Inside No. 9 is a British black comedy anthology series that aired from February 5, 2014, to June 12, 2024. Written by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith and produced by the BBC. The only recurring elements are a setting related to the number 9 and a hidden brass hare statue. The show blends comedy, horror, and plot twists. The episode we watched, "The Devil of Christmas," is a Christmas special and the first episode of the third series, aired on December 27, 2016. Directed by Graeme Harper and written by Pemberton and Shearsmith, it took heavy inspiration from 1970s anthology programs such as Beasts (see episode 27 and 44 a and b), and Tales of the Unexpected (listen to episode 29 for more details), filmed at Studio D in the BBC Elstree Centre with rented 1970s costumes and props, the production used retrofitted 1970s cameras and lighting. This approach differed from the usual single-camera setup of the series. Producer Adam Tandy noted the blend of heritage and modern technology, while Shearsmith remarked "it looks shit, but it's brilliant". Graeme Harper, the episode's director, is well-known for his work on Doctor Who, being the only person to direct both the original and revived series. Harper's direction was widely acclaimed, with Peter Davison praising him as the best director he worked with on Doctor Who. The episode featured Rula Lenska, born Roza Maria Leopoldyna Lubienski, who has appeared in Special Branch, Minder, Boon, The Detectives, Footballers' Wives, To the Manor Born, One Foot in the Grave, Casualty, Space: 1999, Return of the Saint, Robin of Sherwood, Doctors, and EastEnders, where she played Frank Butcher's girlfriend, Krystle, in a 2002 Costa del Sol special. In the 1970s, she was shortlisted for the role of companion Jo Grant in Doctor Who and later appeared in Resurrection of the Daleks. She starred as Mrs. Peacock in series 2 of Cluedo and appeared with John Inman in the series Take a Letter, Mr. Jones. In 2009, Lenska joined the cast of Coronation Street as Claudia Colby, an old friend of Audrey Roberts. She left in May 2011 to join the Calendar Girls tour. Lenska was married to actors Brian Deacon and Dennis Waterman, with both marriages ending in divorce. She appeared in commercials for Alberto VO5 in the US during the late 1970s, becoming a running joke on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show. Her work with the London Gay Men's Chorus led to her participation in the UK version of Celebrity Big Brother in 2006, where she made headlines for a role-play task with George Galloway. Since today's topic was a last-minute change to our schedule, we didn't have much time to research Steve and Reece thoroughly. I'm sorry we don't have more to share about them, but they seem like really nice guys. Both, along with the other two members of the League of Gentlemen, consistently create content that we pretty much universally like, if not love. (Ross is speaking for himself here, but I think Jon and James would agree.) This episode also features the voice of Sir Derek Jacobi, Professor Yana himself!!!!. Due to time constraints, our research for this episode was limited. We'll need to cover another project featuring Derek so we can properly explore the life and work of this wonderful actor. If you have any suggestions, please tweet us @GeneralWitch1. In May 2024, it was announced that Pemberton and Shearsmith had adapted the series into a West End stage play, Inside No. 9 Stage/Fright. They will perform in the production, premiering in January 2025 at Wyndham's Theatre, London. (Ross and his wife have tickets to go in April!) There are plenty of peculiar tunes to soak up this week on CheapShow. The segment may be called Silverman's Platter, but on this edition of the podcast, Paul's brought along a few interesting records to listen to. A song based on popular TV show “Minder” and styled after Chas N Dave brings Paul and Eli's attention to the work of The Firm, a music group that churned out one of the 1980s biggest novelty pop hits. Apparently, they had a whole album, so the cheap chaps take a quick tour of their output. There is also a strange album to listen to that was designed to help raise fund for children's charity NSPCC in 1984. It's packed with some obvious and not so obvious celebrities from the period, but we focus on Dennis Waterman's rock n roll Lollipop song and Felicity Kendall's moog flavoured ditty about fairies! It's also time to return to the Country Urban Noodle Test Lab International Cuisine Kitchen with a few instant noodles that are new to Eli's palate. Mr Silverman takes on a Lucky Me beef bone marrow treat and whatever the hell a “Milky Me” is! To make things more interesting, Paul and Eli also have got their own deities in small boxes. This isn't going to be a problem at all! Although disparaged by some critics, the film does restore a few elements of Bram Stoker's original character: the Count is introduced as an "icily charming host;" he has command over nature; and he is seen scaling the walls of his castle. It also gives Lee more to do and say than any other Hammer Dracula film except his first, 1958's Dracula.

