“When winning becomes too important, it blurs concern for the way our actions affect others; it necessarily sets up someone on the opposing side who must “lose.” The win/??lose mentality prominent in our society is a symptom of a much larger problem—a spiritual problem, in fact.” - Dr. Margaret Placentra Johnston After practicing Optometry for over three decades - helping people to see better in the physical world - Dr. Margaret Placentra Johnston now offers clearer vision of a different sort - a broader perspective about religion and spirituality than what the conventional world typically recognizes. Special guest Margaret Placentra Johnston, OD, author of the award winning book, Faith Beyond Belief: Stories of Good People Who Left Their Church Behind, will be sharing her well-educated perspectives and discussing her book LIVE today on a Fine Time for Healing. Dr. Johnston's "Spiritual Deveopment Theory" is based on the work of fourteen theorists of various centuries, parts of the world, and disciplines. These theorists have all described a universal spiritual path toward improving the collective human experience in our current reality and uniting us all in our common search for a connection with something greater than ourselves. Dr. Johnston offers an eye-opening perspective of spirituality based on conscious choice that looks past the restrictions of organized religion; one that is highly beneficial to each of us personally and to the global world we live in. Margaret Placentra Johnston, author of Faith Beyond Belief: Stories of Good People Who Left Their Church Behind Faith Beyond Belief gives a much-needed voice to the “good” people who have left their church but whose spirituality continues to mature. Margaret uses first-person stories as well as known spiritual authorities in describing various stages of religious growth. Some of these real-life accounts are by nonbelievers; others are by those among the growing numbers of the “spiritual but not religious.” All are thoughtful people with too much integrity to live what they consider a lie. The stories of the nonbelievers-including an ex-Catholic, a former Mormon, and a clandestine Muslim apostate who left his community after the attacks of 9/11-show how complete confidence in human reason can lead away from literal religious interpretation. A practicing optometrist, she has been helping people see better in the physical world for the last thirty years. Now she writes to help people see more clearly in other ways. Captivated by the depth and beauty of the universal worldview described by various spiritual development theorists, Margaret found ten regular, real life people whose stories could show us steps on the way to that worldview. Her book, Faith Beyond Belief, is the result of that search.
