and a solution.

In today's show, while Luke Cederman snores in the background, Chas and David predict that the next Matt Hoy will come from a wave pool, make predictions about Carissa Moore's return to Tour, a long time listener gets regulated from a La Jolla reef, and another gets emasculated by both Coco Ho and then Billy Kemper, and we all get reminded why opting not to regulate females in the line-up is sexist. I really enjoyed this meaningful conversation with Chas about the power and influence of suffering and the importance of finding your true God-given identity to counter the lies from the world. We talked about the book Living Fearless: Exchanging the Lies of the World for the Liberating Truth of God by Jamie Winship and we would both highly recommend that you either take a listen or grab it and read it. What happens when a group of filmmakers play a ragtag group of filmmakers in a gritty sci-fi horror? "Ignite the fire within and explore unknown territory” - Werner Herzog. This episode is unusual, even by Draft Zero standards. It's an “Actual Play Podcast” where Chas, Stu, & Mel are joined by Kim Ho and Luke Clarke to play MOTHERSHIP, the sci-fi horror game we talked about in episodes DZ-121 and DZ-122. Stu is the GM while everyone else is a ragtag crew of freelance filmmakers. We debrief the experience (so far) at the end of the episode) Mel plays Zara, the glamorous face of the operation. Chas plays Winston, the cynical and egoistical “photojournalist”. Kim is Cal, the scrappy scrounger and sound recordists, while Luke is Tarsos the steadfast producer of the group. The crew are enlisted to record a sensationalist report on a missing corporate president before the mercenary retrieval team arrives. And yeah, this means we're soft-launching yet another project that's called 1d0, which looks at how we can use tools from ttrpgs in screenwriting… and vice versa. ‘It's surprising to think that there was once a time when the runner would keep the minutiae of their jogs and weekly mileage to themselves, but now our social media feeds feature glowing, red faces of a post-run friend, eagerly sharing their complex split stats.' So wrote Chas Newkey-Burden in The Spectator. Ciara asked Chas has running become too performative?

In the first hour of the Chase & Big Joe Show, the guys reacted to Nashville SC's big cup win over Austin FC. Later in the hour, Chas and Big Joe shared their question of the day. What song does Diego Pavia listen to before a game?
How can you apply horror ideas to action and comedy? In this episode Chas, Stu and guest Kim Ho continue their exploration into the power(s) of antagonism and how focusing on them can develop story. While Part 1 looked at the horror film SINNERS, in Part 2 we venture into genres beyond horror with the action-thriller REBEL RIDGE, and the comedy classic MEET THE PARENTS. To both these films we apply the generative story framework TOMBS* (Transgression - Omens - Manifestation - Banishment - Slumber) and are surprised at just how well it maps. *TOMBS comes from the MOTHERSHIP sci-fi horror table-top role-playing game. Which we love. We explore how TOMBS, and thinking about antagonism in general, allows writers to deepen their understanding of their characters, their relationship of the heroes with the antagonists, and generate story fuel in a way that escalates the story. We discuss how thinking of your hero as the horror for your villains helps everything become more dynamic. Oh, and we talk about launching an actual play podcast. Which is happening. Stay tuned! Read transcriptHoly Gallic mayhem, comic crusaders! This week on Play Comics, we're trading our Roman shields for DualShock controllers as we dive headfirst into the digital disaster that is Asterix & Obelix Kick Buttix for PS2 and Xbox – because apparently someone at Étranges Libellules thought the best way to honor René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo's beloved comic masterpiece was to trap our favorite mustachioed warriors in a 3D brawler with combat mechanics more repetitive than Obelix's “These Romans are crazy!” catchphrase. Released in 2003 as Asterix & Obelix XXL in Europe before getting the wonderfully ridiculous “Kick Buttix” rebrand for American audiences, this licensed adventure promised players the chance to experience authentic Gallic village life while punching approximately 70 Romans per level across 40 different stages of cartoon chaos. What it actually delivered was a gaming experience so mindlessly button-mashy that even Caesar would file a complaint with customer service about the repetitive gameplay loop. Joining us for this Roman-bashing bonanza is the incomparable Chas! Pangburn – a man who when he's not busy lettering the actual Asterix comics from the depths of his creative dungeon, brings his insider knowledge of what makes these characters tick both on the page and in polygonal form. His expertise in both the source material and the art of comic creation makes him the perfect guide through this particular journey from panel to PlayStation. So grab your magic potion and prepare for an episode that's more entertaining than actually grinding through the same three enemy types for hours on end – which, let's face it, isn't exactly setting the bar at Vercingétorix levels. Will this portable Gallic adventure redeem itself through sheer nostalgic charm and cartoon physics, or will it crash harder than a Roman chariot race gone wrong? Tune in to discover if this comic adaptation belongs in the Hall of Fame… or should be buried deeper than one of those references that you'll only catch if you read this in French! Learn such things as: Can a video game really handle the comedic timing that makes Asterix comics so brilliant? How do you translate cartoon physics into actual game mechanics without breaking the universe? Do magic potions even come with flavor options? And so much more!