First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on July 31st 2022 Our returning co-presenter this week is once again the ever popular WARREN CUMMINGS, joining me for another meander around the highways and byways of whatever and wherever our conversations prompted by the topic of television may take us, whether it's up to the minute stories from the news, or fond memories of television shows made before either of us were various twinkles in a meaningful look or three. This week our journey starts with fond memories of the work of two actors who in recent months have both passed on from this world, DENNIS WATERMAN and PETER BOWLES, and our conversation takes a slightly dark turn as we consider the effect that high profile celebrity deaths have upon those of us who appreciate and remember their work despite most of us often never having ever actually met them. Then, via a brief look at TURTLE'S PROGRESS, we take some time to consider the filming locations used for television programmes we have enjoyed through the years, which takes us, perhaps not too surprisingly, to a layby in Gerrard's Cross. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. W/C 11th July 2022 After 3 years of Johnson trying to put a bomb under anything he didn't like the look of (the judiciary, parliament, the constitution, basic human rights, etc, etc) it is quite amusing to see the Tory party content to turn the artillery inwards. And of course, you can rely on a bunch of long haired footie fans from Sheffield to have the perfect musical refrain. I met Joe Elliott (briefly in 1986). He was back in Sheffield to play in a football testimonial for Blades legend Tony Currie, and he was stood a few rows in front as the Housemartins provided the pre-match entertainment. He very kindly signed my program and smiled whilst I said something gushing and inane about the Hysteria album. He then donned his footie kit on to be part of a team that included George Best, Paul Heaton, Dennis Waterman and Ian Botham. It started out as a mechanism for me to clear my head, with the hope that by saying stuff out loud it would act as a little bit of self-help. Legendary TV actor Dennis Waterman has died at the age of 74, his family has confirmed. Waterman was one of the most popular television actors of the 1970s in 80s, starring the The Sweeney, Minder and Life and Loves of a She-Devil. In more recent years, he starred in BBC's New Tricks alongside veteran actors Amanda Redman, James Bolam and Alun Armstrong. In a statement, his family said he died today with his wife Pam at his side. A 'mass trespass' through a restricted estate used for pheasant shooting in South Devon today has kicked off a nationwide series of protests for a greater right to roam. Right to Roam, a campaign group that wants to see more private land made accessible to walkers, has picnicked and paraded through the Duke of Somerset's South Hams estate today in what marks the beginning of a month-long nationwide campaign. With her hair tied into a bun, the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy walked across the courtroom and passed within inches of her rival Coleen, who glanced in her direction for the first time all day. She then took to the stand and swore on the bible before being quizzed by Coleen's barrister David Sherborne. The WAGs have been at war since October 2019 after Coleen accused her fellow footballer's wife of leaking 'false stories' about her private life, before claiming she had uncovered the culprit after carrying out a social media 'sting operation'.

