We go from “this isn't exciting” to “actually… missiles from both sides” after a very telling Liverpool fan verdict, then get into leadership, game-state management, Udogie's injury record, and whether this window is giving Saha and Nelson vibes. The "relentless engine" is back in the Premier League! In this episode, we analyze Tottenham Hotspur's £34 million mid-season swoop for Conor Gallagher. Following a successful stint at Atlético Madrid—including that unforgettable strike against Real Madrid—Gallagher returns to London to revitalize a Spurs midfield hampered by injuries. We discuss how his elite pressing and box-to-box energy will fill the void left by Rodrigo Bentancur and whether his leadership, honed as a former Chelsea captain, can push Tottenham back into the Champions League spots. It's a homecoming story with massive tactical implications for North London. Tottenham Hotspur, Conor Gallagher, Premier League Transfer News, Atlético Madrid, Football Midfielders.

Hey... so.... going rouge again... its a new episode blah blah.. talk Tottenham and stuff but is it just me who finds our manager this annoying? I know I have said it from the start I did not like him but when I was saying that I had hoped I would warm to him or he would have some redeemable features or personality and yet with every passing suck fest of a game I watch and every time he opens his mouth I hate the man more and more. I have disliked managers in the past but this level of hate I normally only have reserved for Judas... ANYWAY .. on the show we discuss how happy Stephan was that West Ham beat us... how happy and confused I felt by our performance against Dortmund and how our owners are still the same profits over glory thunder c**ts they have always been. ENJOY!
Man Utd sýndu gamla góða takta í 2-0 sigri á Man City á Old Trafford. Arsenal breikkaði bilið á toppnum í 7 stig þrátt fyrir 0-0 jafntefli gegn Notthingham Forest í Skýriskógi. Liverpool missteig sig gegn nýliðum Burnley 1-1 á Anfield. Það gengur ekkert upp hjá Tottenham í deildinni. Sunderland halda áfram að vera í Evrópubaráttu. Aston Villa tapaði heimaleik eftir svakalega sigurgöngu.

Then, it's off to Manchester where the boys break down a dominant showing from Manchester United in Michael Carrick's debut. We'll talk about what we liked from United in this 2-0 win over City and whether or not we think it's sustainable. And finally, following their latest home defeat to West Ham, we'll take a look at Tottenham and ask the question "can it get worse?" in our our newest segment titled "It Can."For even more Caught Offside content, get on over to Caught Offside Plus right now! On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Burnley fan Jack Toner and Tottenham Hotspur fan Ricky Saunders ahead of Saturday's important GW23 meeting at Turf Moor. For Tottenham however, a visit from Borussia Dortmund comes first and to the amazement of many Tottenham fans Thomas Frank remains in charge. Has he got to go? It looks an uphill task for Burnley to stay up, but they have drawn four of last six including against Manchester United and Liverpool in the last two. But have they themselves too much to do? And if so, how can they break this yo-yo cycle of promotion followed by relegation? There's a start or bench dilemma for Martin Dubravka owners this week, Clarets enablers are covered and there's coverage of Tottenham assets too. Burnley are 13 without a win, but Bournemouth were 11, and West Ham 10, ahead of playing Dr Tottenham...

