You win or you learn.
Could discreet pumps, constantly providing adjustable doses of your top Parky drugs, be the future of 24-hour care? That's one of the suggestions made by advocates of a new range of pumps, one of whom, Professor Ray Chaudhuri (aka the Judge's neurologist), joins the Movers and Shakers in the Notting Hill pub. And if that's not a sufficiently bumper discussion, Prof Chaudhuri also discusses a new project that's he's developing: a Parkinson's dashboard to help make sure that new patients are asked all the right questions in the weeks after a diagnosis.Presented by Rory Cellan-Jones, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Mark Mardell, Paul Mayhew-Archer, Sir Nicholas Mostyn and Jeremy Paxman.Produced and edited by Nick Hilton for Podot.Sound mixing by Ewan Cameron.Music by Alex Stobbs.Artwork by Till Lukat.PR by Sally Jones. Tomorrow, MPs will vote on a Bill that, if passed, would allow terminally ill people with less than six months to live the right to take their own lives - a radical departure from the status quo. The debate has split parliament and the public. So, is it a kindness or the beginning of a dangerous and slippery slope? If you or someone you know has been affected by suicide, support and advice can be found with the Samaritans or SANE. Chris Temple, Editor and Publisher of the National Investor, joins us to for a longer-format nuanced discussion on the US equity markets, US dollar, gold, and the real health of the economy, after this week's Republican party sweep in the elections, and after the Fed has just cut rates again in November as anticipated. We get into many different areas of the economy, potential paths forward, and hard decisions and proposed solutions that will need to be considered as we roll into 2025. We start off discussing the Trump trade rally we saw in US equities, and curiously the US dollar post election results and Fed rate cuts, but yet a selloff in gold and the precious metals sector as the uncertainty of the election results and outlook on geopolitical tensions have now eased some. Chris gets into a number of initiatives that the new Trump administration will need to consider to navigate the challenging setup with stickier inflation and even stagflation expected if tariffs are implemented, how tax cuts must be balanced with real, but dubious, budget cuts, and reflecting back on different points in history looking for analogs to this kind of macro backdrop we are facing moving forward. Chris lays out potential pitfalls and potential solutions that are on the table, if this administration has the will to enact them, and unpacks a potential infrastructure fund proposed that would bypass the Federal Reserve, and dependency on greater and greater central banking debt. Click here to follow along with Chris at the National Investor website.

Demand for low-carbon aluminium has grown in recent years, and Argus has launched a new assessment for a low-carbon upcharge in Europe to track this still-nascent market. But significant challenges remain for the market to generate sustained liquidity and it may require the introduction of more regulation before it can evolve further. Ronan Murphy, Editor of Argus Non-Ferrous Markets, spoke to Argus' Associate Editor and senior aluminium expert Jethro Wookey to explore where the low-carbon aluminium market is now, where it may go, and how primary aluminium producers are also seeking to increase sustainability of their product through increased use of scrap metal. Key topics covered in the podcast: Growth in demand for low-carbon aluminium and the barriers in place to more rapid uptake Wil the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) drive greater liquidity in the European low-carbon aluminium market from 2026? Is the market increasing scrap consumption and can processing capacity keep up with demand?

When Paul titled his episode "Help! (me please, I beg you, because I've been a bloody pillock)" we knew he'd bring his typical humour and candour to the trickiest of subjects. This week, the Movers & Shakers (minus Rory and Jeremy) are talking about care, and the assistance that can be offered both by loved ones and the state. If you haven't thought about how to arrange and finance care – whether that's domiciliary or residential – then this episode will guide you through the opportunities and pitfalls (and offers The Judge a chance to pick through the benefits system once again).Presented by Rory Cellan-Jones, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Mark Mardell, Paul Mayhew-Archer, Sir Nicholas Mostyn and Jeremy Paxman.Produced and edited by Nick Hilton for Podot.Sound mixing by Ewan Cameron.Music by Alex Stobbs.Artwork by Till Lukat.PR by Sally Jones. Assisted dying is currently on the agenda in the UK, as a private member's bill enters Parliament. But with legislation comes a moral debate: should the state be involved in easing the passing of the sick? And, if so, what should the conditions be? What guardrails can be put in place to ensure that what ought to be about mercy doesn't become the subject of abuse? To discuss this difficult topic and the impact that the contemporary political push could have on the Parky community, the Movers & Shakers are joined in the pub by Lord Falconer, whose bill in the House of Lords has set out many of the expected parameters of this new attempt to change the law. Brothers Jae and Trey Richards are Canadian comedians who got their start making YouTube sketches about their lives. They even managed to catch Drake's eye, which led to a few collaborations with the Toronto rapper. But when Jae and Trey were younger, before they found success, they had to spend a lot of time helping their dad as office movers at his company. That experience inspired the idea for their new Crave series, “The Office Movers.” Jae and Trey sit down with Tom to talk about the show, their early days as content creators, and how they only achieved massive success after they stopped trying to reach everyone.