What can we say? We made it to 10! Double digits .... as any good gynaecologist will recommend! In this episode we have two special letters from two special people who are in need of our help. Colin Clarke: A Socially awkward but talented social poet and Darius from Stoke who can only speak in rhymes. Both of them embody all of us in their insular attitude in public spaces. We do our best to help them and the surprises can only be described as elementary. To deviate from the idle chatter we have experimented with the model of amateur djing to mix up the whole podcast environment. It's..... interesting. Onto the show notes contained in this episode Chris Tarrant did indeed live in his car for a number of years. To be consistent with our podcast we say car but in actual fact it was a van. read it here-->>https://www.driving.co.uk/news/interview/mamm/motor-chris-tarrant-reels-cars-small-carry-fishing-gear/ We also reference a TV Series called Minder (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minder_(TV_series)) starring Dennis Waterman. For any non UK listeners this was must see tv in the 70's and 80's as everything else was rubbish... apart from Only Fools and Horses which we also use the theme tune for with pride https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_Fools_and_Horses . In fact the theme tune could be used for Donald Trump's campaign seeing as no decent artist wants their music tied with him. Finally you can email us if you have a niche issue that you need us to help you with here: JTT[at]fuzzydice.co.uk Lastly and this has nothing to do with the podcast at all but we love that a micro pugilist Filipino actor became a huge action star called Weng Weng https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weng_Weng Put his name in YouTube and sit back and enjoy the mayhem and lack of political correctness

Who should cover a Bond song? We draft in new artists to perform cues for an imaginary 'Shaken And Stirred' album for the 2010s. With only our regular panelists' suspect musical taste and Q The Music's Warren Ringham to guide us, we make the case for some of our favourite performers to have a crack at a Bond song. Along the way Ben and David snipe each others' picks, and we stumble on Burt Bacharach's suspect vocal stylings, Sam Smith's falsetto, title songs as marketing, Dennis Waterman and his theme tune complex, creepy Goldfinger, Ringo's lost Bond theme, getting music recommendations from a computer, a musical theatre dark past, Queen's stealth hits, live podcast research, Wolverine on vocals, and the YouTube cover artist market. The recording took place on August 16th, 2019 in the UK, USA and Spain. Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to. Joining Tim for a special Christmas edition is writer Stephen O'Brien, who's here to talk about little-heard eighties Christmas Singles including Hokey Cokey by The Snowmen, Jingle Bells Laughing All The Way by The Hysterics, What Are We Gonna Get 'Er Indoors by Dennis Waterman and George Cole, Oh Blimey It's Christmas by Frank Sidebottom, Christmas In Hollis by Run DMC, Old Fashioned Christmas by Anne Charleston And Ian Smith, and Do They Know It's Christmas, by Band Aid II?, not to mention Bing Crosby and David Bowie's stilted natter, Boris Gardiner's mercifully forgotten third single, and the thorny question of whether Keeping The Dream Alive by Freiheit is a Christmas Single or a load of old twaddle. Along the way we'll be hearing the World's Worst Jane Leeves Impression, revealing who wrote and sang the theme tune for The Quatermass Experiment, avoiding giving the actual official worst Christmas Present possible in the entirety of history, and finding out how to get accidentally mistaken for an extra in Neighbours. The latest edition of the podcast which asks: what is the least Mod Dungeons & Dragons character? This episode, Pop-Crazed Youngsters, has been cursed by the tang of man-flu and dodgy microphones, meaning it’s not at the usual hi-fidelity standard you’ve come to expect from Chart Music. But what an incident-packed go-around on the morbid carousel of Pop it is! There’s wave after wave of guest appearances from people who really shouldn’t have bothered, such as Cliff, his specky henchman Hank Marvin, and none other than co-host KEGGY KEEGLE HIMSELF facing down DLT in a perm-off. Thanks to Simon getting an unexpected birthday present, we have possession of a full shooting script of an episode from The Popses’ post-strike regeneration, and we try to break the codes therein. Musicwise, the Mod revival rides itself right off the cliff, Kelly Marie and Sheena Easton put on their best Bingo Jumpsuits, Cliff does his Danger Dancing routine next to a keyboard player in Alan Partridge shorts, Randy Crawford’s heartbreakingly brilliant performance is ruined by a vision mixer who makes her look like the alien off Alien, and Nicholas Lyndhurst, Martin Shaw and Dennis Waterman rule over the charts. Al Needham is joined by Simon Price and David Stubbs for a good hard leer at the autumn of 1980, veering off – as always – on tangents such as trying to be a 12 year-old Ace Face when everyone’s seen your Dad drag you out of a boating lake at Skegness Butlins, why adding the Poo-Poo drum machine over Joy Division records in clubs will never get old, having a good laugh at younger brothers who get beaten up in town for wearing the wrong badges, pathological hatred of Plastic Mods, and flares. And swearing, swearing, all the time swearing. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