Episode 162 — Advantage Arsenal: Narrow First Leg Win After a Dominant Performance at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup Semi-FinalThe boys are back as Gav, Ells and special guest JJ react to Arsenal's first-leg victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup semi-final — a night that delivered control, chances, and a narrow advantage that perhaps didn't reflect the balance of play. The discussion begins with Arsenal's approach to the tie, including selection choices, goalkeeper debate, and how the team set the tone early. With Arsenal dominating large stretches of the first half, the panel explore why a strong performance failed to translate into a more commanding scoreline, touching on chance creation, shot selection, and decision-making in key moments. There's detailed analysis of Arsenal's midfield structure and evolving roles, including how balance, chemistry, and positioning continue to develop as personnel return from injury. The conversation also examines set-piece execution, attacking movement, and what different striker profiles bring to Arsenal's play — particularly in moments where control needs to become separation.Defensively, the episode breaks down the goals conceded, game management in knockout football, and how small errors can shift momentum even during dominant spells. Goalkeeper involvement, box control, and recovery actions are all discussed as Arsenal once again navigate fine margins in a semi-final setting. In the second half, focus turns forward. The panel preview Arsenal's upcoming trip to Nottingham Forest, discussing defensive availability, workload management, and how Arsenal should approach a fixture shaped as much by desperation as quality. There's also discussion around key Premier League matches elsewhere, including the Manchester derby and Tottenham vs West Ham, and what those results could mean in the wider title picture. The episode closes with the Who Am I? game, featuring a former Arsenal forward whose career took him across Europe — and prompts a few nostalgic reflections along the way.A first-leg advantage secured, questions still to answer, and a season entering a defining stretch.Chapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables Intro(00:50) - Chelsea Semi-Final Context & Selection Decisions(02:35) - Goalkeeper Debate: Structure, Crosses & Build-Up Play(04:20) - Fast Start & Early Pressure at Stamford Bridge(05:06) - 0-1 | Set-Piece Breakthrough and Corner Execution(07:12) - Missed Chances & Shot Selection Frustrations(11:41) - Midfield Balance, Roles & Chemistry Questions(16:49) - First-Half Control Without Separation(18:12) - 0-2 | Gyökeres Finish and Box Presence(21:11) - Attacking Relationships & Service to the Striker(23:15) - 1-2 | Momentum Shift & Defensive Breakdown(26:13) - Garnacho's Face / Most Disliked Players(27:40) - 1-3 | Zubimendi's Goal and Game Control(29:16) - Refereeing, Game Management & Discipline(31:04) - Missed Chances to Kill the Tie(31:44) - 2-3 | Late Goal Conceded & Narrow First-Leg Margin(33:55) - Full-Time Reflection, Stats & First-Leg Takeaways(37:22) - PT.2 Who Am I? Note: In classic Tottenham fashion, they've announced two new staff hires immediately after we stopped recording. Jack is joined by the Athletic's James Maw to discuss the signing of Conor Gallagher. While some fans remain unconvinced, we discuss the definite positives he brings to the midfield and why he might be exactly what this side needs. Conversation moves to the ownership's wider strategy. Does the decision to shift Brennan Johnson, combined with paying the necessary fee to land Gallagher, signal a genuine change in how the club conducts itself? We also acknowledge the departure of Fabio Paratici and discuss Aston Villa's strange desperation to carve out a rivalry with Tottenham. James then answers your listener questions, including whether he would take Xabi Alonso as manager, and if a return for Mauricio Pochettino would actually be good for the club. This one had everything a cup tie should.Noise, needle, moments of quality, moments of chaos, and a sense that one team understood the occasion far better than the other. Aston Villa went to Tottenham, took the FA Cup seriously, and left having knocked Spurs out for the second season running. This post-mortem doesn't run chronologically. It picks out the moments that defined the day. Villa's control in the first half. Two exquisite goals that reflected preparation and confidence. Spurs' brief second-half push. And the way Villa weathered it without ever losing their grip. There's discussion of Buendía's influence, Rogers' physicality, Tielemans' intelligence in tight spaces, and why this game suited Villa's evolving style perfectly. There's also a wider conversation about mentality. About why some Villa sides of the past have treated the FA Cup as a burden, and why this one clearly doesn't.From the scenes in the away end to the handbags at full-time, this felt like a team enjoying competition rather than managing it. Villa didn't just progress. They owned the occasion.A proper cup tie. Properly won.Get a Great NordVPN DealGet a cracking deal on NordVPN with four months FREE & a 30 days money-back guarantee here: nordvpn.com/momsGET AD-FREE SHOWS and JOIN MATCH CLUBGet ad-free shows and extra shows, and join My Old Man Said's 24/7 Villa community, Match Club. For more details and to become a member, click here: Become a MOMS MemberJoin the show's listener facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid Chris Budd - @BUDD_musicPhillip Shaw - @prsgameMusic production & creation - David MichaelMy Old Man Said - https://www.myoldmansaid.comThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said.
