A long overdue conversation with my buddy, A.J. Fullerton. We met several years ago at a Colorado Blues Society function at the Buffalo Rose in Golden, CO. He wasn't yet old enough to hold a beer and I barely was (and likely taking full advantage of the opportunity). I don't recall thinking I'd see him around much, but we kept bumping into each other around town and at various shows/gigs. Since we met, he's been touring nonstop. Everything from breweries, to restaurants, to house concerts, to big national openers and private parties. He's the kind of musician that doesn't mind the road and seemingly enjoys all of its excitement and mystique. His most recent record, Fullerton & Friel came out earlier this year, but the touring part has been put on hold due to the worlds current circumstance. At the end of the episode, we get to hear a new, unreleased track from A.J. entitled, "Healing Takes Time." The Movers & Shakers are a high energy rock & soul band out of Denver, CO. They've been making noise (not just literally) both in the local scene, as well as on the national stage. They've won the right to represent the Colorado Blues Society in the International Blues Competition in Memphis, TN the last two years. During their most recent visit in January of this year, they made it all the way to the semi-finals. They also recorded an album at the famed Sun Studios in Memphis last year. I've had the opportunity to play on several bills with the Movers & Shakers and am proud to know them as musicians and friends. Though the band currently has a lot of momentum built up, they have also recently encountered an unthinkable tragedy. At the end of January (shortly after returning from the International Blues Competition in Memphis) the body of the bands trumpeter, Scott Sessions, 53, was found west of Ft. Collins, CO. Kevin Dean Eastman, 48, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first degree murder and two counts of tampering with a deceased human body. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 30. In this episode, I chat with three key members of the Movers & Shakers (drummer Kyle Borthick, guitarist Ryan Borthink and lead-singer Andy Webber). We talk about the IBC, the magical father son duo that makes up the bands guitarist and drummer, the musical upbringing of each of these musicians, the formation of the band, and the recent loss of their trumpeter, Scott Sessions.
