Episode 150I rip open the festering wound that is England's footballing history. If you're an England fan, you're well-acquainted with the gut-wrenching cycle of hope, hype, and inevitable heartbreak. This show is for you, the masochists who get up at 4 AM to watch yet another uninspiring performance, only to ask yourself, "Why do I do this to myself?"The Nightmare Begins: Mexico '86Let's start with Mexico '86. Diego Maradona and his "Hand of God." Are you kidding me? That wasn't just a handball; it was a slap in the face to every England fan who dared to dream. We had Lineker, we had hopes, and then we had a middle finger from the football gods. It's like being promised a brand-new Ferrari and getting a rusted-out Fiat instead. And we took it. We took it like chumps, crying into our pints, and still saying, "Next time, we'll get them."Italia '90: Gazza's Tears and Our Collective BreakdownFast forward to Italia '90. We thought we had it. Gazza was on fire, and the nation was united in its optimism. Cue the waterworks. Gazza's tears became our tears. Penalties against Germany? Why not just march us to the guillotine and be done with it? Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle's misses are seared into our brains like traumatic childhood memories. Yet, we wore those scars with pride, saying, "It's coming home," even though deep down, we knew it probably wasn't.Euro '96: Football's Coming Home... to DisappointmentEuro '96. Ah, the home soil advantage. The sweet promise of redemption. "Football's coming home," we sang. And for a moment, it felt like it might. Until it didn't. Gareth Southgate—now our managerial savior—missed that crucial penalty. The air was sucked out of Wembley, and with it, our dreams. We had been the life of the party, only to be shown the door at the stroke of midnight. The 21st Century: A New Millennium, Same Old DisappointmentThe 2000s brought no respite. World Cup 2002 saw us dumped out by a Ronaldinho lob that seemed more like a cosmic joke than a legitimate goal. Euro 2004? Rooney's metatarsal shattered our hopes. World Cup 2006? Portugal again, and this time, Rooney's red card added insult to injury. It's as if the football gods delight in our suffering, throwing obstacles our way just to watch us squirm.Recent Years: Rinse and RepeatAnd now, we arrive at the latest chapter in our saga of sorrow: Denmark, 2024. We started strong, but like clockwork, the wheels fell off. Another tournament, another unfulfilled promise. It's like Groundhog Day, but with more swearing and fewer laughs. The hope that kills you has become our unofficial motto. We've mastered the art of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Why We Keep Coming BackSo why do we do it? Why do we put ourselves through this relentless cycle of pain? Because we're England fans. We're addicted to the agony, the fleeting moments of joy, and the eternal hope that one day, just maybe, it'll be our turn. We're the Charlie Browns of the football world, always believing Lucy won't pull the football away this time. So, grab your beverage of choice—tea, beer, or something stronger—and join me as we navigate the rollercoaster of emotions that is being an England fan. Because if there's one thing we know how to do well, it's to keep believing, no matter how many times we get kicked in the teeth.Music: Kasabian : UnderdogBlack Pumas : Old ManSupport the Show.Insta@justpassingthroughpodcastContact:justpassingthroughpodcast@gmail.comArtwork @digitalnomadicart on Insta

Spray anyone? 2023 sees Spray ring in the new year by bringing their Songs Already Sung project – a collection of carefully curated cover songs – to streaming services. Spray is comprised of Ricardo Autobahn (synthesizers) and Jenny McLaren (vocals, guitars), both formerly (and once again) of the Cuban Boys, who took their chaotic technopunk to number 1 on the Festive 50 (twice), recorded one of the best Peel Sessions ever and went head-to-head with Sir Cliff Richard in a Christmas Chart Battle. For the duo, Songs Already Sung was something of a experiment and a departure from their standard way of working. Says Ricardo in his own inimitable style, “Songs Already Sung was an ongoing project throughout 2022, which built into a whole album month by month of popular beat group Spray performing some great hits of yesteryear.” Though there's only 12 months in the year, in a very Spray move Songs Already Sung actually comprises 14 tracks. That number is a tribute to both the band's expansive musical taste, unique approach to the project, and the sheer number of fantastic fan-generated ideas the band received after a callout on social media. As Ricardo stated at the commencement of what was then called the Untitled Covers Project, “We have a number of cover versions to keep our live set interesting, but as for our albums, they've been strictly originals only. So, we felt it might be fun, and also a good way of keeping ourselves proactive, to record a covers album, recording and releasing the songs one a month. This allows for an element of interactivity, fan suggestions, and also the possibility we'll end up with more songs than we expected. Or possibly less.” He added, “These won't be necessarily what you'd expect from us either. The idea of Spray cover versions is to take something as far away from our oeuvre as we can find and then drag it kicking and screaming into the Spray Universe.” The fourteen tracks on Song Already Sung include classics from The (Detroit) Spinners, Living Color, KISS, Nine Inch Nails, and Tori Amos. Also featured and given the Spray treatment are songs by Roger Whittaker – a rare vocal outing from Ricardo – Hazel O'Connor, Faith No More, Chas and Dave, Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle, The Connells, Lil Nas X, and Blink 182. Last but not least, fans of 70s British educational TV will be intrigued by the inclusion of Paddy Kingsland's The Boy from Space, given a suitable cosmic-sounding and rather cheeky Spray makeover. The collection of tracks on Song Already Sung is sure to bring a smile to your face, and maybe the odd tear of joy to an eye or two. Music Available on AnalogueTrash

Mark Chapman is here with a BUMPER episode of the pod which is dedicated to Saturday's action in the third round of the FA Cup. And the day certainly didn't disappoint as there were shocks, late goals and upsets up and down the country. John Murray and Chris Waddle were at Hillsborough as they watched League One Sheffield Wednesday knock out Newcastle with a 2-1 victory. A rather disappointed Eddie Howe makes an appearance as does a much happier manager, Darren Moore. There were goals galore at Anfield as Liverpool had a close call against Wolves – but they will now have to settle for a replay after that match finished two all. Jurgen Klopp and Julen Lopetegui both pop on the pod to give their take on the game as does Michael Brown and Conor McNamara who were watching all the action unfold. Championship sides Blackpool and Burnley knocked out Premier League teams, while Wrexham – who are in the National League caused a major upset as they beat Championship side Coventry – so a rather jubilant Phil Parkinson joins Sports Report after that amazing result for the Welsh side. Meanwhile, non-league Chesterfield were so, so close to getting a win over West Brom but were held to a late draw – so Chappers gets all the reaction from that match. Elsewhere World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister comes on the show after helping Brighton get a win over Middlesbrough. The big names don't stop there as Chappers hears from Harry Kane, Vincent Kompany and many more, so you don't want to miss out on this episode!!

We are live at the Amex as Arsenal end the month seven points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table after beating Brighton 4-2 - in what was a thrilling game on Saturday night. A delighted Mikel Arteta joins the pod to give his reaction after results went his way. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City drew one all with Everton – John Stones and Frank Lampard give their reactions and we hear from Marcus Rashford, after he was dropped from the starting XI for Manchester United for 'internal disciplinary' reasons. In the end he came on to score the winner in the second half against Wolves, and he let's us in on the reason as to why he was on the bench and Erik ten Hag gives his analysis too. Ian Dennis and Chris Waddle were at St James' Park as Leeds held Newcastle to a goalless draw – Eddie Howe and Jesse Marsch pop on the pod post match and not only that, Southampton's James Ward-Prowse makes a Football Daily appearance after he scored at both ends of the pitch after his side experienced their fifth Premier League defeat in a row after losing to Fulham.
